Sleep

Timestamp: Cutlet 03:51, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Type: Improvement
Scope: Survivors
Description: All buildings with beds, i.e. Hotels, Hospitals, Mansions, Towers, Churches, and Cathedrals are now able to be slept in, unless the building is ransacked (to clarify, sleep would now be a new function, rather than simply passing out after running out of AP). Sleeping takes 2 AP to use. While asleep, you have a 10% chance to regain one HP each time you regain an AP. When you are not at full AP it takes 1 AP to wake up, but you wake up automatically when on full AP. While asleep, all attacks on you have a 100% chance to hit, and wake you up automatically. Sleeping survivors are shown in the room description, like this: "[Number] survivors are sleeping fitfully in their beds [List Names]"

  1. I don't know. Doesn't seem as useful as it sounds. All some asshole has to do is walk in and AUTOMATICALLY hit all the sleepers to "wake" them up.-Pesatyel 07:07, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  2. Kill - I just tought that if a zombie has a possibility to land a sure hit, it would be an INFECTIOUS BITE, nerfing the sleep to one of those almost useless, just-for-show abilities. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 07:53, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Five changes. 1AP to sleep, 0AP to wake up, 100% chance to gain a HP, you receive no notifaction messages for activities that occur while asleep, and you recieve the same screen as an exhausted character untill you "wake up". --Gene Splicer 11:21, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Re: The trouble with that is that if you had a 100% percent chance to get an HP back, you'd just go to sleep at 0 AP, wake up at 50 AP, and you would have got 50 HP back. --Cutlet 09:28, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Re: But in the meantime you would have no idea what had been going on in the world outside. Maybe 50%? I just think 5 hours is a little long to gain 1HP --Gene Splicer 00:17, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
  4. kill needs a few changes: 1AP to go to sleep for 8 hours only with 25% chance to regain 1HP per hour, Double the chance to hit rather than make it a straight 100%, INFECTED should gain no hits but should get 25% as a chance to break infection at the end of the 8 hours, I like Gene Splicer's idea that your screen goes to exhausted, Zombies should be able to use this in graveyards! --Honestmistake 11:58, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  5. Kill - Definatly kill, this would involve to many steps and is horribly flawed, plus this has no use why not just make it so when you're logged off others that are logged on have 100% hit? After all if you want to get more HP use a FAK! --Darkvengance 07:08, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
  6. Kill - i dont like to be set on fire by PKers, while i sleep. This would be a great improvement to the game, if some changes (as suggested above) will be made. Far more chance to gain HP per AP (to balance the chance of being hit), no messages about activities, not straight 100% hit chance (perhaps double the rate, like honestmistake suggested). BUT you can't cure your infection by sleeping (i think that's too hard to believe) and Zombies cannot use it (they need flesh to live, not sleep). Please repost that, for I like the idea of giving some of the "useless" buildings a use. --PsychoLychee 01:05, 02 January 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Pointless - given the ease of finding a FAK, and the massive downside to this (100% to be hit, 3AP cost), I just don't see the point. --Funt Solo Scotland flag.JPG 09:37, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  2. Spam - Who are you supposing would use this? people in EHB non-rescourse buildings in safe suburbs who are expecting to be offline for more than one day? --AlexanderRM-- 8:32, December 22 2006 EST
    • Re: It doesn't matter how long they're offline for, they can only get an HP each time they get an AP. Also, I was expecting people who want to sleep in places other than malls to use it. If you don't have an FAK, and you don't have the AP to go find one, then this is potentially very useful. --Cutlet 09:28, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
  3. As above. And, plus, I could see Pkers using Flare Guns on Sleepers, maximizing damage and causing the most amount of harm.--ShadowScope 01:55, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Yet Another GPS Idea

Timestamp: Jon Pyre 04:30, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Type: Improvement
Scope: The GPS Unit
Description: And hopefully a good one. I know there are a lot of GPS suggestions in peer reviewed (and peer rejected) but I figure it's good to put more ideas out there and give Kevan the widest sampling of options.

Add a drop-down menu to the GPS unit allowing you to set it to any of the different colors you can shade contacts. If you're on the contact list of someone of the shaded color your coordinates will appear in a new column there. There is a range limitation to the GPS's wireless signal. It always shows their position if they're within 10 spaces. Any greater distance requires that the phone masts be powered or that new column will be blank.

This would allow people to share their current position with all their groupmates, and reduces the need to metagame where to travel next. The group leader just has to go and their allies can check where they are.

You would need a seperate GPS unit for each color of contacts you want to inform. You would be able to set GPS units back to blank if you decide you don't want to annouce your location anymore. Or you can discard the GPS unit. For an example of a GPS unit connected to a wireless phone network: http://www.boostmobile.com/boostloopt/?cid=boostloopt_bmdotcom_20061114

  • Clarification: Forgot to mention, you need to have a GPS unit on you in order to see the coordinates of other people. It doesn't matter what color (if any) that one is set to though, as long as you have one you can see coordinates.
  • Clarification: This doesn't let enemies see your position. Please re-read if you think it would because the color shading thing that prevents that is the whole point of this suggestion.

  1. Keep Useful, really just replaces metagaming, and is perfectly feasible with modern technology. --Jon Pyre 04:34, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  2. Keep, but change -In order to prevent griefing, both users would have to have each other on their contacts list (sorta like cell phones) and both users must have a GPS unit. Axe27 08:46, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Re Well, if you weren't mutual contacts the other person wouldn't get your location because you wouldn't be on their contact list. And yeah, I intended that you need to have a GPS in order to see the coordinates of other people. --Jon Pyre 08:21, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  3. keep - Useful, especially for casual allies. The Mad Axeman 11:08, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  4. Read the freakin' suggestion, Gage - Only characters in the contact colour OF YOUR CHOICE can see you. So you set it to your "Friends list" colour. Which only contains friends. You spamhappy, "Hurrr must put down suggestion because Pyre suggested it actually reading the suggestion too much effort lol I am cool and a mod lol" fucktard. --Gene Splicer 11:25, 22 December 2006 (UTC) Maybe a bit over the top, but seriously Gage, grow a clue. --Gene Splicer 11:27, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  5. Keep - So its only the colour contact of your choice who see where you are- only in a 10 square radius and if they have you as a contact and have a GPS Unit? --MarieThe Grove 12:30, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
    • - Wasn't sure about the radius thing- shouldn't it be over the whole of Malton- it is global position tracking or whatever. --MarieThe Grove 17:42, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Re The signal that tells you where you are is from a satellite. However the interconnectivity with other GPS units is achieved through a mobile system, like in the link I put above. --Jon Pyre 19:46, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  6. Keep - I think this would be okay. Can you track friends that are zombies too? (easy finding of dead group mates for revives). –Ray Vern
    • Re Hmm, I suppose so. --Jon Pyre 17:22, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  7. likie it - --Poopman9 19:15, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  8. Keep - After actually reading this thing, I find this to be the most ingenious GPS suggestion so far. A kudos to you Jon. So, would having two GPS devices allow you to choose up to 2 colors to send your location to? --Wikidead 20:53, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Re That's right, you transmit to one color per GPS. --Jon Pyre 01:20, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
  9. Keep - It's good enough --Deras 01:12, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
  10. Overwhelming Keep - Those voting kill and spam, please reread this suggestion. It allows you to choose who you are transmitting your position to, not the other way around. (It makes no difference if you know what color I have you set as, because I have to assign you to that color in my contacts list. It doesn't care what color you set me as.) As for the display, I'd like to see a display that showed a radius about the size of a suburb (maybe a little smaller. For anyone further than that, just let it tell you their suburb and/or direction. --Uncle Bill 03:59, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
  11. Keep - As long as it is clear that the person who is being found is transmitting their position at will, not be tracked by the person with the GPS... this is a slightly complex idea to explain verbally, but would work amazingly well in game. Plus, remember, it's not really biased towards survivors because it could be used to coordinate the actions of death cultists and zombie spies. Plus, it reduces the effectiveness of zergers by giving groups some of the same tools tools of always knowing where there friends are.--Nosimplehiway 20:54, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Kill - Not completely worthless, but, as Gage has already brilliantly put this, mutual contacts does not imply friendship. --Wikidead 06:33, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Re You don't display this to all your mutual contacts. Only the ones you yourself choose. Mutual contacts don't imply friendship. That's why you get to handpick which of your mutual contacts are your friends and only let them see it. --Jon Pyre 07:05, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Re: Ok, I get it. To be honest, I really didn't read your suggestion. I just looked at the title and Gage's opinion and said, "Oh... Another GPS-Contacts suggestion..." --Wikidead 20:53, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  1. Kill - needs diagrams. --Funt Solo Scotland flag.JPG 09:41, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Re How do you mean? You mean something like the necronet display? That might be hard to do considering this can show allies in distant locations.--Jon Pyre 16:10, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  2. Kill - This is definitely something that you could do with a real GPS, but I don't think it's desirable in game. Survivors can already talk in game, allowing them to transmit loads more data about their strategic position. They don't need this boost -- boxy T L PA DA 09:57, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Newspapers give Hints for Newbies

Timestamp: Reaper with no name TJ! 18:52, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Type: New newspaper articles
Scope: Newspapers
Description: Currently, newspapers have no purpose other than flavor. However, I think I've come up with a way to make them useful without changing much. Simply put, add articles that give hints for the newbies. Roleplay-wise, this can be explained as newspapers giving adivce to people during the initial outbreak or as survivors making and circulating newspapers of their own detailing ways of staying alive.

Some of the messages could go like this:

"It is advised for all survivors to stay indoors and make sure their doors are securely barricaded. However, this may require some skill in the area of construction."

"While heavy barricades may provide more protection against the zombie hordes, it also has the side-effect of preventing entry by other survivors. For this reason, it is advised that all survivors learn and master the art of Free Running."

"Setting up a portable generator makes life comfortable and searches easy. However, be warned that it can also attract unwanted attention."

"It is still not yet known if it is possible to permanently subdue the undead. Conventional methods appear to be futile, as they can recover from even the most gruesome of injuries almost instantly. It is recommended that anyone who manages to "down" a zombie immediately dump the body outside."

"There have been rumors circulating that the NecroTech company has developed a way to reverse the effects of the zombification process. However, these rumors have not yet been confirmed."

I know some of this stuff is already in the briefing, but these are only examples. I'm sure Kevan will be able to think of better ways to give the newbies advice through the newspapers.

  6. Keep - Jon Pyre makes a good point, but this is still good. Maybe one of the tips should be "Reading newspapers is a waste of time, according to a few misguided individuals." The reason for the "misguided individuals" part is because newspapers typically wouldn't try to ruin their own businesses. And, yes, AP is not a unit of time, but this is for flavor reasons. --Wikidead 20:58, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

  1. Kill Because sadly the best advice it could give is "Stop reading newspapers. You're wasting time you could spend on not dying". I think newbies should get tips, but they shouldn't need to burn up their AP to do it. --Jon Pyre 19:45, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

    • Re- If a newbie doesn't know how the game works, then they're going to waste their AP anyway wandering around and not having any clue what they are doing. At least this way they can get some useful info and can get an idea of what they're supposed to be doing. In this way, they can actually save AP. This also has the added benefit of not having to subject veteran players with new characters to paragraph upon paragraph of the same stuff (which would be the case if the same info was presented automatically to all new players). --Reaper with no name TJ! 18:41, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
  3. Kill- The only problem I see here is that all newspapers were printed *before* the infestation. How then could they contain advice on dealing with zombies when there were no zombies at time of publication? I could understand subtle clues, though ("The only page in the tattered old paper that's even remotely legible is an advertisement for a gun shop at Caiger Mall, half price on ammunition..." as a clue that guns and ammo can be found in malls, or "There's a story about how several warehouses in Malton have been used to illegally store fuel." to clue people in that fuel cans can be found in warehouses). But not direct newbie advice as described; that takes away the flavor and the logic of the game. Good suggestion though. --FlintMcD 03:21, 27 December 2006 (EST)
