NEW BOREHAMWOOD LOCATED IN ELSTREE RECRUITING!

If you are interested in joining the survivor group Poncione Court Police Station, please visit our temporary wiki page: http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Poncione_Court_Police_Station Every pro-survivor welcome! --Ragrillo 22:11, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Strategy

I have a proposal for all the survivors of Borehamwood. In order to keep the zombies from winning just like they did in Monroeville, I suggest that we form a "supra-coalition" or something of the sort. My proposal is to add every non-PKer/GK-er/Death Cultist human that one crosses paths with into a list of contacts with the same color. With this, we will know who our true allies are. Then, once one dies, humans will be able to recognize zombies and vice versa. All survivors should pledge not to attack humans if they die, and humans in return should not attack zombies that they recognize from the contact list. This way, humans actually have a shot at surviving as they are left at a huge disadvantage due to the lack of revives. This would balance the game out a bit by keeping humans on an even ground with those who actually start off as zombies. --Ragrillo 01:07, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

fuck that shit. ya dig??--xoxo 04:44, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Monroeville isn't over yet :) --Lostcauseman 13:35, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

All survivors should pledge not to attack humans if they die YES. Mention it on the radio, someone. I was going to do that, but if someone else wants to... Monroeville survivors are probably alive simply because all the zombies have stooped playing.--Rachel Akebre 07:28, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

hey will you guys stop lighting up buildings in dangerous areas they are like a magnet for zeds and the vets will start pking you if you do such stupid things in the future.--Binlaggin 21:53, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Sounds interesting, I think a large scale group coalition would be a good tactic, it would be interesting to see if it goes even further and starts some crude form of government.--Wootle 23:47, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, that would be interesting. However, large coalitions just collapse due to vested interests and arguments. They occasionally work in Malton, but it's not too common. Most groups like being sovereign. Linkthewindow  Talk  05:00, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

River

I confirm the existence of a river. Screenshot coming. --Skritz

You can pass through the firts few tiles into the river normally, but the deeper areas are impassible. --Hunter X 20:22, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Actually, you can get around the river. Its fields as far as the eye can see past it, though. Eventually you hit a black line and get the message "You have reached the impassable edge of the quarantine zone, with layers of razorwire, low fencing and concrete-slab walls blocking your way." Actually, there are farm buildings and corn fields across the river - Shaft121 20:17, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Big Brother House

I wonder if it will follow the general layout as shown here: http://www.backdrifts.co.uk/bro.JPG ? I think I'll head for the south east. Iggles 11:22, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

I think the map will be a lot smaller, since the competition is to end in one month. Maybe 3x4 or 4x4? We already know that it will be at least 3x3 (district names "<cardinaldirection> Borehamwood", but there is also Elstree, which is located southwest from Borehamwood. --Tybalt Peroni 11:45, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

I've replaced the blurb by Link The Window with some of the details we currently know. I doubt the city follows that structure. Check out the Monroeville map, it'll more likely resemble that. --xoxo 10:16, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

I have aligned South B suburb map so that location1 starts at 544-66, but I'm running out of the 10x10 grid to the south. I'll rest a bit and try to find southern border. --Tybalt Peroni 16:19, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

CCTV

Not sure if this is unique to Borehamwood, but it's the first time I've noticed them.

In an unlit side room, you can see a darkened CCTV console. inside Grinter Terrace Police Station.

Mounted on the walls of the building are several CCTV cameras. outside Bewsey Grove Police Station.

A defunct cashpoint machine has a CCTV camera mounted above it. outside Haselshaw Bank.

I guess they are most likely just for flavor purposes. - User:Whitehouse 14:29, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

There was one outside the O'lEary building as well.--RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 14:34, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
I've seen several of them as well, with CCTV consoles mostly in police stations. A wild idea is, that once they are powered, we will be able to peek inside of the Big Brother house (check wikipedia for Dead Set episodes short synopsis, in one of them a character from outside does just that. Although, this being CCTV system, it will probably only monitor few nearby cameras. --Tybalt Peroni 16:09, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
I think I found one in a street --William2 16:53, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Yup, they're out there as well. --Jen 17:58, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

A battered portable generator has been set up here. It is running, and powering a dented radio transmitter that's currently set to 27.56 MHz. In a side room, you can see the glowing screen of a CCTV console.

Button "View CCTV" produces:

The console is showing a view of Denney Lane.

Button "Switch CCTV camera":

The screen flickers, and the console shows a view of Craddy Road.

Neither Denney Lane nor Craddy Road are amongst 1-block-away streets. --~~~~ [talk] 19:49, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Jens scouting suggests 15*15 areas, with all the west being transected by a railway line. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 17:42, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
I dunno...I'd bet it's probably more like Monroeville, with all sorts of crazy boundaries. :( A nice clean 15x15 would be much easier to figure out, though, so I hope you're right.
In either case...BWHAHAHA! ANOTHER HARDCORE MAP! I think I'm going to be abandoning Malton for a while... :D --Jen 17:49, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Ruined Abbey

There's a new building type, the ruined abbey. I don't know if it's the only one, but it's located in East BHW. it's 2x2.

It's strange. I can't close its doors - there's not button for it - but I did successfully barricade it with a length of pipe.

Naming whilst mapping

By and large there will be no location pages for individual locations (that is specific named places rather than generic buildings such as "a factory") in Borehamwood yet.

If our intrepid mappers could please check their links after they update their entries, if their link is blue (i.e. live) then chances are that it's a name already used by a place in Malton. As per wiki naming conventions the link should be altered.

For example, The Shiel Building is in both Malton and West Borehamwood.

The link [[The Shiel Building]] directs a user to The Shiel Building in Malton.

The Borehamwood link should be rendered as [[The Shiel Building (Borehamwood)|The Shiel Building]] which will be a red (i.e. dead) link until the page is created, for example The Shiel Building.

In time disambiguation pages will need to be made to allow users to find the two locations from one search, and utilising these naming conventions now will allow us to find them easier to perform these tasks.

Doing this helps the newbies find where there are, especially players who have come aboard with this new promotion and may not yet be familiar with Malton.

Cross posting this to all Borehamwood suburb talk pages so that everyone sees it.

Cheers. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 11:08, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

the border between Radlett and Northwest Borehamwood might be very weird. the one thing i'm 100% sure is that when GeraldThompson walked from 524-11 to 523-12 he changed suburbs. that was from where i drew on... --~~~~ [talk] 20:39, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
ok, that is actually my mistake. fixing --~~~~ [talk] 20:42, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
There's still uncertainty in what maximium x coordinate of Elstree suburb is and where SW BHW starts. I know that 525 is Elstree and 528 - SW BHW, but 2 columns in between... --~~~~ [talk] 21:57, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
ok, less uncertainty now, in today's data there was a person moving across as x coordinate changed as predicted --~~~~ [talk] 20:16, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

river funny fact

In the southert half of the map there are spots in the middle of the river that are unreachable, there's no way to see them. Well, we can assume that it's just river, but noone would be able to check :) Maybe there's secret Kevan's hideout! --~~~~ [talk] 19:58, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Are they impassable to the living and dead? Would binoculars see these? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 20:22, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
deep river (darker) is impassable to the living and dead. For binoculars you need tall building... Well, looking from the Kemp Building [584,83] to the north-east would highlight 2 out of 8 blocks, but that's all --~~~~ [talk] 20:36, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
i reckon those 2 will have something amazingly awesome.--xoxo 00:48, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Mapping Complete

Barring the possibility of a few style errors, the Borehamwood map is now complete. There are 12 blocks which cannot be discovered, in the deep river. All other blocks have been discovered. I have put a complete map on a free web host at http://maunder.fileave.com/mmap.html (487K) -- save a copy! Thanks to everyone for their good work (especially Duke Garland). -- Maunder 05:35, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Yay :D Thank you all for your work! --Janus Abernathy 13:24, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

I'ld like to thank Lexi and Maunder for data management, and these people for valueable data contributions (alphabetically): Bigmaddrongo, Cjo9911, Co fragment, GeraldThompson, Janus Abernathy, Jen, Lexi, Mvario, Rosslessness, Pyxis, Zarneverfike, Zolt. And of course, those who anonymously used Lexi's plugin for scouting --~~~~ [talk] 14:08, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Questions

Where are people finding syringes to revive with? And why can't my zombie Rage when he's on the same square as a survivor (and no, I don't already have Lurching Gait). Any response would be appreciated. The Fossa 04:46, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

i'm pretty sure there is no syringes ala Monroeville, no idea, rage should work. For me there was a button there that you clicked and miraculously you had gait.--xoxo 05:25, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
THERE ARE NO SYRINGES! If you didn't read in the borehamwood description, it is perma-zed if you are killed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ragrillo (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.

Suburb Danger map

Is the suburb danger map at the bottom of the page being updated? It's different to the danger levels in the individual suburb pages. --Wootle 19:45, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Probably a coding glitch. Ill have a look. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 20:03, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Sorted. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 20:08, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I think the map should be changed completely to red.--Gregmayo 05:03, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Mobile Phone Masts and Billboards

Both are pretty much useless now, as most of the map is ruined / zombie infested; however, the location of these (if they exist in Borehamwood,) is pretty much the only info not yet included in the suburb wiki pages. I've currently got a couple zeds combing Southeast BHW, but its a time-consuming process. So, if you see any, maybe take an iwit, or just update the relevant suburb page. --Zarneverfike 04:19, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Since it is unlikely the Borehamwood quarrantine would be lifted...

...and while there are still ~1000 moving bodies about, what are players' opinions about bringing in "permenant death" via Headshot?
A significant majority of the population, survivor and zombie alike, have advanced skills. There are plenty of ruins and darkened alleyways to hide. It could be fair game for either side.
I ask because I'm curious to what people's reactions about an "end game" scenario for a city that is still sort of active. Bystander 16:55, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

As a standing survivor in Borehamwood, I'm for adding permadeath with headshot. I think it would re-balance the game, by giving survivors the edge. Don't think it'll ever happen though. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere Kevan saying permadeath headshot wouldn't be coming back to Monroeville, so I doubt it would be added to Borehamwood. --Zarneverfike 09:54, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
It's an interesting concept. Because Headshot involves contact with zombies, which means zombie metagaming swings hundreds of other zombies in your direction. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 09:58, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
True, but with the map as it is now, its pretty much a game of hide and seek. Even if you had a bounty on you for being a zombie hunter, its still sort of random whether your found by zeds or not (unless you allow yourself to be scent trailed.) I guess what I'm saying is if it were implemented, I wouldn't worry about using it. --Zarneverfike 10:25, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

I think permanent zed death via headshot would be good, you would have to find a better way of telling the players about this thou. Guessing most would agree to it. --Athur birling 23:45, 28 April 2009 (BST)

Suburb Danger Map

Since the whole map is pretty much universally Ghost Town / very dangerous and will likely stay that way, are there any objections to either removing the Danger Map, or to moving off the main page. Since the zeds are in control with most of the city in ruins, it doesn't really provide useful (or up to date) info for either side. So, yeah... any objections to getting rid of it? --Zarneverfike 10:25, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Move it to its own page, make a note of where that page is and record the fact that the zombies have ruined pretty much everything. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 11:21, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
Really? i'm in an area with lots of repaired buildings --~~~~ [talk] 15:28, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Point me in that direction, all I can find are inactive zombies (kill them for XP denial) and one unlucky player who I promptly munched. Informant 03:09, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, survivors read these pages as well, so by the time you see it and get there, any smart humans would have fled the area. --Zarneverfike 06:20, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Borehamwood Dimensions

I've been looking at the Monroeville and Borehamwood maps, and noticed that nobody mentioned the dimensions of Borehamwood. It seemed incredibly huge to me, and I was wondering if anyone knows how large the city is? I know Malton is 100x100, and Monroeville is 98x98, so what is Borehamwood?

Apologies if it's already been mentioned and I simply overlooked it; it's 12:14am, and I've got a migraine. --Fujiko Mine 05:13, 30 March 2009 (BST)
