Talk:The Great Suburb Group Massacre/2011
GSGM2011
- moved from the 2010 talkpage
It. Is. TIME!--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 20:30, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- Right. Stop. Do it properly. We need a brand new template, to differentiate it from other years, It's also probably a good idea to look at the larger groups again. Asking them If they're truly active where they say they are. Lucky the DEM didn't reply last time. Heh. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 20:56, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- I couldn't be bothered to do it properly, and I knew if I posted here, somebody else would.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 21:03, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- List of groups is smaller this year so we can do it more in-depth than before. Instead of one reply covering all of the group's listed suburbs, ask them where they're actually active. Yeah it's still a trust system but it's bound to be better than not doing it. 21:25, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- So something along the lines of: "Hello, this is an annual check of the suburb group listings? What suburbs is GROUPNAME currently active in?" and if there's no reply, remove them from everywhere two weeks later.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 21:27, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- Bingo. 21:28, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- The ones where we are listed at. Best answer. --Thadeous Oakley Talk 21:32, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Group Active? Request.
In order to maintain the wiki as an up to date source of information groups are occasionally removed from the Suburb pages when they are no longer active. What suburb is this group active in? If so simply confirm here by writing something below. If not it will be removed from all suburb pages in 14 days. |
Something like that?--TCAPD(╯°□°)╯ ┻━┻ 21:31, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'd think that and maybe a hand written line underneath, because a lot of people won't read the template and will just assume it's the old one.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 21:32, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- To make it specific, like Mis suggests, do something like this "Please list the suburb(s) you are active in" so you get a list. As for attention grabbing, bold the important part. --Thadeous Oakley Talk 21:59, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- Perfect. 22:01, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- Just write the text in those blinking rainbow letters, that gets my attention everytime. --ScouterTX 22:13, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'd like to add to using a bigger lettertype. Why is it so small, it's like the details of an American mortgage loan contract.--Thadeous Oakley Talk 22:14, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Group Active? Request.
In order to maintain the wiki as an up to date source of information, groups are occasionally removed from the Suburb pages which they are no longer active in. We would like to know in what suburbs this group is currently active.
Please list the suburb(s) you are currently active in. |

- Dun. If someone wants a go at it, then do so, I'm off to bed. --Thadeous Oakley Talk 22:47, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
This whole conversation should be taking place at the 2011 talk page. Also, as Ross said. We need new templates, both for the suburb talk pages and the group talk pages, as well as the request for a list of suburb names. Most of that's being handled already, so that's good. We probably also need to post in the news sections of the actual suburb pages when we start the GSGM, that way more people are aware of it, since previously not enough people checked the suburb talk pages. —Aichon— 22:54, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

We always used to link the header on group's talk pages back to this page, so they could see what we were on about. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 23:07, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Logistics, logistics, logistics
Before everyone goes jumping in, let's make sure it gets done right this time by handling all of the issues that need figuring out in advance. So, quickly, here are some concerns I have:
- Having both the GSM2010suburb and GSM2011suburb template on the suburb talk pages will break some pages (probably quite a few, in fact, since just the GSM2010suburb by itself broke a page or two last year). The template is simply too big, and having it included multiple times on the same page was not something I planned for when I made it, so either we need to remove last year's template, or else we need to rework/remove the use of the template this year. Personally, I'm in favor of just removing the old one entirely and slapping a new one on the pages.
- I think I can clean up the code for GSM2011suburb some more so that you don't have to fill in signatures as many times. Let me take a look at that before we get going, but don't wait for me if I drag my heels.
- What's the procedure for coordinating groups that are listed in multiple suburbs? For instance, if I'm in charge of suburb A, Yonn has B, and Misanthropy has C, and a group that used to be listed in all three now says they are only in A and C, do I mark them as confirmed for A, Mis does the same for C, and Yonn marks them as removed from B? Or is there something more to it than that?
- What day does it start on? We don't want people jumping the gun.
- How do we deal with groups that do not provide a list of suburbs they are in, but do respond as if it were the same as previous years?
Most of these should be quick and easy to figure out, but I just wanted to make sure they weren't glossed over and that we hadn't missed anything with them, so having some more eyes looking at them should help us find any trouble areas in advance. —Aichon— 00:31, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- 1 - Archive.
- 2 - Work your magic!
- 3 - That's exactly what I figured happened.
- 4 - Seems to have already started (or else three or four of us have already jumped the gun)
- 5 - Remove them from all suburbs, as they were specifically asked to provide a list. No compromise. 00:35, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- Archiving works, can't work magic since people started and it'd be awkward now, sounds good, you all suck for jumping the gun just like last year, and I'd like some other consideration on the matter since we're breaking them in and don't want too many complaints. Maybe a reminder if they do it wrong? —Aichon— 00:53, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'll go back and archive for the burbs I've done. And to be honest, if we're just going to make things even easier for people who refuse to read, there's little point actually adding this new clause. Take note and respond properly or face the trivial consequences of not reading a notice. 00:57, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- Archived my suburb talks so far. And as Mis, I'd be in favour of complete removal in case of no suburb-listing. Re-adding is trivially easy, and if it happens, abandoned burbs will be spared, cutting down on clutter. If they don't re-add themselves, it also means less clutter, and also that the group likely doesn't watch the wiki. In either case, the clean-up has achieved something. Else, we get another year of DEM and Undeadites in every damn suburb -_- -- Spiderzed▋ 01:13, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- Going back to #3, what if a group lists a suburb that they haven't previously listed themselves in? So, to go with my previous example, they say that they are active in A, C, and D, but they were not previously listed in D, so the person assigned to D would not check their page. —Aichon— 19:14, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- Let them add themselves if they feel that they are active there, with possibly (and optionally!) leaving a note about the gap if the massacrer feels like it. We are here to clean house and keep the suburb listings from going to shit, not to do the work for groups that are so sloppy on wiki maintenance that they miss out on an opportunity for free advertisement. -- Spiderzed▋ 19:32, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- Original #3: If they haven't given a list of suburbs within 14 days, remove them from all. If they respond with no list within a day, ask again, until the original 14 days are gone, I say.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 19:45, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- What about the Malton Rangers? They've stated on their talk page that they are essentially active in every suburb. How have mobile groups been handled in the past?--GANG Giles Sednik CAPD 20:00, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- They really need to pick the suburbs they are most / actually active in, or be listed nowhere. If they are listed in every suburb, you might as well add in FU, MOB, RRF, MOTA, UD, and basically every horde/horde with a mobile subgroup into every suburb listing, which kinda makes this somewhat pointless.-MHSstaff 20:09, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- I posted on their talk page and let them know we really needed a list from them. Also, I notice that some of you are saying that any reply is enough in your comments (Giles, Vapor, others?). Didn't we agree that that's not the case? —Aichon— 20:43, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- They do need to list suburbs, but the phrasing (of Vapor's at least, I'll assume Giles' is similar) seems to imply that that's necessary anyway. We'll see how people respond.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 22:58, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Suburbs without listed groups
Have that case right now in Greentown: There isn't a single group listed. Should I still put an empty {{GSM2011suburb}} on its talk page, or should I better let the burb be? -- Spiderzed▋ 22:50, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- Put on an empty template and mark the cleared section, just for posterity.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 22:56, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Groups adding thelmselves during the massace
Another stupid question from me, this time looking at Lockettside Defense Corps adding itself to the Lockettside roster. My guts reaction would be to plainly ignore them, as they are clearly active right now and will respond with a chance of 97%. -- Spiderzed▋ 13:13, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, just ignore them. We had the same thing happen with a few groups last time too, and, as you said, they're active, so there's no point in removing or confirming them. —Aichon— 15:49, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Adding groups to suburb pages
I have a group who's list includes suburbs where they are not currently listed in the suburb group roster. Should I add them to these suburbs, or let them to it themselves if they choose too? --Thadeous Oakley Talk 14:28, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- I think we should just let them do it themselves. We're only cleaning, after all. We're not adding. If they say they're active in a suburb where they're not listed, they should definitely add themselves. But that's just my two cents on this issue. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 14:39, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- Same happened to me. When I confirmed, I just left a note stating that no action was being taken on suburbs they aren't already listed in. ~ 14:47, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, figured that much. It kinda goes against the idea of cleaning, which is what were doing after all. Okay thanks! --Thadeous Oakley Talk 15:29, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Already cleaning?
Understood "Date due" is the final day to submit an answer, not as day of checking. Not that it will make a difference in most cases (if a group doesn't bother to answer within 13 days, the 14th isn't going to raise the chances substantially). But still. -- Spiderzed▋ 18:33, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- I was thinking about that too. I don't know...Maybe we should wait for Yon to explain why he marked some groups as inactive already. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 18:39, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
Just One Suburb Left...
This is a memo reminding the first person who reads this in two days to check Modzer0 so we can keep or remove it from Lerwill Heights. Two days. That is all. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 03:42, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Dudes, seriously...
Erm, why don't you guys check or post on our forums to see if we're active?
We use the wiki for networking and recruitment essentialy to leave a finger print, but cannot continually check, and edit the wiki to satisfy your bureaucracy.
WTF?

- It's not our job to check your forum. If you want to benefit from the wiki, then follow the rules. If you don't, we're under no obligation to do everything for you. If you don't check back then it's simply your own fault if you miss something. If you want to continue enjoying a free service given to you on a plate, jump through one tiny hoop each year, or stop moaning. 01:36, 11 June 2011 (BST)
- yeeeeeesh! you wiki modes and your sensible attitudes and reasonable logic. In all seriousness though, is there at least a way I can set it up to get emailed when my group page is modified? That way all parties envolved can be satisfied. oh, and by bureaucracy I mean an entity completely of itself and seperate from the whole of all wiki mods in general... I know you're just dudes like me. but beware like frankenstien said "IT'S ALIVE!!!" now look at what you made me done, I'm rambling. with no intent to troll or flame anybody, for serious guys! for realsies! - Preferences > User profile > E-mail me when a page on my watchlist is changed. You'll want to make sure your watchlist isn't full of busy pages, though. You could set up a secondary account which exists only to watch the pages you want emails about, just remember to link your email address to it (you can hide it from other users, though, if you want). That way you'll get the emails for those pages while still being able to watch pages with your 'real' account freely. 02:22, 14 June 2011 (BST)
