How depressing it is to see the archives clumped together more and more until there's three years in a single archive. {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/a}} 01:20, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
:I know, right? Seems faintly ridiculous to be acknowledging that something with “dead” in the name is dying, but here we are… {{User:Revenant/Sig}} {{Goonsig|Revenant}} 07:57, 21 April 2018 (UTC)

Come on. You know you miss it. {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 05:11, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, wasn't aware of BP completely supplanting RE for active crats. That this isn't explicitely stated on A/BP and A/RE, and that Ross had voluntary RE last time didn't help much either. --'''<span style="font-family:monospace; background-color:#222222">[[User:Spiderzed|<span style="color:Lime"> Spiderzed</span>]][[User talk:Spiderzed|<span style="color:Lime">█ </span>]]</span>''' 14:21, 2 May 2011 (BST)

:Nah, it wasn't your fault, I tried convincing da crew into changing it back but I failed and then that happened :( -- {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig4}} 14:31, 2 May 2011 (BST)
::I've switched the template again to hopefully clear the confusion since both your way and my old way can be sources of ambiguity. Also, Ross' RE should never have happened since he's exempt from them and we have no basis for taking action based on it (Do we demote him if he fails, and if so, how far do we demote him? Do we extend his term as 'crat if he succeeds? Do we bump back his eval date, which he's exempt from anyway, by another 8 months if he succeeds? Do we do nothing at all?). And perhaps adding a "Please note that Bureaucrats are exempt from the reevaluation process" to the A/RE intro template would be a good idea? I'd do it, but it's protected, and I'm too lazy to ask on A/P. {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 19:52, 2 May 2011 (BST)
:::With Ross, he was essentially demoted from crat at the time of the election, so if his evaluation failed, he would have been removed as a candidate. But, it was completely voluntary, and he wasn't going to fail, anyway.--[[User:Yonnua Koponen|<span style="color: DarkOrange">Yonnua Koponen</span>]]<sup>[[User_talk:Yonnua Koponen| <span style="color:Gold">T</span>]][[DvB| <span style="color: Goldenrod">G</span>]]</sup><sup><span class="stealthexternallink">[http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=840689 <span style="color: DarkGoldenrod"> P</span>] </span></sup> [[User:Yonnua Koponen/Sandbox|<span style="color: Red">^</span>]][[Discosaurs|<span style="color: Red">^</span>]][[{{TALKPAGENAME}}#Donkey|<span style="color: Red">^</span>]] 20:36, 2 May 2011 (BST)
:::It's not exemption, promotion to crat is a confidence vote and thus a show of faith from the community. It ''is'' a re-evaluation. So assuming he's not had some shennanigannery about jumping elections/demoted 'crats he should always have a current eval time. Then again, the 12 months thing needs to be changed to a 8 months really, simple fix for this problem  as the implications of that were overlooked when the re-evaluation policy was under voting. The intent and expectation was that a crat was always having their seat voted on ''before'' their re-evaluation would otherwise trigger. --<small>[[User:Karek#K|Karek]]<font face="Monotype Corsiva">[[User:Karek/ProjDev#Buildings_Update_Danger_Maps|maps 2.0?!]]</font></small> 13:37, 3 May 2011 (BST)

:::::{{cquote||3. If, for any reason, an individual Bureaucrat position hasn't faced an election after 12 months, then an election is called after that period.|[[A/BP]]}}
:::::If I remember correctly that was made policy after boxy went over a year without a vote due to Darth and Vista both demoting themselves or some such. --<small>[[User:Karek#K|Karek]]<font face="Monotype Corsiva">[[User:Karek/ProjDev#Buildings_Update_Danger_Maps|maps 2.0?!]]</font></small> 13:48, 3 May 2011 (BST)
::::::I'm pretty sure that it has always been in place. That was just the first (only?) time it has been triggered <small>-- [[User:Boxy|boxy]] 02:16, 4 May 2011 (BST)</small>
::::It actually ''is'' an exemption, since the policy explicitly says, "Current bureaucrats are exempt from this review process due to their own review process." So, they do have their own review process, but the policy repeats a few times that they are not subject to the policy while they are 'crats. I do agree about the 8 month thing though. {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 01:54, 4 May 2011 (BST)
:::::Semantics, the point is it fulfills the purpose re-evaluation does. Re-evaluation is inherently included in the vote.--<small>[[User:Karek#K|Karek]]<font face="Monotype Corsiva">[[User:Karek/ProjDev#Buildings_Update_Danger_Maps|maps 2.0?!]]</font></small> 02:44, 4 May 2011 (BST)
::::::Sure, but if you always display the next eval time, as you suggest, that means that you don't display the date that their seat is next up for election, which is far more useful information, given that it is something that ''will'' occur, as opposed to the eval, which merely ''may'' occur, depending on circumstances. Even with a switch to 8 months, it'd still only possibly occur. {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 02:50, 4 May 2011 (BST)

Good Morning,
:We had a solid majority of 5 Misconduct votes (which with Axe's connections woes and some ops generally avoiding opinion pages should constitute for a solid majority), and we had Ross agreeing to the decision, so there wasn't really a point in further discussion. I had cycled it to have a permanent link to set up the A/VD record before that drops accidentally under the carpet. --'''<span style="font-family:monospace; background-color:#222222">[[User:Spiderzed|<span style="color:Lime"> Spiderzed</span>]][[User talk:Spiderzed|<span style="color:Lime">█ </span>]]</span>''' 23:50, 3 May 2011 (BST)

I'm sure the usual problem makers will try to tie me to their enemy, but the fact is I was just trying to keep things as accurate as possible. Time for some people to grow up and learn this is not their game, nor their site, and we're all just guests of the creator.

Even if I had actually been the one to make the edit in question, A/V policy is to contact the user and try to work it out with them <b>before</b> aggressively filing a report to get them punished, to promote good faith and newbie-friendliness in the community. I note that my talk page is still nonexistent. If you had left me a message instead of rushing to A/V, perhaps we could have worked out some of the smaller details like "I have never edited the page you accused me of vandalizing." --[[User:Envious|Ɛňvϊoцᵴ]] ([[User talk:Envious|talk]]) 16:21, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

:thankx -- {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig4}} 08:51, 5 May 2011 (BST)
:Not that I'm aware of. It's on Kevan, so our lack of discussion here on the wiki is not really surprising. Frankly, given that he cut off payments from UK customers to comply with updated business regulations a few years back, I was half expecting that the wiki and game might suddenly shut down so that he wouldn't have to worry about any potential GDPR compliance issues, but that hasn't happened (yet). {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 17:06, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
:No. I'm not really the person to discuss the GDPR thing. I honestly don't really know much about it at all, so if anyone else wants to chime in with thoughts, please do. {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/a}} 03:47, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

== Archive of your suggestion ==

Hey, I've no idea what the process is for giving bot status but I was wondering if I could get the 'bot' flag put on [[User:Thegeneralbot]], which is an account I plan to use for some of my semi-automated batch edits so that I don't clog up recent changes by making 10 edits per minute.--{{User:The General/sig}} 09:55, 5 May 2011 (BST)
I was going to back it up for you, then noticed you already did. The idea is not bad, too bad kevan has not decided to do this.  He seems to be active still on his main site. --{{User:Gardenator/sig}} 06:06, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
:I don't think we've needed an official process for this yet. Just don't break anything, and make a shutoff switch, I guess? Probably worth doing a trial run or two to iron out the bugs, too.<br/> I may well be needing to do this myself soon. {{User:Revenant/Sig}} 11:53, 5 May 2011 (BST)
:Thanks, I figured Kevan would never ever see it, but it’s fun to suggest things and I enjoy keeping them archived somewhere to remember them. {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/a}} 12:37, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
::Currently all edits are manually reviewed, so I shouldn't break anything. I've built a [[Template:Emergency-bot-shutoff|shutoff button]] which allows you to quickly block the bot if it starts playing up. I'm working on some fully-automated bots which will include a shutoff switch for normal users.--{{User:The General/sig}} 13:26, 5 May 2011 (BST)

:Dunno what you mean unless you are implying I must have been sucking up to become an op, in which case I guess you'd be 50% right, though I was very keen on helping people out then (didn't take long for that enthusiasm to die hey). Or maybe you meant I WN'd an old user? I didn't realise he was an old user at the time because of the history purge and I couldn't view deleted pages then. Dunno what you're meaning here. ::I just meant that it was an old user. If you were a sysop you'd have been able to see the log at the time, all of the ones I posted on Misanthropy's page where he was a sysop. :I'm interested to hear what you think- I saw those and interpreted it as the same user coming back under a new account (perhaps they forgot their old password) and just reclaiming their old projects, which isn't uncommon. {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/tcs}} 22:53, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
::Particularly because all they've done on that group page is do a couple of small spelling fixes, etc. {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/tcs}} 22:54, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
:::Ok, and that is fine reasoning; however, Pyropardus blanked user Pardus's page and erased quite a bit of data off of two other pages.  Now compare that to user Igotmadenoughtomakeanewaccount, who was warned for making edits to user Shaqfu's page.  There was some back and forth so it was apparent that Shaqfu didn't want the edit to his page.  The edits were the addition of two templates, one of which called user A Helpful Little Gnome a "five alarm fuckwit".  That appeared to draw user A Helpful Little Gnome into creating a V/B case against user Igotmadenoughtomakeanewaccount.

I think you did the right thing. {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/tcs}} 16:37, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
::::::Yeah, I was wary for that above reason, plus I think pardus was one of the free speech for all people we were arguing with on discord.  I wanted to make the issue known before when I first noticed it, but I wanted to wait to see of there were anymore edits.  It did get some humorous stuff going when bob and pyropadus started edit warring.  --{{User:Gardenator/sig}} 16:53, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

::To be absolutely fair and honest DDR I actually ask sysops to move my own discussions off the page after they happen, as was the case with spiderzed's case in april, as was the case with every such instance where it wasn't simple additional information regarding a ruling and even in some cases where it is. The main A/VB page should be clear and consice with immediately case relevant information ''only'', with as few rulings as are reasonable(this habit of five or six sysops ruling on uncontested cases is bad). If ever I'm being inconsistent in defense of my posts on A/VB being moved by all means here's the rope to string me up with. --<small>[[User:Karek#K|Karek]]<font face="Monotype Corsiva">[[User:Karek/ProjDev#Buildings_Update_Danger_Maps|maps 2.0?!]]</font></small> 02:45, 23 May 2011 (BST)
:::Not your posts. Others. Say, why are you kicking a stink over that small thing that IMO is totally relevant when Rev's been projectile shitting all over cases below in the exact same page? Is responding to my ruling with something how about I smell (I think thats what it was) relevant? 8 goons attacking every case with stupid for a month and a half? Again, I'm indifferent either way, they can both stay or they can go, but we should at least try and be consistent. -- {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig4}} 03:40, 23 May 2011 (BST)
It's possibly worth pointing out that we will now be archiving the talk page alongside the main [[A/VB]] page, so moved discussion will still be in a relevant and easily accessible location.<br/> (FWIW, I try not to move my own responses – I'd prefer to trust an uninvolved third party's judgment as to relevance).<br/> {{User:Revenant/Sig}} 00:43, 23 May 2011 (BST)

::::Not to flog a dead horse but Karek's side is the one with the least potential for abuse. If an edit stands for a significant period without contention, and is then changed at the start of an edit war, it's safer to revert to the edit that was there at the time the mess began, not the one that the mess changed it to - otherwise anyone could change an established edit anywhere on the wiki, bog the place down with A/VB or A/A cases, and keep their new edit during this time as you would have set precedent for treating the standing edit as the contentious one. == Edit Summary ==
I appreciate your help, DDR.  Since you are knowledgeable about signatures, perhaps you could point me to a link that shows/explains how to take a descriptive two-line string of code that delineates a signature ("font-family", etc.) and turns it into the compact form such as your <nowiki>[[User:DDR|DDR]]</nowiki>. I want to be able to turn the strings of descriptors in mine to the compact version of [[Catherine Cushing|Lizzie Donner]].  I made up a signature for each alt and put them on the bottom of my homepage, User: Catherine Cushing. I feel like the code isn't written up properly somehow. Maybe that's because I don't understand any of it (just filched it from other peoples' pages.)

Because the stuff in the () apparently disappeared. I was more referring to the fact that I had just been reading the Cyberbob A/PD where he argues about the A/VB boxes and wasn't particularly talking about that discussion other then mentioning that the context of the vote shows the majority opinion to be keep but only if it's kept temporarily while we transition it out. It wasn't a personal shot, if it were I would have said as much on the page itself or here. --<small>[[User:Karek#K|Karek]]<font face="Monotype Corsiva">[[User:Karek/ProjDev#Buildings_Update_Danger_Maps|maps 2.0?!]]</font></small> 09:30, 9 June 2011 (BST)
Since I wrote that I did find a place that I think explains how to make a nice signature properly. It is: https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_intro.asp
:Oh okay, sorry about mine then. -- {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig4}} 09:31, 9 June 2011 (BST)

My abstain isn't an absent-minded against suggestion, I'm actually for you being a sysop but fully think that whatever is said is pointless, given that there is no chance you will not be reopped. {{User:Ashley Valentine/sig}} 12:06, 24 June 2011 (BST)
:Hey Catherine. Thanks for the well wishes for London. I'm excited to see it.
:That's fair enough, thanks for clarifying that, I thought it was more or less an against, not that I really would have had issue with it or you otherwise of course. -- {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig4}} 12:20, 24 June 2011 (BST)
:So I think there are two solutions to your questions. Please correct me if you have more questions or if I didn't quite understand your queries (it's been a while since I've really troubleshot signatures).
::Neeerh, more a point against the wiki than a point against the individual; you've done nothing to make me think of you any less, and only things to make me think you're a worth while sysop. Mind you, I wouldn't get amazingly ahead of yourself, it is all subject to change, of course :P {{User:Ashley Valentine/sig}} 12:29, 24 June 2011 (BST)
:The first answer to your question is possibly best answered [[Help:Signatures#Customized_Signatures|here]], with some examples of signature styles etc. that will still help you out with coding and what codes might make your signatures look like what.
:::Thats cool. And don't worry, I definitely won't :) -- {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig4}} 14:10, 24 June 2011 (BST)
:As for your second question, I have a complex signature that appears in code just as '''<nowiki>{{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5}}</nowiki>'''when I type my <nowiki>"~~~~"</nowiki>. The way you do that is to go to preferences (top right of this whole page) and go to signature and you add '''<nowiki>{{SUBST:Nosubst|User:YOUR SIG HERE}}</nowiki>.''' So for example, mine says right now, ''' <nowiki>{{SUBST:Nosubst|User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5}}</nowiki>'''. You are able to go to the real page of [[User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5]] and see the code for yourself, but thanks to this nifty trick, all that code doesn't end up on a page every time I type the signature, the wiki just uses that code as a template.
:'''I find your lack of faith… ''disturbing.''''' {{User:Revenant/Sig}} 11:33, 27 June 2011 (BST)
:Does that help you at all? {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5}} 09:44, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

== cause that what we call them round here! ==
::That is extremely helpful and very kind of you, DDR, thank you.  (I didn't realize until just now that the signatures I composed have no date and time stamping function included. Ugh.) --[[User:Catherine Cushing|Catherine Cushing]] ([[User talk:Catherine Cushing|talk]]) 10:38, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
:::You can manually add the timestamp! Just type in <nowiki>~~~~~</nowiki> after you put in the template to show the sig you want. Also, if you create a separate page for each signature (just like DDR has) then those pages can be used as the template coding then adding in the five tildes afterwards. You might want to ask Bob what he does, as he switches between signatures depending on what he is doing on the wiki. He has his main one, but then for danger status updates, he often uses his Danger Updater signature. So he might be able to give you another point of view on how to do things with your alt's signatures :) {{User:Stelar/sig}} 11:16, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
::::For my side signatures, I have a subpage for them (just like a regular signature), e.g. at [[User:Bob Moncrief/DUSig]]. Then, I type ''<nowiki>{{User:Bob Moncrief/DUSig}} ~~~~~</nowiki>'', which transcludes the side signature and then adds just the timestamp (with five tildes, as opposed to four tildes, which would also include my regular signature). {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 11:58, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
:::::Thanks all for pitching in to answer that third query that I skimmed past... Basically as Bob and Stelar have said above in regards to getting your 'alternate' signatures to appear as though you are speaking as one of your alts. (Might as well do one for this here message, by manually typing an old sig and then adding the 5 tildes.) {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig2}} 04:10, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Re: nation library edit:

Good Morning, Thank you for the information and understanding. It's been years since I used this site. I have made the accurate correction this time. Nation is up. Looking at it right now. Also, the Danger Report notification at the top of the edit box does specify it is to be NPOV, I was trying to help that person, but went about it wrong. I will do better. I'm sure the usual problem makers will try to tie me to their enemy, but the fact is I was just trying to keep things as accurate as possible. Time for some people to grow up and learn this is not their game, nor their site, and we're all just guests of the creator. Take care. How can I be a sockpuppet if Im a real person, and don't like a hand up my butt?

Dont be made just because Im making more sense than you. Next time just follow my lead and we can all get there together correctly and accurately!

A/V report

Even if I had actually been the one to make the edit in question, A/V policy is to contact the user and try to work it out with them before aggressively filing a report to get them punished, to promote good faith and newbie-friendliness in the community. I note that my talk page is still nonexistent. If you had left me a message instead of rushing to A/V, perhaps we could have worked out some of the smaller details like "I have never edited the page you accused me of vandalizing." --Ɛňvϊoцᵴ (talk) 16:21, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

I had a brain fart making a report about the wrong account, apologies there. I copied the most recent A/VB report over while on the run and somehow didn't remember to change it to the actual accused. A ZOMBIE ANT 22:03, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

gdpr

was there any discussion about it on the wiki ? --hagnat 14:45, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Not that I'm aware of. Aichon 17:06, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
No. I'm not really the person to discuss the GDPR thing. I honestly don't really know much about it at all, so if anyone else wants to chime in with thoughts, please do. A ZOMBIE ANT 03:47, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

I'm interested to hear what you think- I saw those and interpreted it as the same user coming back under a new account (perhaps they forgot their old password) and just reclaiming their old projects, which isn't uncommon. THE CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER 22:53, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
Particularly because all they've done on that group page is do a couple of small spelling fixes, etc. THE CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER 22:54, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
Ok, and that is fine reasoning; however, Pyropardus blanked user Pardus's page and erased quite a bit of data off of two other pages.
What I really don't like is the precedent this could set. Does this mean that anyone can make a new account like say user NewMartyBanks, and then proceed to edit user MartyBanks profile and erase large portions of the group he is associated with?--Emot-siren.gif LABIA on the INTERNET Emot-siren.gif Dunell Hills Corpseman The Malton Globetrotters#24 - You rated this wiki '1'! Sure. THE CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER 05:52, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
So just to put my 2c in now the case is done is I'm pleased you bought the case forward because it can be better to be safe than sorry, and I'm cool with that, although I consider the precedent you seem wary of to simply be "assuming good faith", which is the vibe I got from the whole situation (luckily I was right, though I could have easily been wrong and looked like a tit). Nothing wrong with escalating an issue because no one else has brought anything up because of assumptions. I think you did the right thing. THE CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER 16:37, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, I was wary for that above reason, plus I think pardus was one of the free speech for all people we were arguing with on discord. I wanted to make the issue known before when I first noticed it, but I wanted to wait to see of there were anymore edits. It did get some humorous stuff going when bob and pyropadus started edit warring. --Emot-siren.gif LABIA on the INTERNET Emot-siren.gif Dunell Hills Corpseman The Malton Globetrotters#24 - You rated this wiki '1'! Signature and template questions

I appreciate your help, DDR. Since you are knowledgeable about signatures, perhaps you could point me to a link that shows/explains how to take a descriptive two-line string of code that delineates a signature ("font-family", etc.) and turns it into the compact form such as your [[User:DDR|DDR]]. I want to be able to turn the strings of descriptors in mine to the compact version of Lizzie Donner. I made up a signature for each alt and put them on the bottom of my homepage, User: Catherine Cushing. I feel like the code isn't written up properly somehow. Maybe that's because I don't understand any of it (just filched it from other peoples' pages.)

Since I wrote that I did find a place that I think explains how to make a nice signature properly. It is: https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_intro.asp

Have some fun in London. I haven't been there in 18 months (I'm in Oregon, above the Pacific in the USA.) It was August and the weather in Whitby was perfection. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Catherine Cushing (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.I forgot; sorry.Catherine Cushing (talk)But the signature I tried to write doesn't have the time and date in it!!!--Catherine Cushing (talk) 10:38, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Hey Catherine. Thanks for the well wishes for London. I'm excited to see it.
So I think there are two solutions to your questions. Please correct me if you have more questions or if I didn't quite understand your queries (it's been a while since I've really troubleshot signatures).
The first answer to your question is possibly best answered here, with some examples of signature styles etc. that will still help you out with coding and what codes might make your signatures look like what.
As for your second question, I have a complex signature that appears in code just as {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5}}when I type my "~~~~". The way you do that is to go to preferences (top right of this whole page) and go to signature and you add {{SUBST:Nosubst|User:YOUR SIG HERE}}. So for example, mine says right now, {{SUBST:Nosubst|User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5}}. You are able to go to the real page of User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5 and see the code for yourself, but thanks to this nifty trick, all that code doesn't end up on a page every time I type the signature, the wiki just uses that code as a template.
Does that help you at all? DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION 09:44, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
That is extremely helpful and very kind of you, DDR, thank you. (I didn't realize until just now that the signatures I composed have no date and time stamping function included. Ugh.) --Catherine Cushing (talk) 10:38, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
You can manually add the timestamp! Just type in ~~~~~ after you put in the template to show the sig you want. So he might be able to give you another point of view on how to do things with your alt's signatures :) stelar Talk|MCM|EBD|Scourge 11:16, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
For my side signatures, I have a subpage for them (just like a regular signature), e.g. at User:Bob Moncrief/DUSig. Then, I type {{User:Bob Moncrief/DUSig}} ~~~~~, which transcludes the side signature and then adds just the timestamp (with five tildes, as opposed to four tildes, which would also include my regular signature). Bob Moncrief EBDW! 11:58, 12 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks all for pitching in to answer that third query that I skimmed past... Basically as Bob and Stelar have said above in regards to getting your 'alternate' signatures to appear as though you are speaking as one of your alts. (Might as well do one for this here message, by manually typing an old sig and then adding the 5 tildes.) -- DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION -- 04:10, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
This is fantastically generous of you all, and I actually understand it!!! (I believe it has also illuminated the idea of posting a template one has made on a file page, so that it actually works out in the UD Wiki world.) I can't tell you how incredibly grateful I am for your help. P.S. I wasn't sure I was allowed to insert a live link for something outside the UD Wiki, so I put spaces into the address for that w3 school tutorial thingee I found.
