Suggestion description
No doubt players of Urban Dead have recommended UD to other people. How about a reward system as a token of appreciation?
When a new character is created a player has the opportunity to enter the ID number of a 'friend' who recommended UD to them:
- For each friend recommended the player gains +5XP up to a maximum of 100XP,
- Both players will be added to each others contact lists,
- When a player joins the 'friend' receives the message "You heard rumors that xxxx has been sighted in the city" x minutes ago...
Notes:
- If players added to a contact list goes over the allotted amount they will not be able to add more until enough have been deleted as per normal.
In order to reduce zerg abuse and referral spamming the XP limit is set at a maximum of 100XP. I am aware that most referral systems get spammed all over the net, however these systems often have a 'no-limits' bonus or x amount per day that carries over. By limiting the maximum gain to a low amount it acts as a minor reward system to people who invite other players but does not allow them to gain a major advantage over other players by abusing/spamming the system. By adding players to each others contact lists it allows friends to get in contact and recognize each other much sooner without the need to meta-game, another benefit of this system is zerg/spammers will end up with their contact list full of players they have no interaction with.

- Change - Shartak uses a somewhat similar system of referrals, but in this case it gives gold (30 I think) and XP. Of course, there is no gold here and the XP in Shartak needed to level increases by 25 each time, it might not be so viable here. I'm not entirely sure how Simon handles the reports, probably manually (maybe not viable here, given the numbers) and it's defined as each regular player referred, so this would help out with the spamming or zerging abuse. A different reward maybe, or done a bit like Shartak would be better. -- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 20:11, 30 March 2009 (BST)

- Kill - Open to abuse. If this were to be implemented, there would have to be some sort of system like "you only get the 5 xp once the character you referred reaches, say, level 5 in order to prevent abuse. Plus, there's lots of better ways to gain XP. This seems a bit unecessary. --ScaredPlayer 02:03, 31 March 2009 (BST)
- Kill - Unless you could propose an actual and effective way to verify these referrals as valid, and consider that this is multi-continental. --Luke Leimer 04:09, 31 March 2009 (BST)
- Kill - ...and then UD is simply a more complex version of any of the applications on Facebook/MySpace that makes all your friends hate you. No. --Maverick Talk - OBR 404 08:50, 31 March 2009 (BST)
- Kill - As Paddy and Iscariot however I fail to see how it could be called spam, additionally most casual players ideas get shot down as being overpowered, thereby forcing people to metagame. Rogueboy 15:04, 31 March 2009 (BST)
- Kill - Can be abused badly by zergers. --ZsL 19:17, 31 March 2009 (BST)
- Kill/Change - Again, I think the only way to possibly make this work is to limit the number of "credited" referrals per month, rather than set a 100 XP cap. If you can only earn XP credit for 3 referrals a month, you could even offer a 10 or 15 XP reward: if it took someone 3 months to exploit a level from this, it wouldn't be abused, or if it was, no one would care, because it would be the world's most inefficient way to zerg a level. ~ extropymine Talk | NW | 4Corners 21:02, 31 March 2009 (BST)
- Kill - This essentially becomes useless if someone already has a bank of unneeded XP. It's also open to abuse, if you want to invite friends, tell them about it yourself and let them help you in-game. Acoustic Pie 15:57, 1 April 2009 (BST)
