20080717 Flak Jacket Piss About Version 274.6

Cheese 16:25, 17 July 2008 (BST)

Suggestion type
Equip Method Change

Suggestion scope
Flak Jackets

Suggestion description
Back when Kevan first implemented the clothing system he mentioned the following: Flak jackets still work as before, and will be folded into the new system later. Since it's been over a year since then, I'm going to make my suggestion on how that could be accomplished.

  • The Idea
    • This suggestion aims to add flak jackets into the clothing system. Simple as that.
  • The Mechanics
    • This will not change the way in which Flak Jackets are currently found. In other words, this won't make it easier to find them. When a Flak Jacket is found, it will be added to your equipment as usual. However to equip it, you go into the settings and can equip it to any of the upper body slots: Shirt, Coat or Jacket. As current, this will not stack and you will be unable to equip more than one flak jacket. You can change the slot or unequip it at any time, but more than one is a no no. You can also pick a colour of Flak Jacket. Why? If you think about, or course there will be more than one colour for any body armour ---> Camouflage.
    • When you wear a flak jacket, it will appear in your profile along with the rest of your clothes (hence the colours). Perfect for those Military types that want to complete their outfit and for those that want to take fashion to a whole new level (again, colours so it can all match).
  • Some other stuff
    • Before the zombies become upset about me forcing them to get a revive just to equip a flak jacket and then die again, just hang on a second. I haven't forgotten you. If this suggestion is implemented (similar to brushing the dust off for a newbie zombie), a zombie carrying a flak jacket can equip it in their settings screen, free of charge.

  • An afterthought
    • This isn't part of the suggestion but I thought I'd stick it in just for informational purposes. I was thinking that with this, the way flak jackets could be found and damaged would make perfect sense. You could walk into a PD or Armoury and just equip it straight from the settings screen. As you died more and more, the jacket would get damaged (similar to the way clothing is currently) and eventually you'd be informed that it offered no further protection. Then it would just be a slight detour to pick up a new one. However, I thought that this would be a huge zombie nerf and decided against it. Much fairer that way.

Keep Votes

  1. Author Keep - Mine. :) -- Cheese 16:26, 17 July 2008 (BST)
  2. Keep - since the flak jak decay bit remained an afterthought, which is its proper place. Kind of how you don't want after-dinner mints for a main course. --Sir Bob Fortune RR 20:13, 17 July 2008 (BST)
  3. Keep - Makes sense, I guess. I kind of like the way it works now ('cuz I'm a lazy S.O.B.), but like it or not, this makes more sense. --JaredSPA 20:24, 17 July 2008 (BST)
  4. Keep - ARGGGGGGGGGGGGG! I really want to vote kill on this suggestion, but it actually has merit. It's pro-trenchie, but that's not enough to make me hate it. Oh, and if you would have suggested "The Afterthought", this vote would be an auto-spam.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  20:27, 17 July 2008 (BST)
  5. Keep - Makes sense. --Pgunn 20:42, 17 July 2008 (BST)
  6. Keep - Even though some of my characters wouldn't wear it because it would ruin their outfit. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 23:11, 17 July 2008 (BST)
  7. Keep - If Kevan's eventually gonna include flak jackets into the clothing system this is a fine way for it to get done. And yes, all "degrading flak jackets in the name of realism" suggestions should be auto-spam, at least until Malton begins to realistically run out of ammo.--Jiangyingzi 02:09, 18 July 2008 (BST)
  8. Change it to undergarment slot or something, and then you might have something.. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 04:03, 18 July 2008 (BST)
  9. Keep - Good, however I do suggest the breaking-up flak jacket... Logic should come over the fear of 'zombie nerfing'. DanceDanceRevolution 09:39, 18 July 2008 (BST)
  10. Keep - I like it.--Jamie Cantwel3 TalkAll glory to the Hypnotoad! 09:44, 19 July 2008 (BST)
  11. weak keep - Not really a zombie nerf, unless we have people who are scanning already, or their wacking at you. also, it'd be neat if they had like the blood-stained and stuff, as long as that didn't actually change things. I'd love for my zombie to have wearing a beaten up urban camoflage colored bloody flak jacket, as long as you could choose not to display it, for those in need of their zombie anonimity, as I'm sure flak jackets can be kept under clothing. Padfu-Zomfu 21:38, 19 July 2008 (BST)
  12. Keep - I am tired of wearing a clear plastic raincoat. And this is awesome for pk'ers. But as long as your afterthought remains an afterthought, I am Keeping this. --Vandurn 00:19, 20 July 2008 (BST)
  13. Keep - coz it should be obvious upon looking at someone that they're wearing a flak jacket.--xoxo 07:39, 20 July 2008 (BST)
  14. Keep - I congratulate you on actually making an intelligent suggestion. I like the idea, and while the afterthought is quite controversial, This is a good idea. It'd be cool if you could choose to wear it under or over your clothes, but I'll vote for this.-- Techercizer (Food) (TSoE) 20:24, 21 July 2008 (BST)
  15. Keep - Oooh! Pretty colours! - Zig13 - 30/07/2008 at 08:24(BST)
  16. Keep - as per above. gabdewulf 14:38, 31 July 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Even if we assume that your Afterthought is not part of your suggestion at all, the fact remains that by zombies having the flak jacket display in their profile, you alert enemy harmans that the zombie is in fact protected. Doing so can allow a harman to go and "skip" that zombie, instead attacking weaker targets who are not wearing a Flak Jacket.
While allowing for such tactical knowledge may in fact be useful, I am not so certain that zombies would prefer this sort of buff. Also, since you are wearing a flak jacket, a person wouldn't be able to wear anything else in that slot, meaning for a more homogeneous playerbase, all looking alike. Therefore, the best thing to do is have wearing flak jackets be optional, that you do not have to wear a Flak Jacket in order to get the benefits of it.--ShadowScope'the true enemy' 20:30, 17 July 2008 (BST)
The only way that a survivor could acquire that knowledge is by DNA scanning every zombie they meet. I don't see many people wanting to do that in an active siege. And anyway, you can find out if a zombie has a Flak Jacket just by shooting them. If some gets absorbed then they're suited up. -- Cheese 20:49, 17 July 2008 (BST)
  2. Change - Personally, as someone with a more eccentric fashion sense, I don't like losing the slot. If I'm wearing something over my flak jacket (I tend to think bulletproof vest here), I want that to be seen, not the jacket. I'd rather have it be a cosmetic suggestion, rather than a functional one, if that makes sense. --Queen Mum 21:25, 17 July 2008 (BST)
  3. Kill - I like my clothes slot. And I don't like everyone else looking the same as I am. Besides, if you think of flak jackets as any sort of body armor (say, kevlar), then you can consider that it was worn instead on the inside and therefore not seen on the outside, just like how it works now. --Aeon17x 00:17, 18 July 2008 (BST)
  4. Kill - I don't want to give up a clothes slot for protection. --William Told 19:42 17 July 2008 (GMT-5)
  5. Kill/Change - Do not force me to give up a clothing slot for a Flak Jacket. Instead, just add it to the description automatically. No need to equip it, none of this complicated beeswax. --WanYao 09:59, 18 July 2008 (BST)
  6. ^ I agree with WanYao. I like the idea of flak jackets appearing in descriptions but if you had to use up a clothing slot for it then half the survivors in the game would look the same in that slot. Clothing allows customization, I don't want to see everyone wearing a flak jacket. Just adding "...with a flak jacket beneath it" after the torso item would work. --Jon Pyre 16:33, 18 July 2008 (BST)
  7. Kill - as above. I dont want to give up a clothing slot for it. I like being a barechested kilt wearing lunatic in my description. --The Grimch U! E! 10:15, 19 July 2008 (BST)
  8. Killish - I don't want to lose the clothing spot as well. Because even if the flak jacket fits like clothing, its much heavier then a coat, so i really think that as far as logic or realism or whatever you want to call it, it makes since to keep it in the inventory, where it effects the weight being carried. and again, i don't want to loose the open slot for clothing. However, on the other hand, if another dedicated flak jacket slot was added, where it isn't there if you don't have a jacket, but an extra drop menu appears to select it when you do have one.... i might be more persuaded then. Tylerisfat 06:53, 20 July 2008 (BST)
  9. Kill/Change - Not a bad idea, but it give too much information to PKer. Second, Flak Jacket could be hidden on some clothes and this system cannot simulate it. If flak jacket could be hidden by specific clothes, I would change my vote. -- Bug MacLock 09:48, 20 July 2008 (BST)
  10. kill All this does is take away one clothing space and let PKers choose their targets more effectively. Sanpedro 05:32, 21 July 2008 (BST)
  11. Killz0rz As much as I'd like ofr PKers to be able to choose their targets more effectively, this suggestion is utterly useless and would waste Kevan's time even considering it. --Ishmael Davenwood 01:00, 25 July 2008 (BST)
  12. Kill - no one needs to kow you are wearing a flack jacket. plus... who cares? -- Jack S13 T! PC 18:54, 25 July 2008 (BST)
  13. Kill - as SanPedro --Jasonjason 18:55, 26 July 2008 (BST)
  14. kill I don't wear flaks. I just hold them. I don't want it to say I'm wearing it. --Nny The Person 19:06, 27 July 2008 (BST)
  15. Kill.. Sorry man, but this is just a little bit complicated. Its easier the way it is now - found a jacket and wear it automatically. Don't fix what isn't broken. --Piskus99 11:08, 28 July 2008 (BST)
  16. Kill Agree with the user above me, it's a Pkers dream and it's too complicated. Linkthewindow 10:32, 30 July 2008 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Because it's either a dupe of already suggested or Kevan's knows how he wants to do it but hasn't seen fit. Either way he's thought of it and suggesting it is just a waste of time, especially when all that suggestion consists of is customization options you want.--Karekmaps?! 11:17, 18 July 2008 (BST)
  2. Spam - Pointless. --Papa Moloch 21:19, 18 July 2008 (BST)
  3. Spam - Either a dupe or a game-breaker, this would be a PKer's dream, and suggestions must not boost PKers, even though this would otherwise be harmless.--Kolechovski 23:01, 20 July 2008 (BST)
Follow-up --Piskus99 07:46, 28 July 2008 (BST) "this would be a PKer's dream, and suggestions must not boost PKers,". I suggested the pepper spray and it prevents PKers from using it on other survivors, All votes are "spam" theyre saying "PKing is a style" . I hate PKing, really pisses you off.. Non-author reply struck. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 11:07, 30 July 2008 (BST)
