20090406 Limited Give

Kamikazie-Bunny 19:18, 6 April 2009 (BST)

Suggestion type
Survivor Trading

Suggestion scope
Survivors

Suggestion description
'Give' allows players to give items to another survivor.

It consists of a box similar to the attack box and consists of a 'Give' button, drop down list of survivors and a drop down list of items. The cost to give an item is 1AP.

When a survivor is given an item they receive the message "Player X gave you an item."

In order to prevent zerg abuse the give item function is limited:

  • Survivors are only capable of giving Infinite-use items excluding pistols and shotguns!
  • The only consumable items available to give are:
  • Beer
  • Wine
  • Books (inc. poetry)

These items are available to give primarily for role-play purposes.

If a player attempts to give an item to someone who is over 100% Enc. they receive the message "Player X is carrying too much already."

This allows for survivors to give items to fellow survivors but helps to reduce zerg abuse as they cannot be used as "search farms" effectively. Should 'Jerk Loaders' appear it should be noted that although the JL spends AP to give someone an item it does not cost AP to Drop an item.

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Join my group and get a free axe and flak jacket! I think not. Also, I don't want to hear "yo anybody got a baseball bat LOL GIMME GIMME" 800 times a day. Limiting it to beer and wine might be cool, but only if there's a box I can check to indicate I don't want to receive gifts. --Paddy DignamIS DEAD 23:07, 6 April 2009 (BST)
    • Although it may be an inconvenience for you if someone asks for your help or offers you something for your help, this would actually help encourage survivors to use team work without meta-gaming by forming groups in game (mostly low level newbie players who join a group for the equipment and work with them to gain experience). --Kamikazie-Bunny 01:02, 7 April 2009 (BST)
  2. Kill - Needs a box you can check to refuse "gifts" first. --Private Mark 00:05, 7 April 2009 (BST)
  3. Change - Restrict it to booze only. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:08, 7 April 2009 (BST)
Books would be ok too. Pretty ineffective for leveling, considering the other, much better options. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:21, 7 April 2009 (BST)
  4. Change - Remove the infinite use items and you've got a reasonable suggestion here. -- Cheese 00:16, 7 April 2009 (BST)
  5. Change - Restrict it only to only beer and wine. Nothing, absolutely NOTHING useful. I don't want survivors passing gennys, fuel cans, flak jackets, FAKs, binoculars, spraycans or any kind of weapon. The only reason I'd even consider this is because I know you chatty survivors want to be able to give each other beers in clubs so badly, so why not just restrict it to that? As a zombie, I WANT you spending AP to find things you want.--Necrofeelinya 01:14, 7 April 2009 (BST)
  6. Kill - Cut it down to the books and booze. --ZsL 07:22, 9 April 2009 (BST)
  7. kill - As so many others I think this would be good if restricted to booze (and perhaps crap like candy/easter eggs!) --Honestmistake 14:16, 9 April 2009 (BST)
Kill/Change - I'd only vote for any sort of "Trading" ability if resources were finite, that is; there were only SO many Shotguns, etc in Malton and they had to be passed around or taken from other players once the various buildings ran out of them.--Zombie Lord 11:13, 21 April 2009 (BST)Vote added after time -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Zerging consequences not adequately addressed from Talk: Suggestions. Books can be used to level, flak jackets can be farmed by a Scout alt to provide protection from Zerg Hunters and not to mention axes and knives are viable weapons and infinite use items. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 22:59, 6 April 2009 (BST)
Books are ineffective for levelling (10AP per day avg for scientists), quite a bit less effective than encouraged techniques such as FAKPunching, and if some zerg has 10Axes,Knives&Jackets what are they going do? Give them to someone who hasn't got what is a near-standard piece of equipment, saving what, about 75AP in their entire history of playing... I did respond in discussion but you never replied, I'll be happy to continue this there if you like. --Kamikazie-Bunny 00:41, 7 April 2009 (BST)
Books are inefficient you say? My research begs to differ. For someone who knows the game and is up to something else, books are a fine source of XP. The nature of the game is the inherent risk of gaining resources for survivors, especially newbies. If a newbie survivor could sit in a VSB non-TRP building and have his equipment brought to him, how unfair is that on the feral zombie newbie who relies on people like him getting trapped outside as a source of much needed experience after being headshot each day? -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 01:30, 7 April 2009 (BST)
  • I don't see any evidence of research on that page just a note that you gained 314XP in 731Days, ferals relying on attacking stranded newbies is a problem with the game mechanics, not this suggestion. Please can we continue this in discussion. --Kamikazie-Bunny 02:57, 7 April 2009 (BST)

  3. Spam -- As above. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 01:43, 7 April 2009 (BST)
  4. Spam - Giving or trading items that serve more than an RP use (i.e. newspapers, beer, wine, etc.) is only asking for zerg abuse. --Maverick Talk - OBR Praise Knowledge! 404 06:41, 9 April 2009 (BST)
  5. Spam - No giving, no need, not even booze -- boxy talkteh rulz 02:31 10 April 2009 (BST)
