20070704 Barricade Alerts

'arm. 06:07, 4 July 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Innate Ability

Suggestion scope
Zombies or Survivors inside a building, barricades

Suggestion description
A recent change meant that both survivors and zombies who are inside a building can notice when the barricades are changed from None:Loosely (and reverse). I think it should be increased so that inhabitants also notice when barricades are changed from VS+2:Heavily (and reverse).

When barricades are changed between VS+2:Heavily, an alert like the current one is posted. If the player who changed the barricades was inside, then a link is provided to their profile. Eg.

"CadeGriefer05 added to the barricades, removing access from the street. (2 hours and 23 minutes ago)"
"NewbieHelper removed some of the barricades, allowing access from the street. (1 hours and 59 minutes ago)"

If the player who lowers the barricades is outside when they do so, then an alert is posted to anyone inside that buildings, but no link supplied. Eg.

"The barricades were damaged by someone/something outside. Access directly from the street is now possible. (2 hours and 57 minutes ago)"

---

This seems like a sensible amendment to the current way barricades are noticed. Zombie anonymity is not put under threat by this suggestion. Now that noticing barricades has been acknowledged and added to the game, it makes sense for a survivor to notice more than just loosely:nothing. Currently, it's possible for the barricades to be reduced from EHB all the way down to loosely, even by another survivor in the building with you and you will only notice the zombie who removes the very last piece. Basically, this will give help to survivors to identify zombie spies who might be lowering the barricades, other barricade griefers (intentional or not), and how often the barricades may have decreased and increased over the past period - possibly indicating an increase or decrease in zombie activity.

Anyway, there is the suggestion. Does the community think it should be in the game or not?

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - I am all in favour of this, providing of course it does not involve hard work ;)--MK 23:18, 8 July 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - I hate this in its entirety, but it makes sense.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 06:15, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  3. Keep - Yes. Oh god, yes. This makes sense.--Seventythree 07:44, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep - I like it --Duke GarlandTLCD SSZ 08:04, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep - makes sense, helps keep track of who is doing the work/destroying the work/messing with your cade policy. For those who might not care then perhaps it could be made ignorable but I think the vast majority of players (tho not apparently wiki users?) would like this. --Honestmistake 10:08, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  6. Keep - Most definitely. --Midianian 10:23, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  7. Keep - I like it. - BzAli 14:19, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  8. Keep - Nerf Death Culting! Nerf it! Nerf it! --Magentaine 16:23, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  9. Keep - Nice suggestion, it might help prevent the rampant overcading of newbie havens. It'll will make Death Culting harder but that's too easy anyway.--Nuabreed 17:18, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  10. Keep -- I think I'd notice when someone fooled around with something my life depended on. --Firemanrik 18:32, 4 July 2007 (BST)Vote changed to Spam. --Firemanrik 19:24, 4 July 2007 (BST) With great humility, I again vote in favor of this suggestion. --Firemanrik 17:27, 6 July 2007 (BST)
  11. Keep - It's not nerfing Death Culting... and I like to know who's doing what with my precious shell of non-zombieness. Vault 19:14, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  12. Keep - Sounds good --Ju Ju Master 19:54, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  13. Keep - I see no problem with barricading conflicts (below: boxy) a simple sorry and a crowbar should fix it. Death culting is still possible (VS+2 hospitals and down). Removing from EHB to just before VS+2 is still quite deadly, as a single zombie can tear down the 'cades completely and start groaning + biting. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 20:06, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  14. Keep - I love this Idea and never understood why it wasn't here originally It makes barricading and hunting BKers easier--Matterfoot 21:35, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  15. Keep - Looks like a good balance. --Coco1993 23:54, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  16. Keep -Because a couple people in the spam section were morons!--AlexanderRM 00:05, 5 July 2007 (BST)
  17. Keep - Finally, yes, this makes sense. It doesn't threaten zombies, but it does allow you to have the same sense that a Turnip would in the same situation. Only a blind man wouldn't notice someone stripping away a significant portion of the barricades. Nalikill 15:59, 5 July 2007 (BST)
  18. Keep - Many would say that death cultists are nerfers. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 01:18, 6 July 2007 (BST)
  19. Keep -This is needed. I use the same logic a Nalikill.--User:Eika Forge 08:52, 5 July 2007 (PST)
  20. KEEP This seems normal to let others know if they can enter or exit from a building.--RayHanley 10:00, 8 July 2007 (BST)
  21. Keep - Seems smarter than the Loose to None thing. --Heavy DDR 05:02, 15 July 2007 (BST)
  22. Keep - Makes managing points for newbies that much easier Sanpedro 05:12, 17 July 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Don't nerf mah Death Culting! --User:Axe27/Sig 06:34, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - It's very easy to accidentally over barricade an entry point if two people are barricading at once... then you get put on some trenchies kill list. No thanks -- boxy T Nuts2U DA 09:12, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill - You don;t like high barricades take it up with the barricades, not the barricader.--karek 09:25, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - as boxy.-- Vista  +1  10:40, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill - Boxy summed it up. --The Hierophant 14:30, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - What Boxy said.--Nikitis 14:35, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - As boxy. Dont nerf out death culting! --Wooty 18:15, 4 July 2007 (BST)
  8. Kill - No way. Barricades are already too damned good, screwing with ways for them to be turned against their biggest fans is BS. What next, an offline automatic barricade monitor/repair skill, with a child skill to give a 75% chance of not costing an AP to rebuild a cade level with the built-in bot? --Mold 04:54, 5 July 2007 (BST)
  9. Kill - As boxy. --Ryiis 18:08, 6 July 2007 (BST)
  10. Kill - It's a good idea, but overcading by accident is very easy. Yes, what if someone doesn't know that the cades are at VSB+2 and not VSB+1 and accidently over barricade it.--Leon Vulcan 01:50, 7 July 2007 (BST)
  11. Above and up. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 22:59, 8 July 2007 (BST)
  12. Kill - As above--DonTickles 18:21, 9 July 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

Spam -- This suggestion would be nerfed by this one which looks like it's going to carry (14/7/3). --Firemanrik 19:24, 4 July 2007 (BST) Kicked open a beehive there, didn't I? --Firemanrik 17:27, 6 July 2007 (BST)

  1. Well, yeah, it nerfs Barricade Greifers, and I do like Barricade Greifers. But it really does nerf suriviors. Not only will we get BK Lists (bah! do we really need more lists?)...but VSB or below are easy to smash. If a building is at VSB or below, zombies can easily destroy it. EHB protection is the only way, and by encouraging people to stay at VSB...well, you just basically turn the newbie safehaven to be the new recruiting grounds for the RRF. NO.--ShadowScope 05:44, 10 July 2007 (BST)
Can you point out why this encourages the barricading of only up to VS+2? I honestly don't see it. 'arm. 01:37, 11 July 2007 (BST)
