20090825 Critical Miss

Johnny Yossarian 01:54, 25 August 2009 (BST)

Suggestion type
balance change

Suggestion scope
Humans without HtH Combat

Suggestion description
At the moment, survivors outnumber zombies by a pretty big margin, and only heavy planning and organization can overcome even a few inexperienced survivors with fire axes. To balance this, my suggestion is to add a factor of uncertainty to attacking with melee weapons (or fists)- a 3 percent chance to critically miss and damage yourself in the process.

One must assume that, in combat, novices will try moves they think will work, things they've seen out of action movies, generally stupid stuff: Only after the proper training will they be able to hit properly, and more importantly, not injure themselves. Until you take Hand to Hand Combat, there is a three percent chance that you will miss and injure yourself 1-3 damage (chosen by a random roll). This could (admittedly slightly) limit human character zerging and help the zombies a little bit.

As for Axe Proficiency: I think that knowing how to use an axe =/= knowing how to kill with an axe. My solution is to keep the accuracy, add the crit. miss chance, and be done with it.

Flavor text: Swinging your weapon a bit too hard, you miss and throw out your shoulder for x damage.

You miss, in the process your arm bends akwardly for x damage.

etc.

Note: I'm not too sure about the percentages; if its too high, or too small, just tell me. Thanks.

  3. Keep - The % should be lower, but I can live with it. User:Armpit_Odor/sig 21:42, 27 August 2009 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - While I appreciate the sentiment, making early game harder for either side probably isn't the way to do it. We should focus on zombie buffs, rather than survivor nerfs. Besides, 3% is still a very high chance, seeing that you don't only swing once and leave it be. And especially if you can't hit due to low accuracy, you'll swing even more, meaning the chance to hurt yourself increases exponentially. RinKou 02:49, 25 August 2009 (BST)
  2. Kill - Needless self-injury. Survivor success rates are already tinkered with to try and keep balance, or something. --Bob Boberton TF / DW Littlemudkipsig.gif 03:52, 25 August 2009 (BST)
  3. Kill/neutral I'm not big on the idea, but it sounds intresting... needs soem work though... try DS. --Gat 04:19, 25 August 2009 (BST)
  4. You doomed yourself with your "note". If YOUR not sure about the percentages, why should we, as the voters, be? You can still pull this before any spam votes show up and take it to Discussion.--Pesatyel 04:25, 25 August 2009 (BST)

  8. Kill - The idea did have some merit, but the others have made some good points. Nemesis645 21:33, 25 August 2009 (BST)
  9. Kill Last time I checked, survivors hadn't won a single fight against zombies; all this suggestion does is hurt newbies for no reason, and it didn't even have the chance to be put to sleep quietly in Developing Suggestions. 10. Kill or Change Look, I like the base idea that survivors can really screw up when hauling an axe around, but 3% is way WAY to high. You can hurt yourself by missing your mark or being careless/tired (I have a scar to prove it) but you aren't going to take 2 or 3 damage from throwing a shoulder, it hurts but it's not bad 1 damage for stuff like that. Please for the love of kevan take this to Developing suggestions, it has potential, just not where it is now. -Devorac 08:06, 26 August 2009 (BST)

  15. Kill Not necessary and would be more of an annoyance to survivors rather than a boost to zambahz, contrary to what the suggestion implies. --Papa Johnny 18:16, 28 August 2009 (BST)

  17. Kill - Well, if survivors have the ability to miss shooting a stationary sleeping zombie at close range (when the hit percentage should be full in such circumstances) I don't see how a trainee fireman swings his axe, manages to get a couple of direct hits on a zombie in a week, then suddenly dislocates a shoulder. --~Dr Frank (t) (DF) [P] (Sb) 13:14, 3 September 2009 (BST)
  18. Kill - This only nerfs new players - not your average survivor who has at least one combat skill. Plus this can hardly apply to all melee weapons - Zig13 - 4/09/2009 at 10:33(BST)
  19. Kill - How come most suggestions are trenchie-oriented. Last time I fired a gun was 2008 and can't remember the last time this year I used my axe on a zombie. Getting a hit bonus to kill zombies outdoors uselessly makes no sense and helps nobody. --YoEleven 00:40, 5 September 2009 (BST)
  20. Kill - Swinging your weapon a bit too hard, you miss and throw out your shoulder for 3 damage. You die. Yeah, I'm not buying it. - Foxtrot 13:36, 5 September 2009 (BST)

  2. Spam - I fail to see how throwing out your back when trying to swing a fireaxe at a zombie is `fun´.--Degree7 05:34, 28 August 2009 (BST)
