20070911 Directional Antenna

Jay Barco 16:19, 11 September 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
New Item

Suggestion scope
Survivors with Radio Operation

Suggestion description
Directional antennas would be new items to be found in mall tech stores. Surivors with this item can, with some effort, track down the source of frequent radio transmissions.

Used in a similar way to binoculars, a survivor with Radio Operation can point the antenna in a compass direction from a tall building. If a transmission comes in on one of thier radios from that direction, it is flagged as such.

The primary goal is give survivors a chance to stop propoganda, misinformation or spam coming in on thier assigned frequencies. But it will take co-ordination and communication to succesfully triangulate a signal.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Most excellent! --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 17:22, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - I love it --Staszyk 17:50, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  3. keep - I am assuming it A. has the same range as a radio and B. gives the direction as the nearest of the 8 main compass points? If thats the case then remove and revise too make it clear. That said it would be pretty useless and I am sure virtually no-one would use it! --Honestmistake 19:00, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep/Change More detail!!! --Secruss 02:18, 12 September 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Incomplete but shows promise You haven't exactly gone into a whole lot of detail. I like the basic idea, but unfortunately this is all that is. Please either move this to Talk:Suggestions or remove it from voting and revise it to include some figures and mechnics. Feel free to message me for help.--Seventythree 17:30, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Incomplete --~~~~ [Talk] 18:24, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  3. Revise - I wouldn't like to vote on this beacuse I think it can be better. Revise as the voting ends, and you'l get my vote--  Savant  Chit-Chat  18:52, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  4. Change - Could be good, but needs work. --The Hierophant 18:57, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  5. Revise - Incomplete in it's current state. See Seventythree's vote on where to go to get some help fleshing out the details -Ryiis 19:10, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  6. Needs more details - Great idea, but needs some details sorted out. As I understand it right now, the suggestion is thus: 1) Person goes on tall building with this item and a radio. 2) Person turns on antenna and points it, say, north. 3) If radio transmission comes from the north on the frequency that the player's radio is tuned to, they are told that the transmission came from the north. Again, great idea. It lets people finally retaliate against radio spam. Unfortunately, you fail to specify what falls within the directions. For example, does a transmission from 5 blocks north and 1 block east count as "north"? Are there any power requirements for this thing (it would seem to me like an antenna would need a powered building to work)? Fix these little issues and you'll get a keep from me. --Reaper with no name TJ! 20:01, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - La la la, no.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 20:26, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  8. Above. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 21:47, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  9. Revise Fix it up, and we'll run it by Kevan...but this is rather incomplete.--Wooty 02:19, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  10. Kill - There could be something here.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 02:22, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  11. Kill - nice idea, but you'd better try again. INSERT COIN. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 02:28, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  12. As other said, not enough details. Also, might this not promote PKing?--Pesatyel 02:43, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  13. Change. I'd be more comfortable with something that just showed distance.--Father Thompson 03:33, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  14. Kill - Encouraging survivors to hurt themselves is a bad thing.--Karekmaps?! 05:55, 12 September 2007 (BST)
  15. Change/More detail - I actually kinda like this idea... But it needs a lot of work and should be withdrawn and taken the Suggestions - Talk page. For one thing, it should work just like flares and feeding groans, that is it adds a message to a radio signal: "Source of signal 2 south, 6 east." That's all it'll do. But specifics of the item hmnnn... An attachment to a regular radio? A new kind of radio? Maybe even needs to be attached to a regular transmitter, so it's not portable? And why do I need to be on a tall building? All these questions... Oh... and it's not going to nerf propaganda like all the nay-sayers maintain. Propagandists will have to be mobile, just like PKers. Broadcasting propaganda from within enemy territory becomes RISKY -- as it should be. And odds are one isn't going to log on the second someone broadcasts and be able to find them right away, not if they're smart. However, it will cause the creation of new trenchcoat mafia groups: a laughable but not exactly funny clique of Radio Bounty Hunters going around PKing people for Crimes Against The Airwaves... Not an attractive concept... --WanYao 09:31, 12 September 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - As Seventythree. It's a good idea, but not complete or detailed enough. An incomplete suggestion is inherently unvotable, making it Spam. --Steakfish 17:55, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Spam - a vital part of many groups' gameplay is propaganda and (mis)information. Don't nerf this. If you want to, you can always choose to ignore radio messages. -- Pavluk A! 18:37, 11 September 2007 (BST)
non-author Re on talk page --Ryiis 19:18, 11 September 2007 (BST)
  3. Spam - Holy crappy suggestions, Batman! --Sonny Corleone RRF DORIS CRF pr0n 02:27, 12 September 2007 (BST)
