  1. Kill by the author! --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 19:52, 23 June 2008 (BST)
    Huh...I forgot to mention search percentages...Ah well...Just toss that in as a side note. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 20:00, 23 June 2008 (BST)
  2. Megakill as Axe hack. Seriously though, it doesnt hurt anyone... --Nitro378 T JNL 19:55, 23 June 2008 (BST)
Actually, Karek has a point. Maybe you should change it to the first time you are in a building that can be dark? --Nitro378 T JNL 20:26, 23 June 2008 (BST)
    I estimate a 50/50 chance that a new character will start in either a powered building or a non-powered building. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 00:19, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  3. Mega-something... keep - Helpful Newbie goodness --Tselita 20:02, 23 June 2008 (BST)
That 'first time in a dark building' thing is probably a good idea, actually. Sort of like the first time you die and become a zombie (or put it both in the beginning and in the first time you're in a dark building) --Tselita 03:00, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  4. Keep, helps newbies. - User:Whitehouse 20:09, 23 June 2008 (BST)
  5. Keep - Damn, I read this as "Newbie Lips on Tight", and was expecting a suggestion preventing characters < level 5 from speaking. --Sir Bob Fortune RR 20:15, 23 June 2008 (BST)
  6. Keep --Secruss|Yak|Brahnz!|CGR|PKA|800px-Flag of the United States.svg.png|EMLN|Templates|RRF|RFTM|Crap|WHOZ|Evil3.gif|MU|GN|C2008|Chippy.gif|21:29, 23 June 2008 (BST)
  7. Keep - Help da newbies. --Pvt human 23:18, 23 June 2008 (BST)
  8. Keep - as not-Karek--CorndogheroT-S-Z 00:44, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  9. Keep - can't hurt.--Jamie Cantwel3 TalkAll glory to the Hypnotoad! 03:43, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  10. Keep - Some people will use any pretext to Kill vote. --BoboTalkClown 22:33, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  11. Keep/Change-As Karek, but I would like to see this go into effect, but only as a situational thing, cuz copying RuneScape's tutorial(read:n00b) island is lame.--NoFunAtAll 23:56, 26 June 2008 (BST)
  12. keep/change - as karek, although i doubt i would read it if i just started playing. --Scotw 19:00, 30 June 2008 (BST)
  13. Keep - Why not? Many will wonder about the lighting anyhow, so might as well answer it from the start.--Kolechovski 19:43, 3 July 2008 (BST)
  14. Keep - Harmless, and may be helpful. --  13:27, 7 July 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Change - At what point did common sense not dictate that this be done the first time they are in a darkened building instead of spamming them when they join with potentially useless information? Even something like this, especially something like this, would have benefited from Talk:Suggestions.--Karekmaps?! 20:20, 23 June 2008 (BST)
You don't like me, and I don't like you. We should all know that by now...But getting back on track...If spamming them when they begin is the case, then why don't we just remove all the tips and let the newbies not know what to do, get killed, and wind up never trying UD again? We would lose more new players than gain. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 00:14, 24 June 2008 (BST)
My vote boils down to, very simply, this; Give them information when they can use the information instead of playing Welcome Newbie with the game and telling them a bunch of crap they will likely ignore or not understand the moment they join because they will ignore it and when they might actually need to know it they'll be shit out of luck. You proposed method actually doesn't help anyone.--Karekmaps?! 12:54, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  2. Change - As Karek. Otherwise, yes. -Ocular Druuuuu 20:36, 23 June 2008 (BST)
  3. Kill/change - As Karek. If this tip was given before the initial login as suggested, it could be confusing as a level 1 character (other than a scout) will not have many opportunities to enter darkened buildings. --Explodey 20:40, 23 June 2008 (BST)
There are plenty of non-powered buildings which are marked as entry points. And high level characters do go through a lot to keep them an entry point. At least the newbie caring ones... --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 00:14, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  4. Change --> Karek. I'm pretty sure a lot of people just ignore the stuff at the beginning, better tell it when they need it. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 20:51, 23 June 2008 (BST)
  5. Change -- As karek. And... all suggestions ought to go to Talk/Development before coming here. I don't care who you are, they should go there. Hell, Kevan should go there, too. Really. No one individual is the be-all-and-end-all of UD knowledge, but collectively we can usually get to the core of the matter. --WanYao 01:23, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  6. Change/Kill - If it is going to be done at all it should be like Karek said - the first time you enter. Come to think of it why doesn't everything have a pop up tip the first time you encounter it? The whole spray can thing could have been avoided if the first time you found a can it said to use type in the graffiti box. Actually, generators and flak jackets could use something like that.--– Nubis NWO 02:09, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  7. Change - As Karek as well. --Aeon17x 00:38, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  8. Kill - Maybe if there was a "Hints" box you could check off to give you advice...but the current set up of the start page doesn't really accommodate for everything. For a new player, not all that much is really intuitive, yes, but unless we have a full system, we shouldn't really put things where they shouldn't be. So a little bit as Nubis. --Vandurn 14:18, 24 June 2008 (BST)
  9. Kill - As Karek. Just withdraw this suggestion and resubmit it with the improvement that the tip be given when they try to attack/search in a dark building for the first time (or two, or until they get to level 4 or something) -- boxy talki 15:00 24 June 2008 (BST)
  10. Change - As Karek. *horde mentality* -- THELORDGUNSLINGER 01:34, 27 June 2008 (BST)
  11. Kill - Needs work in Talk:Suggestions as stated above. --ZsL 20:33, 27 June 2008 (BST)
  12. Change - Better as a reminder/tip when entering a darkened building. gabdewulf 13:35, 7 July 2008 (BST)
Kill Just reading the Wiki pages is how I learned all the rules. Why burden the programmers just cause newbies can't be bothered to read? Johnny Fate 19:15 7 July 2008 (EST) Late vote struck. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 13:01, 8 July 2008 (BST)
Kill - How does this reflect anything in real life? How does it give any realism, whatsoever? if someone wants to know those percentages, then they can meta-game.Tylerisfat 11:03, 8 July 2008 (BST) Late vote struck. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 13:01, 8 July 2008 (BST)
