Zombie Movies
Any& all Discussion about zombie movie is encouraged!!
Romero Movies (...Of the dead)
- (MOVED FROM USER TALK PAGE) I believe that "Day of the Dead" was the best Zombie movie ever made, Props to George A. Romero.!
- If you think I am in error, or that you know more about "the best movie ever made" (DOTD), I encourage you to challenge me to a quiz. Winner take all, I am sure you know nothing of DOTD, NOTLD, DOTD, LOTD, or anything else... please take me up on the offer! "They are coming to get you B-A-R-B-A-R-A"!!!
Well, I'm not going to challenge you, but personaly I think the origonal Night Of the Living dead beats all the other films hands-down. Something about the claustophobia, black and white filming and the horrible ending.--SeventythreeTalk 07:59, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well I agree to disagree about the "God of Zombies", and how it all got started.. However, there is one flick that i always watch when I am getting ready for bed.. Day of the dead.. A template is on the way.. An Awesome movie by any standards.. I gets better every time you watch it!!--Airborne88T|Z.Quiz|PSS 08:13, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- But you are right 73.. George has a way with his ficks, it is the original NOTLD that screws with me to this day. Zombie movies are to only horror theme that upset me.. and it all goes back to the original 1960's "Night Of The Living Dead". I saw it as a kid, and wil never be able to shake that experience. What a twisted wonderful man george is..haha.--Airborne88T|Z.Quiz|PSS 09:05, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- I dunno. Somehow, despite the fact that NOTLD was filmed on a much smaller budget, with less in the way of special effects, it feels more real than every other zombie film out there.--SeventythreeTalk 11:22, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, there is something about NOTLD that just rocks. It is hands down one of the best movies of its time, and even now most films can't come close to it. Even the new Land Of The Dead with it's huge budget and "big studio" backing... Just isn't as good. The characters are all shallow and the plot is just a bit weak. Just goes to show it is hard to top a classic.. Even for the King of the Zombies.--Airborne88T|Z.Quiz|PSS 14:52, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's because when you have near zero budget for special effects you need to make much more of an effort with plot/character development. That and it was the first movie to actualy bother casting a black man as the hero. Right in the middle of the civil rights movement too. Brave move.--SeventythreeTalk 22:35, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oh for sure.. Did you notice how the black guy slaps Barbara when she freaks out?? I am sure that ruffled a few feathers back in the day. If you look at the old posters for NOTLD, they offer "life insurance" in case you get "sacred to death".. ha-ha. Romero said in a recent interview he liked having the financial backing of big companies but he plans to go back to his roots and only shoot small budget films. Not that it is a big risk for him. As long as the title reads "-Something-...Of The Dead" and he slaps his name on it, it will make tons of $$$--Airborne88T|Z.Quiz|PSS 23:37, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Mind you, he still makes the occasional point. Remember when the Zombies you wind up siding with in Land of the dead? Well, they all grab tools as they lay seige to the tower. Socalist/communist message much? Personaly I'm waiting for him to make house of the dead..... An intense set peice of emotion focusing on a burgeoning relationship between two married people, possibly sabotaged by a cranky old uncle. Set in an undertakers with absoultely no zombies at all! Imagine the irony!--SeventythreeTalk 23:46, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- That's a good point! I think George R. is the only director to actually have a social message in his zombie films. I know that "Fiddler's Green" is a representation of George Bush/war in Iraq/ problems of America. He always has a black lead character in his films as well. NOTLD is The leader of the upstairs, Dawn is a kick ass police officer, Day is the chopper pilot (the only one smart enough to fly), ....Then he switches up on us. The main black character is the leader of the zombies. I also like the "zombie evolution over time". Many other films just make "super zombies" for the the following films which I always thought was just lame.--Airborne88T|Z.Quiz|PSS 00:44, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

- Just want to mention... I've mentioned it before... I forget where.... but 28 days later and 28 weeks later are not traditional zombie movies, but they are zombie movies done in 'hard science fiction'. In Hard Science Fiction, you can't get away with doing things which are 'magical' or 'just because' - everything has a definitive reason - so in something about zombies, the reasoning behind it would be that they aren't dead - they just have a virus which makes them act very much like how zombies act, and the disease spreads in a manner similar to how zombie infection spreads. The same could be said for a much older movie called Lifeforce (although they were supposedly 'space vampires' the effect was basically like zombies. --Tselita 18:10, 14 April 2008 (BST)

Zombie theme discussion
My feelings on Zombies
- I believe a true "zombie" is DEAD. This kills the whole 28series, they were just "infected".
- I think that because were human at one time, they are held to the same limitations as people. I dismiss the "super zombie" as writers getting lazy. If anything, zombies should be slower than humans being that they are decaying and stiffing up. I do accept fresh corpses/recently deceased would be a bit more "limber" than those who clawed their way out of an old grave.
- I believe the zombie gets it's "strength" from the horde, not super powers. I mean how does a fat guy suddenly turn into a track star? If the zombie couldn't do it in life, he can't do it in death
- The "super power" of the zombie is that they are dead. They don't need food, you can shoot the crap out of them, they don't feel pain, ect. When you put tons of them together, you are in deep poop. If a hundred of them lay siege to your defenses, they are never going away (you have to figure something out)
- I accept that zombies can come from an "infection" or "mystery radiation" this makes 2 classes of zombies:
- Infected: you have to be bitten or somehow infected to become a zombie. People in this class can die and stay dead w/out rising as a zombie as long as they were not infected
- "Mystery Radiation/chemical": This is the biggy. For some reason, everything dead is coming back to us. It doesn't matter if you had a heart attack or some natural cause of death: everyone is a zombie in the end
- I believe in the "head shot". I believe they are still a human machine, and the brain drives it. The only was to stop a zombie is to "sever the head or destroy the brain".
- I hate it when survivors chop up a zombie and the hands and shit come after them. It is not possible, appendages depend on nerve impulses from the brain to move. Duh! (This is more lazy writer crap)
- This 6th sense has something to do with why zombies only eat living people. Ever see a zombie trying to eat another zombie?
- I believe Zombies do have a 6th sense. I dunno why... They just seem to sense a survivor is around. Once they know that, they will never get bored and wander off.
- This is the only "super power" I accept. No reason, I just do.
- I believe that zombies can "remember stuff". They eat people because it is a basic instinct to do so.
- We established they are using their brain to some extent, so of course there are a few things they will "remember from before". How to open a door, use a simple tool, ect. Some zombies may remember more than others, because some zombies brains haven't decomposed as much.--Airborne88T|Z.Quiz|PSS 02:18, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
SO. Not a fan of the no more room arguement? You forgot
- Well I wouldn't say I am not a fan of the religious reason for zombies, it actually says in the bible "the dead shall rise from the grave". And in some movies no reason at all works ok to. I mean there is a reason, they just don't bother to say what it is. You are absolutely right. In a crisis people are their own worst enemy (like in UD). If you watch day of the day, the zombies really aren't as big a threat as the scientists and military not working together. And most people are not "survivors", lots of people don't have the first clue of what to do when things go south. Then they get desperate and try to take what others have.--Airborne88T|Z.Quiz|PSS 19:22, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- Uhm, I have something interesting to add to the zombie, rules, I think. You didn't cover the eating impulse real well there, and zombies are known to be extra resistant. So maybe all the need for eat is to refuel the body, as it spent a lot of energy healing wounds and reanimating it. Maybe after all the zombies have eaten they go see a movie or something, but of course they never show you that in the movies. 06:15, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- I have seen the "why zombies eat people" reason go all over the place. Resident Evil says it is just an instinct. Day of the dead Logan says they can take no nurishment from what they eat (cut out one's stomach). Night of the living dead 3 says they eat brains for electricity... I dunno, each movie seems to sort of "make some stuff up" as they go. Of all the horror creatures "Zombies" seem to have the least binding rules, they seem to just change from film to film. --Airborne88T|Z.Quiz|PSS 07:25, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- The same thing happens with vampire movies. Different vampire movies/TV shows/comics/etc change vampire powers/weaknesses/etc. I mean... Bram Stoker's Dracula states that vampires can go outside in the daytime, even! Anne Rice's version of vampires, and the traditional Vampyr mythos is notably different :) --Tselita 18:15, 14 April 2008 (BST)
- Voodoun zombies are the original zombies, and they're not dead, either. --Diano 20:33, 14 April 2008 (BST)

- I don't know, the kind of zombies in that book were one of my favorite kinds. In other zombie movies they just stand around and eat you. But in this book they sort of develop a hive mind, and become one creature. It's pretty sweet. 23:09, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- That is an interesting point. I did like the "drone" aspect, and they were not actually "dead" either. If i remember correctly they just went crazy at first and killed whoever they saw. I did especially enjoy King's vision of how the survivors banded together. I seem to remember a guy getting killed over a keg of beer? Is that right?--Airborne88T|Z.Quiz|PSS 01:29, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- The only only time I remember someone outside the main group getting killed was when the "zombies" made the people kill themselves after they killed one of the untouchables, but I'm not sure. 01:32, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- I should know! Always carry the book around with me. Just kidding. Let me go and fecth it. Can't find it. Anyway, If I remeber correctly, I believe two men were fighting over it. One guy severely wounded the other man and talked to the main character before walking off into the night.--MikhailA 03:39, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

- Can I butt in? The beer fight was toward the begining of the book as I recall. And I quite liked the story I must admit; nowhere near as good as The Stand, but at least it had an open ending - the reader could decide whether the hero's attempt to cure his son worked or not. Not a zombie story though! MoyesT RPM 15:43, 1 April 2008 (BST)
- Sure come on in! (it had stalled a bit anyways) It was a cool story, but for sure NOT A ZOMBIE MOVIE. The Stand was just awesome! All except for the end was a little lame. After 200 billion pages I was expecting something a bit better (No Spoiler). It is like King just got tired and ended it.--Airborne88T|Z.Quiz|PSS 16:11, 1 April 2008 (BST)
