Suggestion description
With all the rampant murders amongst the survivors of the zombie outbreak, people have learnt to be suspicious of those they do not recognise, watching them for any abnormal behaviour.

You can now Watch objects in the same area as you. You select a target via. a drop down menu.

Valid targets include entranceways, people, zombies, generators, transmitters and barricades.

Watching an object will prevent you from noticing anything else happening in the room (other than game news and lights off/on, that's too hard to miss).

There are two kinds of watching, Standard and Covert. Standard reduces your AP gain to 1AP an hour, but the person being watched will get a notice saying that they are being watched by you. Covert will not deliver that message 50% of the time, but you will not gain AP whilst watching them.

Whilst watching a person (survivor/zombie), you observe every action they take, including searching for items, using First Aid Kits, attacks and other things that you otherwise would miss. Watching barricades will allow you to see who adds to them (if done inside) and who demolishes them ,if you are on the same side of the barricade as the attacker. If you are on the opposite side of the barricade to the attacker (you're inside, they're outside for example), you will notice a drop in the barricade level, but not who did it. Watching generators will allow you to see who attacks and fuels generators. Watching transmitters will allow you to see who transmits signals, and who attacks the transmitter. Watching entranceways will allow you to see who barricades past VSB2+ (if inside), and give you a notice when people enter or leave a room.

Watching is active for as long as you do not move your character (unless you go inactive, in which case it will be broken) and your target is still visible. If any action is performed, the target goes away (barricades taken down, person killed or leaves, generator/transmitter destroyed, entrances over-barricaded) or if the building loses power and goes dark, then you will receive a message saying that your observation of the target has been broken, and the watching state will be annuled at which point AP gain and event messages will return to normal. Nothing happens if the target returns.

Votes that do not conform to the above may be struck by any user.

The only valid votes are Keep, Kill, Spam or Dupe. If you wish to abstain from voting, do not vote.

Keep Votes

  1. Author vote - Justified --Blake Firedancer T E RNL? P.I.S.I.T. 07:20, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
  2. Keep - While many may never use this skill, the coding wouldn't be to hard (It just posts the person you are watchings actions to you "things that happened since last turn" list. the potential for spaming is nil due to the fact that the persons actions are posted to the watchers page and no one else's. The potential for multi abuse is low but present in that they might use several accounts to watch several things. (on the other hand try naming anything that doesn't have multi-abuse potential). There are a few problems however. Most of these stem from an over complication of the idea. I would remove "zombies" from the list of eligable targets since the only thing zombies do once they get into a room is attack and ruin. The other main over complication I see is having 2 different modes of watching. consider removing the "covert mode", this is needlessly complex. The last problem I see is a common one on this wiki. You nerfed your own idea. Is it to much to say that when I see the guy that I was watching earlier walk back into the building I'm staying at that I start watching him again? And why can't I see who barricades before VSB2+? I want to know who helped the team when the barricades got beaten down to LB. In the end a solid basis for a new ability that gives neither side an unfair advantage in this great conflict while still giving players one more way to play the game. --User:karanod 1552, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - This would provide too much text involuntarily. Since you don't lose AP, and you just don't gain it, people could use this to spam people's pages continuously. Also, it would be pretty pointless, because if someone saw the message, they'd leave the room and return, meanign you wouldn't be able to watch them any longer. Basically, it's pointless and overbearing. Yonnua Koponen 07:29, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill - People shouldn't be watched if they don't want to. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 09:15, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill I can't think of any legitimate reason for this. Gaining little no AP means its probably only going to be used by zerg accounts to spy for other characters.. The ability to keep a closer eye on what others are doing is possibly very usefull but with costs as high as this it just cannot work. --Honestmistake 10:44, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill - Standard watching is pointless as the target can just move to another location and back before they do anything, and covert watching is way too unreliable and expensive to be of any real use. Watching individual people is pretty much pointless anyway. Watching entrances would probably be too server-heavy, and separating radios and generators just makes it more useless to watch them. Also, you can already see who transmits with the radio. In short, I like mine better. --Midianian Big Brother Diary Room: [511,10] 11:07, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
  5. Kill - nice work on the balance stuff, but really this is just too flawed as an idea and imho against the nature of ud.--xoxo 11:36, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
  6. Kill, this would cause to much spam. --Angusburger 17:14, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
  7. Kill, Per Midianian, and what I said on Developing Suggestions. Linkthewindow Talk MCM 20:57, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
  8. Kill - Iscariot, you want to hear a joke? It was on talk suggestions. - tylerisfat 23:15, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
  9. Kill Just... slightly useless. At least, I would never use it.--Rachel Akebre 07:31, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
  10. Kill Useless. --William Told 08:37, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
  11. Kill Too complicated --Explodey 11:39, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Dupe - This is for cades. This is for attacks. Also, Observation version 1 and Version 2. You really need to be taking stuff like this to Talk:Suggestions. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 16:42, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
One, it's Developing Suggestions now. Two, I did (See the Discussion page). Had you, or anyone else, brought up those dupes I would have refrained from suggesting. Observation V2 was brought up by Midianian, but he considered it as 'borderline' and as such I disregarded it. In any case I see the possible zerging abuses, and perhaps if this doesn't make it a later version will have observation as a skill, with covert observation as a subskill of that. --Blake Firedancer T E RNL? P.I.S.I.T. 07:45, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
  2. Dupe - As above. --Papa Moloch 23:11, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

  6. Dupe - Yeah.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 21:00, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
  7. Dupe / Spam -- Dupe as above, spam because it's a bad idea anyway.--Jiangyingzi 22:30, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
  8. Spadoople -- as above. and kevan has already done some stuff in this direction in-game. enough already. --WanYao 12:08, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Advice to Suggesters

  1. Adding options to your suggestion is not good practice. Others will not vote on the options, only the main body; please don't ask them to do so.
  2. Once you have posted your suggestion, it is considered complete. Altering the suggestion mechanics after voting has begun nullifies existing votes, and is considered an abuse of the suggestions system. Doing so will result in your suggestion being removed from the voting system to removed suggestions, where you can work out the details and resubmit later if you desire. It is preferred that you remove your own suggestion and resubmit a new version with changes, if changes are needed.
  3. "Notes" added for clarification purposes, and correcting spelling/typos are permitted. When considering adding a clarification note, it is often better for all parties involved, for the author to remove the suggestion and resubmit it with the clarification included for the voters who have already placed their votes.

Advice to Voters

  1. You are voting on Suggestions, not Users. The text of your vote should not personally attack or denigrate the user who has submitted it... no matter how ridiculous the idea. Flaming and/or Trolling will not be tolerated.
  2. Before voting please read the Suggestions Dos and Do Nots and Frequently Suggested Ideas Page to read about concepts that have been generally considered unworkable in the past. You do not need to follow the guidelines on these pages but they are worth consideration before casting a vote.
  3. One vote per user. No exceptions. You cannot use multiple wiki accounts to vote on a suggestion.
  4. To Vote, use the [edit] button at the top of the voting section, then enter your vote in the the proper format to the end of the relevant section (keep/kill/spam).
  5. It is strongly recommended that voters (especially in the kill/spam sections) justify their vote to help others understand the reason they disagree. Feedback helps new suggesters get a feel for what the community does and does not want included in Urban Dead, and a deeper understanding of the balance needed for a workable suggestion.
  6. Votes must include a signature in order to be considered valid votes. To sign a vote, use --~~~~. Please remember to sign your votes! Unsigned votes will be deleted after 30 minutes or when found.
  7. Each Suggestion will be open to voting for two (2) weeks, measured from the suggestion's Timestamp, unless it is a Dupe or Spam. If, at the end of that time, there are two thirds (2/3) more Keep votes than Kill votes, the Suggestion will be moved to the Peer Reviewed Suggestions page. Otherwise, the Suggestion will be moved to the Peer Rejected Suggestions page.
Rules for Discussions

Votes are NOT the place to discuss Suggestions. This page and archived suggestion pages only to be used for the Suggesting and subsequent Voting of these suggestions. If you wish to discuss the suggestion or vote here, please use this page's Talk page (Suggestion talk:20081110 Watch). Suggestions do not have to be submitted in order to discuss them. Developing Suggestions can be used to workshop possible suggestions before they are submitted.

Valid Votes
  • Keep, for Suggestions that you believe have merit.
  • Kill, for Suggestions that you believe do not have merit. If you need to discuss a rule fix, use the discussion page.
  • Spam, for the most ridiculous suggestions.
Suggestions can be removed with Spam votes as described on the cycling suggestions page. If the criterion described there are not fulfilled, the suggestion must remain for the whole two weeks.
Spam votes are not a "strong kill", they are simply here to prevent the utterly ridiculous from clogging up the system. If you do not like the idea, and it's not some crazy uber power or something else ridiculous, VOTE KILL, NOT SPAM. Spam votes will be counted as Kill when votes are tallied.
  • Dupe, for Suggestions that are exact or very close duplicates of previous suggestions. For a Dupe vote to be valid, a link must be provided to the original suggestion.
Dupe votes can be used to remove suggestions as described on the cycling suggestions page. Dupe votes will not be counted when votes are tallied.
  • Humourous, for suggestions that are obviously intended to be satirical, or of comedic value only.}}
Suggestions can be removed with Humourous votes as described on the cycling suggestions page. If the criterion described there are not fulfilled, the suggestion must remain for the whole two weeks.
Invalid Votes
  • Server Load and Programming Complexity are NOT very good Kill reasons. You are voting on the merit of the suggestion and whether or not you think it belongs in the game. Server load/complexity issues are up to Kevan to decide.
  • X should be implemented first is not a valid reason for a vote. You are voting on the merit of THIS suggestion, not how it compares to others.
  • Votes that do not have reasoning behind them are invalid. You MUST justify your vote.
Comments
  • Re may be used to comment on a vote. Only the original author and the person being REd can comment. Comments are restricted to a single comment per vote, and it is expected that Re comments be as short as possible. Reing every kill vote is considered abuse of the Re comment. A Re does not count as a vote, and any subsequent discussion not part of the Re comment should be held on the discussion page if there is any extended commenting.
  • Note is used by System Operators to invalidate trolling-based votes. Only Sysops may remove troll-based votes and they do so with a strikeout <s></s> in order to preserve the trolling removal for posterity. The voter may contest the strikeout with the Sysop that struck their vote out on the discussion page. Only a System Operator may remove a strikeout.
