moving stuff

so, i hope you dont mind me moving things around in your new pet project. Its been some loooong time since i last saw something worth contributing here in the wiki that i kind of butted in there. Hope the changes were useful, though --hagnat 18:40, 18 July 2012 (BST)

Comment on my survivors list then you :P. You're one of the people old enough to actually remember them and their impact in the game, I could use more of that and less of "I'm from 2007". --Karekmaps 2.0?! 21:41, 18 July 2012 (BST)
will do, good sire. Its just a matter of me contributing as much as i can, in the short spasms of contributions i am able to (doing lots of overtime here at work, building new games and shit like that) --hagnat 21:56, 18 July 2012 (BST)
No problem. The only reason its in my namespace is the fact I think its a project that needs a referee. --RossWHO????ness 22:17, 18 July 2012 (BST)

Back In The Flesh

Just thought I'd say, I have returned, and so has my sister, http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/User:Alex_Yamata. We don't have great economy over here, lost power and internet for awhile without the money to get it back. Jerrack Malton Safe Zone Security 17:18, 22 July 2012 (BST)

So...

tl;dr ...I agree, Q2019 needs to establish an official game guide but not on wiki.
I don't want to discuss Q2019 in your suggestion's voting section. Q2019's game guide should've been developed years ago, and to my knowledge, there was a wiki or talk of a wiki (wiki discussion thread), and no one wanted a wiki like this wiki, so they chose a game guide instead which still lacks vital information (but there's a hidden "tools" page, must be logged in to see it). Anyway, I agree with you; a wiki is better than no wiki because players want/need game guides. But the system operators here are biased and act like U.S. Supreme Court justices. Sysops, moderators and administrators should be neutral and ignore their own personal opinions (no discretion!). So I don't know what a good balance for a wiki should be: moderator-only edits or player edits. I dislike the moderator-only wiki, but the game usually has a forum and in-game chatboxes for players to communicate, which still have to be moderated which requires man-hours. IRC sucks because it's player-moderated which leads to a lot of biased bans. I'm trying to tie this into why this wiki is looked down upon...but why it has been successful (for retrieving game-related information). -- Son of Sin 03:59, 2 August 2012 (BST)

You already have a game guide, it just needs to be, well finished. http://www.quarantine2019.com/game-guide/index.html could be really useful, but when even the 6 main topics don't all have pages, its not only frustrating, its also off putting to new players. So now you have forums. Forums attract a certain kind of person, whereas wikis attract another kind. The ease of a wiki, especially a huge one like this, is you can search for almost anything and find it without having to interact with anyone. Infighting on UDwiki is based off having several moderators, and its fair to say some of them historically have been terrible, grim s, thad etc, but I don't feel thats the case now, at least based off the levels of vandalism, misconduct and general drama we put up with these days. --RossWHO????ness 09:02, 2 August 2012 (BST)
If I may be so rude to interupt here: the current management of the wiki is better than I've seen on a lot of other wiki's. The only thing I'm really lacking sometimes are some restrictions, not when it comes to content, but when it comes to format: a lot of group pages are ridiculously empty, messy or consist of a single user starting up his own group, which tends to create some clusterfucks of category pages. I have been cleaning POV descriptions and nonsense out of location pages and I've seen People like Bob Moncrief, Vapor or Ross do some great work as well, but you always have to keep in mind that maintaining a wiki is very time consuming :) My idea? Have the Admin positions be filled by the people behind Q2019 and elect players after a while to Mod positions ;) -- Johnny Twotoes 13:54, 2 August 2012 (BST)

A wild Aichon preemptively answers your questions

Since it's your tradition to ask a question of sysop candidates, I figured I'd go ahead and preemptively answer it for fun. So, in response to any questions along the lines of, "What did you learn from your previous time as sysop?", "What do you think needs to be changed most on the wiki?", or "Why do you want to be a sysop?", my answer is "This place could really use a benevolent dictator." :P Aichon 03:18, 10 August 2012 (BST)Like.png 1 person likes this comment.

MU on brainstock

I'd link you now, but copy/paste is a pain on this tablet. Look for it at Malton Uprising#An invitation to all of Malton. MU also had a forum but accounts are no longer validated so you won't be able to access any info. Maybe DT or Hibernaculum or another PKer at the time can provide you details. I'll post links to those threads later when I get to a computer if you still need them. ~Vsig.png 17:39, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

You mean it just that thread? --RossWHO????ness 18:47, 11 August 2012 (BST)
No, but I beleive that's where DEM attempted to funnel most of the public discussion. I believe there was also a password protected thread on Brainstock where allies could discuss things. There are several backlinks to other areas of discussion in that thread as well. That's the thread in which they acknowledged the MU's manifesto and tried to respond to concerns. Some time later in the year, they made sweeping policy changes. They claimed it wasn't in direct response to MU's manifesto, but it isn't hard to put it all together. Some even claimed that Kristi stalled the policy changes until a time after MU ended so that no credit could be given to MU. ~Vsig.png 19:11, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Got you. Seemed a bit sparse, I suspected as such. --RossWHO????ness 19:59, 11 August 2012 (BST)
There are multiple 50+ page threads of Brainstock and many smaller threads which spawned from the original thread, not to mention the threads discussing the DEM's alt/script policies which actually propelled the MU from a small PKing event to two-and-a-half month campaign. What you have to understand about the MU is that it had its roots in years of slow-burning resentment to various things the DEM did, and when finally someone gave all the resentful parties one single outlet to vent their frustrations, the drama llama fell in love, got married, bought a house with a white picket fence, and had a litter of baby dramallama's. But don't think that reading all those threads will give you any clear idea of what happened - it's all just the same old arguments over and over and over again. You want to know what really went down, ask me for read-only access to the MU forums. -DTPraise KnowledgePK 20:18, 11 August 2012 (BST)

Greetings

Skull n syringes.gif

Some time back, by CRES Doctor noticed the The Big Prick was beginning to stagnate, leading him to put out a call for individuals interested in helping TBP move forward. I have volunteered my services to help this happen. In my humble opinion, the idea behind the formation of TBP was among the more unique in Malton's history. In its time, it broke up the monotony that was quickly setting in and gave adventurous individuals a chance to try something new. It also helped de-stigmatize people regarding combat revives and make Malton a place where those of dual nature could have a chance to explore their separate agendas. As many of these issues are not as large as they once were, it may seem we have reached a time when Malton no longer needs The Big Prick. I say, it's not all about being needed. Do you still enjoy reviving zombies? Is your first response at a break-in to check for brain rot? Mine is. Being a prick is not a job, it is part of who we are, and though it may not need us in the same way that it once did, with the rise of Apathy and the decline of survivor groups in Malton, the city cannot afford to lose the Big Prick. Accordingly, I have begun reworking some of the format of TBP pages including a retool of the main page and the introduction of and achievement system that will let pricks gain recognition on their own time on their own terms. As a person who still chooses to fly the colors of TBP, I would appreciate your feedback on my talk page or on the TBP forum. Thank you for your time and may your syringes never be blunted. --Albert Schwan Albert Schwan  Friday, 31 August 2012

Spambat IPs

When you ban spambot IPs, please make sure to uncheck "Block anonymous users only". Anonymous edits are already globally disabled on the wiki, and edits made using user accounts are unaffected by the IP ban when this check mark is set. TL;DR, it takes away the whole effect of the ban and results in "Ze goggles! Zey do nothing!". - Otherwise, keep up the good work and the extra effort. -- Spiderzed 19:22, 19 September 2012 (BST)

Only on IP bans though, username bans it's actually set up to work in reverse and stop account creation via the attached IP and you should be checking box 3 in those cases. --Karekmaps 2.0?! 19:33, 19 September 2012 (BST)
As a quick addition, while Karek is very correct, checking the box to block an IP when setting up a user block will only result in an IP block that lasts for 24 hours (check the IP block log to confirm this fact), so you'll still need to apply an infinite length IP block later on. Revive policies

AFAIK all DEM related groups have a no Combat Revive-policy, mainly because revived zed turn PKer all too often (which is an enemy that's far harder to fight), as well as DHPD, ACC and KT I think. The best way to find out is to take a look at survivor group pages, which often display it. You can try and discuss it, but the last discussion on that topic ended with the disaster we all witnessed... Give it your best shot, although I'm not sure how much longer I'll remain on this side of the front. PB&J 17:58, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Wow. Thats a lot of people. Can I start with you though? Mind having a discussion here with me? Can you sum up roughly your arguments for a no revive policy? --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 18:17, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
The only problem I can think of is that zed switch all too easy with PKer mode. And even considering that, I'm all for it, when the situation permits. PB&J 18:25, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Ok. Thats a start. Can I ask a simple question. Under what circumstances would you shoot a zombie? --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 18:28, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
When it looks at me as if it wants to eat me...
No, seriously: when I deem it preferable, which switches from situation to situation. If there are a lot of allies near me and we're in a place where revives are rare: definitely shoot. If we're in a lit NT and the zed arrive en mass: CR the shit out of them. PB&J 18:32, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Ok. If a zombie is likely to eat you, you shoot it. Where would you shoot a zombie. Inside? Outside? In a ruin? --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 18:34, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Inside in case needed (safehouse, low lvl survivors there, etc), outside: never (counterproductive), in ruins: when I plan on cleaning them (if I want to HIPS, I look for an empty one). PB&J 18:44, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Makes sense. So what your saying is, in general, you shoot zombies to remove them from a building. Is that a fair reflection? --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 18:48, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
While I accept trenchcoaters as being nothing more or less than unoriginal role players, I never shoot a zed if it doesn't stand in my way, coming to think of it :) So yes, a pretty narrow, but fair reflection. PB&J 21:11, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Right. So we both have basically the same approach. I want to clear zombies out of a building, and so do you. Our only difference is the tool we use to do this. Your fear of the revive issue is that living zombies are likely to cause more damage than zombies. Correct? --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 21:41, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
I'm not afraid to revive, it's just my group's policy, and that's their main argument (and the only one I agree with afaik) PB&J 21:47, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
O.K. What i'm going to do is ask about some specific circumstances. Would you be willing to revive, A) A level 1 zombie. B) A fully levelled zombie with no human skills and no stored XP. C) A zombie who's group affiliation was (Dual Nature) D) A zombie inside a building who went Mhrr?--Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 22:04, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
A) No, it's like shooting a level 1 survivor.
B) Yes, he's experienced enough to jump AND it's combat-effective (if he doesn't have 10k Exp stacked up).
C) Yes, Dual Nature are like the pepper in a very bland soup: they can go really good, or really bad. Fun either way. (the Russian Roulette effect I guess).
D) Yes. Mrh? is Mrh?, and demanding the use of RPs before you revive is just too bureaucratic for me. PB&J 22:11, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Excellent. Now turn it around. You've got a zombie, so you know this one. What would you do if your zombie was in blackmore on the 5th, where 30 zombies were inside and the doors were wide open if you were combat revived? --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 22:16, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Personally? I'd have a chat, maybe bite someone via the text command and jump. Dead Culting is just bad karma. PB&J 22:17, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
url hacks are fine, but death culting is bad karma? strange. Apart from that, that's exactly what I would do. But why would you do that? --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 22:18, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Because it's fun. The url hack is fine, because it fits the character: when I'm a zed, I always behave like a zed, even when I'm alive. My survivor will never zed spy either, in the end. Death culting, PKing, it's what blurred the lines between the two factions (along with some game changes, but I don't want to start a discussion on that). PB&J 22:28, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Neither do I. The reason I would do it, is because in the circumstances, throwing myself out of the window and coming back inside is the best, most efficient way of killing survivors. Which brings me to my next question. Why are PKers worse than zombies? --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 22:31, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
They don't fight with in the open, you can't stop them with barricades and combat revives aren't even an option. That eliminates all efficient ways to actually stop a zombie, and thus creates confusion and a lack of survivor pride. I'm not saying they are worse people, since some PKers (and groups) have an acceptable playing style, they're just harder to fight and can kill easier. PB&J 22:39, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Right. I'm actually going to make some points before we move on.

1. As you yourself have suggested there are specific circumstances when reviving in a combat situation is a sensible approach. This is my first issue with the no revives policy. It's inflexibility is a huge disadvantage for the groups involved.

2. I like maths. This is a huge thing for me. On my own I can clear 4 rotters from a necrotech, power and repair the place, grand total 43ap, expending 4 syringes in the process. Without needles the same process would take (approx) 91ap and expend 24 shotgun shells, (not including reloading). Saying my 4 rotters all come back as PKers I've still got enough AP to revive all of their victims before I expend more AP than you have.

3. I've been combat reviving zombies for years, and the number who have come after me is minuscule. A revived zombie with an axe is less dangerous than a zombie using his claws. A rotter who has just been combat revived is highly unlikely to be covered in guns. He's a career zombie, with brain rot. He's really not expecting that many revives. Revived zombies are more likely to target gennies and try and create pinatas than go after you. Or, like both you and me, throw ourselves off a building.

4. Combat reviving works on another level that is often overlooked. A revived zombie hardly ever stays outside a building when dumped. The AP's focussed on destroying cades are reduced. Read this for a randomly wordy justification.

Discuss. ;) --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 22:59, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

1. I agree and I've been advocating looser CR policies ever since I developed some insight in the matter.
2. True, not much to discuss. The main problem being that these guys also kill (fueled) generators and that, as I said earlier, they blur the line between "your friends" and "the enemy". A zed is quite easy to recognize, PKers are not. Consequence: it is far easier to target zed than to target PKers. Everyone present in a building will kill a zed, cause you know, brain-eating and all that. But you'll have to communicate to the others that that one guy who came in a couple hours back is a PKer, and just shouting it in the room doesn't always cut it.
3. I agree once more.
4. I never thought about that actually, since being a survivor is mostly about focussing all your efforts into one purpose or location... Have you tested this hypothesis? PB&J 23:10, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Yeah. Have4croft (in the link) was the only time Ive seen it tried group wise. But on an individual basis I do it all the time. I like scanning zombies anyway, so if I see a group of level 4 or 5 zombies I'll CR the lot of them. Just so they can go and get flak jackets. Aren't I nice? Plus that way, any passing zombies carry on. A group of 5 zombies is the start of something, a pile of corpses is nothing. --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 23:31, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
I can't help myself. Having played survivor, PKer, death cultist and rotter, I find when playing a zombie CRs are the most annoying thing survivors can do. When I'm death culting, I love them. My issue isn't the DEM or anyone else having a no CR policy, the one survivor group I'm in has one (although it's based on the idea zombies want to be zombies and it's mean to revive them). My problem is that no one stopped to think a siege situation in Ridleybank might be different than kicking a few zombies out of an building in a normal suburb. The inability of a group to change their tactics based on the situation is going to end poorly. The RRF only allows the GC to attack or do anything as survivors. There was no mall meaning PKers and death cultist would be out of ammo after a few days (plus they are someone else for the horde to eat). Once the cades are gone, it's no harder for a zombie to enter than a PKer. I agree in many situations CRing can cause more problems than it solves. A siege to hold one building isn't one of those situations. However, I suspect the blame lays in the leadership of the groups that were present, you just happen to be the one here, Johnny. :P --Open the Box Org XIII Alts 23:22, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks K. I'm amazed that such large groups have such an inflexible approach. --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 23:25, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Once as a new guy I combat revived someone and they came straight after me, made a big humiliating speech and executed me in front of everyone. I ran away embarrassed and never combat revived again ;_; A ZOMBIE ANT 00:57, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Could I get your opinion on this? Not the numerous typos, grammar error and misspellings but the content in general?--Open the Box Org XIII Alts 03:55, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Project1

Hello again.

As I'm sure you've noticed, I've been working on a region of my own for a future upgrade? to Urban Dead.

Click me and you shall be rewarded.

I'm more often than not wondering if I've bitten off more than I can chew. With 400k-600k locations that have an actual unique-ish name to them, FML.

If you have any advice or suggestions for my project or even feels of condolences or mockery, by all means, lump 'em on me. The latter two of which I deserve. Christ, I feel sorry for Kevan for having to do this as well.

Cheers! -- TheBardofOld 22:49, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

He never did! He used random name generation! I'd say, plan out how it links up on paper first. --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 22:51, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Dang. I'm actually planning a lot of it out, well, at least the layout. I wing it as I go along, making small changes and putting in buildings that I didn't think of before. It's mind-boggling work. -- TheBardofOld 00:27, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
It is. Also, I.m never going to get mine done. So feel free to steal suburbs if it helps. --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 12:43, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
I'm fine, for now. Personally, I'd just like to see if I could get this all done by the end of the year. Sort of a testament to my perseverance, as in, if I could do this in two months, imagine what I could do with four? lol..-- TheBardofOld 15:07, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Hey, Goatfucker

Actually, I was thinking of the scene in the first episode shortly after he breaks the tv. While i'm not sure I agree about how normal he is sober, that being the episode where he sobers up for Lent (a first in many years) I still say his usual state strikes me as far closer to lobotimization than mere drunkness. However with your other examples being of Jack's vugar nature (that is unless you're going to suggest his wet tshirt fantasy ends much more tamely than I see any reason to suspect), and how it was handled if I may I believe your missing my point. It's not that the series was vulgar, but the character. That is while i've seen productions about Genghis that didn't explicitly show me violence, he lead a violent life. So if you based a character off of him I would expect I could passingly broach the subject of violence, even a notably unpleasant form of it such as fratricide, which I believe there were at least rumors of concerning G, or even your own depraved fantasies (that I most definitely don't share about Julia Chen)--Adam Garou 20:50, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Ah, Chen. I think that the characters defining trait is his drunkeness, whereas you thing its a general vulgarity. Got you. --Ross Less Ness Enter Stranger... 22:55, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
