Unused images

Currently we hover around 45-50 images, literally all of which are ingame screenshots that never got used (I do notice these things), outdated NecroNet scans or images for groups that either never got off the ground or became defunct. Boxy's inclusionist scaremongering is really fucking stupid. Cyberbob  Talk  16:17, 1 October 2009 (BST)

Eat shit and die. I said 2 weeks and I maintain that. Personal apathy to whether they were deleted after one week doesn't mean I support the change in any way. Don't fall any sort of pressure on me just because your policy/scheduled vote fell down in flames for reasons other than which we both predicted/accepted. I was always going to vote against. Now I won't do it grudgingly. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 12:43, 2 October 2009 (BST)

Your guide has passed. I've added it to Guides under your sandbox link so feel free to change it whenever you decide to change the page location. Random Bonus Mandem

I was reading DDR's talk page and saw the Random Bonus Man whilst talking about the manhunt.There seems to be a few issues;

What if
 • A character unrelated to the manhunt kills them? Answered.
 • Someone logs into the character, and makes them jump? Answered.
 • Someone logs onto the character to find out where they are? Answered.
 • Someone logs into the account and changes the pass? Not possible.

See Lexicon:Main Page, go to the part where it says "Progression of the game".

Basically, once all the articles are finished, you cite a phrase from someone's article that isn't your own. These are phantoms and the old rules apply to them. No writing your phantoms or phantoms about your article. (You are, however, allowed to write an article in round three, if that word/phrase has been cited from the citation of your round 1 article. But not directly from your article.)

Do you get it now, or does it make no sense whatsoever? --RahrahCome join the #party!20:23, 22 October 2009 (BST)

You don't need to make a reference to any other round one articles other than the one the phrase you're writing about is from. So if you choose to write the article "Deathly Gaze" from "Apathy", you would just have to write "Apathy" at the bottom in the "References" section. (See this for an example of a references section.) --RahrahCome join the #party!20:37, 22 October 2009 (BST)

Typical ghost behaviour, I'm afraid. The Revolution page you see on the Orphaned list is a totally different page to the one you've linked too in the header- The Wiki software prevents us from manipulating the former in any such way, it just redirects us to La Révolution no matter what. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 17:50, 11 October 2009 (BST)

Unfortunately they are going to be part of the everyday running of the wiki from now on, and since they are such a bitch to deal with, it's best to do it in a large, sweeping, purge manoeuvre. Not as large as the one Ross had to deal with though :( --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 01:06, 16 October 2009 (BST)

... survivor-recovery-from-instant-death-all-across-Malton involves lots and lots of new Scientist characters and possibly some DEM zergers or something. No, but really, how do you think it'd happen? --Bob Boberton TF / DW Littlemudkipsig.gif 21:34, 27 October 2009 (BST)

For a start, reviving bodies. Thats, (Checks stats page) 1619 people who can stand up straight way. Now discounting pk'ers and combat revivers lets say 1000.

Then you've got idled characters, most long term players have them. I can unidle 2 chatacters stocked with needles tomorrow (A throwback from The Dead You never know when a mega horde Will sweep through. Lets say 200.

Then you've got the REALLY organised revival groups. Personally speaking I know M.E.R.C.Y. not only regularly perform revives, but have allies throughout Northern Vinetown that could probably revive themlseves completely within a few days. In this case alone thats 50 survivors.

So lets say 1250 Survivors, before new characters, are up and about on day 1. Judging the reaction to a major event, lets say they all revive one person. And half of them die afterwards. Thats about 1800 by day 2.

In the meantime zombies will probably go mental, ransack most malls and half the city. Survivors will probably congregate in the North East and south west, and abandon everything else for a few weeks.

Borehamwood would take a bit longer. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 21:48, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks.

Thanks, I appreciate you telling me about the policy re: the Burn Towers comment. I still felt that I probably should let it stand since apparently it was voted into "humorous locations". I really actually struggled with that-that is how offensive I found it-so maybe I need to lighten up since it is only a game. Still, people who understand that event know better and I felt I owed it to those that do not understand it to at least express some of my disbelief that someone could be that callous.

So regardless, I appreciate you informing me of the correct policy. Thanks again!--Belisarius17 18:50, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Answer

Gah! I am terribly sorry; I have been somewhat busy the past few days and never got around to answering your question. If given sysop, I would most often use it to monitor A/SD. Due to time differences (I live in the western US), I feel I would be able to rapidly respond to deletion, protection, and/or move requests filed in the less trafficked, "early" hours of the day, between midnight to four o'clock GMT. If necessary I would rule in on vandalism, but my contributions in that section would be quick and by the book (it also would save time with that UGGS bot that likes to resurface nearly every time I am working on demerging locations). In essence I would continue mostly along my current lines as janitor, but also delve into the more administrative parts of that task and ideally remove some of the red tape.--~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 02:01, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

First email! D:

So....Hey grimchy! Look, I know you hate this place with the burning fire of a thousand white hot death suns of death, so I'm not asking you to come back or anything.

What I am asking you is as a current 'crat of this damned place (and it still is pretty fucked up), what were some of the changes you were going to try and make before your very shitty misconduct case happened? I'm asking this because recently I've wrote up a complete over haul of many of the wiki's systems (trying to find it now, misplaced the damn thing. Oh well, it's not like the users will actually do what's best for the place anyway), and I was wondering if you could give me some more ideas to correlate with mine. You always had some pretty good ideas and standards, even if you were abrasive.

Also, by the way, your ban is up.

First response!:

1: I do not know how or why the wiki points to my main email, since I left it pointing at this one that I never ever check, precisely so I did not have to suffer the indignity of reading emails from ignoramii such as yourself.

2: I permanently banned myself. I don't know what you brain dead dipshits did in my absence and I don't care. If you all felt, as it seems you did, the need to be self important and perform some stupid little parade before the masses and convict me on charges of whatever, then I truly do pity you, because it is pathetic.

3: Anything I wrote I subsequently destroyed in the minutes after I departed. I have no desire to sit about trying to recall them so you can make a good call a year too late. I have better things to do than pander to the whims of a pitiful little twit who was all to eager to brainlessly bandwagon without ever asking why.

You are so slow on the uptake it would almost be funny if it weren't so absolutely and crushingly idiotic. The world of corrupt clique politics suddenly doesn't work for you, so NOW you want to fix things. If you wanted to fix them, you would have started when the problem first became obvious instead of waiting until you had your dick in a vice. And you were most definitely around then, so don't give me any crap about not seeing it or not being around for it.

Do not attempt to contact me again. When I left, I bloody well meant it. I have not so much as taken a peek since I left. Do not attempt to drag me back into that fetid shithole, even in a roundabout way such as this. I want nothing to do with its inept fucking politics or stupid fucking rules any longer. That's the reason I left. Why I was planning to leave ages before anything was brought against me and I was cliqued out on the most absurd grounds.

Have fun in the cesspit you helped dig along with everyone else. I hope you drown in it you chickenshit scumbag.

Mah email back!:

Okay, after this email I won't be contacting you. Just felt the need to point out a few things.

1. I didn't bandwagon against you. Hell, I wasn't even entirely active during your case. By the time they started trying to demote you and shit, I was missing for a week or two. Hell, I still don't agree with what they did. You allegations against me are wrong in those departments.

2. I've tried to fix things many times (hint: it was during the time you were inactive). I just never had the "status" or "trustability" as the "almighty mods" of the time. Time and time again the masses (which we obviously agree they don't know shit and sheep to whatever goal seems more convenient) shot everything down on flimsy bases. The same thing is probably going to happen on the policies I put up for voting later, hell might even happen on my re-evaluation bid tomorrow.

3. It's kind of hard to have fun in a place as fucked up as the wiki. To be truthful, I'm past beginning to feel the same way you do about the place. That overhaul that I told you about is pretty much a last ditch effort to save the place, because your method has been proven not to work. If I can't get it to go through, or even some of the more important parts, then I'm just going to leave.

On another note, although you said I shouldn't be contacting you any more, and I did say I would stop up there, do you use linux/fedora by any chance?

HIS FINAL RESPONSE O: :O :

I am forced to wonder if you have some form of congenital defect when it comes to the practices of both reading in general and following instructions. Perhaps your head would be better employed as radiation shielding on a nuclear reactor, because obviously nothing seems to penetrate it.

I specifically asked you not to respond. I did this because I do not care about your pathetic little politics. I took a great deal of time to fine tune that message to be as offensive as possible while remaining brief so you would not feel tempted to message me back and still understand how little I care about your pathetic community. Unfortunately you have become even more stupid since I last saw you, and thus I failed.

First of all, you have never tried to fix things. At least you never did when I was around. You and your little clique went around being little prats generally causing disruption and acting like a pack of five year olds. You were not by any means the worst offenders out there, but you loved to bandwagon anything that seemed even remotely entertaining and many things that simply were not. You were pests. If you had genuinely wanted to fix things you would have stood up and actually voiced your support when someone else tried to fix it, but you kept your head down, as did everyone else who supported me back in those days. Saving your own skin, allowing me to be dismissed as some renegade with "dumb" ideas, a "sore sphincter", and no support at all. Your desire to remain silent hindered things immensely. I tried to fix things, so no blame for the current level of catastrophe there can be laid at my feet. It lands squarely at you and yours, and since I am gone forever I have no obligation to throw you a lifeline as you suddenly realise that you are up to your neck in your own effluence.

Your little note, adding that I was no longer banned was rich. Don't think I didn't see it for what it was. You were trying ton get me to come back and bail you out. Well tough shit. Nothing could make me happier than watching that place go up in flames. Of course, I likely wouldn't find out for weeks. I still know next to nothing of anything that has happened since I left.

You never tried to fix things. At least you never did it before I left. You were just one of quite a few people who could have stood up and done the right thing but didn't want to stand up and do anything about it, because sometimes, sometimes, the problems in the system worked in your favour. The bandwagoning allegation was general, not a simple case of moaning about victimisation. You have always been quick to jump on a bandwagon that AHLG and 73, or other friends of yours were on.

So to sum up:

1: I am not coming back, no matter what tricks you try to use to bait me, though... 2: I am sorely, sorely tempted to use what influence I have left against you out of spite because... 3: When someone hostile tells you not to talk to them, shut the fuck up and walk away. 4: I feel no sympathy for you or your position, and have no desire to see the wiki become a functioning entity anymore. So you can take your high and mighty aspirations and stick them where the sun doesn't shine. 5: I can only hope that my "Fuck you" allows you to experience even a sliver of what it feels like to be completely abandoned by those who share your professed opinion in a time of need.

If you are going to leave the wiki, then do it. Don't sit around saying you are going to do it to me, because I don't give a shit.

If you respond to this, I will have to get very creative in what form of retribution I will take. No means no. I hope that one day this concept penetrates your skull to the near vacuum within.

Signiture Cleanup

I don't know if you'll be able to help me out or not, but I was looking to clean up my signiture a little bit. I noticed when you sign your post, it ends up being coded as: . When I sign mine, it ends up coming out as: Poodle of Doom<span style="color: CornflowerBlue">M!</span style> . This, as you can see, adds a couple lines of coding, and can make editing quite messy. I was wondering how I get it to come out like yours.... do you know? -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be. 23:39, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

If you go to your preferences, your nickname should be set to resemble the following: . Note the "Nosubst|". It keeps your signature from being substituted into the page, and instead just inserts it dynamically as needed, like what you see with many other people's signatures. Aichon 00:00, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much. I appreciate it. I know that sorting through a shit ton of code can be annoying, espically when half of it is unneccessary. --Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be. 02:05, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
I suppose I should have pointed you to Template:Nosubst instead. Those instructions are better. Note that you don't actually put the SUBST in the Nickname yourself. It does it for you automatically. Aichon 02:09, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Or he can continue to contribute to the lessening of the server load by using a non-templated signature.-- SA 02:13, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

So which is worse, my current signiture, or the one I had before? -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 03:38, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

It looks the same, just less coding in the edit box.-- SA 03:44, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Which seems to be my original arguement. Alas,... I'm confused. What's your point? -Poodle of DoomM! Fear is only as deep as the mind will allow it be.T 03:48, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Excuse me

You commented on my talk page. I am new here and I think that guy is very creepy. First of all, doesn't he have anything better to do than stalk me? Second of all, if you look at my page its under construction and just because i'm not using an image right now, I could be using it this afternoon or tomorrow or next week if I get a new recruit to my clan. Where do I make a complaint about this creepy guy?--Taco2 14:15, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Borehamwood Suburb Categories

They're pretty much unused. If I take care of all of the red tape, and empty the categories, do I have permission to send it to SD? Most of them only have one or two links anyways; the only link is the suburb page of the same name. --Haliman - Talk 17:11, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

i have a questoin why do people have outside resource points? it wastes ap and you have to find an entry point. some people use churchess like the YRC but the can be ruined so why not use junkyards? Not a TRP or good safehoue--Mathwhiz 05:23, 2 December 2009 (UTC)Mathwhiz--Mathwhiz 05:23, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Lots of reasons. In fact, junkyards make one of the best safehouses for the simple fact that they cannot be ruined. You also have a small chance of finding all kinds of items, so it's a great place for young survivors without Free Running to find things as well. --Maverick Talk - OBR Praise Knowledge! 404 06:39, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
I assume you mean revive points? Churches and Junkyards are used as they don't have doors, so even zombies without memories of life (as in most low level survivors) can still enter. Internal revive points also guarantee you an entry point. If you stand up inside a building, you can just freerun next door, rather than wasting time and AP finding an entry point. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 09:03, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Table linkage?

I'm trying to work some wiki magic on the table here, which is completely stolen from your table at the top of this page. :) Is there any way in which I could link the squares to their respective suburbs without adding in spaces or text? I've tried, but adding in a non-breaking space ruins the look of the map. I think it's possible by adding the link as a characteristic of the square, but I have no idea of what mark-up to use to achieve that. --RahrahCome join the #party!10:14, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Pass. I'd go straight to rooster on this one. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 10:18, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Coincidentally enough, I was trying to solve this just yesterday and came up with a solution that should work fine for your purposes. I've put up an example in my sandbox. Check the code that I used for Dakerstown, since it's what you need. I didn't do it for all 100 suburbs though, since I'm heading to bed in a sec, but you should have enough to get by. Make sure you don't miss the "padding" code near the start of the line. Aichon 11:17, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Li'l help?

I'm trying to figure out how to create new terrains for that ridiculous and awful city I'm working on. I've got the color figured out for the first one (found the web colors page)and figured out that to create it I need to create some sort of template. That's all well and good, but I have no idea how to create a template for a single type of terrain, since I'm pretty much compooter eeliderit. I was wondering if you could set me up with some sort of basic format I could cut and paste, then adjust to suit my preferences (which is how I do everything anyways... I'm a complete code stealer). I'd also like to know how to create borders for the terrain like junkyards, fire stations and police departments have. As a basic example, I'd like to create a beach terrain using the background color FF FF E0 (I think that's the shade of yellow I picked out). It'd look better than just using a cornfield and changing the name. This is what happens when you ask if I need help with formatting. Thanks! Oh, and while I'm here... the guys wanted me to find out if there are any Borehamwood buildings besides factories that survivors get their generators at. Care to clear that one up for us? :)--Necrofeelinya 01:20, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Wow. That was amazingly simple. I had a feeling it would be an embarrassingly easy thing to do. Thanks for the help!  :) But of course, since you answered one question, I now have to pelt you with more. For example, using the 100 x 100 square grid, should I assume a border space on the outside, or put one within those limits, effectively turning it into a 98 x 98 grid the way Borehamwood is, and if it's the latter, might I substitute other impassable terrain such as deep water for border squares or should I just put those within the border? Oh, by the way, I also changed the color of that beach... the first one just didn't look great next to existing water squares. On to new terrains and buildings!--Necrofeelinya 01:56, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Do you think this has any chance whatsoever of working?

User:MHSstaff/Images

I was hoping to use the timestamp variable such that when you visit a page, it would load a different image depending on the hour you visited / loaded the page (I have a gallery of twenty-four images). But it seems to only update if the page is saved again. Am I like completely hosed and at the mercy of the harsh, harsh mistress that is the UD wiki? Any thoughts? -MHSstaff 04:19, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I was wrong. I think it works. Or at least my main user page and the Front's poster of zen update semidaily. It is not perfect since caching prevents it changing on the hour, but it looks like it will update frequently enough to be useful. -MHSstaff 20:31, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

I dont need coding/wiki info yet. But I request you update the map on the wiki. Mockridge Heights is dying. You said you saw my post on MERCY, wasnt sure which one though so ya update needed.
