Basic Info:

  • Malls are an excellent place to find a wide range of items; the only major items that cannot be found here are revivification syringes and fuel cans. As such, Malls are frequently used as safehouses and fortresses by survivors. Zombies often check inside (when they can get in), and organized zombie groups sometimes lay siege to them. They are listed as a Tactical Resource Point.

Giddings Mall is a four-block building located on the north side of the suburb Pitneybank in northeastern Malton. It has played host to several large battles. These include an assault by The Many, ending in a survivor victory, and a month-long siege by The Second Big Bash ending in a zombie victory. The latter saw the introduction of the Beachhead Tactic, an effective means of keeping barricades down using the then recent update which allowed them a chance of blocking construction of the barricades.

External Description: "...a tall yellow-stone building."

Coordinates: [84,41] [85,41] [84,42] [85,42]

Internal Description: The mall is usually kept extremely barricaded, though hospitals, police departments and other nearby public services usually remain accessible to all as a matter of public policy. See the The Giddings Mall Defence Policy for more details.

However zombies often ruin the mall, shambling along the vast food courts they scan the area of their next meal.

Like all malls, Giddings has a wide variety of stores for you to loot depending on your needs. Everything from guns and ammunition to medical supplies can be located within once you get your bearings.

The food court is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Though sometimes you are the meal.

September 28 2008 The mall is completely secure, all corners still EHB, and the NecroNet shows very low zed count, and some of the entry points are back to VSB. Still a great place to stop on the way to Fort Creedy (Although the survivors won't let it for zeds...)! --Dmitribeta 2:45, 28 September 2008 (EST)

September 9 2008 everyone in here is happyish... all corners EHB and NecroNet shows very few zeds anywhere in town we are safe for now. September 05 2008 Everything is fine here, all entrances to the mall has been extremely barricaded. The only way in it is to Free Run it. For anyone who is reading this, the mall is a safehouse. --Soldier 02:41, 6 September 2008 (BST)

July 26 2008 Going through Giddings, I saw about 10 Zombies inside, a well organised group of survivors can easally take the mall back with little difficulty.--Mianthadore 02:49, 26 July 2008 (BST)

July 20 2008 Giddings is swamped in zombies and nearly every building is ransacked. The around one hundred humans that escaped from Giddings lower corners and made it to Morrish (like me) have all now been killed with a break in on the NT. No joke I have not seen a single survivor since then. - Ninja13

July 17 2008 Major break in. Zombies flooded inside with members from groups including RRF, LUE, Sanitarium, and FU. The carnage began when the Northwest corner of Giddings was busted open. Like kids in a free candy store, the brains were devoured and a few unfortunate humans were dragged outside to the delight of feral zombies. Before the night ended RRF strike team Team America shambled in and not only cleared the remaining brains in the Northwest corner of the mall, but managed to taste-test quiet a few brains in the Northeast corner as well. Soon after the Northwest corner was cleared LUE leader Brona scored the ruin. Currently 80+ zombies spread throughout the Northwest and Northeast corners. Things aren't looking good for the humans in Giddings.--Safetyinnumbers 04:54, 18 July 2008 (BST)

July 07 2008 Giddings Mall has over 300 survivors inside and we are now giving out aid to those who need it. Ignore the status symbol at the top of the page. I would change it, but I have no idea how. KingdomsSword 18:52, 07 July 2008 (PST)

June 30th 2008 no movement from inside... Ive recently gotten a message from them but they arent letting survivors in the mall...There snipping innocent people also were hiding in a placce close to and we wait for them to realise that they need uss..RoyMoll14

Minor break in, believed to be lead by surviver Johnny Lockerson. I was in the NE corner and noticed there was no barricading and two zeds inside. I also noticed survivor Johnny Lockerson, who had previously been outside was now inside. I believe he helped two zeds break down the 'cades then opened the door for them. Then as I began recading he started shooting me. I shot back and got him down to 2 HP before running out of AP, I have probably now been killed, by Johnny Lockerson. Regurdless of whether he does kill me or not, I will kill him in revenge for his attack on me. Ryan Shuck

Giddings is gone. All survivors fled or died in the following carnage. The mall is gutted and fallen survivors are choking up the nearest revive points. All is lost, to the spoils go "the big bash 2".

I'd like to add, too, that The Dead were also a major part of the push. Congratulations to all parties involved in any case. Giddings will one day return to the survivors. --Black N Deckard 22:53, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

SE Giddings has been ruined with a massive amount of The Big Bash 2 inside with quite a large slew of other groups mixed in. Many of the survivors who fall rise up and attack other survivors instead of attacking zombies like many of them do. The death of giddings is here. --Generic Zombie A 18:55, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

92 zombies in the SE corner of the mall,we got a generator running in the SW corner, approximately 170 people here. --SiEVE 14:54, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

148 zombies in the SE corner of the mall. No running generator in any of the mall's corners. 186 zombies inside the SW corner. Some of the survivors that are thinking that the mall is lost fled. --Zombargh 22:10, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

The struggle continues in Giddings, the eastern half of the Mall is in survivor hands and the western half in zombie hands. All but a small handful of the survivors in the mall are zerg accounts with, as Lord Rutherford commented below, filthy names. Documented here and here. --David Suzuki 23:49, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

February 8th, 2008

The northern half of the mall is now in zombie hands, while the southern half is in survivor hands. There are currently 20 survivors and 22 zombies inside. -UPDATE- The eastern half of the mall is HB with over a dozen survivors fighting back what little remains of the zombie hoard. Happykook's House (aka the warehouse on the NW corner of the mall) is at EHB as a safehouse and HQ for retaking the mall. We need everyone back to the mall ASAP!!! there are only a dozen zeds left inside. we can have the mall, and all surrounding buildings back up and running within 48 hours if everyone can get back now and help out!!!

Indeed, giddings has been half retaken. Mostly by zergs with names like eatmefirst and others too filthy to mention here. Were this a POV page I'd claim sore losers. Hope you all get banned. Lord Rutherford 01:40, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Giddings Mall's South East corner has been RUINED!, over 300 zombies have broken in and have begun smashing the decorations and furniture. Good Morning Tasty!! Giddings Mall is now completely ruined, and stands as putrifying example of the flaws in modern consumerism. A mighty swelling of close to 500 zambah comrades slouches and shambles there now, celebrating the patient spirit of so-called Barhah, which some claim is the only true and just cause any corpse could fight for. The only looting taking place at the mall seems to be that of Bra!nz from the foolish harman scouts who venture within... -- The Lamb 18:07, 31 January 2008 (GMT)

The entire mall is ruined, and Morrish is being over run as I type, with about 100-200 zombies inside the building already. The siege is over, and the zombies have won. I'd suggest all survivors leave the area of the mall until the zombies move on. --Justin 21:24, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

January 30th, 2008

A rotting wave of 316 zombies buries the last 45 survivors in the SE corner, death, fear and the unblinking malice of the undead wash over the last bright light of the defenders. Each brave defender who chooses to die in the mall tonight delays the horde's victory another few minutes. Most will flee, some will choose to fight to the last breath, the rest are fleeing even now. The riotous groaning and roaring of the undead drowns out the screams of the dying. Tonight Giddings mall has become hell. --Electrasol 03:52, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

January 29th, 2008

Nearly a hundred zombies inside the eastern half of Giddings mall at some points, barricades going up and down, sometimes twice a minute, the weight of the horde is starting to wear down the defenders at this point. Giddings may not last the night. The first signs of survivor confusion and panic have been spotted in the defense of the weakened SE corner of the mall. With a flurry of building materials, rotting flesh and a hail of bullets the fate of the mall, and all those inside, will be decided in that SE corner in the next few hours. --Electrasol 03:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
75 zombies spearheaded by the Big Bash filed into the NW corner today in a strong push to take the mall, 3 hours later a few still remain. The survivors pushed them back for now but how much longer can they maintain?--DonTickles 04:08, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Still watching the 'cades fall...I don't think the survivors have enough sofas and freezers to stop this horde[[1]]...the number of survivors is beginning to wane and the lack of support is being noticed by each side due to the increased zombie attacks and sudden trench coating on the survivors behalf...--Chaplain Drakon Macar 05:23, 29 January 2008 (UTC) Also I vow to find that damn music room because I want more music and less songs on repeat, I will find it if it's the last thing I do!

The SE corner is not done yet, although it's getting there. Zeds outnumber humans 2:1, if nothing is done tonight to whittle down their numbers the battle will finally end. --Don T 16:48 30 January 2008 (EST)

January 28, 2008

Nearly fifty zombies in the Northwest Corner, barricades in the packed NE are starting to flutter up and down under the constant pounding of four hundred zombies outside, as the numbers start to equalize and the horde grows in size and ferocity the tide seems to be turning to favor the undead. How much longer can the survivors maintain their stalemate? Will tonight be the night the bash finally smashes Giddings mall? --Electrasol 01:27, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Sustained break in activity today at Giddings mall, with repeated break-ins in the Eastern half of the mall, hundreds of survivors are still present and fiercely resisting the waves of undead that came pouring through the breaches in the survivors makeshift barricades, sealing the mall and driving the undead back for now. How many more times can the brave survivors turn back the wave of rotting zombies? How many survivors will wake up safe in the mall, and how many dead in the ever growing heap of bodies outside the mall? The next twenty-four hours will tell the tale. Developing... --Electrasol 01:38, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

The Zombie hordes are becoming restless and are now pounding away at the barricades in waves. Cades are falling down at least once every two hours. January 24, 2008

Fierce fighting continues both outside and inside Giddings mall, nearly three hundred of the shambling undead hammer away at the barricades outside the north east corner, while over four hundred survivors keep working on the barricades and bravely defending the mall, the siege looks to be at a stalemate for now, waiting on one side or the other to adapt their tactics to the new situation. --Electrasol 02:42, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

At approximately 9:35 PM EST NW Giddings was broken wide open. Although zeds were being killed and the barricades were slowly creep back up, it was impossible to get them past lightly barricaded and therefor as soon as a zombie would be killed it seemed a new one would walk in in his place. As of when I ran out of AP (Approximately 9:45) there were 29 zeds in NW. It didn't help that not many survivors responded to the many calls for help, perhaps we survivors have gotten lazy and thought the siege over? --Hitokiri 02:50, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

The NW corner is still unpowered. Zed numbers have dropped to 13. The lone zed in the SW has been eliminated. This is still up in the air, but there seem to be a good amount of active survivors reacting.--Jarus 3:05, 24 January 2008 (GMT)

The NW corner is repowered and recaded to EHB as of 22:37 EST --Don T

As of 08:54 EST, Giddings is still in survivor hands. Zombie numbers seem to have increased somewhat, most likely due to the updates. There have been several break-ins in the past hours but they have all been dealt with and the mall remains populated by the living. The new update hasn't seemed to affect the siege that much simply due to the overwhelming numerical advantage of the Giddings defenders. --Jarus

2:15 EST, NW Giddings weathered a break-in of approximately a dozen zeds, but is back up to ESB, with the survivors responding extremely quickly. The mall still stands, but the siege is not going away anytime quickly. --The Senator

January 18, 2008 Major push of the bash against the northen parts of the mall, in a cordinated attack with pkers the break-in in the north increased. As of 09:30PM EST, zombies have broken into the NE and NW portions of the wall. Survivor response was quick, but the break-in is a major security breach.

January 9, 2008 Reports of survivor numbers of about 90 in both northern corners, over 200 in the SW, and 180 in the SE of the mall itself, and 320 in the Morrish Building, with the horde of over 300 standing zombies still concentrating on Morrish and the two auto repairs to the south of the mall -- boxy talki 05:39 13 January 2008 (BST)

History

Battle of Giddings

Main article: Battle of Giddings

For most of January 2008, Giddings was the centre of a pitched, month-long battle between survivors and the Second Big Bash. The siege commenced on or around the 2nd of January, and ended on the 31st January with a zombie victory. The siege saw a game update enabling zombies to hinder the building of barricades once they had entered a building, and the consequent development of the Beachhead Tactic. On 29th January a large horde of zombies broke in to the south east corner of the mall, and held a beachhead until, by the 31st, the mall was cleared of survivors.
