FAQ

What is a Bureaucrat?

A bureaucrat (AKA crat) is a user with the ability to promote and demote users for sysop and bureaucrat positions. The Urban Dead Wiki mantains two active bureaucrats at all times, with elections occurring every three months to promote a sysop into bureaucrat, filling the position of the one who has least recently had an election.

A bureaucrat whose position is being filled can run for reelection, with no limits on how many times a bureaucrat can remain in the position.

Can I become a Bureaucrat?

Only System Operators (aka sysop) can become bureaucrats. Users who are part of the Urban Dead Wiki community for a set period of time and which have made a certain number of edits can be promoted to sysop, as long as they get the rest of the community support. For more information on how to become a sysop, read the sysop promotions page.

System Operators can become bureaucrat if elected by the community. A sysop needs to be active in the previous months of the election in order to run for crat. If he becomes active AFTER the election begun, he will only be able to run for 'crat in the next election.

Can I vote?

Any user can vote. You can only vote in one candidate per election, and any user who vote more than once will have all their votes stricken.

Can I vote for myself?

If you are a sysop and eligible for voting, you can vote for yourself.

Next election

Should be for boxy's slot since he is a mid season replacement for AHLG who was elected BEFORE Cheese. Don't let him slip in as Crat for Life. --Globetrotters Icon.png #99 DCC 13:58, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

I believe the way the policy is worded is that it's the oldest 'crat's bid that gets put up. No reason why Cheese should get an extra long bid because Gnome stepped down.--Karekmaps?! 14:23, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
I think its argued that its the last crat not to have their position voted on, and the election itself was a vote. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 14:40, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
So, if a crat whose position will be up for grabs in the next election is demoted two and half weeks before the end of his term, the crat who gets elected will only keep his position for half a week ? for someone who tries to appear smart, this was a really dumb idea, DCC. The guidelines for bureaucrat election are not hard to understand, and they are pretty clear about whose position will be voted on next time --People's Commissar Hagnat talk mod 15:21, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
'Crats come under default election if they go 12 months without one, so that saves the possibility of 'Crat for life, DCC. Linkthewindow  Talk  20:25, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

August Election

So, it's nearly the 15th Beurocrat election! And on the 15th, how fitting. So, what's the community opinion in the pre-election? Link can't run because he's already a crat, Daranz and Swiers don't look like they'll have enough edits. That leaves everyone else as a potential candidate. Whether or not they run is a different matter. From the last election, looks like Conndraka will be pulling out.

That leaves:

Actually Buzz's vote should be considered valid as there is no proof the account is a sockpuppet.--xoxo 07:49, 29 August 2009 (BST)

True. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 09:38, 29 August 2009 (BST)
Yes, and I thought you couldn't struck puppetry? Or was that only meat puppetry? Exceptions are made in case's where its dead obvious or something?--Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 10:28, 29 August 2009 (BST)
The account was pretty clearly purpose-made as either a meatpuppet or a sockpuppet; its first edit was to vote on Boxy's bid, and the IP traces back to the town Sexy, Jed, Nick and DDR all hail from. You connect the dots. We don't strike meatpuppets because you can't prove that they were actually contacted offsite, but here the proof is conclusive that something went down. We just don't know which variety of puppetry it was. Cyberbob  Talk  10:41, 29 August 2009 (BST)
Thanks for the explanation Bob. Quite a coincidence, all the same town. Do they all know each other ;)?--Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 10:47, 29 August 2009 (BST)

and tbh the bbk doesnt really have vested intrests as a whole these days. Judging from the voting, and only because I dont really give 2 shits about what 2 cool do on a tactical scheme, it looks as if they dont agree on this issue either. Theres quite a few people in this city, and at one point, there was at least 40 UD players from our school alone. Could be anyone, but it wasnt anyone I know, and it wasnt from 2 Cool as Jed is in Sydney, and Nick might as well have just changed his own vote to Boxy rather than making an alt to cancel himself out. Actually changing his vote would have made a 2 vote swing so yeah. I can't answer for DDR though, I have no idea if he knows who it is or not, I'd have to wait for him to comment--CyberRead240 11:51, 29 August 2009 (BST)
Also Jed is from Sydney, forgot to add it. Also what happens with elections now that its a draw?--CyberRead240 11:56, 29 August 2009 (BST)
No idea. Have another round of voting with just the two of them that only goes for a few days maybe? Cyberbob  Talk  12:03, 29 August 2009 (BST)
I know the BBK archives aren't an Encyclopaedia of Wiki Info, but thats what we did a while back when our group hit 40 odd and we had an election. Myself and someone else tied and we had another round of voting, worked out ok.--CyberRead240 12:13, 29 August 2009 (BST)
Oh you know what I mean Nick. Don't be a nitpick. Cyberbob  Talk  12:03, 29 August 2009 (BST)
I used the 2 Cool/BBK thing because it's an easy way to talk about everyone in that area without having to go through and painstakingly name everyone. I'm not saying that you guys all got together and planned it out because as you say - you're obviously not all in agreement. But to try and say that it was some random other guy is kind of silly because of the fact that the vote was the very first edit the account made. Cyberbob  Talk  12:03, 29 August 2009 (BST)
Well, if you read closely, I dont think it is a random guy. I just know its not me, and its not 2 Cool. As I said I cant answer for anyone else because I dont know the details of anyone else, and I also dont want to sit here and point fingers. Its up to you to read between those lines.--CyberRead240 12:10, 29 August 2009 (BST)
Well my best guess outside of those people would be...DDR? DUN DUN DUN. Cyberbob  Talk  12:13, 29 August 2009 (BST)
As I am saying, I dont know if it is him or not, and I dont want to point fingers. But basically I dont check the wiki often enough and didnt even get my own vote in on time, I didnt check it until I got asked if Buzz Killington was me on Facebook. It isnt Jed or Nick for obvious reasons, and in the process of elimination, if it IS a sockpuppet, it would have to be DDR. But I dont know if it is, and if I did know I wouldn't jump on here shouting names because thats just low, wiki and irl are two different places for me. But I dont know if it is Charlie, I hope it isnt, because I cant ever imagine it being him. But then again, sometimes people use those images created to their advantage. I hope it isnt, tbh--CyberRead240 12:20, 29 August 2009 (BST)
I honestly hope I'm wrong about literally the entire thing with the account being dodgy... don't think I am though. Cyberbob  Talk  12:24, 29 August 2009 (BST)
The account is obviously dodgy, but it wasn't me. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 12:34, 29 August 2009 (BST)
And although I have no obligation to save any member of the BBK clique, it's worth noting that the BBK have a score of genuine users (IRL friends) at their disposal, it's beyond logic that they would use an account like this Buzz Killington user to meat/sockpuppet a vote. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 12:39, 29 August 2009 (BST)
Hilariously true.--Nallan (Talk) 12:43, 29 August 2009 (BST)
Ha HA. (Phil Ken Sebben laugh)xoxo 06:13, 30 August 2009 (BST)

And also, in a tie, the current Crat decides who wins. It's in the main page's intro. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 12:44, 29 August 2009 (BST)

20th sounds good to me -- boxy talkteh rulz 10:48 3 December 2009 (BST)
20th seems fair, but I'd suggest the 21st. It's a monday so it feels right, plus it's more of an evenly-spaced period either side of Christmas day so anyone busy on one side of it has time the other side. For hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee 22:27, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
20th is a bit pointless really, given that it's the same Monday to Friday week as Christmas, anyone who interwebs from school/uni/college is likely to be away and therefore can't vote. If you're going to move it, then Friday the 18th would include such backwards people without home iwebs (though it'd obviously have to kick off from start of school/uni/college time in the Antipodes to allow everyone a chance. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Boxy's so clever

I just realised, having a name that comes first alphabetically is an amazing tactical ploy. Aaron A. Aardvark is a sure fire winner for the next crat elections. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 11:12, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

That'd be hilarious. Oh. Except in the last 2 years, 10 or so elections it's happened basically twice, both of which were just Boxy anyway. :/ -- 11:25, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
