Questions from prospective students
If I were to stop by sometime, what sort of education opportunities would I be able to take advantage of? What do you recommend? -- CITIZEN VI 15:48, 4 October 2008 (BST)
- It depends entirely upon who the current guest speakers are. Our last two sets of speakers were entire groups, both comedy-oriented. I'm hoping to get some more serious speakers soon, but I wasn't sure until quite recently how long our current speakers were going to stay. Our speakers have given us anything from weeks of advance notice to seconds. Right now I'm going to bug a few people who said they'd speak but wouldn't pin down a time, and see who all I can line up. I'm reluctant to name names in public, as occasionally our speakers are high profile targets.
- As far as what you can learn, Sir VI, I don't know what your areas of expertise are, other than the obvious military ones. Our standard faculty and staff lectures are usually aimed at the newer students, although we try to mix it up with topics for mid and higher level people. If you run only the one alt, then any lectures aimed at non-military professions might be educational for anyone new you might want to try. Our more specialized lectures, while wonderful, tend to be with specialized guest lecturers. Our textbooks page (link at the top of this one) has a selection of them for people's reading pleasure, although it is incomplete. We can give a lecture on demand on most topics, and, if it isn't one our faculty or staff are comfortable with, we will find someone who is and invite them. Is there a particular topic of interest to you? Or would you prefer to be the lecturer? --Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 00:15, 6 October 2008 (BST)

DT
It has been a while since I last gave an in-game lecture, the last being a rather less practically-applied speech at Quartly Library, but having read your textbook, and the lectures given by WV and others, I have been inspired to prepare another. I do hope nobody has touched upon the extremely important topics of 'Organization, Communication, and Information' yet. I've written rather extensively on those subjects...
Unfortunately, I am rather occupied with the small matter of war at the moment, but I should hopefully be able to arrive and deliver a long lecture a week or two before the end of October, if that's alright with you. I hope the College is doing well, not suffering from any unwanted visitors.
Thank you and - like I always do before bed with a small glass of apple schnapps and some hot cheese - Praise Knowledge! --DTPK 01:25, 20 September 2008 (BST)
- Sir Knight, you are always welcome. We would be honored to host you, and to hear anything you care to contribute. I don't believe we've had a lecture on those topics before, and I agree that they are not only important, but necessary for effectiveness.
- We still have a several more lectures to get up on the wiki, but having gone without a proper librarian for some months, our shelves are still in a bit of disarray in the back room. Even if we'd had a lecture on those topics before, a new outlook is always welcome, and as students graduate and move on and new ones arrive, repeating information is not only acceptable, but on some topics, necessary. But again, I think those topics would be new.
- We are doing quite well, and at this time at least have a smaller number of griefers than usual, and record-high attendance. We look forward to your visit! --Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 06:59, 21 September 2008 (BST)
Ottari
Not sure I have the time for enrollment, but if you're looking for a guest lecturer on diplomacy in Malton, revivification technique and practice, or siege survival. I could probably contribute a bit. My resume includes heading up the Pescodside Defense Alliance, serving as the Dulston Alliance's diplomat, and extensive work with Project Necrowatch.
The MCM is an interesting concept, and even though I'm not able to take much time off from my groups to work, I'll try and make the journey down. Would that be agreeable to you? Who knows, I may even stay long enough to get the coveted Zh.D. --Ottari DA PDA NW 18:39, 5 May 2008 (BST)
- We would love to have you! Honored, in fact! Let us know what works with your schedule. I'm sure we can arrange a Zh.D. You have a cool user page, BTW.
- We are working up a subpage that will list our policies and teaching style. Basically what you need to know is that 1) MCM is a neutral zone. We request not only no PKing, but no bounty collecting on campus. 2) Again on the neutral zone, we heal everyone who crawls over our cades. 3) We teach combat revives. The AP math works in our favor, blah-dee-blah, etc.
- You don't have to agree with what we teach, but we do request that if you have a differing opinion you are respectful. Pretty simple and straightforward.
- One question, if you don't mind... how did you hear about us? Just curious.--Violet Begonia Dean MCM 02:41, 6 May 2008 (BST)
- Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I've been somewhat busy with a little situation up in Gibsonton. Seems Red Rum, DORIS, and the like aren't too keen on our allies the Imperium. It's devolving into a bit of a PKer/Bounty Hunter war, and I could use a couple days break from waking up dead. ;-) Don't worry about me collecting any bounties or being killed on campus though, as I try to keep a low profile. As far as the other two rules, fine by me. I personally don't practice combat revives, but am fine with other groups doing so. If you're wondering how I found about about MCM, it was through the wiki recent changes page as a matter of fact. Thanks for the compliment on my user page, and if I may repay it, MCM has a quite impressive group page. How does Wednesday of next week sound? I fear Sunday is probably the earliest I'll be able to depart from the Gibsonton War Zone. Cheers! Ottari DA PDA NW Read the Dispatch!
- I apologize for the delayed response, but I've been out of town IRL. Wednesday is fine! We'll look forward to seeing you there! (Oops - delayed signing! It's me!)--Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 00:56, 22 May 2008 (BST)
I think that I will soon return to the MCM campus to issue my dissertation, and finally obtain that Zh.D. Things have been a little crazy in Northeast Malton, and some time out in Greentown would be just the thing to clear my head. Think there might be a slot in your speaking lineup for my dissertation? --Ottari DA PDA NW Read the Dispatch! 04:51, 29 August 2008 (BST)
- We can certainly make room for you. Right now it is quite busy in MCM, with 100-ish people and Upper Left Corner is goofing off, erm, I mean lecturing. I know there is some controversy over the DA's blacklist, et al, and I would rather not be seen as taking a stand on that issue if you don't mind skirting it. We have some very tenuous agreements with people who carry lots of guns and I'd rather not offend them if possible. Thanks! --Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 05:51, 29 August 2008 (BST)
- No worries here... I'm one of those type who subscribe to a fusion of both the Rogues Gallery and DA Black List model of PKer tracking, and have tryed to stay out of that particular fight anyway. I'll probably discuss something along the lines of survivor politics and cooperation in post-apocalypse Malton. --Ottari DA PDA NW Read the Dispatch! 17:24, 29 August 2008 (BST)
- That'll be interesting! Coming from a beerhah perspective myself, I think a DA look at Malton will be good for people to hear. We'll look forward to seeing you! --Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 20:29, 29 August 2008 (BST)
Tikhon Medical
Morguasm asked me to contact Violet about givin' a speech. Elbert Gray, from Tikhon Medical. I'm up north at the moment, but I can swing into Greentown sometime next week. Just let me know. - Uncle Elbert 18:29, 11 June 2008 (BST)
- We would dearly love to have Tikhon come and give a speech/goof off with us. Right now the political situation is a bit complicated, so we may need to delay. Hopefully things will have cooled off by next week. I'll know more in a few days. Thank you so much! We look forward to seeing you! --Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 19:41, 11 June 2008 (BST)
- Political complications, huh? Remember: problems can be solved diplomatically, but violence is quicker. - Uncle Elbert 20:10, 11 June 2008 (BST)

This is Desmond Styles of the Spartans. In my vicious retribution against juanfu for his killing me a couple days ago, I gave him the traditional Spartan response... a quick death. Unfortunately, I had completely forgotten about the treaty cemented between our two groups by Magnar, a fellow Spartan. I realize that the MCM has a policy of no PKing/BHing in St. Georges, and I would like to extend my sincerest apologies. I would also like to offer my services to make up for this act of rudeness, whether it be helping revive, heal, or simply do some survivor work with you guys. Just contact me here, on my profile page, or in-game if you have a response. Thank you. --Russell Oakley 06:18, 29 August 2008 (BST)
- Reparations are not necessary, good sir. However, as peacemakers most of us lack experience in combat and warfare, and our students do need information on such subjects. As such, we are always in need of lecturers on the various arts of war, and if you would care to come speak on any topic of your choice - such as firearms and shooting skills, how much ammo or AP it takes to vanquish your chosen enemy, hunting or tracking, evading pursuit, or any of the military skills which you possess in such abundance - I know our students would certainly benefit. Please regard this as a request from a friend, not a demand for an apology. You are welcome in MCM. --Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 07:29, 29 August 2008 (BST)
I would consider it an honor to lecture at an institute of learning. I'm no Philosophe Knight, but I'll give as informative a speech as I can. Expect me in the next few days, should certain elements (bounty hunters) not get involved. --Russell Oakley 20:18, 29 August 2008 (BST)
- If the unfortunate does happen, Nicols Avenue is one step from our door and has very speedy revives. You can post a note here and I'll either rez you myself or announce it in-game if I don't have the AP, (although you may be revived before I can announce it.) We'll look forward to your arrival! --Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 20:36, 29 August 2008 (BST)
Possible Combat Revive
The Dark Shadow, leader of the recently formed Fluctuators. It seems that one of your students and I may have a problem. You see, I was offline at the time, but Penny Arkheart was passing through, and, without doing a DNA scan or anything of the sort, she revivified me. I was not at a revive point and did not do anything to suggest I wanted a revive. She has thus, made one of my group's "lists". So, if a punishment can be applied by your group, I will not be hunting her down over the next week to the next month. --The Dark Shadow 10:39, 12 May 2009 (BST)
- I'll talk with Penny, but we do teach combat revives, as long as they're smart combat revives. We do not teach random revives. If she randomly revived you on the street, then either she was misinformed about the location of the revive point and should be reminded to scan first, or she needs instruction on why to not randomly revive in the street. If you were inside a building, then she may have simply been doing a proper strategic combat revive, especially if you were only zombie holding the building, and she could then repair and cade the building, which she could NOT have done if she'd spent all her AP shooting you.
- The rationale for smart, tactical combat revives: Yes, you may be type who gets in a huff and PKs later, but AP-for-AP, a zombie is far more dangerous than a PKer, and you'll waste a ton of AP searching for guns and ammo while she just stands and gets a revive, which for MCM is usually less than an hour later. She'll lose a handful of AP for each PKing while you'll lose days of AP searching and shooting. If you say, "she has no right to force me to be a survivor if I want to be a zombie," well, then why do zombies have the right to force survivors to be zombies? I'm a big fan of window jumping with my zombie, if you haven't guessed. It's much more AP efficient, you get to spend more time as a zombie, and you don't waste energy on anger.
- If you don't like being combat revived, I strongly suggest you buy rot as I have with my dedicated zombie alt. It really cut down on the combat revives. Plus, Flesh Rot truly rocks! Barhah!
- We won't punish Penny because we're a school, and students are people who admit they still have more to learn. She's a student. If she screwed up, we gently correct her. If she did a smart combat revive, then we praise her and race one another to revive her when she gets PKed.
- Finally, I'm the one who makes the policy decisions. If you believe our policy on combat revives means you should punish someone, then I'm really the person with whom you should be angry, not Penny. Here's my profile. You can PK me without fear; I don't retaliate, although I do report PKing. However, if instead you'd like to visit us and have some cookies and chatter and have fun, we're a very friendly group and we'd love to talk. We also welcome non-violent zombie visitors, and have several zombie fans who zanz anh zh!ng (dance and sing) for us on occasion. The RRF's Team America even visited and rattled Christmas carols for us in December!
- Best of luck, and may you find many tasty bra!nz to nahm!--Violet Begonia Dean MCM MOB 02:11, 13 May 2009 (BST)
- We choose different lines in my group, we randomly switch back and forth from being human and zombie, but your student reviving me was inconvenient, as I lost a great amount of AP. But, I will remove your student from the list. To the matter of it being a "combat revive" I was not threatening your student, and I was standing on the street. So, as long as she learns from her mistake, we'll not have anything else between us. Perhaps one day, we may wish to ally with your College, to better help our gratuitous switching from zombies to survivors. --The Dark Shadow 10:58, 13 May 2009 (BST)
