20080805 Repairing Ruined Buildings Modification

Suggestion description
Survivors, brahhzaz, we all know how powerful of an obstacle ruined buildings can be to a survivor. It's time to ease the pressure a little bit, and give the harmanz a little bit less worries. I suggest capping AP usage on a building, not by percentages, but at 35 AP, or 25 AP if it is dark. There would be no partial repairs as this would seriously nerf zombies and pretty much make every ruined building a battle zone to re-ruin and re-unruin. That's just useless, and a waste of time. I don't know how long it takes buildings it to decay, but this is good enough for now as I believe spending 47 AP on a single building is utterly ridiculous. The current ruin system makes it very hard for survivors to repair heavily ruined areas. Yes, brahhzaz, I know the survivors need to wisen up and get more organized. But this is a serious obstacle to survivors. The current system makes it extremely difficult for small groups of survivors to have any effect, and the entire survivor faction is dependent on small groups and bands of players, who are probably up to 75% of all survivor players. So, this suggestion effectively cripples the efficiency of 75% of survivors. Need any more be said?

Keep Votes

  1. Keep/Change - perhaps not your exact numbers, but the 50+ AP to fix is simply unfair on any single survivor player, and that needs to be addressed, because the game should not be broken for any single player, survivor or zombie. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 17:49, 6 August 2008 (BST)
  2. Keep Author keep. Thanks, Funt, that's where I agree with ya. All these guys never been to my neck of the woods where it's hell to patch shit up. Did I mention what a nice flag that is in your sig...Yep, I like it a lot. Hey, to the first guy who voted kill, do you know how those small bands of survivors operate? 1 building a day to repair is torture, and getting more done is frequently impossible. The 47 AP decay penalty doesn't even leave room to barricade, get to a safehouse over 3 AP away, or watch cade levels in case of a break-in. Ioncannon11 20:17, 7 August 2008 (BST)
  3. Keep - There shouldn't even be an OPTION to spend over 30 AP. EVER. Takes the fun away from the game... --BoboTalkClown 00:24, 11 August 2008 (BST)
  4. Keep - why not--Airborne88Zzz1.JPGT|Z.Quiz|PSS 20:10, 14 August 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Not needed. All it takes is one of those "small bands" of survivors to coordinate and commit to repairing decayed buildings in their area of choice. Decay penalties are reset to ZERO after the building is repaired... So "repair strafing" runs -- even suicide repair runs -- are CURRENTLY an effective tactic. If survivors went in and cleared and repaired buildings more than once every month or three, then Decay wouldn't even be an issue. And if survivors had been more proactive in the first place, it'd had never have got this bad... All these suggestions to nerf decay are just survivors asking the game engine to make up for their own lack of smart play and pro-activity. Sorry, but that's a no-go. All round. --WanYao 12:31, 5 August 2008 (BST)
Supplementary comments, addressed to Zombie Lord's vote, below: Creating a construction zerg is a totally absurd "solution" and pretty much a waste of time. You have to level the thing, and get it a toolbox, and you still need to clear buildings, etc. etc., -- which one zerg can't do alone. Same for revivers... Your conspiracy theories just don't stand up any realistic analysis, they're absurd and wouldn't work. No, the revives were being done by dedicated revive groups like COMBAT REVIVE, and The Big Prick -- and the many individuals who dedicated themselves to suicide revive tactics, etc.
As for the zerging allegations... got any evidence that this any more widespread than the usual zerging that all sides of the game engage in? Or is this another paranoiac symptom of yours? Probably... But.. there was PLENTY of evidence of Goons' (oh and then there's your budddies, Extinction....) "free-thinking" attitude towards multi-abuse and the use of cheatfucker auto-scout tools... Yus yus yus...
But anyhooo... Not only is your rabid frothing at the mouth, and the attempts to insult me, making you look like an idiot -- your obvious ignorance of UD is doing a good job, too. I mean, I really didn't need to write this "re:", it was already clear enough... But it was fun... :P Have a nice day! And... get your meds dosage checked, looks like something's amiss! --WanYao 19:15, 5 August 2008 (BST)
  2. Kill The decay is so slow that either it's the survivors' fault for not fixing it earlier, or the zombies deserve it because they held a building that long. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 12:36, 5 August 2008 (BST)
  3. Kill - I can think of plenty of ways to use the current state with coordination to decent effect, even with the rare 50+AP repair(2+ months with no attempts). Even with zombies inside, actually it's even better with them inside because it means I'm getting more AP reward used in less time. Barricades make this suggestion false, and the fact that they haven't been in the area of the city for 2 or more months says something about it's level of importance to them.--Karekmaps?! 13:02, 5 August 2008 (BST)
  4. Kill - as the Karek meister DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 13:42, 5 August 2008 (BST)

  7. Kill - As Karek, but with more swearing and personal insults.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  18:15, 5 August 2008 (BST)
  8. Kill - I don't think 47 AP to repair is ridiculous, its really too easy. Survivors have it too good already on Ruin. We all saw how fast Survivors fell into Zerg cheating during The Dead's attempt to make this a real game again. Everyone and their dog had a Revive Zerg. What retards like Wan Yao don't see is that once Survivors feel threatened enough, they will just go into Zerg mode again, make hundreds of Zergs with Construction and a Toolbox and then fix any building they want with one click, even if the building had 500 AP worth of Repairs needed. With a 1 AP per system, at least they would be forced to use multiple Zergs to do this. The Ruin rules are useless now if they go on another Zerg Party, no matter how long the Ruin goes un-repaired. Decay is so Zerg-broken its not even funny. Your idea is cool, but I don't think goes far enough. Even if zombies held a Decay for 5 years, all it would take is one click to fix it with a properly placed Zerg that could just time out after its job was done. Then they wouldn't care how negative its AP was. 1 AP FOR 1 AP! With failure chances!--Zombie Lord 18:37, 5 August 2008 (BST)
Seeing as how I was specifically named above, I reserve the right to re: this... Now, Zombie Lord... Creating a construction zerg is a totally absurd "solution" and pretty much a waste of time. You have to level the thing, and get it a toolbox, and you know you still need to clear buildings, etc. etc., which one zerg can't do alone. Same for revive skills... As for the zerging allegations... got any evidence? 11. Change - Maybe a flat 35 AP with all buildings. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:30, 6 August 2008 (BST)
  12. Kill - As Karek and Wan. Herd mentality FTW! (And cut out the ruin suggestions already.) --JaredTalk Aces C-Kids 02:05, 6 August 2008 (BST)

Advice to Suggesters

  1. Adding options to your suggestion is not good practice. Others will not vote on the options, only the main body; please don't ask them to do so.
  2. Once you have posted your suggestion, it is considered complete. Altering the suggestion mechanics after voting has begun nullifies existing votes, and is considered an abuse of the suggestions system. Doing so will result in your suggestion being removed from the voting system to removed suggestions, where you can work out the details and resubmit later if you desire. It is preferred that you remove your own suggestion and resubmit a new version with changes, if changes are needed.
  3. "Notes" added for clarification purposes, and correcting spelling/typos are permitted. When considering adding a clarification note, it is often better for all parties involved, for the author to remove the suggestion and resubmit it with the clarification included for the voters who have already placed their votes.

Advice to Voters

  1. You are voting on Suggestions, not Users. The text of your vote should not personally attack or denigrate the user who has submitted it... no matter how ridiculous the idea. Flaming and/or Trolling will not be tolerated.
  2. Before voting please read the Suggestions Dos and Do Nots and Frequently Suggested Ideas Page to read about concepts that have been generally considered unworkable in the past. You do not need to follow the guidelines on these pages but they are worth consideration before casting a vote.
  3. One vote per user. No exceptions. You cannot use multiple wiki accounts to vote on a suggestion.
  4. To Vote, use the [edit] button at the top of the voting section, then enter your vote in the the proper format to the end of the relevant section (keep/kill/spam).
  5. It is strongly recommended that voters (especially in the kill/spam sections) justify their vote to help others understand the reason they disagree. Feedback helps new suggesters get a feel for what the community does and does not want included in Urban Dead, and a deeper understanding of the balance needed for a workable suggestion.
  6. Votes must include a signature in order to be considered valid votes. To sign a vote, use --~~~~. Please remember to sign your votes! Unsigned votes will be deleted after 30 minutes or when found.
  7. Each Suggestion will be open to voting for two (2) weeks, measured from the suggestion's Timestamp, unless it is a Dupe or Spam. If, at the end of that time, there are two thirds (2/3) more Keep votes than Kill votes, the Suggestion will be moved to the Peer Reviewed Suggestions page. Otherwise, the Suggestion will be moved to the Peer Rejected Suggestions page.

Spam votes are not a "strong kill", they are simply here to prevent the utterly ridiculous from clogging up the system. If you do not like the idea, and it's not some crazy uber power or something else ridiculous, VOTE KILL, NOT SPAM. Spam votes will be counted as Kill when votes are tallied.
  • Dupe, for Suggestions that are exact or very close duplicates of previous suggestions. For a Dupe vote to be valid, a link must be provided to the original suggestion.

Invalid Votes
  • Server Load and Programming Complexity are NOT very good Kill reasons. You are voting on the merit of the suggestion and whether or not you think it belongs in the game. Server load/complexity issues are up to Kevan to decide.
  • X should be implemented first is not a valid reason for a vote. You are voting on the merit of THIS suggestion, not how it compares to others.
  • Votes that do not have reasoning behind them are invalid. You MUST justify your vote.
Comments
  • Re may be used to comment on a vote. Only the original author and the person being REd can comment. Comments are restricted to a single comment per vote, and it is expected that Re comments be as short as possible. Reing every kill vote is considered abuse of the Re comment. A Re does not count as a vote, and any subsequent discussion not part of the Re comment should be held on the discussion page if there is any extended commenting.
  • Note is used by System Operators to invalidate trolling-based votes. Only Sysops may remove troll-based votes and they do so with a strikeout <s></s> in order to preserve the trolling removal for posterity. The voter may contest the strikeout with the Sysop that struck their vote out on the discussion page. Only a System Operator may remove a strikeout.
