Lemonade

thanks for taking the time to warn him, Bob. The kid's been unsuccessfully trying to bother us on our forums for awhile now, and frankly I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of a vandal report. I've reverted all of his edits, and made the page he created a little less pointless. --Aiden H 4H 09:13, 8 September 2006 (BST)

No problem. I'm glad I could help. :) If he keeps it up, just report him again, and he'll find himself banned soon enough (the order is two warnings, then a 24 hour ban, 48 hours, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, then permanent). –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 17:00, 8 September 2006 (BST)

MrAushvitz returned a while ago, maybe a month, sadly. Zod has always been a dick. We figured out God=Amazing a couple of weeks ago, and quickly banned him, and his second alt too. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 04:49, 5 September 2006 (BST)

MrA

I'm not going to argue with you on your interpretation of the suggestion rules... but I would like to ask that you show MrA a little mercy in this case. As far as I can tell he thought that he was following the rules when he did his revisions, and if he was wrong there seems to be quite a few people who are equally confused. I can't help but feel that banning him for an entire month over something that mounts to an honest mistake regarding what is still a relatively new policy is a bit harsh, especially as Gage has felt it nessesary to put up a revision on the suggestions talk page to help clarify the point.

I understand that you have to enforce the rules, but as you said you also have to interpet them. Perhaps just a warning might suffient in this case, especially as MrA has been trying to behave himself recently. The Mad Axeman 11:53, 19 September 2006 (BST)

I understand your concern, and if I could, I would have given MrAushvitz a less harsh punishment. However, the guidelines are quite clear as to the order of punishments, and since he has already received two warnings, a 24 hour ban, a 48 hour ban, and a 1 week ban, my only choice was to give him a 1 month ban. I'd prefer it if we had more room to determine what punishments were appropriate, but under the current guidelines, that's all I was allowed to do. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 15:02, 19 September 2006 (BST)

Mwha ha ha

Ha, I have too much time on my hands. I have spotted a potential source of vandalism which could be very devastating for the wiki. Just imagine people placing

{{SUBST:User:Jedaz/Sandbox/Evil Text}}

into their signiture, especialy if it's a template signiture because they could sign alot of pages and then change it. If you don't get what this would eventualy do, just have a bit of a think about it. A page which wouldn't be able to be opened is called to hundreds of pages on the wiki, and the person can easily hide behind the rules saying that since it's their user page name space that they can have whatever they want. And, in short nothing could be done because people would be afraid of having a vandalism case brought against them. So maybe we should make a policy against the template signatures, what do you reckon? - Jedaz - 04:57/16/11/2024 08:26, 15 September 2006 (BST)

Think about it. Just change every user sig to {{Main Page}}{{Main Page}}{{Main Page}}{{Main Page}} . The griefing potential is out there. Allowing templatedish signatures or not.--Thari TжFedCom is BFI! 08:41, 15 September 2006 (BST)
Yes, but someone putting {{Main Page}}{{Main Page}}{{Main Page}}{{Main Page}} on every page will be noticed quickly by people, but someone whos going to sign a whole heap of pages and then change their template signiture isn't going to noticed instantly, that is if at all. And all it takes is just one edit to potentially crash hundreds of pages. - Jedaz - 04:57/16/11/2024 08:47, 15 September 2006 (BST)
Yes, I see the obvious abuse potential, but what about those of us who use template signatures right now? I don't want to give that up. Perhaps a policy against destructive signatures? Maybe we could roll a ban on distracting images into that as well. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 16:52, 15 September 2006 (BST)
And other malicious links, a la Gage's recent signout one. Cyberbob  Talk  16:54, 15 September 2006 (BST)
And maybe signatures that break page layouts? (I'm thinking of Canuhearmenow's image one here.) –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 16:57, 15 September 2006 (BST)

Something I shall tell you

Well because of this policy, I've put my foot in the shit because of a few comments I've made that I don't really wish to follow through with. I've decided one of two things, I can either get the "you're all clear" from you and Xoid and I'll be fine and not do anything, or I can just commit this act of "vandalism" that I said thus the intent is gone because it's already done. I'm hoping I can get the "you're all clear" otherwise I'll have to vandalise so I don't get kicked off the wiki. Well whats your thought on this? Oh and Cyberbob, don't comment on this, your comments arn't needed and it doesn't involve you. - Jedaz - 04:57/16/11/2024 14:15, 18 September 2006 (BST)

I thought it was OK to butt in on other people's conversations! Pardon me for thinking that applied to everyone. Cyberbob  Talk  18:12, 18 September 2006 (BST)
No, I just knew that you would want to comment and that your comments wouldn't be very constructive, hence is why I told you not to get involved. - Jedaz - 04:57/16/11/2024 01:23, 19 September 2006 (BST)
Yeah, it would be nice if I could trust you, but you haven't given me any compelling reason to. It's up to you to reverse that if you want to be cleared, otherwise it will be up to Xoid and me. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 23:09, 18 September 2006 (BST)
Ok then, I can see why there isn't any reason to trust me. So how do you mean "to reverse that"? I'm not quite sure I follow, are you talking about reversing my statements or to commit the vandalism and then reverse it? - Jedaz - 04:57/16/11/2024 01:23, 19 September 2006 (BST)
Ah, I see how you're confused. Let me clarify for you. There is ample evidence of you saying, even in extremely close proximity to your comments claiming that you are reformed, that you plan on vandalizing the wiki, that you have already started vandalizing the wiki, and that there is nothing that we can do to stop you. If you want me to believe that you were just having a bad day, you'll need to figure out some way to convince me of that. Otherwise, rest assured that I can stop you, and I will not hesitate to — preemptively if I can, or after the fact with even harsher consequences if you begin before that happens. Let's not go there, shall we? But it's up to you to prove to me that I shouldn't. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 01:43, 19 September 2006 (BST)
Well I can't think of anything that would be convincing. Maybe I should just get you to demote me right here and now. That way I can still be on the wiki. Hmm.... either way I see it I'm going to loose my moderator abilitys. I'll have a bit of a think about this. So just a question out of curiosity, what brought up the policy? I couldn't help notice that it was created soon after I made those comments. Is it a coincidence or not? - Jedaz - 04:57/16/11/2024 01:59, 19 September 2006 (BST)
Whether or not you will lose your Moderator status remains to be seen, but I find it interesting that you don't seem inclined to make any case for yourself, or even claim that you were being impersonated on the Scroll Wars wiki. The policy was created to address situations like the one we're in currently now. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 02:12, 19 September 2006 (BST)
Well why lie? My case? How am I suppose to make one? I say I had a bad day and no one will belive me, theres nothing I can do about it really. Anyway if I was going to deny that I was the user on scroll wars then I wouldn't have brought this up. Anyway why were you checking out what my IP's were with check user? Did you confirm that I wasn't a vandal as you should have already known? - Jedaz - 04:57/16/11/2024 02:18, 19 September 2006 (BST)
You see, the thing is that your "bad day" is more than a day long, and your comments indicated premeditated intentions of vandalism, not to mention corroborating with a repeat wiki vandal. How do you explain that? I was checking to see if you had any other accounts. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 02:43, 19 September 2006 (BST)
*sigh*, ok, you win. I give up. Just give me a second and I'll make my resignation as moderator offical ok? - Jedaz - 04:57/16/11/2024 05:17, 19 September 2006 (BST)

Mod?

Should I run for Moderation? I would like a good Bureaucratic answer please.--Canuhearmenow Hunt! 23:17, 18 September 2006 (BST)

If you ran for Moderator, I doubt you would succeed, simply because you still seem unsure of how to do many things on the wiki, and I haven't seen you contribute significantly to any project, or participate on any of the Moderation pages. With some work, I think you could reverse that, but you'd have to demonstrate it for a while (at least a month). However, there could be something that you would find beneficial in running, in that you'd hear from people exactly what they think is important in a Moderator, and you could find out that I'm unique in my position, although I doubt it. It's nothing personal, it's just that I haven't seen much from you. :) Let me know if you have further questions, or advice on how to go about making yourself more Moderator-ready. –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 23:23, 18 September 2006 (BST)

Urbandead, PTT, and Chinese

i was reading the PTT page... and they are resuming most guides inside their own group page. While i praise the effort of bringing the game closer to their friends, i think this just isnt right. So i was speaking with my little imaginary friend here (say hi to him Bernard... yesss, goood fella) and i had an strange idea to help them. What ya think of creating a namespace for them ? like 'ch:'... whre they could translate all other pages that are not inside a namespace. I think that would work a lot better than just have them all add important information (for them) in just one page. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 05:41, 19 September 2006 (BST)

Seems like a decent idea, but I'm wondering how long it'll be before every foreigner and his dog wants a namespace for his own language. For the moment, I think we'll need to limit this simply because there aren't any Chinese moderators. If we can't read what they're writing, what happens when an inevitable edit war comes up? It'll happen, sooner or later it'll happen. Maybe wait until there is a moderator who can speak Chinese fluently and is active before making this a major effort? –Xoid STFU! 03:05, 20 September 2006 (BST)
