*Are separate multiple characters penalised?
I have created multiple characters (3 in all) which all work separately and therefore, should not be penalised. However, I have named them "voota", "voota's pharmacist" and "voota's militia" and lately I have been getting terrible search percentages. If there's a penalisation, is it automatically lifted after sometime? ::It is commonly believed that if both characters attack the same target (who may have moved), hit percentage becomes 0%. This type of penalty disappears when attacking valid targets (i.e., not cooperating with your alt). As far as anyone knows, Kevan doesn't blacklist (egregious violators get banned instead). Hmm. I believe what you're saying, Zarathustra, about them disappearing, might not be limited to "working together," for instance, I created a Necrotech character recently, and it vanished overnight. Its name wasn't similar to my other two (GWARRRRR and Monset) and they're all on opposite ends of the map. Maybe there's something about having no more than two or three characters at a time.
New Questions
- It can't be the case that they deleted because you already have 2 chars. I routinely operate 2-5 characters and none have been deleted thus far. But they are all in separate suburbs and I access from 3 different computers in any given day. But it should not be because you already have 2 chars.
www.ellipsisrealtyltd.ca graffiti spam
Some person is spoiling my suspension of disbelief by spamming "www.ellipsisrealtyltd.ca for Toronto rental needs!" graffiti all over Peddelsden Village.  This is clearly commercially motivated, too - Is it Kevan's will that the graffiti mechanic be abused thus?  I didn't know where else to ask this in the wiki. Sassie (talk) 08:32, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
:Stuff like this unfortunately comes up on occasion. You'll see URLs to online games that compete with UD even. There's not much Kevan can do about it, unfortunately. Most of the time, I'll just tag over them if they bother me, which seems to be what most other people do as well. 15:40, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
::I suppose I have three options, spray over them (I've done a few, but it's not my Main Mission, or write to ellipsis realty and ask them nicely to cease and desist, or spray over them with increasingly offensive counter-messages eg. "ellipsis realty are slum landlord ripoffs, avoid!" Sassie (talk) 18:55, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
:::I'd do the first, maybe the second. If you do the third, it just encourages them to paint back over them in an effort to "correct" the message you're sending. My two cents, for whatever they're worth. :-\ 19:00, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
:::: Heh...how about "ellipsis realty are such cheapskates they're stealing advert space on UD". Probably wouldn't fit. Sassie (talk) 22:08, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
:I just wonder who finds it cost-effective to advertise something unrelated in such a low-population game. 19:15, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
::I can't imagine them getting even a single lead from it. I can very easily imagine that any UD player looking through the To Let adverts in Toronto would think "those jerks that defrauded Kevan and slightly spoiled my game ... screw them!". Sassie (talk) 22:07, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
:::Even wiki spam is more "effective" in that google trawls the pages and boosts search rankings, but that isn't the case for anything in-game. 22:17, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
::That's a great point. That's gotta be the most inefficient use of advertising funds you could imagine. 22:23, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

- Is there a way to have characters deleted? I have an old alt and my search percentages seem to be terrible (note: this alt is inactive). Is this just bad luck or is it effecting my searches? -- Norminator 2
One Maur Thing
: Bad luck. Inactive characters do nothing. Also, the anti-zerging measures only kick in when the characters are in the same square. - CthulhuFhtagn 21:15, 31 Jan 2006 (GMT)
Now that the nice zombies have become very organised and pretty much screwed over most of Malton, what are the perks of being a survivor? It is far easier to be a zombie... AP, easier to revive, the list goes on. The question is, what is the point of being a survivor if zombies are everywhere? only 2 suburbs are 'safe' now, i remember when it use to be like a third of the map. So after waiting for so long, you stand up do some stuff, get into a caded building, log back in after a few hours, you're dead yet again. It's not very AP effective to kill a zombie, or get revived, or stand up, or get back to safety. So... either people will get frustrated and quit for good, or they will just not bother to get a revive and stay as a zombie, shifting the numbers and messing the game up. What's the plan people?
LoneGuardian09 20:15 8th June 2011 (GMT)
:Well the first point to make is that much more of the map is inhabitable than you might think: Yellow just means that you might actually encounter zombies in the suburb. Secondly, join a decently coordinated group: That way you can get revives easier (It only takes one group member a single AP cycle to bring 2-3 others back to life; and it grows exponentially from there. Thirdly, it's a zombie apocolypse: There should be at least some level of danger. Zombies win because survivors aren't coordinated and insist on congregating in brightly lit shopping malls (which is essentially like putting a massive neon "dinner is inside" sign on the roof). Survivors don't win direct sieges because zombies can't be permanently killed; they win by effective use of River Tactics.
:Out of my 4 active characters (3 of which are survivors) I have two alive and a third which is just waiting for a revive from my group. In my opinion, the much more varied playstyle is what makes survivors fun.-- 20:10, 9 June 2011 (BST)
::No, actually survivors win by reviving zombies. It's actually the exact equivalent action to zombies killing survivors and one of two actions actively tracked by the game due to it's important. Everything else, such as an inhabitable map, comes from that one action. River Tactics really have nothing to do with it beyond it being a strategic approach to keep possible revivers alive. It's not even a very good one. Also, survivors don't win direct sieges because coordinated survivors run away or intentionally don't show, there is no other reason. --<small>Karek<font face="Monotype Corsiva">maps 2.0?!</font></small> 20:16, 9 June 2011 (BST)
:::Yes, reviving is how survivors "win" ultimately. However, reviving zombies doesn't remove a hostile horde; they don't stay living for very long and will spend the time that they do causing difficulties. Hence why the best thing to do if you find a 100+ horde outside is to leave rapidly. I'm not a fan of the way River Tactics is written but the principle is correct: Avoid the large zombie hordes, go where they've recently been. Coordinated survivors run away from a direct siege because they know that it is very difficult to win: There is nothing that can remove a persistent zombie horde other than boredom.-- 23:49, 9 June 2011 (BST)

:: I have four characters all frequently in four consecutive blocks. They don't really work together in the sense that, although they are around each other, they don't heal each other or things like that. I just one day put them all in the same place. The ONLY penalty I've noticed is that if you attack the same player with more than one character your rate of success is dismal. It happens far too often to be coincidence.  I haven't lost AP, my characters find items easily... maybe it's because they don't work together. -- EBA
Zombie Translator
Does anybody know of one that works with internet explorer, and most zombies use? Thank ye. 7th June 2011 19:12 GMT LoneGuardian09
:hmm, not sure: It's kinda difficult to do on-the-fly translation in Internet Explorer because it lacks extension support. Best I can suggest is to use try one of the websites listed or download Firefox (it really is a lot better, anyway!). As for what most zombies use: I would say that most zombies don't use a code, they metagame. Of the three, though, the first and second are probably most accepted.-- 21:11, 7 June 2011 (BST)

- I have recently gotten into Urban Dead, and have been enjoying it fully. However, it was getting boring playing all by my lonesome so i managed to convince a few of my buddies to play with me. However, I created two of the accounts on the same PC. (Both my friends accounts were created on one PC). We also chose names that were similar, (EG. John Joe Jake [something like that]) and for the first week of their playing, I would check up on their accounts to make sure they wern't lying in the street or something. I did not do much on their accounts, just made sure they were okay. Anyway, my main concern is that if the three of us interact, (we chose classes that could help each other, 1 doctor 1 cop 1 fireman) will our percentages be lowered, or any other sort of penalty? If you know the answer, it would be much appreciated if you share. CptKeys

Script language
Hi, I'm a fan of UD but I'd like to see the game in another jacket once. So, does anyone up here know what script code the game uses, so I can make it? And is the source code (partly) available for public?

A (Mostly) Definitive Answer
Thanks in advance, --User:Coder 14:58, 14 Decemeber 2010 (UTC)
... to the "Multiple Characters" Question

I had two characters unintentionally work together once. They were in adjacent neighborhoods and the second ended up shooting at a zombie the first had shot but not killed. This character, with max firearm skills, <b>missed 35 pistol shots in a row</b>. Kevan wasn't kidding when he said that characters that work together will have their percentages changed. However, it seems that characters can be in the same neighborhood without ill effects. I would imagine it will likely look suspicious if one of your characters starts giving preferential heals/revives/etc. to one of your other characters, though.
:Hi, Cody. The source code for UD is not public, however if you'd like to get a different experience from UD, you may be interested in some user scripts that have been created by some outstanding UD Players. You can read up on several of them on this page. Others are available, too. You may want to check User:Aichon/Userscripts is also a good place. There are a few that give the interface "a new jacket" as you say. Basically changing the UI to look more like actual city blocks. I hope this helps. 15:09, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
::While the source code for this game is not public, there are some spinoff games that have open source code. Shintolin, for instance, is open source, though it's not necessarily a good foundation to build on, since it was basically used as a chance to learn Ruby for its original programmer. Also, I'm always quite flattered when folks link to my userscript collection, but I feel I need to add the disclaimer that I merely collected the ones I liked. The vast majority of "my" scripts were written by others (predominately Midianian) and are merely being maintained or slightly modified by me. 18:23, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

There is no truth to the rumor that characters in close proximity are charged more AP for their actions. Also, characters can inhabit the same building and their search odds will not be modified-- assuming, of course, you don't interact with your other account.
:Oh and to answer your question about which code is used, check out this conversation on the game designer's User Talk page. It is a modified Perl script. 15:26, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
::Hi, thanks for the reply. What I basically want to do is make a new game, alike to urban dead. So, 'in a new jacket'. Any suggestions? --User:Coder 19:48, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
:::Well since you were asking for a publicly available source code, I presume you don't want to start from the ground up. So your best bet would be to find an open source game which you can modify to suit your needs. You may want to check sourceforge or other open source communities. You may get lucky and find something close to the UD interface you can modify to your liking. 20:04, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

As always, these are my personal experiences, and your mileage may vary depending upon changes made in any future patch.

Hey i have one character and i just started playing with a friend who goes to a boarding school, and other people play the game at his school. The problem is that his whole school shares the same IP. I moved his character for him once, and now my character can almost never hit people when he attacks. I moved him one suburb away from my character and moved it to the suburb later that day. What could cause this? --Mrs Fitting 01:09, 24 February 2006 (GMT)
What if two characters once used the same computer?
Some of the guys at school and I all made our characters on the same computer. We don't use the same computer anymore, but we want to interact. Are we safe to start working together now as long as we stay off the same computer or can we still be penalized? Also, if we use different library computers in the same library, will we be penalized or are those different IPs?  --OmarJXII 19:01, 27 Feb 2009 (EST)
:It should be alright to start interacting, as long as you don't use the same computer network/IP to access it at any time in the future. And yes, if you use the same library, it's likely that they will have the same IP and you may be penalised <small>-- <span style="color: Red">boxy</span> <span style="color: Red">talk</span> • teh rulz 01:35 28 February 2009 (BST)</small>
Okay, I'm with you so far, but now what about this. The other day at school I maxed out the 160 hits per day (since I only use two characters I assume someone else at school used the same computer) so I tried to finish the one character from another computer, and it worked. Does that mean that these are seperate IP addresses? If so does that mean my friends and I can be on a team together? --OmarJXII 17:52, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
:That could mean either the two computers are on separate IPs in which case you can work together, one on each machine, without penalty OR it could just have been weird timing and the machines are on the same IP but the reset time came round during your change over from one to the other. Maybe not very likely but it is possible.--DI Sweeny 17:59, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
:First of all, back to your homework! :P I wouldn't suggest working together, especially if you have a tendency to swap computers. But there are plenty of web sites around that will tell you the IP address you are accessing the net with. Google IP Checker (or similar), or perhaps someone else here has a link to one in the favourites <small>-- <span style="color: Red">boxy</span> <span style="color: Red">talk</span> • teh rulz 01:06 18 March 2009 (BST)</small>
:Yeah, I would suggest doing what Boxy said and check the IPs of your computers, just to clarify if the computers do have the same IP, but by the sounds of it, they all have different IPs. 01:41, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

:"What could cause this?" A run of bad luck. I've had characters at 50 AP fail to land an axe hit and I've missed 13 times in a row with a 65% pistol. It happens. My characters maintain at least a full suburb of distance between each other, so zerging is never an issue. It is believed that UD's zerg penalty is temporary and only applies to shared targets -- although getting your name posted on some group's zerg-list could last forever.  Unfortunately Urban Dead isn't suitable for a massively shared IP address, so I'd recommend continuing to play from a different IP. There is no penalty for just having multiple characters.  I have 3 and play them all consecutively once or twice a day.  It's generally good practice to keep them separated (by how much specifically, I don't know) just to avoid any confusion about your intent. All 3 of my characters have been having good or average luck as far as rolls. You may get a run of bad luck, but that's chance for ya.  For things not involving luck (e.g. having one of your chars revive another) I can't see why that would affect anything; run in, revive, then separate.

I recently took off to the mall to look for a Radio transmitter in the tech store. Apparently it has an 8% search probability rate. But so far I've spent about 100 AP looking for one in the tech store and my search has been fruitless. I just want to make sure it's possible to find one in the tech store, and that I didn't read wrong on where to find them while wasting AP.--Degree7 04:24, 15 August 2009 (BST)
:You are breaking the multiple characters rule. so yes there is a chance that some may be deleted. Although there is no direct contact you still receive benefits from having your character in the same place and clan. The enemy you kill with one character is less of a threat to one of your other characters. Your action help your clan, making them stronger giving them both an unfair edge over other non-cheating clans, and raises their ability to protect your characters in return. So while your are not directly working together,  You're using go betweens And that too is just as unsporting and just as against the rules.--Vista 00:28, 14 September 2006 (BST)

I have no clue on that, but the Anti-Abuse thing seems to work only if you're logged on on that same computer were it was 'flagged'. At my school, we have 1 IP address, and me and at least two others play this game there. Now, One of the people in my group has granted all of us (Note that his only alt is in the RRF) permission to attack him for XP as long as we don't kill him and we heal him. Now, Me and my friend sit next to each other in one class, and we've recently experienced unbelievably bad luck with the RNG when attacking, and searching from on the school's computers (Note we are in the same group, and we are attacking the before mentioned person... No zeds in Roftwood...). However, when I go home and spend the new AP I have at home, I hit the 65% and 40% I'm supposed to, and I find a FAK every other search. --Driaquer
-Is UD ever gonna be a FB-app like that stupid Mafia game?

This is (mostly) an observation. I recently started playing, while staying with family, 'cause my brother-in-law was telling me about the game. While I'm on my own comp, obviously, we're sharing the same IP. Well, I'd started a number of characters over the first few days, just testing the waters and such, and one of them was a doctor, located in a hospital with a running generator, close to one of the forts. It took 26 consecutive searches to find a single FAK, and in the process, I unearthed 7 newspapers. A couple of days later, I leaned that one of my brother-in-laws characters is, in fact, located in that region, so it leads me to believe that my search rate was being penalized due to proximity. In addition, as another character, in another part of Malton, was NOT having excessive difficulty searching for FAKs in a powered hospital, it leads me to speculate that any same-IP characters incurring a search rate penalty due to their proximity to each other does NOT impact any other characters under the same IP.

:From What I posted on Bulgakov's talk page:
What a 'zerg flag' is&hellip;
Mr. non-programmer, a flag is boolean variable that tells you whether something is true or not.

A character's "zerg flag" is set to true when the server detects that the character is zerging.

This flag is then read when performing calculations, like when hitting a barricade or firing a gun. A character with the "zerg flag" set to true recieves harsh penalties. Like a 0% chance to hit.
:An answer to how long they stay? No one knows for sure. Perhaps it is until you stop zerging. 15:01, 6 July 2006 (BST)

:::Exact penalties are impossible to quantify, and even if they were not, I still wouldn't reveal them &mdash; doing so enables intential zergers to skirt the zerging countermeasures. ==Zerging flag and similar names?==
I'm currently engaged in a siege where at least one of the zombie players outside has resorted to making new accounts impersonating defenders of our building. For example, my ingame name is Commie Woman. There's a relatively new zed account that's been outside and in the vicinity named CommieWoman. They've done this for other defenders of the building as well. My question is, would this set off the zerging flag or is it something strictly related to your IP? It would really suck for it to be harder to barricade/attack/etc. because someone out there is impersonating us. My inclination is that it doesn't have any bearing on our successful barricade/hit percentages, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks! --Commie Woman 04:32, 1 October 2007 (BST)

Confirming a group
Would this be considered Multi Abuse?
Created a group, got 10 members, now how to get it confirmed?
I currently have 3 characters in the game, and I'm trying to get a decent start with each of them. The first one got killed due to not finding any VSB safehouses nearby, second started in a terrible area, and I just hate the name of the 3rd one.

Ok, I'm in a group that has 10+ members however it is not confirmed. How do we go about becoming a confirmed goup?<br />
I'm thinking of making a fourth, but I want to get it into the area where the first one is. I'm not planning on logging into the first one anytime afterwards though. If I don't log into the other character, will it still affect my search rates or whatever? What if I wait five days for it to idle out, then move in? Will it still be affected?
Darkvengance 21:06, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Also, when is the 5 day idle count started, time from last action, or time from server turnover(when the IP limit resets)? Jack Squat 19:39, 2 April 2010 (BST)
:Might be late to answer this, but as long as your character idles out, you can move another character into the same suburb and not worry about the multi-abuse countermeasuresAs for when your character idles out, I'm pretty sure it's when the IP limit resets. -- 21:40, 28 June 2010 (BST)

Do Zerg Penalties Not Apply to Zombies?
How is the suburbs map updated?
These zergbies seem to be able to all simultaneously attack the same building and all seem to be able to bite people and maul them, so I wish to know, do zerging penalties apply to zombies, and secondly, can we take this cheat out the back and shoot him, because he's making the game sad? Sassie --Sassie 08:44, 9 August 2010 (BST)
Two questions in two days; I'm on a roll. I was surfing the wiki for a method by which to edit the map of Malton suburbs, but found none. Can this be done manually, or is the map automatically updated via data taken straight from the game? --Pyrranha 03:39, 11 April 2007 (BST)
:Two sides to the coin: Kevan, the creator of the game, has had a history of both banning zergs that are reported to him with reasonable proof, and sometimes (according to some sceptics) a lack of initiative in banning zergs that are reported to him. I assume it's relative to, like most of his UD related doings, how busy he is IRL. As for zombie zerg flag, yes, zerging is a universal rule for all 'sides'. What your abuser would be doing is abusing proxies to get around the anti-zerging measures Kevan has put in place.
:Everything on the wiki is updated by players like you and I. You can edit the Suburb Map (or any other page here) just like you did to this page. But please know what you're doing before trying to take on community pages like the map, or you'll just make work for others to clean up, and possibly get yourself into trouble for vandalism -- boxy T L ZS Nuts2U DA 03:55, 11 April 2007 (BST)

How Do I Update the Dangermap?
:::: My feeling is Kevan doesn't care, as this has been an issue for 5 years and he will only ban characters that trip the zerg flags for some degree (As per correspondance I have recieved) . He very rarely bans characters based on other evidence and he won't ban proxies due to their legitimate use in some circumstances. :On the suburb's wiki page, there should be a big blue box on the right hand side, and at the bottom of it there'll be a link saying "Update Roywood's danger level" or something similar. Follow that link, then add MapSafe or MapModerate or whatever is appropriate according to this guide and save the page. == Some questions ==
Where did Malton get it's names from?
*This is not a question regarding the game, but this wiki page - am I supposed to write new items at the top, or at the bottom? On some other wikis I have seen "add question" buttons - I would made one here if I knew how.. - take a look at this page for an example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Science
This is something that's been bugging me for a decade, but I've only had the mind to bother asking. A lot of these names of places in Malton don't really seem to have much real-world relevance. Some of the names are just weird. Would it have been a name generator? DId Kevan do it by hand, or are these real names of real places? Thoughts? 09:59, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
*How can I know, if I will get hurt after using free running e.g. Im standing in an EHB building attacked by zombies and I need to run away. Sometimes when I do it "the way is blocked by a wall", my character falls of the roof and gets hurt for 5hp. Is there any way to know which way to go in order not to get hurt? (Im not talking about metagaming) or do I have to rely on luck?
:heard he used a name generator, probably explains the dupe names. malton is a small town in uk, perhaps KD has links there? kinda thought you DDR might know KD AFK due to your wiki powers. wish KD spoke with us 10:52, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
*Is there a way to go to a certain direction without free running into a building at that direction (1ap)? - what I want to do, is to simply move out of the building (leave it) and go in that direction the way I would do it without free running. This would cost me 1hp and would prevent from an injury. Do I need to leave the building and then just move in that direction - which costs 2ap?
::Hey Lady C, it’s been too long. Sadly I am not cool enough and have only ever spoken with K personally a very rare couple of times. As I understand it he does have a relationship with some people eg. Ross. I wish he spoke with us too. 11:22, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
*How can I access the goth store at ackland mall? According to the article, http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/The_Goth_Store it is located in the SE corner. I stood there, with both shopping skills, and used the "search the goth store button". A communicate popped up telling me that I should just adjust my clothing options using the "setting button". Unfortunately when I tried to do it, there were no goth store clothing options to pick up from. I have allready asked this question at the Talk page - but noone has answered. Are the zombies interrupting the search? Do I need to repair the building - it is ruined now. Actually I was pretty close to reparing the building, but new zombies came in.. argh! : (
:I know at least some of the names come from zombie films specifically, which I assume he tossed into a name generator of his own creation. For example, if you go back and watch the original Dawn of the Dead there will be radio and TV reports running in the background that mention cities and locations. If you then look around Malton, you'll see that a number of those names show up here as well. Off the top of my head, I recall that Latrobe is an NT in Darvall Heights and was also a location mentioned in Dawn of the Dead, for instance. 15:14, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
*Does anyone know a group of real mercenaries? I mean mercenaries that would actually be interested in doing such missions as "regaining the artifact from ackland mall"? I have asked one group but they declined.

*What are the active radio channels? Im kinda of an RPG/radio guy and Im have been carrying around 8 radios... -only the SPAM channel seems to be active. The mall info channel worked few times. As my character is operating mostly around Williamsville, I was trying to get some working Williamsville channels - but none worked.

:woah. that's a lot of questions. Lemme try get them all. Most talk pages have items added on the bottom, on talk pages there's a little plus sign you can click to do that automatically. Some people will have different rules on their private talk pages. News posts on location pages are added on the top. If you try and free run into a dark grey (ruined) building you will fall and may injure yourself. If it's light grey or yellow (powered) you won't fall. To go in a direction outside you must either leave the building or "free run" into an empty lot which saves 1 ap and has no chance of injury. No idea about the goth clothing sorry, i don't really do the whole clothing thing. No idea about artefact regaining mercenaries. Check out Radio for Radio channels are stuff. A lot of them are inactive, it depends. Try asking people in your in game area or checking what most radios are tuned to.  Suburbs vary, if they get too safe zombies generally romp them. ALiM is a wikigem. Zombies can see you if they are inside the building. If the doors are opened they can't see inside but they can simply walk in and see you, yes they can see in ruin and darkness, same as survivors. www.ellipsisrealtyltd.ca graffiti spam

Stuff like this unfortunately comes up on occasion. You'll see URLs to online games that compete with UD even. There's not much Kevan can do about it, unfortunately. Most of the time, I'll just tag over them if they bother me, which seems to be what most other people do as well. Aichon 15:40, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
I suppose I have three options, spray over them (I've done a few, but it's not my Main Mission, or write to ellipsis realty and ask them nicely to cease and desist, or spray over them with increasingly offensive counter-messages eg. "ellipsis realty are slum landlord ripoffs, avoid!" Sassie (talk) 18:55, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
I'd do the first, maybe the second. If you do the third, it just encourages them to paint back over them in an effort to "correct" the message you're sending. My two cents, for whatever they're worth. :-\ Aichon 19:00, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
Heh...how about "ellipsis realty are such cheapskates they're stealing advert space on UD". Probably wouldn't fit. Sassie (talk) 22:08, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
I just wonder who finds it cost-effective to advertise something unrelated in such a low-population game. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 19:15, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
I can't imagine them getting even a single lead from it. I can very easily imagine that any UD player looking through the To Let adverts in Toronto would think "those jerks that defrauded Kevan and slightly spoiled my game ... screw them!". Sassie (talk) 22:07, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
Even wiki spam is more "effective" in that google trawls the pages and boosts search rankings, but that isn't the case for anything in-game. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 22:17, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
That's a great point. That's gotta be the most inefficient use of advertising funds you could imagine. A ZOMBIE ANT 22:23, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

Well the first point to make is that much more of the map is inhabitable than you might think: Yellow just means that you might actually encounter zombies in the suburb.
Out of my 4 active characters (3 of which are survivors) I have two alive and a third which is just waiting for a revive from my group. In my opinion, the much more varied playstyle is what makes survivors fun.--The General T Sys U! P! F! 20:10, 9 June 2011 (BST)
No, actually survivors win by reviving zombies. --Karekmaps 2.0?! 20:16, 9 June 2011 (BST)
Yes, reviving is how survivors "win" ultimately. Coordinated survivors run away from a direct siege because they know that it is very difficult to win: There is nothing that can remove a persistent zombie horde other than boredom.--The General T Sys U! Zombie Translator

Does anybody know of one that works with internet explorer, and most zombies use? Thank ye. 7th June 2011 19:12 GMT LoneGuardian09

hmm, not sure: It's kinda difficult to do on-the-fly translation in Internet Explorer because it lacks extension support. Best I can suggest is to use try one of the websites listed or download Firefox (it really is a lot better, anyway!). As for what most zombies use: I would say that most zombies don't use a code, they metagame. Of the three, though, the first and second are probably most accepted.--The General T Sys U! P! Script language

Hi, I'm a fan of UD but I'd like to see the game in another jacket once. So, does anyone up here know what script code the game uses, so I can make it? And is the source code (partly) available for public?

Thanks in advance, --User:Coder 14:58, 14 Decemeber 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Cody. ~Vsig.png 15:09, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
While the source code for this game is not public, there are some spinoff games that have open source code. Aichon 18:23, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Oh and to answer your question about which code is used, check out this conversation on the game designer's User Talk page. It is a modified Perl script. ~Vsig.png 15:26, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for the reply. What I basically want to do is make a new game, alike to urban dead. So, 'in a new jacket'. Any suggestions? --User:Coder 19:48, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Well since you were asking for a publicly available source code, I presume you don't want to start from the ground up. So your best bet would be to find an open source game which you can modify to suit your needs. You may want to check sourceforge or other open source communities. You may get lucky and find something close to the UD interface you can modify to your liking. ~Vsig.png 20:04, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

It should be alright to start interacting, as long as you don't use the same computer network/IP to access it at any time in the future. And yes, if you use the same library, it's likely that they will have the same IP and you may be penalised -- boxy talkteh rulz 01:35 28 February 2009 (BST)

That could mean either the two computers are on separate IPs in which case you can work together, one on each machine, without penalty OR it could just have been weird timing and the machines are on the same IP but the reset time came round during your change over from one to the other. Maybe not very likely but it is possible.--DI Sweeny 17:59, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
First of all, back to your homework! :P I wouldn't suggest working together, especially if you have a tendency to swap computers. But there are plenty of web sites around that will tell you the IP address you are accessing the net with. Google IP Checker (or similar), or perhaps someone else here has a link to one in the favourites -- boxy talkteh rulz 01:06 18 March 2009 (BST)
Yeah, I would suggest doing what Boxy said and check the IPs of your computers, just to clarify if the computers do have the same IP, but by the sounds of it, they all have different IPs. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 01:41, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

New Characters

Whenever I make a new character it always starts at a VSB building appropriate for the characters chosen class. I want to know why the building is always VSB, is it a coincidence? Do new characters only appear in VSB buildings? --Dazaras 00:49, 10 July 2009 (BST)

It would be pretty funny if new zombie characters popped into existence inside VSB buildings ;) Seriously though, I don't know. But it is a good place for a newbie to start, especially if they're not a scout -- boxy talkteh rulz 14:07 10 July 2009 (BST)
Yes, it is automatic. This is so newbies start in a safe location, but they don't start in Heavily Barricaded buildings, so they always know where a safe place to sleep is. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 16:38, 10 July 2009 (BST)

Radio

While I was playing Urban Dead, my radio broadcasted this,

25.96 MHz: *crash* *static* *silence*

What does this mean? Has the activity on this frequency been changed or moved or what? Degree7 21:56, 8/8/09 (EST)

How odd. Normally it just means someone has destroyed a radio transmitter that was broadcasting on the frequency you were listening to. I guess someone had a radio transmitter listening in on the military report frequency, and that despite not being able to broadcast on that frequency, we still get the destruction of transmitter messages. - User:Whitehouse 03:22, 9 August 2009 (BST)
Or the Military chopper crashed. --Justinbronze 20:19, 14 June 2010 (BST)
If that's the case, then it seems like another chopper crashed today. Could it be player-influenced? --Aeon17x 00:58, 5 September 2010 (BST)
I'd recommend testing this out by GKing a transmitter tuned into that frequency and see if an alt hears the static crash. -- LEMON #1 08:56, 5 September 2010 (BST)

Radio Transmitter

I recently took off to the mall to look for a Radio transmitter in the tech store. Apparently it has an 8% search probability rate. But so far I've spent about 100 AP looking for one in the tech store and my search has been fruitless. I just want to make sure it's possible to find one in the tech store, and that I didn't read wrong on where to find them while wasting AP.--Degree7 04:24, 15 August 2009 (BST)

Well, that all depends on what admins you are talking about. If you're just talking about this wiki, a list can be found here, but they have no power within the game. Multiple Groups

Is it possible to be a member of more than one group? --Gmmg 19:49, 30 January 2010 (UTC)gmmg

Yes, no reason why not, and no rules to suggest otherwise. A couple of one of my groups are members of two groups simultaneously. Of course, the group listed in profile will be the one that shows up on the stats page, if both are listed neither would show on stats page, which is no big deal anyway. So, yes, join as many groups as you wish, especially CORAM. x --    : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : 20:23, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Would this be considered Multi Abuse?

I currently have 3 characters in the game, and I'm trying to get a decent start with each of them. The first one got killed due to not finding any VSB safehouses nearby, second started in a terrible area, and I just hate the name of the 3rd one.

Also, when is the 5 day idle count started, time from last action, or time from server turnover(when the IP limit resets)? Jack Squat 19:39, 2 April 2010 (BST)

Might be late to answer this, but as long as your character idles out, you can move another character into the same suburb and not worry about the multi-abuse countermeasures. As for when your character idles out, I'm pretty sure it's when the IP limit resets. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 21:40, 28 June 2010 (BST)

Do Zerg Penalties Not Apply to Zombies?

Life in Peddelsden Village has been made miserable for over a month now by a zerger group of zombies, namely

http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=1686708 named: a fat white man
http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=1686709 named: a fat black man
http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=1686710 named: a fat asian man
http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=1686711 named: a fat hispanic man
http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=1686712 named: a fat indian man
they are all members of a group called fat camp (as if it wasn't obvious that they are zergers since they all attack at the same time)

I have personally [i]twice[/i] verbally warned the guy that he is cheating, but this has not been effective.

Two sides to the coin: Kevan, the creator of the game, has had a history of both banning zergs that are reported to him with reasonable proof, and sometimes (according to some sceptics) a lack of initiative in banning zergs that are reported to him. I assume it's relative to, like most of his UD related doings, how busy he is IRL. As for zombie zerg flag, yes, zerging is a universal rule for all 'sides'. What your abuser would be doing is abusing proxies to get around the anti-zerging measures Kevan has put in place.
Can you do anything about it? Contacting the Zerg Hunters Unlimited and other anti zerg groups, massing as much information as possible, and contacting Kevan about it, is probably your best chance. I can't guarantee it'll work but I can say that if you want this guy gone it's worth a shot. Good luck. -- 09:16, 9 August 2010 (BST)
thankee DDR =) I have put a clumsy note on the Zerg Hunters' page - I don't dare put one on Kevan's. Sassie 09:25, 9 August 2010 (BST)
People do it all the time - its just that he never responds ;). Linkthewindow  Talk  09:30, 9 August 2010 (BST)
My feeling is Kevan doesn't care, as this has been an issue for 5 years and he will only ban characters that trip the zerg flags for some degree (As per correspondance I have recieved) . He very rarely bans characters based on other evidence and he won't ban proxies due to their legitimate use in some circumstances. Even getting the zerg flags to trip to a degree worth banning is harder than you think.--Rapture 10:56, 9 August 2010 (BST)

Where did Malton get it's names from?

This is something that's been bugging me for a decade, but I've only had the mind to bother asking. A lot of these names of places in Malton don't really seem to have much real-world relevance. Some of the names are just weird. Would it have been a name generator? DId Kevan do it by hand, or are these real names of real places? Thoughts? THE CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER 09:59, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

I know at least some of the names come from zombie films specifically, which I assume he tossed into a name generator of his own creation. Aichon 15:14, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
