But seriously - what's your take? don't you think you should at least be able to turn free running off? What if you want to move to the street of an adjacent block without spending the extra AP (click building, exit building)? it is kind of annoying, I think. and the ruined building problem, too is a real annoyance. ill prolly suggest a free running toggle some time in the future --ScaredPlayer 18:52, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

There does not need to be an objective standard. "everyone would just spam every suggestion they don't like" Does it happen? No. Some people just have tighter criteria, some have pretty loose, others something in between. They balance each other out, more or less. And like I said, there isn't a big difference between Spam and Kill. Most of the time it makes no difference whether the Spams are Spams or Kills, and I dare say pretty much any suggestion that gets spaminated would have been rejected anyway.
I don't think toggling the skill is the answer either. It'd be a bit annoying to use and would suck if you forgot it in the wrong position. I've been thinking and I'll probably make a suggestion about it in a couple of days. --Midianian<small>¦T¦DS¦SP¦</small> 00:04, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

If you're in a hurry, just read the bold parts. Last changed significantly on 2008-10-18, concerning the location where you put new topics. Which would be; to the bottom.

If I've started the discussion on your page, I'd appreciate if the rest of the discussion took place there (I hate having one part of the discussion on one page and the other part on another page). So, please reply there unless your answer is urgent. Even in that case I'd prefer if you left only a "beep" kind of message here pointing to the original discussion. I always put the pages I talk on to my watchlist (I've got it on automatic), so I will get back to you. It just won't be the first thing I do when I check the wiki. I will move your comment back when I reply. If you do not want this, tell me and I'll copy my original comment here and we'll have the discussion on this page.

This page does not follow standard indentation practice. The main thread of discussion goes straight down, no indentation. If you have something to say to/about a specific comment that doesn't really concern the main issue, place that message below the comment and increase the indentation by one level. Further discussion about/relating to that comment should be placed below the side-tracked comment at the same indentation level. I will move and/or re-indent comments to their proper places if they are incorrectly placed. A quick look below (or in the archives) should give you some idea how I want the discussion to look.

If you write here, then I answer here. Please sign your posts. New messages at the bottom, using this link, or the '+' button at the very top of the page, next to 'edit'. Thank you.

You don't have to care about the context messages, I'll add one if I think it's needed.

Arbies policy

The following discussion concerns the voting on this policy.

Sorry about moving your addendum. I just took out all the "replies" and didn't notice it was you adding on -- boxy talkteh rulz 10:24 18 October 2008 (BST)

No problem. I was expecting that and had considered moving the whole chain myself to avoid getting that moved along with the others, but I've been a bit busy this morning. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 10:29, 18 October 2008 (BST)

Talk Suggestions

Hey. I've shifted Talk:Suggestions to Developing Suggestions. You might want to sort your sig. =p -- Cheese 20:01, 20 October 2008 (BST)

Hmm... T:S does look better than DS, but I guess we all have to make sacrifices while making the wiki a better place :/. --Midianian|T|DS|C:RCS| 20:22, 20 October 2008 (BST)

Suggestion:20081008 Wear and Tear

I don't mind you striking votes, Id just prefer it if you'd removed them from all sections and not just keep. Thanks. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 18:19, 23 October 2008 (BST)

I don't strike them from any specific sections, just where I see them. And I completely missed that one, sorry :P. --Midianian|T|DS|C:RCS| 20:23, 23 October 2008 (BST)

Thank you sir, you are a gentleman. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 20:43, 23 October 2008 (BST)

Changing policy docs

I tried to answer Iscariot on his talk page, but he deleted my comment. Just thought I'd repost it here, in case you're interested (and miss the history).

"You don't go back changing the policies that were voted on in light of new policies, because users signed votes for the policy as is... not as subsequently changed months or years later. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous, and would be impersonation under our current wiki rules. The policy vote pages need to be viewed as historical documents only, and later changes taken into account when reading them" -- boxy talkteh rulz 12:49 29 October 2008 (BST)

i liek

what your doing with your sig. Haha.--CyberRead240 13:15, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

It's a shame that the wiki doesn't have a magic word for just plain random :P. --Midianian Big Brother Diary Room: [513,19] 13:25, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

*beep*

Nice new suggestion portal. How much longer until it's finished? Will it be a separate page or incorporated into one of the current ones? Linkthewindow  Talk  10:55, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

I was thinking that maybe it could replace the wall of text that is Suggestions. I can't think of much to add to it anymore, so I'll probably post about it in the next few days on Category talk:Suggestions. --Midianian Big Brother Diary Room: [511,24] 11:20, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Nibbling on someone's corpse

Would it be possible to merge dumping a specific body with your suggestion? Or should that be something separate? 02:49, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Replied here. --Midianian Big Brother Diary Room: [510,28] 10:55, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Is what I put up too 'similarly' worded? 19:52, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Not at all :). --Midianian Big Brother Diary Room: [520,28] 20:30, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Arbies

I think there's just a misunderstanding somewhere. I'm just saying as a rule of thumb if they show up on Stats.html they shouldn't be refused from making an advert on the basis that they aren't a group. Not that stats.html should bar people from making ads, not even that we should write it into the rules so much as we made it clear that the game engine is god when it comes to having the final say on if a group doesn't count as a group.--Karekmaps?! 18:00, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Karek said:
The recruitment section is meant to work with the Stats.html page, the rule should be if you show up there you can show up here.

I think you'll understand why I thought you meant it like that. --Midianian|T|DS|C:RCS| 18:22, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, bad choice of wording on my part. It's been known to happen.--Karekmaps?! 18:28, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

UDICOS

(Christmas) lights break it, as well as something else I am forgetting.

green/red/white christmas lights, dead fir tree 19:41, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

I'll look into it as soon as I get me some lights and trees so I can test them myself :P. --Midianian|T|DS|C:RCS| 20:12, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

It doesn't display any items, just blank space below "Inventory". I'll dig up the iWit to find what else broke it. Cheers. 20:50, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Well, the first thing: you're using the latest version (1.0), right? If you're using Firefox, you could look in the Error Console (in the Tools menu) and tell me what it says there (just the bits about the script). --Midianian|T|DS|C:RCS| 20:59, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Nothing in the error console, 1.0, and I'm seeing this. 21:19, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Should be fixed now. I'll probably modify it later so that it doesn't leave you with an empty inventory if it crashes :P --Midianian|T|DS|C:RCS| 01:22, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

And, no, I'm not here to spam ;)

Thanks for reverting all that vandalism, thought I would have to spend all night hitting the "Undo" button :(. Linkthewindow  Talk  10:45, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Bug Report: Urban Dead Victim Link acts on speech

I've seen this before but was too lazy to report it – just stopped using the extension. However, other shave been encountering it too, which is why I post here. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 03:35, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

<bisfan> FUCK!
	* War Criminal said "I really need to get going myself. it's been fun people. But I need to do something first." (3 minutes ago)

<Jessica_Devenish> Damn
Obvious question is obvious... anyone got a generator?
<cheese_knight> Bis, check the strike team reports thread. :D
<bisfan> did you sack the Mall dj?
	* bisfan goes to look
<cheese_knight> Not totally, but I think you'll be pleased anyway
<bisfan> \o/
I've got a nexus raid, read it shortly
<Emmy> wait.... there was an "all of grigg heights" and a "grigg heights" ? o.O
<bisfan> nah, that was url's
so it wasn't a real profile
<Emmy>  ?
<bisfan> sorry, I'm in 12 conversations and a raid, give me a couple minutes
<Emmy> ok

<Revenant> ZOMG!

	Oh that
	that's a bug
<bisfan> yeah
<Revenant> you need to disable that victim progile links GM script
	and report it to Midianian
<Emmy> how did he do that if there is no "all of grigg heights"
	?
	ahhht
<Revenant> Emmy, the victim link highlighting script has a bug
<Emmy> yeah, I've heard
<Revenant> where if you say anything that ahs the word "killed"
	it reformats it
like seriously, I could get such a massive RG record
by going into a building with someone with that extension
and saying "I killed this person", "I killed that person"
	etc
	...
	* Revenant is tempted to make an "all of Grigg Heights"
<Revenant> just for WC
	<3
	But yeah, disable that extension
I'll link the iWitness to Midianian.
	If I may?
<bisfan> sure
<Revenant> actually mind if I just copy from IRC?
<bisfan> go for it

Fixed. Maybe now I'll learn to use regular expressions that also exclude the wrong matches instead of merely including the right ones :P. --Midianian|T|DS|C:RCS| 12:12, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Ah, the power of the regexp... once you start down that dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. :P (I have a love/hate relationship with them too!) ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 12:06, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Greasemonkey Scripts

Hi there, you say on your Greasemonkey script page that if anyone has any ideas/suggestions etc. to put them here. My thought would be to simply add the co-ordinates of the current block to the right of the map links in UDML. At the moment I use a bookmarklet, which is ok, but it'd be nice to have it there all the time. --xensyriaT 07:20, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, but I'd rather not duplicate the functionality of a game item, especially not one that only weighs 2%. However, if you want to try doing it yourself, turning a bookmarklet into a script should only require defining the pages the script is executed on, and copy&paste (everything in the bookmarklet except the "javascript:" in the beginning). Good luck if you decide to try it. --Midianian|T|DS|C:RCS| 12:43, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry to hear it, thanks for the reply though, and I may just be inspired now to try to make some kind of script - thanks for the advice! --xensyriaT 13:52, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Someone was after a script to do this, so I adapted Swiers' bookmarklet to run on Greasemonkey. Enjoy. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 12:21, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

Suggestions

I skimmed your portal design for the Suggestions page and I only have one major complaint. Don't include The_REAL_Suggestion_Guidelines. Have you read User:DCC/Suggestions? It's an updated albeit "hostile" version, but more accurate than that other tripe. If a version somewhere in between was written that would work better, but please don't further that outdated and wrong essay.--– Nubis NWO 18:28, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

I think the article has just been misunderstood a bit. It's a fine line between bitter jabs and poking fun through exaggeration (I could also have misunderstood it), but it is in the Humor category. Back when I first read DCC's article, most of his replies brougth a "Uhh... isn't that pretty much what the author was saying?" reaction. But anyway, it's not exactly "Help" and I don't see it fitting any of the other categories of links so it might be best to remove it from the page. --Midianian¦T¦DS¦C:RCS¦ 19:44, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Well Done

Like what you did on the TOS page. Looks good. Conndrakamod TAZM CFT 10:14, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Narcissitic

I know damn well his shit is not just for me and frankly I would rather not have to deal with the little dick. I try not to have anything to do with him but he just keeps coming back and I am damned if I am going to let him have it all his own way when near enough every post I make attracts his petty insults. I don't give a rats ass if he disagrees with me but I am sick and tired of his constant snide remarks and accusations. If you consider it to be shitting up the page then feel free to move it to the talk page, I would if I fancied him A/VBing me but in the meantime I would appreciate it if you kept the insults to yourself. --Honestmistake 16:44, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Please see who I was replying to, and try again. --Midianian¦T¦DS¦SP¦ 17:03, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I didn't even notice that he had replied again! Although you do still call me narcissistic by default :) --Honestmistake 17:31, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Help!

don't suppose you can explain how the hell i put images i upload onto my page could you? I really should know by now but I don't and i want to brighten my page up a little --Honestmistake 15:37, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I promise not to upload nipples just to annoy Nubis ;) --Honestmistake 15:38, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

You mean this image? Just write on your page. There's more stuff about images here. --Midianian¦T¦DS¦SP¦ 16:06, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks... I will get too it on Monday while work is slow. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Honestmistake (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.

Votes

As a moderator or whatever format nazi you are, striking my comment may have been right. It is also your duty yo strike down Cheese' spam vote, as it is invalid. He says the idea is unworkable.

Invalid Votes Server Load and Programming Complexity are NOT very good Kill reasons. You are voting on the merit of the suggestion and whether or not you think it belongs in the game. Server load/complexity issues are up to Kevan to decide.

--ScaredPlayer 00:20, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

How is disputing spam votes a waste of time? here we have sysops and other veteran players using their experience in UD as weight to throw around when voting. Half of the people who have voted spam on mine and the other suggestion did not follow the guidelines for spam votes, and you know it.--ScaredPlayer 00:22, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Are you a sysop? And please refrain from personal attacks - "You'd make a fine politician."? Real mature there. It seems after my lengthy explanation many of the people who have voted (with the possible exception of extropymine) still misunderstand my point. I'm not trying to buff survivors (as EVERYONE thinks). I'm trying to make free runners and non-free runners the same. That's all. --ScaredPlayer 00:29, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

YOU REALLY ARE A FORMAT NAZI LOL http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php?title=Suggestion:20090324_Change_to_Free_Running&diff=1421971&oldid=1421963 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by ScaredPlayer (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.

No, I'm not a sysop. I'm just the guy who keeps the suggestions system (and many other places on the wiki) clean. Yes, I'm a formatting nazi (you say that like it's a bad thing! :D), after all, I did create this template. Your signature was in the wrong place and putting the hash and colon the wrong way around messed up the numbering of the votes in the Spam/Dupe section.

I will answer to the rest in the morning (I should have been sleeping hours ago), however I'll say that you're misunderstanding a lot of things. --Midianian¦T¦DS¦SP¦ 00:47, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

OK, let's see...

 • Cheese's vote: You misunderstand what he's saying. He doesn't mean it's impossible to implement, he's saying there is no way to rework the suggestion into a good one.
 • Disputing Spam votes: It's a waste of time mostly because the difference between Spam and Kill is minimal. At the moment it looks like it's not going to affect either of the suggestions you're arguing about it on whether they're Spams or Kills.
 • Guidelines for Spam votes: What I might qualify as "ridiculous" you might not. Don't assume someone is abusing the vote just because you do not think it's some crazy uber power or something else ridiculous. It's subjective.
 • Personal attacks: Sorry if were offended by that, it was targeted more at politicians than you. But really, you should keep your suggestions shorter. People do not like to read a lot of stuff, especially when most of it is only reasoning for the suggestion and the suggestion itself is rather simple.
 • Your suggestion: People do not care what you mean to do with the suggestion. You might be trying to make free runners and non-free runners the same, but that's not what people are seeing the effect being. And that's how they're going to vote.

--Midianian¦T¦DS¦SP¦ 08:36, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

What you said about stuff qualifying as "ridiculous" is true... although there's gotta be some kind of objective standard, otherwise everyone would just spam every suggestion they don't like, claiming it's "some kind of uber super power imba" shit like that. And yes, I will try to keep my suggestions shorter in the future - it seems UD Wiki members are turned off by lengthy explanations.
