20070606 Titles for players.

Seventythree 23:35, 6 June 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
New thing!. Suggestion scope
Just about everyone. Suggestion description
Before I start, I'd like to thank DonTickles for getting me thinking about this kind of thing, and TargetZombe for Ironing out a potential pitfall, and AxeHack for his enthusiasm. Thanks guys. Ok, so you've been playing for a while, and you're getting a little bored with kill, heal, barricade ect. So, how about a nice shiney title to recognise your efforts! The titles themselves would be tied into statistics based on your actions within the game itself. You would be able to see these statistics in your profile, but others would not. There are three stats for survivors, and three for zombies. For survivors, these are:

  • Succsesful attacks made
  • Number of people healed
  • Number of zombies scanned + Revived

The title you receive is tied into whatever category you score highest in. For attacks this would be something like Sargent, for healing, Doctor and for scanning and reviving Proffesor.

For zombies the statisics recorded are as follows:

  • Succsessful barricade attacks + Ransacks (earns title Defiler)
  • Succesful attacks made (earns title render)
  • Survivors infected (earns title Plauge-ridden)

Title names are not definate for now, obviously. And you would not be able to see the title of a zombie if you are a survivor and vice versa.

You can choose to ignore others titles, and choose not to have a title yourself, either on the map itself, while veiwing others profiles or completely. the titles appear in bold before the characters name, both in the profile and on the map. Abbreviations of the title names may have to be used on the map due to space restrictions. Thanks for the help, and enjoy voting. There may have to be some form of wheighting in favour of certain categories that are performed less often out of neccesity. Not sure how that would be done.

  • Note The Category Number of people healed should read amount of people healed, or amount of FAK used, same thing realy.--Seventythree 23:52, 6 June 2007 (BST)

Keep Votes

  1. Author vote --Seventythree 23:35, 6 June 2007 (BST)
  2. Not bad...but I still think we should toss in the titles and a 1 level increase for just 1000XP...But what the hell. Here's that keep vote. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 23:42, 6 June 2007 (BST)
  3. Keep - What a terrible suggestion! I see flaws, here, here and there! Wait, ach! I typed keep by accident! Also maybe amount healed instead of number of people? --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 23:47, 6 June 2007 (BST)
Arg! I'm realy not up to speed today, of course, that's what I meant. I'll just add a note. Thanks, that's twice I owe ya.--Seventythree 23:51, 6 June 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep - Could be intresting and might taste like chicken.--karek 04:52, 7 June 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep Sounds cool. Just wondering if it adds any PK or ZK kills to the total. I can see PK/ZK's going up but I still like it--Dragon fang 05:55, 7 June 2007 (BST)
  6. Keep - Good idea but, changing successful attacks made to zombies killed would be better. --Sonofagun18 08:57, 7 June 2007 (BST)
  7. Keep Uh... if they will be switchable off... --Duke GarlandTLCD SSZ 08:58, 7 June 2007 (BST)
  8. Keep You have my vote. Just one question. Lets say your a Zombie with the defiler title. Does it show up if you've been revived? As in you see a Survivor here. He bears the title Defiler on his shoulder. That was an example scenario for anyone that cares. But seriously, I don't want to be a Death cultist with a Sign saying "I'm really a Zombie" hanging around my neck every time I'm alive. Yes a turnoff/on switch would fix the problem, but that takes time. Time which most CRed PKers just aint got. A dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 09:37, 7 June 2007 (BST)
RE Essentaily your character as a survivor will have a survivor title, and your character as a zombie will have a zombie title, both based on your actions as zombie or human.--Seventythree 11:38, 7 June 2007 (BST)
  9. Keep mheh, but it's flavor-- Vista  +1  13:03, 7 June 2007 (BST)
  10. Keep - About time people liked a title-based suggestion. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 14:37, 7 June 2007 (BST)
  11. Keep - Ooh. If you carry a crucifix, and spend enough time in churches, can you be called a reverend? I like it even if there's no title like that though... Professor Charley... :) --Charley C. 15:46, 7 June 2007 (BST)
  12. Keep - With one question: are titles seen by others, just not stats? Why not display stats, with an ignore option for those too? Obviously, UD doesn't care as much about individual player stats as some other MMORPGs, but I don't see why it's that big a deal to have stats public... Not a big enough thing for me to vote kill or change, but I'm curious as to the reasoning. Blinkin the Gremlin RRF AU10 T RR GC 19:36, 7 June 2007 (BST)
RE Well, there is no reasoning behind that realy. I guess I just don't want dumb idiots to go round saying look at my stats, haven't I killed loads of zombies? Yay me! That's about it.--Seventythree 22:27, 7 June 2007 (BST)
  13. keep I looove it. - BzAli 23:56, 7 June 2007 (BST)
  14. keep I like it, as long as you can turn it off-- Che -T GC X 03:34, 8 June 2007 (BST)
  15. Keep - I like numbers and it's gonna be great to add to Urban Dead!
  16. Keep - Vote changed due to option to disable it. --Saluton 02:59, 19 June 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - I, personally, do not want the length of the list of people in an area to double because of useless titles. Provide an option to turn it off, and I'll vote for it. --Saluton 14:42, 7 June 2007 (BST)
RE I stated that there was an option to turn it off. Perhaps you missed it when you where reading it.--Seventythree 21:35, 7 June 2007 (BST)
RE - I did indeed miss that. I have nothing against it, in that case. --Saluton 02:59, 19 June 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - Not only can I not vote for it in this form (since you clearly wrote this whilst in Typo Central), I also have problems with measuring and keeps stats for EVERY player. Skipping over practicalities like data storage and server load (which we can't use to evaluate suggestions) - if there are numbers, or 'targets' that exist players will work towards them (concerns about encouraging arbitrary PKing, GKing, RKing, etc). I think this idea needs to be more concrete in form before it can go to the peer reviewed page. Your suggestion is vague on the details - more detail please, you're the person who suggested it! armareum 06:21, 8 June 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill - What's the point? bragging? --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 03:18, 10 June 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - UD is one of the few online games where I never have to worry about being killed by Shadowbane Nightwish, Slayer Of Nooblets and his Saber Of Pretentious Villany. Please don't take that away from me...--Priz 12:31, 15 June 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill - Titles, schmitles. If you really want a title so badly, add it to your description. It might not be quite the same, but there's all that room where you used to put your clothes. --Anotherpongo 18:14, 15 June 2007 (BST)
