20071020 New personal game events
SeventythreeTalk 15:44, 20 October 2007 (BST)
Suggestion type
New events.
Suggestion scope
All.
Suggestion description
This suggestion creates the possibility of new items and events that are found either on a failed search for survivors at 0.25% chance or zombies while ransacking at a 2% chance. These items take up no AP and add 1XP. The items and events are recorded in a small table in your profile, which you may toggle to be viewable to others or not. You may also toggle the new items and events on or off if you so wish
Some examples of possible events
Survivor events
- Tinned fruit: While searching you come across an intact tin of sliced fruit in syrup. You quickly wolf it down. It tastes much nicer than the food you've been living on recently!
- Wad of cash: While searching you come across a wad of large denomination banknotes bound with a rubber band. There must be a few grand at least here! You tuck it safely away in the hopes that you might be in a position to spend it one day.
- Bar of soap: Your search uncovers a bar of soap. You use it to wash away some of the filth and grim of the last few months and feel a lot more refreshed
- Hairbrush Searching you find a hairbrush in a discarded handbag. you run it through your hair, untangling it a little
- Toothbrush You find a wash bag under a pile of old boxes. In it is the last of a tube of toothpaste and a toothbrush. Brushing your teeth for the first time in days feels strange, but very refreshing.
Zombie events
- Photo of loved one. Tearing through the contents of the building, you stumble across a framed picture which reminds you of... something. You stare at it for a moment, then let it slip to the floor with a vague filling that you have forgotten something important
- Rat nest: Destroying the room you discover a nest of rats... the baby ones tasted best!
- Destroyed room You smash the room leaving mess everywhere... A memory of where you lived before... this? briefly surfaces
- Naughty photos You tear the door off a locker, uncovering some pictures of naked humans. They looked a whole lot tastier than they where.
- CD player A small grey box in the corner of the room briefly gets your attention. It's making noises like a human screaming, but when you smash it all you find is a broken silver disk
- Olive jar You find a small jar full of what looks like green eyeballs. Smashing it open you are disappointed to find all they taste like is a little salty
Please note that these events are only examples of possible events, to give you an idea of what could occur. My main suggestion is the actual existence of these events in the first place. On receiving a game event for the first time a message explaining what they are pops up, so as not to confuse people. A whole lot of thanks goes to Rictor Stilwell, WanYao, HonestMistake, Pesatyel, Steakfish, Midianian, The Mad Axeman, Pdeq, John Rubin, Taint, Rosslessness, Karth, Acoustic Pie and Bobotalkclown for their suggestions and contributions. Here are some more examples of possible game events suggested by them.
EDIT I am a fool, and as such, I forgot to mention that, as discussed on the discussion page, there will be new events added every now and then, In a similar way to clothes (some of them hidden "secret" events, not pulicised on the wiki). One person even suggested that a new page may be created for users to submit ideas for events, similar to that of the clothes suggestion page. That is all.--SeventythreeTalk 16:07, 20 October 2007 (BST)

- Keep - excellent flavour and as you said they can be changed/added to regularly to keep them fresh! Any way given the rats one is mine I am hardly gonna vote kill ;) --Honestmistake 23:05, 20 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Evidently the spam voters are allergic to harmless flavor. --Hhal 01:11, 21 October 2007 (BST)

- Keep - As with Hhal. --Aeon17x 03:08, 21 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Good idea, possible update/addition of new events sold me. --Kikashie ELT 07:16, 21 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Whats the point of a Role playing game if random RP-esque shit doesn't happen occasionally? Would add flavor to the game. I'm not sure about having these events give you xp, but then again I don't care. --O'Sheehy 20:20, 21 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - I do like it, as it's just a very small, very simple thing that can bring a nice touch to the game. I'm going with the assumption that ~20 of these mini events would be made for both surviors and zeds. Personally, I'm all for having on be "you find a pocket-game/gameboy with just enough power left for an hour of gaming. when the battery dies, you find your spirit lifted." On another note, I totally think that "tin of peaches" should be a flavor item you can find in some place; maybe a gradeschool cafeteria, for a touch of the morbid. --Psiborg 01:25, 22 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - I love this stuff.--the one, the only, sushiknight (talk contribs HARD E.N.D.) 01:44, 22 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep- Toothpaste is a government conspiracy though. doc crook 02:27, 22 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - As everyone above. --Private Mark 04:53, 22 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - A good idea, one of the few that has not been suggested before (and shot down)--Etherdrifter 12:24, 22 October 2007 (BST)]
- Keep - I like it.--Actingupagain 16:08, 22 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Implement now. --MrCoolantSpray 23:29, 22 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - But only the ones that make sense. I doubt I'm going to find a picture of a loved in a shady scientific corporation's secret lab or in a bar. --Howard Bentley 04:33, 23 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Flavor is always a good thing. --Uncle Bill 06:22, 23 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep -Adds to the atmosphere of the game more than any suggestion I have ever seen. It's adds an element of dread and loss that is key to the genre but has been lacking in the game thus far. It also has some of the ironic humor that also fits in well. --Reaper with no name TJ! 19:33, 23 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep/small change -As I stated in on the suggestiontalk; it would be nice if this was building specific. But I love the idea! Also wouldn't count towards spam since you can toggle it. On a side note I also wish I had written what reaper did above - but i didn't so now I can only concur. -- Karth FoD 15:46, 25 October 2007 (BST)
- Keep/small change -As Karth. Also, I'm not so hot on the idea of having pictures of naked people in the game, even if you can't actually *see* anything. The zombie flavors could be amped up a little, too; they don't quite seem as interesting as survivor flavor. --Sheana T / TMZ 20:58, 25 October 2007 (BST)
- While Searching... You found a KEEP VOTE! You immediately use it on a suggestion you think appropriate. ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 03:57, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep - Why the hell not? --Druuuuu 18:32, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep - Nothing to say. -J. A. 23:37, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep - I've said it before, I like color, but might need a little more refinement? --Mr NoName001 23:44, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- Keep - More flavor is what Urban Dead needs in order to stay great. --Abi79 AB 12:17, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
Kill Votes
- Weak Kill - Plus de saveur, très bon! But, the problem with this is that once you've seen them all... well, you've seen them all... Consider how you just start ignoring messages like this in regular computer RPGs... So they'd need to be constantly updated. It's a spiffy idea in many ways that I am just BARELY voting against. --WanYao 16:02, 20 October 2007 (BST)
- Oh, crap! I forgot to add in a couple of sentences regarding the creation of new (and sometimes seceret) Ingame events. Is it too late to add that do you think?--SeventythreeTalk 16:04, 20 October 2007 (BST)
- Because I voted on it almost instantly, yeah, I think so... sorry about that... :( But I have no problem with you changing it, I won't report you for VANDALISM!!! :P --WanYao 16:07, 20 October 2007 (BST)
- Well, rules can be bent sometimes, not like it's hurting anyone. Thanks!--SeventythreeTalk 16:08, 20 October 2007 (BST)

- Weak Kill - I love the idea in theory, but when we play the game for long enough, it'll get kind of silly - if I find photographs of my "loved ones" all over the city, it's going to get at least a little bit creepy. --Pgunn 19:24, 20 October 2007 (BST)
- Weak/minor change -Change "humans" to "survivors", just for consistency. The zombies really wouldn't be smart enough to tell the difference. The idea of finding the room you used to live in or a photo of a loved one in a PD or something like that seems sorta odd though... --AlexanderRM 22:13, 20 October 2007 (BST)
- Missing Persons board? doc crook 02:27, 22 October 2007 (BST)
- I figured that the zombie might find a picture of someone with curly blonde hair, and it reminds some part of them of a living girlfriend. Or maybe of a delicious snack from last week. :P --Psiborg 14:08, 22 October 2007 (BST)
- Yeah, but still not many people live in a PD, and there's probably a better example. My first point also still stands. --AlexanderRM 22:18, 23 October 2007 (BST)

- I like the idea, but as others said it would get annoying (and kinda weird) to be finding family photos or tins of food (well, maybe not so much) all over the city. What about "one time" finds? If this were implemented we could come up with a plethora of these items that one could, essentially, have "one of each". Also, I'm not sure about that "viewable by others" when nothing else is. That, it seems would/should be a seperate idea.--Pesatyel 02:54, 22 October 2007 (BST)
- Kill- I would like for this to be killed because as it says zombies, while ransacking, have a 2% chance of finding something. As the suggestion... suggests, this event would be triggered upon a failed search. That would mean that a zombie ransacking a building would, in essence, also be searching a building and therefore it would follow that they could succeed at a search, no? Well, even if the preceding argument does not stand this would mean that zombies would be able to get items, which does not make any sense.-- BKM 18:56, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
