Suggestion description
I propose that instruments can be found in every school in the entire of malton (as pretty much all schools in most countries have music lessons).

Of course as with all of these kinds of suggestions, the sounds made by the instruments can be chosen to be ignored in the settings.

When you see someone playing an instrument you would see:

XXXX played an Experimental song on the .... XXXX played a low and solemn tune on the ...

This could be used at the end of a seige when all the survivors are dead etc.

The tunes

After getting a few ideas this from the talk section, this is it.

As stated before, in any school you can find one of these instruments at 6% search rate:

  • Bugle (Brass)- 2% encumbrance
  • Trumpet(Brass) - 3% encumbrance
  • Trombone (Brass) - 5% encumbrance
  • Drum - 6% encumbrance
  • Acoustic Guitar - 5% encumbrance
  • Bagpipes at 4% encumbrance (found in all mansions in malton)

Originally i had suggested that both humans and zombies could play, but thinking of the needless spam that would be caused, i decided to only make it so that humans could play them.

Brass/Bagpipes - "You fiddle around with your instrument and begin to play a...

  • Battle cry
  • Solemn Tune
  • Funky/Experimental tune
  • Jazz song
  • tune to a fast march
  • a long drawn out low/high pitched note
  • The Last Call."

Drum - "Raising 2 of the many drumsticks you found at the side of the drum you..

  • You bang on the drum making a loud marching beat
  • You play an original drum riff
  • You play the drum beat to a popular rock song."

Guitar - "You move your hands across the guitar strings:

  • Making a few chord riffs
  • Fingerpicking a romantic love song.
  • Making a basic tune.
  • Fingerpicking a famous guitar riff."

When you do play an instrument (for 1AP), as a human you can choose what you want to play on all of the instruments. I think it would be nice use of flavour as well as a good item which people can use. I'm also sure a few groups (inspired by the drama club's idea of doing bits of plays) could do various concerts at buildings, which would be interesting and fun to watch. Thanks for everyone's help in making the suggestion!

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - I thought I voted on this already.  Nalikill  TALK  E!  W!  M!  USAI  01:43, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - Liked this suggestion, I would like to ear a battle cry in a Siege to level up the moral of the defenders. And for the ones that say this is useless, museum objects are too, but we like them... so, what's the problem about having a nice useless item? - LeChuckBR 01:42, 27 October 2007 {BST}
  3. Keep - Although I would like to see Taps added to the list of brass musical choices just to be able to LOWER morale. Flavor = UrbanDead ^ Fun! Antitribu 02:55, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep - There's also some potential here for people to spend XP to learn better songs. --Uncle Bill 04:42, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep - You can probably just roleplay it, but I guess instruments lying around for flavor wouldn't do too much harm. --Private Mark 06:14, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  6. Keep - I think this is a good idea. The role-playing uses of it are interesting, and when flavors are made in-game things they feel official and not just someone talking out an action. Prof. Latirus 06:47, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  7. Keep/Change - I like the idea, but as someone said below, there should be less options and variations. It seems a little excessive. Maybe instead it would say "You play the anthem of [Group]", so that way people could declare a victory/defeat in the name of their group. It seems as though this idea probably wont pass peer revision, though. --O'Sheehy 17:52, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  8. Keep- Yay, more Role-Playing! --VkkhamulT! A! FU! U 20:50, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  9. Change- Add skill 'Rock legend'. This allows survivors to ransack hotels.Studoku 22:32, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  10. Keep - From Voting Rules: "If you do not like the idea, and it's not some crazy uber power or something else ridiculous, VOTE KILL, NOT SPAM." This is not ridiculous. Musical instruments exist in large numbers. Many people play them. Some people are voting Kill, saying there is too much here, others saying there is not enough (no bass, etc). After a few weeks of surviving a zombie apocalypse, hiding behind barricades would get dull. Thus: books, which can be found and read. Also, radio, speaking, and graffiti that isn't "tactical" but for entertainment and diversion. In an apocalyptic setting, music would be ideal for warding off despair, especially when one had a moment of relative safety behind barricades with a handful of other survivors. In George Romero's fourth zombie film, Land of the Dead, zombies are featured relatively prominently who wander around banging on and blowing into instruments - one has a tambourine, one blows into a tuba and another attempts to play a trombone. 'Wild Zero,' one of the best Japanese zombie films, features a punk rock band as survivor protagonists. One of them keeps his guitar with him and occasionally strums it despite the zombies. I'm pretty sure I've seen someone play a harmonica in a zombie film, but I can't recall which one at the moment. I doubt this will be added, because I don't think the added value will match the work required to add it. But the idea has merit, and decisions about the difficulty of incorporating ideas should be left to the game developer. Clay5x 11:12, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  11. For the Band Geek in All of Us deedodadut doDAH, CHARGE!!!! ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 04:35, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
  12. Keep - I like it, should be like flares, so survivors can signal to each other... Captain Winters 05:49, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
  13. Keep - WAAAH BOO HOO IT AR POINTLESS. Fuck off. Glenstone 21:35, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
  14. Keep - I don't mind this, it could use a bit of tweaking though. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 22:25, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
  15. keep you should also have the choice to suck horifically, that would be funRobotUtron 14:24 11-Nov-07 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - The stuff you find in schools isn't that usefull anyway, so diluting the searches isn't the problem. The problem is just the shear uselessness of it. If you want people to know you're playing an instrument, just RP it: "Mr. X: Plays a happy tune on his trumpet." For the record, if you suggest something that can be toggled, it's probably not worth it... you're basically saying "I know a large number of people will hate this enough that they will wish it didn't exist." --Steakfish 01:39, 27 October 2007 (BST)]
  2. Kill - Pointless Sockem 01:41, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  3. I kinda like it but I think you have too much here. Start with like 2 instruments and fewer "song types". If this were to be implemented, new instruments could be added like clothes.--Pesatyel 03:58, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill You forgot bass, plus, you can just write it, like steak said.. --Howard Bentley 04:44, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill - The speaking function is a fine way of conveying RP information. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 09:50, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - Urban Dead is not a concert. Completely out of genre. Can you think of any zombie movie where people are toting around tubas as zombies chase them? --Pgunn 11:57, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  7. Weak Kill- As Pesatyel. -- BoboTalkClown 17:45, 27 October 2007 (BST)
  8. Kill/Change - As Pesatyl. Sorta. Except, what I have seen in the movies are zombies with tubas and drums! Take it from there... --WanYao 01:03, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  9. Kill - Flavor that just doesn't seem to fit -- boxytalk • 03:44 28 October 2007 (BST)
  10. Kill - This would totally destroy my four-person a capella group, The Suvivas. -J. A. 23:36, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
  11. Change Make it available to zombies, and to cut down on spam, f oner or more people are playing, have it say "A band is playing insert tune here".--Pharo2i2 03:28, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
  12. Kill - Useless item which can be easily RPed directly. This will be an albatross for survivors who are searching for things they actually need and want. --Nosimplehiway 17:44, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
