The Pipe
Suggestion description
Here's an annecdote. So I was in a breached Police Station with several zombies inside. I spent half my AP trying to barricade without any success - I couldn't even reach loose. Then I remembered I had a pipe in my inventory and decided to give that a shot. I clicked on the item and received this message: "You don't see a use for that here."
Except there was a use: loose barricades. Loose barricades aren't much of a defense but it's a welcome alternative to nothing.
Since apparently pipes can't be used for barricading purposes once you have Construction I suggest the following changes:
- Survivors can still expend a pipe to loosely barricade a door even once they have Construction.
- Pipes have a much higher chance of success to get past blocking zombies than barricading. This makes perfect sense because a person carrying a pipe in one hand is bound to be faster than someone shoving a giant piece of furniture.
This would give pipes a use even for survivors with Construction as a method for throwing up minimal cades during a zombie breach. Loose barricades may be a minimal defense but the few AP it takes to bring them down buys the survivors inside some breathing room. It would make it worthwhile to carry a pipe if you expect a breach.
I think this is a balanced way of making pipes more relevant. It's useful but a better chance at loose barricades is small enough not to be game breaking.

Weakish Keep - Yup, hell is freezing over. I'm voting keep on a John Pyre suggestion. :) I actually think it's sort of dumb that you find all these pipes, but unless you're a rank newbie you can't do anything with them. --WanYao 06:12, 16 July 2008 (BST)

- Keep - I feel like you've suggested a similar thing before, but this one is better. --PdeqTalk* 06:40, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Keep - People shouldn't be worse at using pipes when they get construction xD --Perne 06:57, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Almost Keep - Are you suggesting, for clarification, that if someone uses a pipe, that it will succeed automatically to become loose barricades?Tylerisfat 06:59, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Re Not automatically, but much more likely. It'd be the sort of thing where you're likely as not to get it on the first try, but needing another attempt or two is possible if you're unlucky. --14:39, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Re Well then, i suppose my vote is a keep. although this seems... less then necessary, but i will have to agree with your reasoning. thus, keep.Tylerisfat 06:58, 20 July 2008 (BST)

- Keep Good idea. --Blake Firedancer T E RNL? P.I.S.I.T. 10:32, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Keep - I'm sure that this has been suggested before. But either way I like it. -- Cheese 11:23, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Makes sense as long as it isn't automatic no matter how many zeds are inside. A couple zeds then yeah I can see someone getting past and ramming a pipe through the door handles. More than 4/5 I think your chances of making it through would be slim.--DI Sweeny 12:54, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Re I'm not actually sure how zombie blocking works, but I think it gets more difficult the more zombies are inside. If that's the case it would also get progressively more difficult to use the pipe, but it would always have a better chance than normal barricading. --Jon Pyre 14:45, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Not automatic success, but a higher rate, yes. --BoboTalkClown 15:39, 16 July 2008 (BST)

- keep - Sure, why not.--Jamie Cantwel3 TalkAll glory to the Hypnotoad! 05:04, 17 July 2008 (BST)
- Keep- Regarding the dupe, it combines two suggestions (both by me). One was to allow contstruction people to use pipes, which was removed when Kevan revealed that pipes were meant to be blocked. The second was to make pipes unblockable, which is in undecided. Since the first half of this was removed, I'd say it isn't a dupe.--Studoku W! 12:17, 17 July 2008 (BST)
- Keep - I don't see why having the construction skill should take away the pipes limited barricading ability, but if you have construction, why would you waste time with pipes anyway? Also, to the "dupe" voters, the voting rules state that for a dupe vote to be valid, a link must be provided as evidence. --Officer Dick Trickle 14:43, 17 July 2008 (BST)
- Keep - It makes sense that it'd be quicker to wedge something beneath the door. gabdewulf 15:40, 17 July 2008 (BST)
- Keep - It wouldn't make sense not to have this. Also to the person above me, please sign your posts with four tildes. In case you don't know what a tilde is, it is the key directly under the escape key that looks like a squiggly line. Chill 20:11, 17 July 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Makes sense. Pipes are both too uncommon to be worth searching for this, and too heavy to be worth keeping for this, making the actual advantage very, very small. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 23:18, 17 July 2008 (BST)
- Keep - As above. --Private Mark 05:16, 21 July 2008 (BST)

- Kill - Pointless nerf to Feeding Drag and Barricade Blocking. If this applied to using pipes on empty buildings, no problems. If it did not mess with blocking rates... maybe. As it is, no. --WanYao 01:08, 17 July 2008 (BST)
- Kill - A ticking pipe bomb to me. It's already bad enough trying to sustain a seige. ~Ariedartin • Talk • A KS J abt all 18:21, 17 July 2008 (BST)
Spam/Dupe Votes
- Dupe - its been suffested before. Shortly after pipe cading and the doorholding ability for zombies were implimented. --The Grimch U! E! 11:34, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Re The addition in this suggestion, is letting people with Construction use pipes was already proposed, is that using a pipe is easier than barricading when zombies are blocking you. It's possible the old suggestion was just a way of people with Construction to throw away their pipes, this gives a pipe a slight edge over their skill during zombie breaches. --Jon Pyre 14:42, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Spam - You know what else makes perfect sense, not making it easier to barricade. You had a bad RNG run for once boo fucking hoo.--Karekmaps?! 12:21, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Dupe - I know I've seen this before, but if it is in fact NOT a dupe, then I rescind this vote, because I don't despise it enough to spam. Billy Club Thorton T! RR 21:59, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Dupe - As Grim, with a hefty dollop of Karek thrown in for good measure. --Papa Moloch 22:30, 16 July 2008 (BST)
- Spam - Same logic applies as normal. How do you intend to get there to barricade with zombies there? --Ocular Druuuuu 01:07, 17 July 2008 (BST)
- Re Pipes are hand held objects. Barricade objects are furniture. It's the difference between running with a football and running with a piano. As it said, not guaranteed but easier. --Jon Pyre 05:40, 17 July 2008 (BST)
- Dupe - And I've seen much lighter items than pipes being used to cade, yet they get interfered by zeds all the same. --Aeon17x 00:25, 18 July 2008 (BST)
- Dupe - Already in the game Padfu-Zomfu 21:32, 19 July 2008 (BST)
- Dupe - Actually, Padfu, it's not in-game yet. At least not the last time I checked. People with Construction didn't have the option to block the doors with the pipes, nor do the people with that option have any increased success compared to other barricade materials! I also thought I had suggested this before, but maybe not...--Kolechovski 22:59, 20 July 2008 (BST)
