How GPS Unit Coordinate Sharing Could Work

Timestamp: 06:48, 7 September 2006 (BST)
Type: Improvement
Scope: The GPS unit
Description: The idea of GPS units letting your allies automatically see your position is nothing new. This suggestion is one way the gameplay mechanics of the upgrade could work.

The GPS unit would have a drop down menu listing all of your mutual contacts. Selecting one and clicking on your GPS would add them to your list of people to receive your current position. That player would get a message: "Your GPS unit beeps. Playername is now broadcasting their position to you." To check your ally's position you'd go to the contact list page. The contact list would have a new column added to state each person's coordinates (it'd be blank if they're not broadcasting to you). If you decide you'd no longer like to broadcast your coordinates to someone just select their name again in the GPS unit and click a second time.

This allows the GPS unit to be in the game without necessarily being able to flag contacts as ally, enemy. I think the GPS unit's ultimate purpose should be to continually inform your allies of your position (since it's pretty useless otherwise) and this is a good way of doing it.

Votes

  1. Keep Author vote. GPS unit usefulness. --Jon Pyre 06:48, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  2. Kill - I don't think it's really needed. - Jedaz 06:55, 7 September 2006 (BST)
    • Re The game doesn't need it but by that arguement we don't need feeding groan, radios, infectious bite, and a lot of other stuff. It would make having allies and alliances actually mean something. --Jon Pyre 07:06, 7 September 2006 (BST)
      • Re - When I say that I don't think it's needed I mean that I can't see any real benifit for having it in the game. How often will you need to know where you allys are? Hardly ever, if they are asking for healing or revives then they can already just tell you their location by whatever means that they use to let you know that they need the healing or revives. Give me a situation where this will be useful and I'll reconsider my vote. - Jedaz 07:13, 7 September 2006 (BST)
        • Re This lets you check quickly to see who is nearby. You might want to join with AN ally but if you don't have anyone specifically in mind you won't need to check with all 30 people on your contact list to see who is in the same suburb. --Jon Pyre 07:55, 7 September 2006 (BST)
          • Re - I see both points, but I feel that the usefulness is somewhat limited so I'm still voting kill. - Jedaz 08:12, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  3. Keep - To Jedaz, if you want to check really quickly where everyone is (like if you've been gone a bit or to start forming strategies), this gives a nice way of doing it that doesn't involve metagaming (which is a necessary evil). --Pinpoint 07:28, 7 September 2006 (BST) This suggestion is a much better implementation of either of the two mentioned. Because you can do something with metagaming should not be a kill reason. This has absolutely no PKer value whatsoever. Please read, people. Sheesh. --Pinpoint 23:31, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  4. Kill - Potential for griefer spam. Replicates radios. Replicates mobile phones. Very similar to GPS Imp. & GPS Imp. 2. --Funt Solo 08:43, 7 September 2006 (BST)
    • Re Read the first line of my suggestion. Of course it's similar. This is a proposal of the gameplay mechanics of the suggestion, not the concept. --Jon Pyre 17:59, 7 September 2006 (BST)

  7. Keep - I would like to see this implimented maybe with a distress button on it Blazefire 11:02, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  8. Spam - This makes it easier for PKers. If they have a target they're hunting down, they could just use the GPS if they have their target's contacts. --Axe Hack 14:22, 7 September 2006 (BST)
    • Re You need to start reading suggestions before you vote on them. --Jon Pyre 18:01, 7 September 2006 (BST)
      • Re - Damn....I got this suggestion all reversed.............whatever........I'll still spam it or kill it... --Axe Hack 20:07, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  9. Kill - See vote 4. --Nob666 14:47, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  10. keep - You wont get PKed because of this because you choice who gets to see your position. Unless you send your signal out to a Pker you are safe. You want get spam on screen because the information appears only on your contacts screen. Furthermore, I think this could be useful for finding casual allies if your character is rather nomadic. The Mad Axeman 15:13, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  11. Kill - Although it won't help PKers unless they trick you into thinking they are a friend of yours, this isn't really needed. You could still use beta-gaming and there are suggestions similar to this in peer review so I'm sure Kevan knows about it. --Marie 15:51, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  12. Keep - What the crap, guys? Only people you broadcast too can see your location. How does this grief or spam? You only let people you want see you, and you only get the info when you ask for it, unless someone's being an jerk and perpetually turning it on and off, but they could just stalk you and spam your talk cache instead. Fine idea. --Burgan 17:18, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  13. Kill - As Funt Solo, altough without the griefing part. I'm sick of GPS suggestions already. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 17:47, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  14. Kill - Some as Matthewfarenheit. Replicates all around huh?--Mr yawn 19:20, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  15. Kill - GPS machines already suck. I don't think this makes them better. Plus it takes away more of the mystery. --Officer Johnieo 19:23, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  16. DUPE of my own suggestion GPS Uplink. It should still be around here somewhere, I don't think anyone moved it into Peer Review (though it had the votes) and I don't know how... Rheingold 01:35, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  17. Kill -While I like the idea, as pointed out this is open to griefing. If "contact categories" was implemented, this might work better.--Pesatyel 05:10, 8 September 2006 (BST)
    • Tally - 5 Keep, 11 Kill, 1 Dupe, 17 Total. --Funt Solo 13:56, 16 September 2006 (BST)

Just A Knife

Timestamp: MrAushvitz14:09, 7 September 2006 (BST)
Type: Change name of Kitchen Knife, to Knife
Scope: Makes the "kind" of knife you have more "vauge" for RP & character description purpouses
Description: Just A Knife

I propose the current "Kitchen Knife" have it's name changed to "Knife".

Why?

  • By being more vaugue as to the kind of knife you have.. it leaves more freedom for RP purpouses as to what you are armed with. As well as making the knife a more "desirable" weapon for your character description, and combat. You might not feel so bad about specializing in shank-fu if you are using one nasty a$$ed blade even Riddick wouldn't mind having!

Various knives people might be using:

  • Utility Knife, Various Kitchen Knives, Meat Cleaver, Shiv, Steak Knife, Electric Knife, Scalpel, Handyman's Knife, Combat Knife, Hunting Knife, Fisherman's Knife, Heavy Duty Scissors.. etc.

  9. Keep - I always thought "kitchen knife" was a bit daft. Great flavour suggestion. --Funt Solo 15:44, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  10. Keep - Nice idea, for RP purpose only. Kevan could do the other way and simply add several types of knives to the game, that could be just like our Goode Ole Kitche Knive, or some variants (like... with +1 dam, -5% to hit) --overlord hagnat mod 16:45, 7 September 2006 (BST)

  22. Keep, under one condition - NO SWORDS. F'n trenchcoaters. "ZOMG Masamune! Sephiroth's sword pwnz!" --Blue Command Vic 00:55, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  23. SPAM Don't clutter P.R. with worthless do-nothing suggestions. I suggest that the hit percentage for the shotgun be increased by 0.001%! Wheee.... Rheingold 01:36, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  24. Kill - Hate to break up the keep wagon here, but I like the Kitchen Knife, it sticks to the typical zombie genre in using imporovized weapons, whatever is lying around. Not finding the local blacksmith and having a "badass" weapon custom made. Not to mention, just calling it a Knife is more obvious. Doesn't it seem like when Kevan created the item, he probably called it a Kitchen Knife on purpose? --Rgon 02:57, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  25. Kill -Really are you going to just find a expertly made super blade just lying around. No, you wouldn't. Would you find a kitchen knife? yes you would. --Poodge 04:10, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  26. Keep -The proposal is to make "kitchen" knife into a more "generic" knife, NOT some kind of combat knife. Besides, what kind of "kitchen" knife IS it anyway?--Pesatyel 05:12, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  27. Keep - Since when did a kitchen knife do any decent damage anyway? Certainly no more than punching someone would. Making it just be a generic knife instead makes far more sense. –Xoid STFU! 07:57, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  28. Keep - A fairly obvious and simple one her. - HerrStefantheGreat 07:58, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  29. Kill - I'd prefer to see different types of knives implemented such as the machete suggestion. That way you'd have the kitchen knife, the machete, the katana... Etc. Youronlyfriend 08:36, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  30. Keep - no problem with this as far as I'm concerned. --Kiltric 00:00, 9 September 2006 (BST)

Infection Related XP Gains

Timestamp: MrAushvitz19:03, 7 September 2006 (BST)
Type: XP gain for survivors/zombies
Scope: XP grants reflect a desire to spread/stop infection
Description: Infection Related XP Gains
  • +1 XP award granted: if your FAK use cured infection. Either for yourself, another survivor, or even on a zombie!
  • +2 XP award granted: to zombies who cause infection in any non-infected survivor. ("Spread The Love!")

It's all pretty basic, I'd just like to see an XP grant awarded to survivors who who do what they can to curtail the spread of infection. A reasonable medical assistance bonus. But on the flipside, I'd also like to see an award to zombies who took the time to purchace infectious bite, and do all they can to give it to each survivor... one at a time. (Making them waste more AP for medical reasons, less AP for barricading...) It can make just making it into a safehouse and you only have 5 AP left.. not so bad for your zombie XP wise if he places a few bites all around.

Infectious bite is so easy to treat (if you didn't forget to keep that one FAK!) I'd just like to see a reasonable XP reward around to reflect it's "danger", besides, your survivor won't feel so bad getting infected if it gets them a bit more experience every now and again.

And again, spreading infection is what zombies do.. so the XP grant is an obvious one.

  2. Keep - You Got My Vote For This One! --Axe Hack 19:08, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  3. Keep - ZOMFG GOOD MRAUSHVITZ SUGGESTION!--Gage 19:13, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  4. Kill - Don't zombies already get 4xp for every bite anyway? I don't really think it needs a boost. --MarieThe Grove 19:50, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  5. Keep - Yeah, and survivors can get 15 experience for each Flare shot, or (more reallistically speaking) 10 XP for each shotgun blast. This suggestion is good, and gives more reason for zombies to first infect everyone on a building before starting clawing only one guy. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 20:07, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  6. Keep - These are strange times, I finally think you're coming up gold here, Mr A. --BBM 20:12, 7 September 2006 (BST)

  8. Keep - MrA, your doing good! Keep it up!--Canuhearmenow Hunt! 20:30, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  9. Kill - Survivors already have plenty of different ways to gain XP. And you already receive XP when healing others, so whats the point ? --overlord hagnat mod 21:03, 7 September 2006 (BST)
    • Re - It is possible to cure someone of infection and not get the 5 XP (if they were at full, got infected and just spoke..) The zombie XP bonus, well.. zombies always need XP! MrAushvitz 21:16, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  10. Keep - What is this madness, another good suggestion by Mr. A? --Nob666 21:17, 7 September 2006 (BST)

  12. Keep - Awesome! And it gives the scientist class a much needed buff. I like. --Paradox244 W! TJ! 21:38, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  13. Keep - Although with reservations. Zombies already gain XP for the bite, and do damage, all for 1AP - there's a danger of overpowering. With the survivor, that FAK takes time (and AP) to collect. I'd say +1XP for each. --Funt Solo 21:47, 7 September 2006 (BST)
  14. Keep - Meh. Why not? --Pinpoint 23:43, 7 September 2006 (BST)

  18. Keep - I like it, it makes sense. --Poodge 04:11, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  19. Keep - Potential for abuse during sieges, but I don't think 1 or 2 XP gain is THAT abusable in that circumstance. Other than that, it seems pretty solid, being a limited bonus.--Pesatyel 05:15, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  20. Keep - An incentive for zombies to infect people? Brilliant. People have to remember that there is a lower chance of biting a target anyway, so this tiny bonus isn't going to make infecting people that much more appealing than simply clawing them to death. It does, however, make the early bite/digestion/infection build more viable. –Xoid STFU! 07:53, 8 September 2006 (BST)
  21. Keep - I've always wondered what the perks of Infectious Bite were for a zombie, since they don't get anything for it... - HerrStefantheGreat 07:58, 8 September 2006 (BST)
