== | ==Is this wiki fit for purpose?==
I can't help but notice the wiki is something of a ghost town. It has all this info on it (much of it years old and probably irrelevant), but only a handful of editors. I wonder about user stats (of the wiki, not the game) and also what use any player of Urban Dead might make of the info here.
Coming into the main page we have news from 2015 and a huge community portal that was last edited in 2014. There's links to Monroeville (9 users) and Borehamwood (7 users). The suggestions portal was updated 8 times in 2016, and never since.

:::No I suppose the suggestions page isn't worth too much right now. I would suggest putting some of the danger report and suburb info in a more visible place, since it's almost the only place that has an activity nowadays. --{{User:A Helpful Little Gnome/Sig}} 23:24, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
:It's nice to have a breath of fresh air through the wiki. In terms of user activity on the wiki, the [[Special:ActiveUsers|Active Users list]] is one of the best indicators we probably have. In terms of the news for the front page, that's on Kevan, since it only gets updated in response to in-game news. So far as cutting out the useless stuff goes, I'm fine with reducing its visibility, particularly from the front page, but I'd still keep it around as an archive of things that once-were, since that's one of the primary ways the wiki is used by the people who are still around. I definitely wouldn't delete any old content.
[[ | :Oh, and as far as updating the group listings go, which I saw you had gone through and done, most groups never update the wiki despite remaining active in-game. We typically do a [[GSGM|Great Suburb Group Massacre]] every few years to confirm that they're truly inactive before we remove them, though the last one was in 2013, so we're likely due for a new one at this point.
:Also, hi! I just realized I've never actually talked with you before since you pre-dated my start on the wiki. It's always a pleasure to see an old name return, particularly one who is so well-known from those early days. {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 15:49, 25 September 2017 (UTC)

I was reading through your suggs (some of which are very cool and found this reference to precinct 13, what is it and why is it in gatcombeton? Thanks.--xoxo 10:24, 4 May 2008 (BST)
- Gatcombeton is the 13th suburb (reading ttb-ltr), and the Lamport Walk PD is an island, surrounded by car parks and streets. This is reminiscent of the set up for the movie Assault on Precinct 13. That's all. --Funt Solo QT 12:28, 4 May 2008 (BST)

Purpose of the Wiki?
Is this wiki fit for purpose?
I can't help but notice the wiki is something of a ghost town. It has all this info on it (much of it years old and probably irrelevant), but only a handful of editors. I wonder about user stats (of the wiki, not the game) and also what use any player of Urban Dead might make of the info here.

- Do you mean delete the wiki? Or bring certain frequently-updated content front and center? -- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 23:05, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
- "Bring certain frequently-updated content front and center", yes. (Perhaps some old stuff should be deleted. But, at the least, it probably shouldn't be linked to from the main page. Example: is there a need for the suggestions portal to be linked to right now? Not only does nobody make suggestions, but the game developer doesn't seem interested in updating the game.) --Funt Solo QT 23:14, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
- It's nice to have a breath of fresh air through the wiki. In terms of user activity on the wiki, the Active Users list is one of the best indicators we probably have. I agree that archiving stuff is better than deleting it. We could replace He Who Shalt Not Be Named's news (as it appears he may never update it) with something else, I'm thinking.
- My motivation is to make the wiki relevant: especially to new players. I hate the idea that they'd start the game, come into the wiki and just be bamboozled by all the ancient irrelevant content and think "oh, this place is dead", when actually it's got a lot of useful info. As the main page and some of the relevant templates are protected, I'll need to go through psyops to get it done anyway. --Funt Solo QT 18:12, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
- I'm completely on board with making the wiki more relevant to new players. You may want to get in touch with Stelar, since she's been looking to spruce up various pages and templates in the last year or two. Plus, her talk page is a bit more watched by others than yours is by this point, so reaching out to her would help to bring some more visibility to the changes you're looking to make. But yes, I definitely agree that culling some of the links to outdated or irrelevant resources while putting a focus on the areas that remain useful (e.g. guides) or are regularly updated (e.g. status map) would go a long way towards restoring the wiki's utility.

I know that I'm not the one to do it, since I've had a foot out the door for years, but if there's anything you need I'm happy to serve as a sounding board, offer technical assistance, or provide you with a (relatively) quick turnaround on admin services you may need.
