Hello Bob, i am a victim of zerging and i was wondering who i could report this to, i'm stationed around a Necrotech building and am seeing 4 or more zombies with the same realname and nearly sequential Id's indicating they were created around the same time. i just want to know how to get in contact with the person i should be reporting this to. Thanks! [[User:Fred Fuchs]]

Thanks for welcoming me, Bob. I'm new here in the wiki as in the game, but I love to explore all possibilities. I've seen a problem with the inventory scripts. They don't recognize the Sat. Phone. Thanks for the welcome Bob, I actually played UD a while back and me and my friends are just getting back into it. We're thinking about scoping out Fort Creedy and working on it slowly but surely. We're not sure if we'll base ourselves out of Pegton or Edgecombe but I figured I have AP so I'd update the Danger Map as much as possible while I'm at it. Hey Bob. I noticed you reverted the changes I made to the group listings in some of the suburbs I frequent due to me not being a member of said groups. How are we supposed to keep that section up to date in light of the fact there hasn't been an accounting of active and inactive groups on the wiki since 2013? Thanks -[[User:JAZED|JAZED]] ([[User talk:JAZED|talk]]) 20:48, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
:I would suggest asking said groups on their talk page and if they don't reply in a few weeks, I wouldn't have a problem taking them off. {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5}} 22:31, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
:Hi Jazed! The short answer is to second what DDR said above — a group in question needs to be clearly inactive, not just visible in-game, to be de-listed. If the group puts an inactivity template on their page, then it's fine to de-list them; otherwise, you should leave a message on their talk page specifically regarding their listings, and if they fail to respond in, I'd say a month, you can remove the listings.
:The longer answer is that the original impetus for the existence of the GSGMs wasn't how out-of-date group listings were, but because the listings on each suburb page were becoming untenably long. That's definitely not the case on [[User:Bob_Moncrief/Groupmap|the current lists]]. The goal of having an up-to-date set of listings has always been secondary, but, that being said, we are definitely overdue for another [[GSGM]]. Are you interested in helping out? Please leave your signature [[The Great Suburb Group Massacre/2019/Volunteer Organization#Volunteers|here]] and we'll let you know when we get started. if you feel it's a major problem please make sure to get involved, and get those you know involved, in the GSGM. Seeing more volunteers listed there would definitely give the Massacre a kick in the pants. {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 22:41, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

== MediaWiki question ==
== Apparently we are at war? ==
Hi Bob, thanks for the welcome.  {{Smile}}  Much appreciated.

One question you might be able to help me with: I'm working on a new map project for the RRF (similar in concept to the [[Militant_Order_of_Barhah/Locator|MOB map]]) and I was a bit surprised to find that our install of MediaWiki doesn't appear to have the [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:ParserFunctions ParserFunctions] extension enabled.  It would certainly be handy for the project I'm working on (and elsewhere, judging by some of the workarounds I've seen).  Any idea if this is something we might consider enabling on our wiki, and if so how to go about that?  Thanks in advance!  --[[User:Rick Dulton|Rick Dulton]] 06:06, 5 August 2013 (BST)
I'm only back to the game since a few weeks, and wasn't aware RR was even active anymore. All but one of my old contacts have their names crossed out. I saw one other member at my old NT building, but it otherwise seemed to be operating on the strength of tradition. Kind of makes sense because honestly what was the point? Well I left out of boredom, and I'm up in Houldenbank tagging along with some folks who like to repair phone masts, and I run into this joker.
:Kevan has pretty much [[UDWiki talk:Open Discussion/ParserFunctions extension|decline]] [[User_talk:Kevan/Archive3#Wiki_software_changes|requests]] to install parser functions due to the server strain they cause. ~[[Image:Vsig.png|link=User:Vapor]] 07:21, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
::Thanks Vapor. That's a shame, but thanks for the links - useful background. --[[User:Rick Dulton|Rick Dulton]] 08:02, 5 August 2013 (BST)
::Thanks Vapor! Not something I knew about myself. {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 13:27, 5 August 2013 (BST)
:::No problem. There aren't too many problems that can't be worked around using some form of wiki magic. Math functions would be nice and would enable us to do more of the "random" stuff (ie random featured page) much easier. I suppose an argument could be made that there are a lot fewer editors these days so the problems that were brought up 3 years ago wouldn't be ''as'' bad as described. Still, we already see significant server load problems due to danger reporting. If a parser function were to be used in any of those templates, we'd most definitely see more problems. ~[[Image:Vsig.png|link=User:Vapor]] 16:01, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
:::Also the MOB Map is a variant on my [[User:Karek/ProjDev#DoHS_Maps|old RRF DoHS maps]] as it turns out. What specifically do you need it able to do? I could probably work out a way to do it without parser functions. --<small>[[User:Karek#K|Karek]]<font face="Monotype Corsiva">[[User:Karek/ProjDev#Buildings_Update_Danger_Maps|maps 2.0?!]]</font></small> 03:50, 6 August 2013 (BST)
::::To be pedantic for the sake of being pedantic, the MOB map is actually a variant of the barricade plan that I originally designed and that Rooster implemented while you were inactive for a awhile, and it appears to function a bit differently than yours (though yours does predate the revamped barricade plans by over a year), since yours has suburb-specific data in both the calling and receiving templates, whereas the barricade plans/MOB map/BB4 map/whatever else don't have any suburb-specific data in the receiving template. And I have no idea why I'm explaining this to you, since you already know it. I'm going to bed. {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 08:15, 6 August 2013 (BST)
::::: I'm aware and the new mob locator functions differently too because of stuff from the omega maps which made it clear I had to think of a better way. I just never got around to implementing it in anything but the mob map. As it turns out I've been pretty much involved in every complex custom map in some way or another with the exception of the original [[Suburb]] map (and the SIM Map as it turns out), Rooster used quite a bit of my works and tweaked, updated, and improved on them. Such as the older Status Maps. The big bash maps were actually attempts to duplicate the function of the DoHS maps. --<small>[[User:Karek#K|Karek]]<font face="Monotype Corsiva">[[User:Karek/ProjDev#Buildings_Update_Danger_Maps|maps 2.0?!]]</font></small> 23:12, 6 August 2013 (BST)
::::::Yeah, I really liked what you did with the city map for MOB. Very slick. I've been meaning to make a version of the {{tl|TenTenMap}} that uses suburb names instead of numbers after seeing you do it there, that way it can automatically update using something like {{tl|BB4suburb}}, rather than having to be updated by hand. The suburb-level map for BB4 already automates that process using BB4suburb, and while the MOB Locator's suburb-level map ''could'' be configured to do the same, we didn't do that since we wanted to maintain the ability to update individual blocks in the suburb, which can't be done easily if we're keeping things generic and automated (though I suppose we could provide a mechanism for overrides of the automated data...hmm...). {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 23:21, 6 August 2013 (BST)
:::::::In theory that could be done with two very complex variable calls but someone would have to make a default variables set template for each suburb individually then replace a <nowiki>{{{{{{1}}}|default colors}}}</nowiki> set. The theory being that the <nowiki>{{{1}}}</nowiki> would be repaced with the called <nowiki>{{{1|BlockName}}}</nowiki> from the second variable. It's been a while but that should be doable, if not in that exact method, and it would make each suburb have custom location block calls so you just then enter the name of the location that's the danger zone. It'll probably have to be a little more complex in practice but hopefully that gets across the gist of the concept. --<small>[[User:Karek#K|Karek]]<font face="Monotype Corsiva">[[User:Karek/ProjDev#Buildings_Update_Danger_Maps|maps 2.0?!]]</font></small> 04:37, 7 August 2013 (BST)

Half a decade seems an awfully long time to hold a grudge against a mostly inactive group. The Greatorex clinic is powered but barricaded, and I see no indication of anyone trying to bring it back. Their group page hasn't been updated in 4 years. Was this person even a member, or do you think he was just looking to start trouble in the suburb? What the hell are they even using for a PKer database anymore?

::Thanks for the response and info. I haven't used the wiki in a long time and forgot how to check. ==NWO Religious Affiliation==
Thank you for the greeting, Mr. Moncrief. There's a lot to learn in Malton and I really appreciate having someone I can ask for a word of advice.
I was wondering if it was ok if I made The Taoist Temple NWOs official religious affiliation. Then we could designate St. Mark's Cathedral for an official Taoist temple. Not sure what you think, but it could be cool. [[User:CyberOpposition|-.-]] 03:22, 23 August 2013 (BST)
:Ooh that sounds cool! I'd be a big fan. Unfortunately my MTT character (Bob Moncrief) is inactive for the duration of [[BB4]], but once that ends I'll see if I can swing by for a religious retreat ^_^ {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 04:57, 23 August 2013 (BST)
I do have one question: I've noticed some people have a really nice little page set up for their character and I was wondering if there was a link that perhaps had a template for making up such a page. It would be nice if it had instructions or recipes for making those jolly little -?buttons? I don't know the real name- rectangular boxes that have a few words explaining the owner believes in this or that policy or supports a particular group. Do you know the little label-thingees I mean?
::That's fine, any requests? I can't do much except help repair it, keep an eye on it and say that my group pays visits to the temple. Publicity would be in your court. Otherwise, I'll play it by ear. [[User:CyberOpposition|-.-]] 12:57, 23 August 2013 (BST)

Hey Bob, congrats on the crat election. You'll be a fine crat. There's just one little thing. UD has this tradition thing going for it, and has had a PKer in the wiki crat seat for last several years now. There was a brief time when it was boxy and Ross, but not for long. Now I know Ross, and Ross is no PKer. Oh we've tried, but he just isn't all that into it. So here's the thing. You've got to start PKing. Now there's not an over-abundance of PKer groups left in the game, but most of the ones we've got are fine establishments. You've got [[Cobra (group)|Cobra]], [[FOD]], [[JRC]], [[NWO]] (HA!), [[Org13]] (not sure if they're still around) and [[PK]]. You could also go the solo PKer route. Not being a PKer just isn't an option, I'm afraid. You wouldn't want to break tradition, would you? ~[[Image:Vsig.png|link=User:Vapor]] 23:41, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi, please excuse a sort of dopey question, but I just noticed that my signature has the word "Talk" in parentheses behind my main character's username. What did I do to make that happen? Other people rarely seem to have that; it's usually just their usernames. I'm not sure how to alter it to plain "Catherine Cushing". ==Recruitment Page Problems==
Hey Bob, was wondering if there was any way to change the info in game.  Specifically the description of the Gready Building as viewed by a character from outside that states the building has a "collapsed roof" which we would have "fixed" since we moved in a while ago.  Just wondering.

--[[User:Kyle Matrix|Kyle Matrix]] 22:08, 5 September 2013 (BST)
Dear Bob,
:Not within UD itself. Best you could do would be to write a Greasemonkey script that changes in-game descriptions for yourself, but it would have no global effect on any other player but those who use the script. --'''<span style="font-family:monospace; background-color:#222222">[[User:Spiderzed|<span style="color:Lime"> Spiderzed</span>]][[User talk:Spiderzed|<span style="color:Lime">█ </span>]]</span>''' 22:50, 5 September 2013 (BST)

Hello, Bob. One of my characters ("Constance Claremont") is still on the DEM Revivification Tool request list thingee (http://tiny.cc/reviv). She got a revive a week ago. Was I supposed to edit her off the list? (And leave a thank-you note lower down the page?) I'm confused by this. Where exactly do I go to do this? There's no "editing" tab. Hello Bob,
== Don't see where I'm supposed to choose category ==

I don't suppose you have any access, influence or means to communicate with the moderators of the Rogues Gallery for UD?
Hi, Bob. Sorry to bother you again, but I am confused by labeling the images I upload to the UD site. I feel badly that you always end up finishing up for me. I should know how to do this.
I know I'm supposed to designate a category, but I'm not sure of all the possible choices (I mean, is there a set list someplace of the 20 possible designation labels, for example, something really concrete like that?)
And besides choosing the best category to sort the image into, I don't understand where I'm supposed to post the label I choose - just in the "Descriptions" box?
Sorry to be so thick.  Thanks for your time. [[User:Catherine Cushing|<span style="font-family:Goudy Old Style;color:#008080;font-size:small">Catherine Cushing</span>]] [[User talk:Catherine Cushing|<span style="color:#F74A4A;font-size:small;font-family:Goudy Old Style">(talk)</span>]] 19:36, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
:Hi Catherine! All the highest-level subcategories can be seen in [[:Category:Images]]; I generally just file the image into one of those, unless it's of a building/location in which case I try to add it to the relevant category in [[:Category:Location Images]].
:When you upload a file, you can just type <nowiki>[[Category:ZZZ]]</nowiki> (where "ZZZ" is the relevant category name) in the description box.
:That said, don't worry! Almost nobody, including longtime wiki users, successfully add categories to all (or any) images they upload. I think of adding the categories as part of my regular wiki maintenance activities. {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 20:21, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
::One quick follow-up note: it's important to put the category in <nowiki>[[double brackets]]</nowiki>, not just single — otherwise, the category won't link properly. {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 02:08, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
:::Ah, nuts! I should have remembered the double-brackets. Sorry again, Bob. Maybe I'll get it right the next time. == What is the wiki protocol? ==

One of my unit, Johnny Koo
Hi, Bob. I am writing about the McMurtrie Building page. http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/The_McMurtrie_Building

http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=1755469
What is the protocol for updating a common page like this?  I haven't been able to find a reference to that procedure in the UD wiki. I'm terrified of doing a technical wiki-vandalism or some other offense out of ignorance.

was falsely accused of being a PKer when he was in fact making a retributive strike on a PKer
I would like to correct a piece of inaccurate information. Specifically, in the fifth paragraph: "...with the building currently serving as the Black Ops HQ for the Souless Survivors."

http://rg.urbandead.net/profiles/view/1755469
They are now based out of Rhodenbank. While it doesn't mention the Souless [sic] Survivors on the Rhodenbank page (for some reason) there is a userbox for the Souless on their own page that mentions Rhodenbank specifically. http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Souless_Survivors    So, it should say: "...with the building formerly serving as the Black Ops HQ for Souless Survivors, now based in Rhodenbank."

The "victim" Tasty Snack is a self proclaimed PKer
(Appropos of nothing, it drives me nuts that they spelled "soulless" incorrectly.)

http://www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=969049
Thank you for your time. [[User:Catherine Cushing|<span style="font-family:Goudy Old Style;color:#008080;font-size:small">Catherine Cushing</span>]] [[User talk:Catherine Cushing|<span style="color:#F74A4A;font-size:small;font-family:Goudy Old Style">(talk)</span>]] 00:53, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
:Hi Catherine!
:For location pages, you're totally welcome to make edits like the above, since they're intended to be updated by the community at large. The places to tread carefully are the group pages themselves — a group is considered to control its own group page, so any edits by outsiders there can be questionable. But location pages, you can edit freely. (The group members may come and undo the update, of course, but that means that they have some other information and may also update their group page to reflect it.)
:So the edit you mentioned above should be a-ok! {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 00:56, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
::Thanks, Bob. (I'd never do anything on somebody else's page. Might try to talk to them, mention whatever the matter was, but I'd never go in and correct their spelling, etc. Maybe they did it that way on purpose; what do I know? Anyway, I have more than enough trouble to try to puzzle out on my own pages.) [[User:Catherine Cushing|<span style="font-family:Goudy Old Style;color:#008080;font-size:small">Catherine Cushing</span>]] [[User talk:Catherine Cushing|<span style="color:#F74A4A;font-size:small;font-family:Goudy Old Style">(talk)</span>]] 02:45, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

Johnny and I have both tried to access the site but registrations are down and there doesn't seem to be any other way to get in touch with anyone to contest this old listing that was just brought to our attention via the attentions of a bounty hunter.
== Deletion of unused images ==

Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, what is the etiquette when nominating an unused image for deletion?  I want one gone especially because its gross. --{{User:Gardenator/sig}} 06:08, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
:Just post a link to it on [[A/SD]], as long as it's been truly unused for at least two weeks. (Same is true if it's a prior revision of an image in use.) {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 11:10, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
:You don't even technically need to go through A/SD for unused images that are more than 2 weeks old because they are [[A/G#Scheduled_Deletions|scheduled deletions]]. In theory you could just let a sysop know on our talk page or discord and we can do it without red tape. {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5}} 17:49, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
::That works too — I suggested A/SD because that way multiple sops are more likely to see it. If somebody DMs me individually, there's always a chance I won't notice for a day or two. {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 17:51, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

== Wrong category again ==
:I know I'm not Bob, but for the purposes of the RG if you kill someone who does not have a bounty, you're the one that gets treated as the PKer, since they have no way of verifying that you were merely engaging in a retaliatory strike for misdeeds performed by the other person. That's why it's so important to report deaths you might suffer at the hands of PKers, since it allows you to use those deaths as a reason for striking back later.
:At this point, the best course of action is likely to just report the deaths that Johnny suffers from bounty hunters and PKers to the RG. Each one that he reports will decrease the bounty on his head until it's wiped clean. And having a bounty isn't something to be too concerned about, since it's a fairly common tactic among PKers to bait survivors into attacking them and then report them to the RG. A bounty as small as Johnny's should disappear quickly, and almost everyone will recognize that it was an isolated incident. {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 18:01, 13 September 2013 (BST)

::This is the major criticism of RG when I started playing UD again. You can't get your record cleared anymore, even if you sacrifice yourself to a bounty hunter multiple times, they neglect to take you off RG and it sounds like, if you take a screenshot, nobody is maintaining the list. Thanks for the welcome. I notice that building status seem very infrequently updated in my suburb. So, I'm guessing people are not updating building status either because:
Either you or some other sysop banned me on the discord server. Please cite a rule I broke there that legitimates a ban. You can't, because I didn't break any. == Danger Reports ==
I suppose I should probably say something since I've been changing TONS of your edits.  I've been updating year+ old stuff to "unknown", with the intention of shortening that down to 10>8>6 months if I ever get caught up.  Still not sure I've caught all the 2018 stuff yet tho (is there a way to search that?) [[User:EthrDemon|EthrDemon]] ([[User talk:EthrDemon|talk]]) 22:02, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
:Unfortunately there's no way to manually search it. Back when the [[MDU]] was active I would check every status and mark it unknown on a five-month cycle, but that meant manually opening every building page in the city — a time-consuming process, as I'm sure you've found out. There used to be a bot run by The Rooster that marked statuses unknown automatically, but he hasn't been active since 2011 (it may be possible to code a new one, but I am not tech-savvy enough). {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 16:51, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
::Even a basic template could work, something that allows you to go to say, add '''<nowiki>{{2020}}</nowiki>''' to all updates you make in 2020, and then in the future someone can go through all status updates that link to that. Have one for every year etc. {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5}} 22:28, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
:::Yeah, maybe something like that is workable. It would be great if the template could default to unknown if the report is past a certain age. A [[Help:Magic Words|magic word]]? We got things like <nowiki>{{REVISIONDAY}}</nowiki> to work with, for example. But we don't have things like if functions / conditionals... so I'm not sure. We'd need parser functions. Perhaps there's a way to sorta "override" the templates semi-manually. If it were June, for example, you change something in the danger report template itself so that anything in April (for example) gets marked as unknown. --{{User:A Helpful Little Gnome/Sig}} 00:28, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
::::I just tested it out on my [[User:OrangeTHIEF/Sandbox|sandbox]] and I think one can do something like '''<nowiki>[[Category:LastUpdate/{{REVISIONYEAR}}]]</nowiki>''' which should categorise the page in the year the last revision was made to it... unfortunately adding that to all the existing pages is going to set the last revision as now, so it would only be useful going forward, unless there is a trick to work around that (maybe through a template they already all transclude?) --[[User:OrangeTHIEF|OrangeTHIEF]] ([[User talk:OrangeTHIEF|talk]]) 10:02, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
:::::Putting it in the BuildingStatus template puts all pages that use that template into the categories: the DangerReports, but also the building pages, BICs, etc. Not sure of another template that wouldn't have the same effect. {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 15:11, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
::::::Possibly we could use '''Template:UpdateDR''' - from a quick look I think that only gets used/transcluded on actual '''User:DangerReport/x''' pages (and a few other user pages). If we put '''<nowiki>[[Category:{{ROOTPAGENAME}}{{REVISIONYEAR}}]]</nowiki>''' in the UpdateDR template, we end up with categories looking like '''DangerReport2018''', '''DangerReport2019''', '''DangerReport2020'''. '''ROOTPAGENAME''' will defend against any transclusions of UpdateDR in places other than User:DangerReport, as while they will still get categorised, the category will be named differently due to the differing root page name. --[[User:OrangeTHIEF|OrangeTHIEF]] ([[User talk:OrangeTHIEF|talk]]) 12:15, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
:::::::I've gone ahead and made this change (with a couple of tweaks). My hope is that the template update should cascade through soon and then we'll have some nice by-year categories. It should be pretty easy to undo my attempt if not! --[[User:OrangeTHIEF|OrangeTHIEF]] ([[User talk:OrangeTHIEF|talk]]) 00:16, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
::::::::Seems to be working, but only the ones currently being updated are filling in (from my view). Job queue is at 6008, so I assume ~5500 of those are filling in the categories. {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 16:08, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
:::::::::I've used the purge API and worked through the suburbs, all the categories are now populated - so now all the buildings last updated in 2018 are easy to see! Some details on discord if anyone is interested. --[[User:OrangeTHIEF|OrangeTHIEF]] ([[User talk:OrangeTHIEF|talk]]) 17:33, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
::::::::::For reference the categories are linked as following: [[:Category:DangerReport 2011]], [[:Category:DangerReport 2014]], [[:Category:DangerReport 2018]], [[:Category:DangerReport 2019]], [[:Category:DangerReport 2020]]. It's cool how some haven't been updated in 9 years. {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5}} 22:27, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
:::::I feel like from a practicality point of view, it would be best to consider this as a feature that will only work from here on. Don't worry about past statuses. Too much effort and probably impossible. {{User:DanceDanceRevolution/sig5}} 01:00, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

* There seems to be a bot for the automatic tagging of mobile phone mast statuses as 'old' and/or 'unknown', but no corresponding measure for the danger center, am I correct?
Hey Bob. I'm wanting to update some of the Malton DEM leadership pages and I noticed that it is using code to pull the information from somewhere else (DEMpos). I dont want to screw anything up. Can you point me to the correct pages to update? {{unsigned|DTTL}}
:Hmm! It looks like the DEMpos refers to [[Template:DEMpos]]. On that page you can replace any given listing, and it should update on [[Department of Emergency Management/Contact]] (and anywhere else DEMpos is used). Hope that helps! {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 01:21, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

:Yeah, I haven't seen the mobile phone bot in use recently. And there used to be a bot ([[User:Thegeneralbot]]) which ran several tasks, including marking danger reports out of date, but it hasn't been in use since last year. Every few months, I've been doing a sweep to mark any that are more than 5-6 months out of date as unknown, but if you come across a Report that's about that old or older, you can mark it unknown yourself if you like! [[User:DangerReport/Factory 2,62|here's]] an example of such a marking I did back in June. {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 13:47, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

== ACC Recruitment ad ==
Thanks for the welcome; really nice of you to say hi :) Project Welcome itself seems like an awesome imitative.

I noticed you removed the ACC ad from the recruitment page, is there a reason for this? -- [http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/User:TheOdyssey TheOdyssey] 14:40, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
I've played on and off throughout the years, and got back into UD recently with some new characters. Originally, I was providing intel to a group on TRP statuses and such, but realised I could help more than just them with that info. Hopefully the updates are up to scratch!
:{{indentQuote|text='''After two months as measured from the timestamp the entire advert may be removed for inactivity.''' It is the group’s responsibility to update the timestamp to prevent the advert being deleted. Updating the timestamp may and should be done at any time while the group is still recruiting.}}
:That's one of the rules at the top of the page, but to quickly talk through it some more, ads on that page expire after two months, and the ACC's ad hadn't been updated in over two months (September 10th), so it got removed when Bob cleaned out all of the expired ads on November 15th. You're welcome to re-add the advertisement to the page at any time since you guys didn't do anything wrong or get in any trouble, and to keep it from expiring again you just need to periodically update the timestamp to ensure that it's never more than two months old. You're not the first one to have their ad removed unexpectedly. Happens to me too sometimes. ;) {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 15:27, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

I noticed it's been steadily climbing for the last week or two.. now at "Job queue length 119,266" which sounds fairly off the charts for this wiki.  At the same time I haven't noticed any obvious performance impact.
== Reporting Characters ==

Just curious really, based on past experience and the fact I haven't changed anything recently, I'm reasonably sure this doesn't have anything to do with my bot this time ([[User:TargetReport]]) but I'm wondering what's causing it or what it means..  Is it anything we should be worried about?  --[[User:Rick Dulton|Rick Dulton]] 05:04, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
Hey Bob, a quick question, a survivor just destroyed my generator is there any way to report him? And I have no idea about his whereabouts.
:Wow, that is pretty insane. Sitting at over 122K right now. Looking through RC, the bot does seem like the most likely culprit, since we're not seeing any other activity, but nothing immediately pops out to me as being a likely cause. Just to be safe, would it be possible to lay off the bot for a few days and see if the queue steadily goes down? If it doesn't, we can at least say that the bot is probably not the cause, which will make it easier to look at other possibilities.
If you know how to report, just report this character "<font color="pink"> Garett Hammond </font>". Thanks! [[User: Fury'54|Fury'54]] ([[User talk: Fury'54|talk]]) 06:16, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
:Also, random curiosity: why set up the map so that you need to edit all of those individual pages, rather than one map for the entire suburb where you just change one line per block? I.e. Why do it like that instead of more similar to the barricade plan code where changing the barricade level means just changing a few characters? I think we've talked about this before, but I can't remember what the reasoning was. {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 06:03, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
:Destroying generators isn't against the game rules, hope this helps. --{{User:Dragonshardz/dragonshardz}} {{Goonsig|Dragonshardz}} 06:43, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
::Sure thing.  I've temporarily disabled the bot wiki updates, with the job queue currently at 122,853.  We can see if that influences it. The page design is partly historical but mostly for flexibilty and extensibility - e.g. [[User:TargetReport/51,42-style]] is used by both [[User:TargetReport/Ridleybank]] and [[User:TargetReport/Ketchelbank-Roachtown-Barrville-Ridleybank]] (as well as [[User:TargetReport/51,42]] although that's not really in active use). --[[User:Rick Dulton|Rick Dulton]] 06:35, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
:Also replying further on your talk page. {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 18:26, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
:::Just a quick data point; current Job queue length 110,037 (down 12k after about 48h).  The bot is still disabled. --[[User:Rick Dulton|Rick Dulton]] 03:52, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
::::And now it's increased by another 8,000+ to: Job queue length 118,213.  The bot is still disabled. For comparison, in my previous testing of the bot, each update would generate up to about 10-20 jobs on the queue, which cleared within a minute or two. --[[User:Rick Dulton|Rick Dulton]] 23:17, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
:::::And now it's down to 91,872, which means a nearly 27K drop in a mere handful of hours. This makes no sense to me whatsoever. Anyway, if it did spike by 8000 without bot involvement, then let's go ahead and reactivate it and just keep an eye on the queue's length to see what it does. {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 15:34, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
::::::Thanks, Aichon.  I've reactivated half of the bot (the part which processes dumbwit updates from the IRC channel, but not the clean-up daemon which ages out out-of-date info).  Job queue was 67,973 when I reactivated it.  Performed a quick test and the queue dropped further to 67,955 (-18 jobs) during the course of the test.. so it doesn't look like the manual updates are pushing it back up at any rate.  (It's dropped another 100 jobs while writing this post, to 67,855).  Will keep an eye on things before reactivating the 2nd part of the bot. --[[User:Rick Dulton|Rick Dulton]] 04:21, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
:::::::It's continued to drop.. now down to Job queue length 3,523. The bot has been running this whole time, so it does seem to suggest the job queue spike is uncorrelated (since it continued to rise after I stopped the bot, and then continued to fall after I started it).  Still, I'll wait a few more days before re-activating the clean-up daemon part of its functionality. --[[User:Rick Dulton|Rick Dulton]] 18:41, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
::::::::Back down to 0. Now I'm really curious what it was that was causing all of these jobs. We'll monitor it once you reactivate the bot's full functionality, but it seems as if the parts currently active are not responsible for the behavior we were seeing. {{User:Aichon/Signature}} 16:21, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
:::::::::Yep, job queue is at 4. Looks like whatever it was, it wasn't the bot, and it's resolved itself by now. {{User:Bob Moncrief/Sig}} 23:38, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
::::::::::Yep.  I reactivated the rest of the bot's functionality, but with the throttling increased (by a factor of 60) a few days ago, once I saw the  job queue was back at zero.  It's stayed that way since, so I agree it doesn't look like the bot.  I'll continue to monitor, and gradually scale the throttling back to normal levels if it remains stable. Thanks. --[[User:Rick Dulton|Rick Dulton]] 06:03, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

Suburb Groups

Hey Bob. I noticed you reverted the changes I made to the group listings in some of the suburbs I frequent due to me not being a member of said groups. How are we supposed to keep that section up to date in light of the fact there hasn't been an accounting of active and inactive groups on the wiki since 2013? Thanks -JAZED (talk) 20:48, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

I would suggest asking said groups on their talk page and if they don't reply in a few weeks, I wouldn't have a problem taking them off. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION 22:31, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
Hi Jazed!
The longer answer is that the original impetus for the existence of the GSGMs wasn't how out-of-date group listings were, but because the listings on each suburb page were becoming untenably long. That's definitely not the case on the current lists. The goal of having an up-to-date set of listings has always been secondary, but, that being said, we are definitely overdue for another GSGM. Are you interested in helping out? Please leave your signature here and we'll let you know when we get started. if you feel it's a major problem please make sure to get involved, and get those you know involved, in the GSGM. Seeing more volunteers listed there would definitely give the Massacre a kick in the pants. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 22:41, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Apparently we are at war?

I'm only back to the game since a few weeks, and wasn't aware RR was even active anymore. All but one of my old contacts have their names crossed out. I saw one other member at my old NT building, but it otherwise seemed to be operating on the strength of tradition. Kind of makes sense because honestly what was the point? Well I left out of boredom, and I'm up in Houldenbank tagging along with some folks who like to repair phone masts, and I run into this joker.

MichaeI Jacks0n id=1564806

Half a decade seems an awfully long time to hold a grudge against a mostly inactive group. The Greatorex clinic is powered but barricaded, and I see no indication of anyone trying to bring it back. Their group page hasn't been updated in 4 years. Was this person even a member, or do you think he was just looking to start trouble in the suburb? What the hell are they even using for a PKer database anymore?

. . . einexile (talk) 17:57, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

Wow! Haven't heard of RR=PR being active in ages. That said, I've never run a survivor in the southeast. It's possible Michael is maintaining a personal bounty list — the most recently-active major bounty board was on NecroConnect, which is still up but hasn't been updated in at least a year. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 05:06, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the response and info. I haven't used the wiki in a long time and forgot how to check. I left some graffiti in Houldenbank declaring RR defunct, which I rather thought it was at the time, and it's certainly defunct in Houldenbank. I wouldn't have left except I didn't want to get the people with me killed. I'll be damned if I'm removing the group tag though. I was thinking of going back to the Mad Craskers but not now! . . . einexile (talk) 19:01, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for the greeting, Mr. Moncrief. There's a lot to learn in Malton and I really appreciate having someone I can ask for a word of advice.

Once again, thank you for your kind greeting. Malton can be a bit intimidating!--Catherine Cushing (talk) 04:43, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

Replied on your talk page. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 12:18, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

My signature is not right

Hi, please excuse a sort of dopey question, but I just noticed that my signature has the word "Talk" in parentheses behind my main character's username. What did I do to make that happen? Other people rarely seem to have that; it's usually just their usernames. I'm not sure how to alter it to plain "Catherine Cushing". Would you happen to have a link about fixing this, or...(should I stop thinking about this)? Thanks for your time.--Catherine Cushing (talk) 10:08, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

I know I'm not Bob, but I'm going to answer anyway :P All generic signatures will have it looking like yours, so it's nothing you've done. You can create an alternate one if you like, which changes the way your signature appears. If you want to do that, and need a hand, we're more than happy to help :) stelar Talk|MCM|EBD|Scourge 11:04, 27 February 2019 (UTC)
Yep! The default appearance is "Username (talk)", where "talk" links to your talk page. On my custom signature, for example, the word "Moncrief" links to my talk page instead. The basic instructions on how to change your signature are here — but as Stelar said, if you have any questions, just let us know! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 12:21, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

Recruitment Page Problems

Dear Bob,

Something seems very off at the Recruitment page. At first I thought it was me making a typo somewhere adn then I tried to fix it....even going so far as to script the Zerger's recruitment page, but now it seems I made it worse!

Would you be so kind as to look what went wrong and perhaps fix it? I promise I will stay away from other people's pages in the next 12 years! Boertje (talk) 11:26, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi! I believe I've fixed it. Does it look correct to you now? Bob Moncrief EBDW! 11:28, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
Yup! Thanks a bunch. I think I can sleep tonight 😎👍 Boertje (talk) 20:01, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

Revive Tool Confusion

Do you know of a link I should read or...? Thank you for your time. Catherine Cushing (talk) 10:57, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Yep! You just have to re-submit the request in the same form (with your UID# & location) and select "Revived!" in the drop-down menu under "Status". I've cleared out your entry using this method (sorry for the "Checking if this works" message!) Hope that helps! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 11:50, 7 March 2019 (UTC)
Thank you very much. Catherine Cushing (talk) 22:22, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Any word about Easter?

Hi, Bob. Have you heard anything about whether there will be a supply crate drop for us this Easter? I found a crowbar, so I'm all ready to go. It sure would be great if there were. Thank you for your time. Catherine Cushing (talk) 08:42, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Unless you have some insider info, I doubt it. The last supply crate drops were more than ten years ago, in 2009. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 11:44, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
Can confirm. Sys-ops and even bureaucrats receive no special advance notice of any changes or features to the game. Only very rarely on wiki-related business (the last time in 2014 when a wiki update corrupted text on wiki pages on a large scale), and even then this is generally publicly handled on the wiki. - As there hasn't been a crate drop in 9 years, don't hold your breath for the 10th year being the charm. -- Spiderzed 21:53, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
Well, that sure is disappointing news. Do we still get any Christmas trees and decorations? Or even just snow? Catherine Cushing (talk) 08:43, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
Christmas trees (plastic ones found in malls, real trees cut down in parks), Christmas lights and tinsel are all still available during December. No snow or fog anymore unfortunately. I think masks are also available around Halloween in certain corners of certain malls (or it might be all malls, I'm not sure). stelar Talk|MCM|EBD|Scourge 09:03, 23 March 2019 (UTC)

A gift! Oh my gosh!

Wow, that is exactly what I was trying to describe. All I had been able to find was columns of raw code. This looks to be so organized already, that even I could manage to construct my idea! Thank you, Bob. That is incredibly kind. Catherine Cushing (talk) 23:56, 24 March 2019 (UTC)

It worked like a charm. And I even spelled your name properly this time! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Catherine Cushing (talk) 00:52, 25 March 2019 (UTC)
Great! I had a few minutes between my daily AP-spending and going to work, so I thought I'd whip something together. Looks like you figured out all the parameters (border color, etc) right away. Let me know if there's something else I can help with! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 02:14, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

Don't see where I'm supposed to choose category

Hi, Bob. Sorry to bother you again, but I am confused by labeling the images I upload to the UD site. I feel badly that you always end up finishing up for me. I should know how to do this. I know I'm supposed to designate a category, but I'm not sure of all the possible choices (I mean, is there a set list someplace of the 20 possible designation labels, for example, something really concrete like that?) And besides choosing the best category to sort the image into, I don't understand where I'm supposed to post the label I choose - just in the "Descriptions" box? Sorry to be so thick. Thanks for your time. Catherine Cushing (talk) 19:36, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Catherine! All the highest-level subcategories can be seen in Category:Images; I generally just file the image into one of those, unless it's of a building/location in which case I try to add it to the relevant category in Category:Location Images.
When you upload a file, you can just type [[Category:ZZZ]] (where "ZZZ" is the relevant category name) in the description box.
That said, don't worry! Almost nobody, including longtime wiki users, successfully add categories to all (or any) images they upload. I think of adding the categories as part of my regular wiki maintenance activities. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 20:21, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
One quick follow-up note: it's important to put the category in [[double brackets]], not just single — otherwise, the category won't link properly. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 02:08, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
Ah, nuts! I should have remembered the double-brackets. Sorry again, Bob. Maybe I'll get it right the next time. Catherine Cushing (talk) 05:52, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

What is the wiki protocol?

Hi, Bob. I am writing about the McMurtrie Building page. http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/The_McMurtrie_Building

What is the protocol for updating a common page like this? I haven't been able to find a reference to that procedure in the UD wiki. I'm terrified of doing a technical wiki-vandalism or some other offense out of ignorance.

I would like to correct a piece of inaccurate information. Specifically, in the fifth paragraph: "...with the building currently serving as the Black Ops HQ for the Souless Survivors."

(Appropos of nothing, it drives me nuts that they spelled "soulless" incorrectly.)

Thank you for your time. Catherine Cushing (talk) 00:53, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi Catherine!
For location pages, you're totally welcome to make edits like the above, since they're intended to be updated by the community at large. The places to tread carefully are the group pages themselves — a group is considered to control its own group page, so any edits by outsiders there can be questionable. But location pages, you can edit freely. (The group members may come and undo the update, of course, but that means that they have some other information and may also update their group page to reflect it.)
So the edit you mentioned above should be a-ok! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 00:56, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, Bob. (I'd never do anything on somebody else's page. Might try to talk to them, mention whatever the matter was, but I'd never go in and correct their spelling, etc. Maybe they did it that way on purpose; what do I know? Anyway, I have more than enough trouble to try to puzzle out on my own pages.) Catherine Cushing (talk) 02:45, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

Deletion of unused images

Hi, what is the etiquette when nominating an unused image for deletion? I want one gone especially because its gross. --Emot-siren.gif LABIA on the INTERNET Emot-siren.gif Dunell Hills Corpseman The Malton Globetrotters#24 - You rated this wiki '1'! Just post a link to it on A/SD, as long as it's been truly unused for at least two weeks. (Same is true if it's a prior revision of an image in use.) Bob Moncrief EBDW! 11:10, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
You don't even technically need to go through A/SD for unused images that are more than 2 weeks old because they are scheduled deletions. In theory you could just let a sysop know on our talk page or discord and we can do it without red tape. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION 17:49, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
That works too — I suggested A/SD because that way multiple sops are more likely to see it. If somebody DMs me individually, there's always a chance I won't notice for a day or two. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 17:51, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

Wrong category again

Hi, Bob. I suppose something like a full beer mug should have been placed in "Category: Pub Images", shouldn't it? Catherine Cushing (talk) 08:35, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

I think just "Category:Foods" is fine. But you're always welcome to edit and add more categories! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 10:24, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

Bob, I'm working on a draft page for the Mad Craskers Godson Arms pub. So I think what I'll do is sort that kind of thing (pub fare) into both categories [[Category:Food]] and [[Category:Pub Images]].

Wish I lived in England, then I could go about and take some pictures of my own. No pubs in Oregon, USA. Catherine Cushing (talk) 00:00, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Discord

Either you or some other sysop banned me on the discord server. Please cite a rule I broke there that legitimates a ban. You can't, because I didn't break any. Your rules don't have any value, as you simply ban people because you don't like them. WHITE POWDER SKINHEAD (talk) 16:44, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi there! Please familiarize yourself with the following from #resources-rules on the server:
Bob Moncrief said:
2. Off-topic discussion, especially discussion that disrupts the use of the server for on-topic purposes, may lead to the following consequences:
  • "timeout", in which the server becomes read-only for that user
  • permaban
There is no specific scale of escalations. Users should assume that violations will lead to permaban every time; timeouts and temporary bans are at my discression.
    3. Familiarize yourself with the Discord TOS. If you violate it, you're out and your messages will be reported.
Posting recipes for illicit drug manufacturing is illegal in the jurisdiction of the owner of the server (me) and thereby violates Discord's TOS against illegal activity. In addition, what you posted is both off-topic and blatantly disruptive, and therefore violates the above. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 17:09, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Also I can't believe I misspelled "discretion". I've corrected the error on the server, but I leave my shame here for posterity. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 17:11, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
I googled that recipe in under 1 minute, dumped it in google translate and posted it on discord. And there are numerous off topic messages on the discord that didn't result in bans which brings me back to my first point "your rules don't have any value, you simply ban people because you don't like them." WHITE POWDER SKINHEAD (talk) 17:29, 9 April 2019 (UTC)
Just because something's widely available doesn't mean it's legal. And different sites and platforms have different policies towards acceptable content.
Quite a few people have received warnings (by private message) or temporary timeouts for off-topic posting. I am a capricious discord dictator, yes, and decide upon my own whim when something deserves outright banning. If you have a problem with that, you should have left the server as soon as you joined it. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 18:45, 9 April 2019 (UTC)

You're talking to a fascist, man. A neo-nazi. The most notorious one out there. Did you really think I was going to have a problem with dictatorship..? Non-aryan guys are even dumber than they look.
Now that I've established the fact you aren't able to form a semi-comprehensive thought, I think it's useless to elaborate on the contradiction in your stream of thoughts by mentioning that you wouldn't have banned any other Discord member for posting said recipe or any few offline messages whatsoever. WHITE POWDER SKINHEAD (talk) 02:08, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
"The most notorious one out there"? I think I know what that means.
I take "non-Aryan" as a compliment, since I often get confused for one irl. The Vikings and English, those esteemed Germanic-language peoples, both did horrible things to my ancestors for centuries — I can tell you all about it sometime if you ask.
And for posterity: I'd have banned anybody for posting the aforementioned recipe. I'm capricious, but consistently capricious. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 04:06, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi Auri! The normal requirements to apply for a sysop are listed at the promotions page. One of the listed requirements is having been an editor on the wiki for six months or so; while not a hard and fast requirement, this is generally the amount of time it takes to learn the ropes of the wiki as well as see the admin pages in action. If you have any questions about wiki culture or procedure, let me know! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 02:19, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Sure thing! Plus, if I do well, you have the majority of making me an admin anyway, seems that I presume you are a bureaucrat. But, for now, I am here to ensure that this wiki is what it should be, a user-made encyclopedia, and not a playground for vandals. With me here as the most awesome editor, this wiki will be reaching a much higher standard. --Auri (Express yourself, be heard!) 02:25, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Bob, I now know which articles I can edit. The ones without the forward slash. Thanks to Stelar! --Auri (Express yourself, be heard!) 03:01, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Some pages without a forward slash still are best not to edit, e.g. group pages that you don't own. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 03:03, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, it would say Group:. --Auri (Express yourself, be heard!) 03:05, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
No, groups don't have a specific prefix. e.g. Malton Taoist Temple is a group but has no prefix. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 03:07, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Wow, this is harder than I thought! Okay, if I accidentially edit a page you think it is a group, just revert it. If the pages that I edit are not in the group section, then good, leave it be. I don't do this on purpose, you know. I just want to fix grammatical errors. --Auri (Express yourself, be heard!) 03:09, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Normally you can tell what kind of page something is from the content of the page, or sometimes from the categories listed at the bottom, if that helps. Repeatedly editing group pages that aren't yours can get you in trouble even if it's unintentional, because it would indicate you can't tell what kind of page is a group page. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 03:11, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Okay, so it will say either, group, user, etc in the categories? --Auri (Express yourself, be heard!) 03:15, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
User pages are always "User:", group pages have the name of the group in the mainspace. So the ones you had edited (the Bob reversed) had the group name before the slash. stelar Talk|MCM|EBD|Scourge 03:17, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Danger Reports

I suppose I should probably say something since I've been changing TONS of your edits. I've been updating year+ old stuff to "unknown", with the intention of shortening that down to 10>8>6 months if I ever get caught up. Still not sure I've caught all the 2018 stuff yet tho (is there a way to search that?) EthrDemon (talk) 22:02, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Unfortunately there's no way to manually search it. Back when the MDU was active I would check every status and mark it unknown on a five-month cycle, but that meant manually opening every building page in the city — a time-consuming process, as I'm sure you've found out. There used to be a bot run by The Rooster that marked statuses unknown automatically, but he hasn't been active since 2011 (it may be possible to code a new one, but I am not tech-savvy enough). Bob Moncrief EBDW! 16:51, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
Even a basic template could work, something that allows you to go to say, add {{2020}} to all updates you make in 2020, and then in the future someone can go through all status updates that link to that. Have one for every year etc. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION 22:28, 4 February 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, maybe something like that is workable. It would be great if the template could default to unknown if the report is past a certain age. A magic word? We got things like {{REVISIONDAY}} to work with, for example. But we don't have things like if functions / conditionals... so I'm not sure. We'd need parser functions. Perhaps there's a way to sorta "override" the templates semi-manually. If it were June, for example, you change something in the danger report template itself so that anything in April (for example) gets marked as unknown. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:28, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
I just tested it out on my sandbox and I think one can do something like [[Category:LastUpdate/{{REVISIONYEAR}}]] which should categorise the page in the year the last revision was made to it... unfortunately adding that to all the existing pages is going to set the last revision as now, so it would only be useful going forward, unless there is a trick to work around that (maybe through a template they already all transclude?) --OrangeTHIEF (talk) 10:02, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
Putting it in the BuildingStatus template puts all pages that use that template into the categories: the DangerReports, but also the building pages, BICs, etc. Not sure of another template that wouldn't have the same effect. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 15:11, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
Possibly we could use Template:UpdateDR - from a quick look I think that only gets used/transcluded on actual User:DangerReport/x pages (and a few other user pages). If we put [[Category:{{ROOTPAGENAME}}{{REVISIONYEAR}}]] in the UpdateDR template, we end up with categories looking like DangerReport2018, DangerReport2019, DangerReport2020. ROOTPAGENAME will defend against any transclusions of UpdateDR in places other than User:DangerReport, as while they will still get categorised, the category will be named differently due to the differing root page name. --OrangeTHIEF (talk) 12:15, 6 February 2020 (UTC)
I've gone ahead and made this change (with a couple of tweaks). My hope is that the template update should cascade through soon and then we'll have some nice by-year categories. It should be pretty easy to undo my attempt if not! --OrangeTHIEF (talk) 00:16, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
Seems to be working, but only the ones currently being updated are filling in (from my view). Job queue is at 6008, so I assume ~5500 of those are filling in the categories. Bob Moncrief EBDW! 16:08, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
I've used the purge API and worked through the suburbs, all the categories are now populated - so now all the buildings last updated in 2018 are easy to see! Some details on discord if anyone is interested. --OrangeTHIEF (talk) 17:33, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
For reference the categories are linked as following: Category:DangerReport 2011, Category:DangerReport 2014, Category:DangerReport 2018, Category:DangerReport 2019, Category:DangerReport 2020. It's cool how some haven't been updated in 9 years. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION 22:27, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
I feel like from a practicality point of view, it would be best to consider this as a feature that will only work from here on. Don't worry about past statuses. Too much effort and probably impossible. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION 01:00, 6 February 2020 (UTC)

Hey Bob. I'm wanting to update some of the Malton DEM leadership pages and I noticed that it is using code to pull the information from somewhere else (DEMpos). I dont want to screw anything up. Can you point me to the correct pages to update? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DTTL (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.

Hmm! It looks like the DEMpos refers to Template:DEMpos. On that page you can replace any given listing, and it should update on Department of Emergency Management/Contact (and anywhere else DEMpos is used). Hope that helps! Bob Moncrief EBDW! 01:21, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome; really nice of you to say hi :) Project Welcome itself seems like an awesome imitative.

I've played on and off throughout the years, and got back into UD recently with some new characters. Originally, I was providing intel to a group on TRP statuses and such, but realised I could help more than just them with that info. Hopefully the updates are up to scratch!

If there's anything else newb-friendly I can help with on the wiki, feel free to point me towards it. Otherwise, I'll content myself with DangerReport updates for now.

See you around!

Reporting Characters

Hey Bob, a quick question, a survivor just destroyed my generator is there any way to report him? And I have no idea about his whereabouts. If you know how to report, just report this character " Garett Hammond ". Thanks! Fury'54 (talk) 06:16, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

Destroying generators isn't against the game rules, hope this helps. --ooɹd ǝʌɐɥ sʇɐoƃ sʍoʅʚ ǝɹɔuoɯ uǝɹɐʞWe're going to destroy everything, and you can't stop usYou rated this wiki '1'! Great job, go hog wild!|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| 06:43, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
