:::::::Boxy got it in one: We delete pages which reduce the quality of the wiki. Yes, deleting images does free up space but it is actually largely inconsequential; Servers of today have such a vast amount of space that it woudl be very difficult for us to fill it up any time soon. This doesn't mean that we should necessarily be deliberately wasteful but, at the same time, we can certainly afford to keep images around and simply purge them every few months.--{{User:The General/sig}} 11:55, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

This page is for the request of page undeletions within the Urban Dead wiki. Due to concerns about loss of data, the ability to undelete pages is restricted to system operators. As such, regular users will need to request an undeletion from a system operator. For consistency and accountability, system operators also adhere to the guidelines listed here. Note: Images cannot be restored, they are permanently gone when deleted.

Guidelines for Undeletion Requests

All Undeletion Requests must contain the following information in order to be considered:

  • A link to the deletion request in question. Preferably bolded for visibility.
  • A reason for undeletion. This should be short and to the point.
  • A signed datestamp. This can be easily done by adding ~~~~ to the end of your request.

Any undeletion request that does not contain these three pieces of information will not be considered, and will be removed by a system operator.

Undeletions may only be granted if the user provides a convincing reason as to why the page should be resurrected, or if the page was deleted as a result of a system operators abuse.

Once the undeletion request has been entered, the request shall remain on this page, where it will be reviewed by a member of the Sysop team, and action taken accordingly. Once action has been taken, the request will be moved into Recent Actions, along with a comment from the system operator who determined the action take. After a week has passed with the target page in Recent Actions, it can be moved to the Archive.

Mall Alt logo images

there may be more that have been deleted, if someone wouldn't mind checking through for all the Mallname-mall-log.png and Mallname-mall-logo-alt.png images and restoring them that would be dandy. I'm gonna make a page Mall Images that keeps a copy of all of these coz i'm sick of this happening.--xoxo 03:38, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, can't undelete images. You'll need to bug the person who uploaded those in the first place.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 03:40, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
fucking hell. This has already happened before and i tracked the guy down and he's changed comp or some shit. Seriously can people be a bit more careful when they do this? Those pictures are awesome character for the wiki and i'd rather 10000 unused images laying around then have them deleted.--xoxo 03:41, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Okay we're all good. Those were surplus pngs, we have jpgs of all of them, phew!--xoxo 03:50, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

This should never have happened, unless Cheese knew that they were duped elsewhere. Just because it's a scheduled deletion, doesn't mean you should do so automatically. Look at the images first, if they're an valuable part of the wiki, find out why they're unused -- boxy talkteh rulz 09:25 11 November 2008 (BST)

To be fair it has happened before during one of my mass deletion sprees but I think we only ended up losing one and getting it replaced later.--Karekmaps?! 23:42, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Funny thing, might i add. I complained at cheese for having deleted these images, only to remove the complaint when i realized they were the surplus ones. Second funny thing: J3D is asking for images to be undeleted, while i made it very clear that image deletions are permanent in nubis misconduct case. Yeah, he might not be interested in that case, but still this validates my point that image deletion is WORSE than template deletion, and the second one should be the one being schedulled for deletion when unused, not the first. --People's Commissar Hagnat talk mod 01:37, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Do we need something like this? -- boxy talkteh rulz 01:57 12 November 2008 (BST)
Mall Images does that. And i'm not asking for these to be undeleted anymore because they were surplus and i've since found out you can't undelete images. I think sysops going trigger happy and deleting every image is a worry though, theres just no need. Also boxy i think its better if things like that are in the community namespace as opposed to userspace.--xoxo 02:03, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
If it was implemented, it would be moved into the UDWiki namespace, but we're just discussing it -- boxy talkteh rulz 02:14 12 November 2008 (BST)
Oh boxy i just actually looked at that page, i don't think it's really necessary, people will just have to learn that if they want something kept they should make a user sub page to store it on.--xoxo 02:06, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
Indeed. Perhaps it is too much, but if the community wants to be able to watch out for useful images that are about to go, this is the only way to do it -- boxy talkteh rulz 02:14 12 November 2008 (BST)
Yeah, it'd be better if it was a week though.--xoxo 02:38, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

BTW: It should be possible to undelete images if Kevan updates the wiki software. In version 1.11.0+ image undeletion is enable by default.--The General T Sys U! P! F! 15:11, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

I have no idea how many times we've asked him to do that again in the last year. Maybe it's time for another policy vote or something.--Karekmaps?! 16:39, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
Possibly. It can actually be enabled in the current version by a simple configuration change but if Kevan mess with the settings then it would be nice if he could update the wiki at the same time.--The General T Sys U! P! F! 18:27, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
It's like the dark ages around here...--xoxo 01:08, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
That means that the images stay on the servers regardless of them being deleted or not, at least until the next purge, I assume. The idea is to remove them to free up space, isn't it? Sort of defeats the purpose unless they're only kept temporarily (a week or two) before going altogether -- boxy talkteh rulz 01:15 13 November 2008 (BST)
Well pages do the same thing yet we persist with speedy deleting and deleting pages that some people find useful so i would say the point is not in fact to free up space but to just tidy this shop up a bit.--xoxo 01:17, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Images take up a lot more space than text -- boxy talkteh rulz 01:21 13 November 2008 (BST)
That doesn't explain at all why we bother deleting text. If it's gonna sit around til the next purge it might as well sit around where it's visible (unless of course it's blank or no one wants it)--xoxo 01:22, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
deleting images free server space. Deleting pages free article pages (therefore others can start anew on these pages) --People's Commissar Hagnat talk mod 01:39, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
That's a pretty weak explanation. If that were the reason we could save deletions for when someone specifically wanted that page. Check out the pages on A/D and served A/D at the moment and see how many that applies to, i count 2, maybe 3 at most.--xoxo 01:44, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Good god, way to sidetrack a useful discussion. We delete pages to keep the wiki's signal to noise ratio up. Useful pages are kept, while blank, ridiculous, or just plain wrong pages are deleted so that people arn't following links to useless or poorly duplicated information -- boxy talkteh rulz 02:13 13 November 2008 (BST)
haha, thanks. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of your concern. Anyway back to useful images being deleted.--xoxo 02:24, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Eastwick Drive

Eastwick Drive is a locations page that was wiped by a n00b and should never have been speedied -- boxy talkteh rulz 22:50 7 November 2008 (BST)

Oh, and it's talk page too, please -- boxy talkteh rulz 22:51 7 November 2008 (BST)
Done.--The General T Sys U! P! F! 15:03, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

DDR

This page was deleted by Karek without following the correct procedure. It was under vote at A/D as it had received a keep vote on A/SD. This is a breech in policy and the page should be restored immediately to allow the correct procedures for deletion to be followed, thanks.--xoxo 13:23, 25 October 2008 (BST)

Denied.--– Nubis NWO 13:55, 25 October 2008 (BST)
Why? What basis did you make the decision on?--CyberRead240 14:05, 25 October 2008 (BST)

The Deadites

It's got a few incoming links, and was crit 12ed. If the page had a decent amount of content, I'd like to see it restored. If there's not much on the page, then don't bother. --PdeqTalk* 19:48, 26 July 2008 (BST)

Done.--Karekmaps?! 20:42, 26 July 2008 (BST)

Malton Inhumane Society

According to wanted pages there are 253 links to this page. I know it was Crit 7'ed back in March but that is a hell of a lot of red links. Could we restore just the final edit to sort the links? -- Cheese 21:34, 6 July 2008 (BST)

All the links seem to be just from User:Airborne88's sig. --PdeqTalk* 21:53, 6 July 2008 (BST)
It was a link he was spamming on user pages, and deleted less than a week after he had started doing it, which was right around when he first joined the wiki.--Karekmaps?! 14:24, 8 July 2008 (BST)
Ah. That would explain why they're still there even though his template sig is different now. He must have had it on his preferences sig before he templated it. -- Cheese 00:47, 11 July 2008 (BST)

Template:ELT-map

Template:ELT-map (Logs)

I can't seem to find out what criteria 10 is or was. I've been wanting to restore Light Map of Dulston. Dr Cory Bjornson 00:04, 5 July 2008 (BST)

here is the request, crit 10 is unused templates. If you don't use it, it will be deleted again -- boxy talki 14:43 8 July 2008 (BST)

Gangsta Business

An old crit 12 group, useful content linked to from the Eastonwood page. I wouldn't include the last two edits in the undelete though -- boxy talki 07:27 15 June 2008 (BST)

Undeleted only the very last valid revision for the page. Since all the edits were back in 2006 i dont see the need for all 190 or so revisions to be presented. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 07:54, 15 June 2008 (BST)

Peppardville Defense Force

A lot of pages link there. If the page had a reasonable amount of content, it'd be nice to see it restored. --PdeqTalk* 23:51, 11 May 2008 (BST)

Restored -- boxy talki 02:52 12 May 2008 (BST)

Animal Liberation Front

disbanded gorup, must be undeleted as we don't have crit 12 for a reason. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 20:16, 15 April 2008 (BST)

It was done through deletions rather than Speedy so Crit 12 wasn't used. :/ Dunno about this one. -- Cheese 20:17, 15 April 2008 (BST)
Was voted to be deleted on A/D. Dis umpossible?--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 20:17, 15 April 2008 (BST)
I disagree. The page received a fair vote and the community decided to delete it. But if the group has reactivated, then it should be undeleted. --ZsL 21:25, 15 April 2008 (BST)
Why them, Hagnat? They don't link from anywhere (except deletions/undeletions) and the page is a bit of a stub really -- boxy talki 10:16 16 April 2008 (BST)
Not restored. --ZsL 18:03, 21 April 2008 (BST)

Wiki Monitors

Short lived wiki group in the early '07. Still have some references on the wiki, specially it's following group. Talk page and templates inclded on the undeletion request. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 17:21, 20 April 2008 (BST)

Restored, I have no clue why it was deleted in the first place but it was relevant and is a portion of the wiki's history.--Karekmaps?! 19:39, 20 April 2008 (BST)
It was requested for deletion by it's author because it was causing too much drama -- boxy talki 12:00 25 April 2008 (BST)
Well, it isnt creating drama, and, being part of this wiki history, it's better if we salvage it from forgetfulness. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 13:03, 25 April 2008 (BST)
You missed a spot. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 19:51, 20 April 2008 (BST)
Did I get it? Was that it? --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 00:16, 21 April 2008 (BST)
