20071112 Colored Inventory Options

Suggestion description
I find it hard to find items in my inventory because all the buttons look the same and they are arranged in whatever random order I found them. This can make it hard to keep track of what supplies I have.

I propose adding a checkbox to your inventory to toggle on (and off) colored inventory buttons. Buttons would be bordered with different colors (otherwise remaining white with red text) depending on the type of item.

One possible color scheme is:

  • First Aid Kits: Red
  • Guns: Black
  • Ammunition: Gray
  • Melee Weapons: Brown
  • Syringes: Blue
  • NT Scanner: Light Blue
  • Generator: Yellow
  • Fuel: Pale Yellow
  • Transmitters: Copper
  • Radios: Light Copper
  • GPS: Green

etc.

Of course this is just a possibility. Pretty much any colors would work fine, this is just so they stand out on a visual search (though the colors make sense for some items, yellow for generators for instance). Kevan might also want to consider letting people assign colors of their own choice to specific items but that would require a much more complex interface in the profile settings page.

Either way, colors are a bright idea. No pun intended.

Okay, intended.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep It's magically delicious. --Jon Pyre 22:28, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Change/Keep - First Aid Kits should be pink.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 22:30, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
CHANGED Weak keep - Okay, unlike the combiner suggestions, this is not so bad. Low server demand (?) and not intrusive, and if you allow us to set the colours, totally optional, i.e. do not have to use it, leave everything default. So why not? --WanYao 22:37, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Keep Not all of us have those little add-on things.--SeventythreeTalk 22:45, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Keep Good idea. Not much else I can say about it. However, if you are looking for an even better solution, check out the Urban Dead Toolbar. I use it, and I think it is great. --Sic Re Mortem 23:12, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Keep I like colors!!!!!!!111111--Darth LumisT! A! E! FU! U 01:39, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  6. Keep 3 things: 1) UD Toolbar make the page load, and then load again to change everything, yet still doesn't display the inventory right (Toolbox confuses it) 2) All of the inventory organizers I've found break your inventory (Display nothing), and 3) I'm too lazy to figure out how to make a Organizer myself. This is as close to an organizer I could hope for at this moment. ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 02:03, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Keep nothing truly wrong with it--Zach016 02:15, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. Keep - whether it's by colour, or just allowing the user to sort out their own inventory, I don't care - but the inventory is one of the worst things about the interface - and it should be fixed. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 09:05, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  9. Keep - Color-coding != sorting. Would be useful. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 10:35, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  10. Pretty colors! --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 10:43, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  11. Keep - I don't like it that much(weak keep), but the spam-people are being a-holes, so KEEP KEEP KEEP. UCFSD 17:13, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Vote changed. Karek has a point, amongst all the catty-hisses... that this colour scheme thing actually DETRACTS from what you want the suggestion to do. Yeah... However, all the bitches who say "GET UDTOOLBAR!!"... Lissen, not everyone can use that. For various reasons. Nor should they be required to import an external app for a function as basic as this. And -- inventory without an organiser is a gigantic bloody, mess, VERY hard to deal with. But... maybe if you played something other than zombies, you would understand, yeah. --WanYao 02:51, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - Urgh, I don't want colours assulting me every time I log on. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 10:54, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Re Hence, optional. Besides, different colors already exist to signify different kinds of buildings. Why not items as well? --Jon Pyre 16:12, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill- A zombie apocolypse is no place for a rainbow. --Druuuuu 19:57, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Kill- Too confusing, it won't help. The man 20:33, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. 'Change -Just let people sort their inventory's. Was that already suggested?
  6. As directly above BoboTalkClown 01:34, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Kill- Sorry. You really should check out the UD toolbar or ask someone to make a firefox extension if you want to see this implemented. Boojamon 11.07, 17 November 2007 (GMT)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Dupe probably, Spam definitely - Crap like this has been suggested before, many times by you. Sorting inventory is sorting inventory, it's been done, as for color, hell no. I don't want to see a rainbow of shit every time I log onto one of my characters, it's distracting, annoying, and detracts from the whole purpose of this suggestion. That and it's just toggle spam, if you need to suggest it with the ability to turn it off you shouldn't have suggested it in the first place.--Karekmaps?! 22:40, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Changing to a dupe vote now that a link has been provided.--Karekmaps?! 21:16, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Spam UD Toolbar. Omega 22:52, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Spam - As Karek. --Steakfish 01:49, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Spam - As karek. Rainbows dont fit with the interface as well. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 02:49, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Spam - Somewheeeere... oooover the raaaiinbooow... --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! 03:20, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  6. Dupe - For the most part, you have already made this suggestion. --Z. slay3r Talk  14:51, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Spam/Dupe - As Karek and Zombie slay3r --Ryiis 14:56, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. Dupe ‬‮Dupe ‭‬‭ ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 05:18, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
  9. Spam- First off don't assume that people want to go through million check boxes in their settings menu in order to get rid of the crap that you want implemented everyday, Secondly this is a terrible suggestion, try actually thinking of, and polishing an idea before you bring it here. You are trying to overload this game with just plain stupid flavor changes that are either: utterly useless, or amazingly annoying so please stop and think.-- BKM 18:51, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
