Zombies With Memories of Life Can Open Doors From Inside

Found to be a Dupe with 3 Dupe votes. --Funt Solo 02:02, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Detect Ransack

Timestamp: Jon Pyre 01:24, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Type: Improvement
Scope: All
Description: Lit buildings are detectable from adjacent squares, I suggest doing the same with ransacked buildings. You'd be able to see the broken windows, doors, and clouds of dust from a little bit away. This would prove useful to survivors when deciding whether to risk going to a building or not, and would nicely balance out zombies being able to tell what buildings are lit around them. While a lit building is highlighted yellow perhaps ransacked buildings could be highlighted dark gray instead.

  1. Author Useful. Fair. --Jon Pyre 01:25, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  2. Cool Saves zombies AP more than survivors free running (& cleaning up ransack messes) all over the damn place. But truly, the ransack dedicated zombie needs to not have to waste AP going in and out of every single damn building to check on them. Perhaps the ransacked buildings have broken furniture hanging out of the windows.. indicating less than ideal barricading conditions? MrAushvitz Canadianflag-sm.jpg 02:45, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  3. EXCELLENT - Whats everyone got against this suggestion? Just becuase it isn't that life wise realistic in urban dead lighting and ransacking are equal important levels in building levels so in those terms it makes sense. Ransack is the most powerful thing in the game other than 300+ zombie hordes, but they are both important. I think the colour black would be better than grey. This time through the game maybe the survivors and zombies have learnt to recognise the difference from the outside. Seems plausable to me. --MarieThe Grove 19:28, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  4. Keep - While not a ground-breaking change, I think this could really help lower-level survivors and zombies alike, and just makes good sense. --MorthBabid 19:47, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  5. KEEP: I like not having to waste the time, or AP, getting to ransaked buildings. Plus it works for both sides. --Tahoe 05:17, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Kill Votes
Against Votes here

  1. Kill - Anything I would say has been already mentioned by Funt's vote below. --Reaper with no name 01:55, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  2. Uhhh... considering zombies can get feeding groan, which has a much better active radius, this is of no help to zombies at all. On the flip-side, it means every time a zombie ransacks a building, survivors from five or six buildings have a chance to notice it happening, and come over and assist. This is a ridiculously huge buff to survivors; who'll be attracted like wasps to jam. I guess you could change it so it's only visible from outdoors, which will reduce that effect a little, but then I'll probably go into the other reasons (which still don't match Funt's other reasons, sorry dude: Infinitely regenerating windows that become smashed on ransack are just as sensible as infinitely regenerating furniture for forming barricades). --ExplodingFerret 03:03, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  3. Kill - As I understand it, ransack affects the interior of a building. How can somebody see the difference between a normal and a ransacked building one block away? -- Nob666 10:50, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  4. Kill - For the reasons stated above. --Carl Panzram 18:30, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  5. Kill - Not only does it not make any sense, it's way too powerful. --Joe O'Wood 18:55, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  6. kill - I have to say that if you can't see barricades from 1 square away, there is no reason to be able to see ransacking either. The Mad Axeman 10:25, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
  7. Kill - If humans want to be able to detect a ransacked building, I think they should be unable to free-run through ransacked buildings. Chronolith

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Pickled Onion - no. I imagine that most of the windows are permanently smashed, and that most buildings look a little worse for wear from the outside. This would be most useful for zombies, not survivors, who could tell what buildings they didn't need to attack. Really, trying to pass this off as a survivor bonus, or even as reasonably logical (within the game world) is daft. --Funt Solo 01:33, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Re Still it isn't unreasonable that you could tell a trashed building from an intact one from outside. And I think this would primarily help survivors, warning them what buildings are taken before they free run into them. --Jon Pyre 02:07, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
      • Re - Are you on glue? It's a wrecked city - every single building is going to look trashed from the outside. Ransacking is something that happens indoors. And this would be one hell of a lot more helpful to zombies. Frankly, I think you're being either incredibly dense or deliberately disingenuous to claim otherwise. --Funt Solo 02:14, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  2. Light is visible because it's... light. It travels. You can't see a building description until you're in front of that building, therefore you shouldn't be able to tell whether its windows are broken etc. Rheingold 02:12, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
    • 'Re If you can see that a building has lit windows from across the street that means you can see the windows. If you can see the windows you can tell if they've been ripped out of their frames. --Jon Pyre 02:22, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  3. SPAM Actually I run down to the Harrdware store everytime I repair a building, new windows, new flooring, even plumbing and electrical suplies. Oh and don't forget the blinds and wallpaper. Conndrakamod T CFT 03:33, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Re Actually according to the ransack repair description...yeah, pretty much. --Jon Pyre 05:11, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  4. Spam You can't see barricade levels either.--Pesatyel 06:08, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  5. Spam - Funt has pretty much hit the hammer on the head.--Mr yawn Scotland flag.JPG 08:55, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  6. Spam - Yeah, I really find it hard to swallow the idea of detecting ransack from outside a building, although I would love this for my zombie character. --Rgon 14:31, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  7. Trash - It's a freaking zombie apocalypse! The whole city is pracitcally ransacked already. --Officer Johnieo 18:16, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Distant Billboards

Timestamp: IrradiatedCorpse Atom sig.png 01:33, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Type: Improvement.
Scope: All players & Survivors with Binoculars.
Description: The new billboards are only readable if standing in the billboard's square. As billboards are large objects and costly to spray (10 AP), I propose allowing them to be read at a distance. If there is a billboard on an adjacent square, all survivors and zombies would get a message of the kind:

A large billboard at <street name here> advertises <flavorful filler here>. Somebody has spraypainted <message here>.

Furthermore, distant billboard messages would appear in the same fashion when viewed through binoculars.

  1. Author Keep - I let the recent addition play out for the customary few days, I think this improves the usefulness of billboards with a sensible alteration. --IrradiatedCorpse Atom sig.png 01:33, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  2. Keep Screw realism in this case. This is a game about zombies. It takes the some amount of effort to fire a gun as it does to lift a dead body and dump it out a window. Being able to see a billboard from every direction is fine be me. This is a fun and useful game addition. Not "Microsoft Realistic Billboard Simulator". --Jon Pyre 02:10, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  3. Makes sense. The advantage of billboard vs graffiti is that it's more permanent and (should be) more visible. Rheingold 02:14, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  4. Yeah! It should be visible with binoculars as well.. but that's fine, long range streets messages it is! MrAushvitz Canadianflag-sm.jpg 02:43, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Re - Yes, they should and this is already part of the suggestion, see the last line. --IrradiatedCorpse Atom sig.png 02:46, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Re CNR (Mr A pimp slaps... himself) I hate it when people can't read! Even if they're me! Thanks.. looks perfect, my bad! MrAushvitz Canadianflag-sm.jpg 02:49, 5 November 2006 (UTC) {{PSP}}
  5. C'est bon- I like it. It makes sense I would be able to see billboards more than one friggin block away.--Grigori 03:07, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  6. I haven't even seen one in-game yet, but then again I think my brain edits out graffiti for me, so I probably walked (or lurched) right past some of 'em. Sounds sane. --ExplodingFerret 03:13, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  7. Keep The impact of the "Bigger" Billboard makes sense to be able to see it further away... Conndrakamod T CFT 03:28, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  8. Keep Message to Funt-Yeah, this game is over-flowing with realism. Just like how a survivor can't tell the differnce between a dying person and a perfectly healthy survivor, until they've gotten XP from spray-painting schools and mansions.--Labine50 MHG|MEMS 05:01, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  9. Logical. I mean what is the point of a billboard as opposed to normal tagging? As for the "you can't see it in every direction" complaint, simple, just have them only viewable from two directions.--Pesatyel 06:11, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  10. Makes sense Thats why we have billboards in the first place, so we can see what they say from many blocks away. Otherwise they'd just be signposts.Schizmo 06:59, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  11. Keep - An excellect suggestion, and as for Funt's problem, that can easily be remedied in many ways, the simplest being that the billboards are magical... What? If we have zombies, why can't we have magic billboards? --Wikidead 08:54, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  12. Keep - It's all been said already. --Karloth vois RR 12:47, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  13. Keep - Makes sense, and I think I can suspend disbelief on the issue of billboard orientation. --Rgon 14:28, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  14. Keep - If you just used 10 AP, you should get more for your effort. --Officer Johnieo 18:19, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  15. Keep - As everyone else.--Canuhearmenow Hunt! 18:19, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  16. Keep - otherwise what is different between billboards and graffiti? --MarieThe Grove 19:31, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  17. Keep - Makes sense. --MorthBabid 19:48, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  18. Keep - As has been said, makes sense. Perhaps they're quadruple billboards. That would make sense with 10 AP.--J Muller 20:05, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  19. Keep - I like the idea, although I suppose that billboards and graffiti are largely ignored, they are sometimes handy --JohnMorden 20:39, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
  20. Keep - Makes sense in some way, bigger can be seen from further away, also it seems fair because of the added 9 ap to spray it. - Whitehouse 23:56, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Kill Votes
Against Votes here

  1. Kill - For the second time in less than 5 minutes, I find myself agreeing entirely with what Funt's vote says. --Reaper with no name 01:57, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  2. Kill - God damn you Funt! You keep taking away what i was gunna say! Anyway, i do like the idea, but the billboard should only be read from certain directions that face the billboards front. Like south-east, south, and south-west or something similiar.--Mr yawn Scotland flag.JPG 08:59, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  3. Kill - but only because the billboard would only be legible from one direction. --Carl Panzram 18:33, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Re - If it proves necessary, I'll submit a revision with a simplistic orientation feature. --IrradiatedCorpse Atom sig.png 02:04, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
  4. I would LOVE to be able to see billboards from a distance, but I'm unseasy with the idea of reading them from a distance. I still hope this passes though, 'cause it annoys me I can't find any of those damn billboards in my suburb... -.- -Certified=InsaneQuébécois 20:21, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

Spam - Unless it's a magical billboard that faces in all directions at once, then this defies logic. --Funt Solo 01:39, 5 November 2006 (UTC) And JP - how about a nice cup of shut the fuck up? I'm not arguing for absolute realism, you sarcy twat - just a modicum of internal game logic. --Funt Solo 02:23, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Re - Fair enough, I considered this issue. I was picturing these billboards as the tall free standing billboards in urban areas that often have two sides. If a survivor climbs all the way up there, he can spray both sides. So only rather narrow lines of sight parallel with the board pose this problem. I thought that small enough to neglect to avoid added complication. --IrradiatedCorpse Atom sig.png 01:58, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Re - Removing my vote. Clearly, this is a popular idea, and whilst I won't enjoy the resultant spam, or like the idea of magical billboards, it's something that will do my characters no harm. Having them only visible from certain directions would be an absolute bitch to code (that much I do know). Abstaining, then. --Funt Solo 11:00, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
  1. Spam - I have a feeling that billboards would be the last thing I'd worry about during a zombie invasion. --Joe O'Wood 02:27, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Re - I guess I have to stress... Billboards are already part of the game. If you don't like them or think they are not needed, please just ignore them. This alteration only serves to improve their usefulness. --IrradiatedCorpse Atom sig.png 02:40, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
      • Re - Wouldn't that get annoying, seeing "lol zeds suck" everywhere? Spam vote stands. --Joe O'Wood 19:09, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
        • Re - If that is the case, is this any different from grafitti tags? Some are rubbish, but also some is used to good effect by groups, even if just for recruiting, morale, propaganda and putting off the enemy. --JohnMorden 20:39, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Dumping Bodies Change

Author Removed I've decided to wait and see how the new mechanic plays out. I'm still pessimistic about it, though. --Pinpoint 05:10, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
