Video Assignment # 1: Steven Truscott
*http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Crime/2011/09/15/18691046.html

The video we watched was about a boy by the name of Steven Truscott who was a convicted murderer at the age of 14. Originally he was sentenced to death (1959) however due to public outcry his sentence was changed to 10 years in prison.
The person Steven supposedly murdered was a 13 year old girl by the name of Lynne Harper. Lynne Harper was found dead in a woodland near a road that Steven and her had supposedly been biking along, it was a later discovered that she had also been raped. Stevens’s story is that he was giving Lynne a ride somewhere on his bicycle, he had passed this woodland and continued down the road and dropped her off at a highway not far from a bridge. When he dropped her off he proceeded to return the other way, he had stopped on the bridge to look back and seen her enter a Grey car. He then returned to the school. When the body was found it was not long before they had taken Steven into custody as a suspect. The police interrogated Steven for approximately seven hours and he had no legal representation. By the end of the seven hours the police was convinced Steven had raped and murdered Lynn. The medical examiner who determined at what time Lynne died later stated that he may have been off by several hours. This alone creates a huge margin of error and should have presented a large amount of doubt as to who could have killer her.
Throughout the film it discussed the evidence and a variety of scenarios. The amount of scenarios gradually increased as it introduced more and more witnesses of people who had seen Steven and Lynne. Most if not all the witnesses were children and often there was inconsistencies with the stories of 2 or more witnesses. This made them largely unreliable to be used in conjunction with the unreliable time of death as given by the medical examiner.
Surprisingly enough there were several previous sex offenders in the area where the murder occurred, one person in particular who was a member of the armed forces had a car that was practically identical to the description Steven gave of the car he seen Lynne get into.
Later on when he was in jail Steven said that he allowed himself to be subjected to the use of drugs such as LSD and other “truth serums” to get him to tell them the truth.

The video in general I believe was well done. I greatly appreciated the fact that they did filmed recreations of the events that may have happened based on what some of the witnesses said. Doing this as well as showing overhead maps of the area greatly assisted as a visual aid to allow the viewers to better understand what may or may not have happened. Although I must say some of the repeated reels of the recreations got rather annoying.
In regards to the events that transpired I was largely surprised that Steven was the first suspect, surely with known sex offenders in the area they would be better suspects. Furthermore the fact that Steven was relentlessly interrogated for seven hours straight and was not legally represented was just appalling. Comparing those actions to that of present day there are huge differences in what was allowed and what was not. Even more, it’s quite shocking that the first sentence they thought of was to be hanged. It’s almost surreal when you compare those sorts of things to the current legal system in Canada. On top of all this he stayed in prison for 10 years. Assuming he’s innocent that’s 10 years of his life that was basically taken away and that he’ll never be able to take back. Sure he was compensated 6.7 million dollars but it’s hard to truly feel compensated for such a large amount of things that were taken away from you. Furthermore even when he was out of prison this past came back to haunt him as it made life difficult not only for him but for his family. One thing I believe they should have gone into more depth in the video is the actual trial of Steven. I was more interested in what was said in the trial and what sort of defense Steven lawyers had as going over and over all the possibilities got rather tiresome.

Overall the video was interesting to a certain degree however it wasn’t all that interesting. In some cases I believe they could have been more clear in explaining the different scenarios based off of eye witness accounts as they seemed to be jumping around quite a bit. Although in general I found the video a bit boring, whether it be because of the crime or just the whole way it was presented I do not know. Nonetheless it’s stories such as these that really bring into perspective how fortunate we are today. Quite often we take our laws, technology and our world in general for granted but I’m sure if Steven had been a teenager of this generation he would be greatly appreciative that he wouldn’t be sentenced to death and that this murder would have been more thoroughly investigated.

Hope i can get some help, thanks. I've just started playing this game after seeing your group haha. Peace. --Lordreisor 15:15, 2 October 2010 (BST)

I'm very sorry to hear about this, I'll get to the forums ASAP to try and resolve this issue, I'll tell you when I believe it's fixed, the only thing I need to know at the moment is if your username here is the same as your username on the forums.--Chairman Fanglord, 18:25, 5 October 2010 (BST)

ORPHAN.jpg Orphaned Page
The following page(s) were orphaned, meaning they weren't linked from any other page on UDWiki. For house-keeping's sake, we are adding the link onto the relevant talk page. If you don't want the pages anymore just post them on the Deletions Page. You aren't required to do anything, but we'd appreciate if it you kept the link on any one of your pages.

Please note that the link provided below will not remove the page from Orphaned Pages, so you'll still need to manually make a link for us. Thank you.

Your page, Battle Of Ridleybank, was not linked to on the wiki. This message is just to provide a link for it and clear it from our orphanage. --Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 15:50, 24 April 2010 (BST)

Hey fang!

This page should be a subpage of your group. I've already put a move request here.--Orange Talk 01:46, 6 September 2009 (BST)

Sorry about that man. --Chairman Fanglord, 01:53, 6 September 2009 (BST)

Don't worry about that. As for the game, I suggest you this guide. Btw, thanks for your compliment :D--Orange Talk 02:02, 6 September 2009 (BST)

It has been now moved to Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance/News Archive. I've fixed the incoming links acccordingly. Good luck with your new group. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 03:03, 6 September 2009 (BST)

Alright!

I think it is a time for a different look i will get a preview of somthing you may like on here soon.
Chairman Fanglord,15:18, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Cool. Can't wait to see what you have in mind. I kind of like your set up here.--Umbrella-White.pngPresident JacksonUmbrella-White.png 16:34, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
Check it out: User:Fanglord2/Testing Grounds I need to clean up the code cause the page looks nice,
but the code is almost impossible to edit without messing things up so yea, also i will be making a few others
for a bit more of a choice, i will make the next one tomorrow (about one a day). Anyway hope you like it i g2g.
P.S. i have the font white because i find it alot easyer on the eyes but just tell me what color you want
it to be and i will cahnge it.
Chairman Fanglord, 01:45, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
I like it! I like it a lot! Just a couple things. Make the Umbrella.gif smaller so you don't have to scroll to the side to see the entire page. The links to other Umbrella Pages should all be the same size and in order of longest-->shortest corporate-->platoon. Thanks for your hard work fang! Looks real nice! Oh and the font I think should be smoke and not white, subtle difference but its nice.--Umbrella-White.pngPresident JacksonUmbrella-White.png 22:51, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Ok so what order do you want them in exactly? cause i have been wondering about it. also i am having troubles
with the page width so it may be a while before i can get that fixed.Chairman Fanglord, 15:58, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Like I said longest-->shortest corporate-->platoon and just reduce the pixel size of the Umbrella.gif.--Umbrella-White.pngPresident JacksonUmbrella-White.png 23:41, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

RE: Malton Observer

If you're referring to the News at a Glance comment in the January 12th issue, I was referring to the fact that your posts on Brainstock were nearly incomprehensible, save for the posts that were completely incomprehensible. I used the phrase "Speaks in Tongues" to allude to the Pentecostal practice of shouting out gibberish and pretending it's some kind of spiritual language, which is based on a well-known passage from the Christian Bible in which the apostles experience Xenoglossy. In short, I was making fun of the fact that your posts were poorly written and extremely difficult to understand. --William Told and Co. ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ 21:29, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Also, red font on a black background can be very hard on the eyes. I'd change it if I were you.--William Told and Co. ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ ಠ_ಠ 21:29, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Testing ground

Oh good god, yet another page with black background and silly font tags in headings! Um, anyway, your test page has been moved to User:Fanglord2/Testing Grounds -- boxy talkteh rulz 06:59 27 February 2009 (BST)

Sigma

Can you update the Sigma roster on the wiki for me?
I would do it myself but im a bit occupied at the moment.
If you cant get to it no problem i will do it some other day.
Use this for reference:
Sigma Platoon Roster
Also i could use some help with making a siggy for the
wiki cause each time i try it gets all messed up,
i will show you what i got so far latter.
Thanks in advance.
Fanglord2 00:49, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

I'll update the page, that's not a problem. But I can't do the roster list until members choose what RT they want to take (Medic, Engineer, Infantry, etc). We get that sorted first, then I'll fix the wiki page. :) --D.E.ATalk 13:04, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Ok i just have to wait for the Sigma users to pick their RT then i will leave ya another message. Fanglord2 17:14, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Ok nevermind about the siggy thing i almost have it done then i will use it. Anyway can i use the main layout for your
user page but edit it for my own? I would really apreciate it,
hope to hear back from ya. Fanglord2 17:17, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Oh sorry! I forgot you asked me for help with your siggy. If you still need help, then just ask. As for my wiki page, yeah you can take it. I actually copied it from another user, and just worked it to my own styling. So yeah go for it! --D.E.ATalk 17:35, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
Ok i got my siggy check it out User:Fanglord2/sig but how do i make it apear
as my actual sig instead of this one --->Fanglord2 00:32, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
Go to your "my preferences", add this exact code (including the brackets) into the nickname box {{SUBST:Nosubst|User:Fanglord2/sig}}, and make sure the box marked "Raw signatures" is ticked, then click save. That's it :) --D.E.ATalk 11:35, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

ok thanks man --Chairman Fanglord, 15:18, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Recruitment Advert Alphabetizing

I notice that you have been consistently removing the Abandoned's advert post and putting it below the Arcadiac Socialist Survivalist Party and the Area 51's group advertisements. If you haven't noticed yet, our advertisement is to be left alone except by registered members of the Abandoned, and any attempts to move it below the two groups stated above will simply be revised. The reason why our advertisement is on top is because when alphabetising, one goes by the Proper Noun (in this case, Abandoned), not the adjective. This is true with the other recruitment adverts, and so is true with anything under the category A. I also left several notes in the History tab of the Recruitment section, with the hopes you would see them and stop messing with the order of the adverts. I hope you understand this well. --Private Mark 07:26, 15 July 2008 (BST)

thxs for clearing that up i usaly go by the first letter/word for ordering, and i never knew so thxs for telling me

You're welcome. I'm glad we've reached an understanding here. :D --Private Mark 02:39, 25 July 2008 (BST)

Hi and Welcome:)

I'd just like to say that unlike some people, I like that you're making suggestions, even if some of them are not really workable. I thought the group radio one was great.

Three pieces of advice though:

  • 1) full automatic weapons will get spammed up the wazoo every single time... sniper rifles too, as well as any sort of gun which can fire from inside a building to the outside ... and if you make a firearms suggestion in general, try to make it something which has not been seen before if you want it to make it to even Undecided, let alone Reviewed (I've made 3 unconventional firearms ideas so far, which got undecided votes, though the nailgun might get to PR next time).
  • 2) Think out your suggestion ideas before making them so you have responses to people who will try to slam them (and they will try to slam them - it's the internet after all - home of the flamewars). Make sure to format properly and try to include at least a skeleton version of stats and mechanics that you're proposing - it makes it easier for people to know what they're commenting on. People will more likely support an idea that seems well thought out and researched than one which seems unfinished and unpolished.
  • 3) Check the Frequently Made Suggestions list - just because your suggestion idea is in that list doesn't mean not to suggest it, but it does mean you need to be ready to explain why your suggestion is different than the many similar ideas made before.

Also, there are a lot of jerks on Talk:Suggestion who will probably rag on you - don't let them get to you. In general, people tend to be ruder on the internet than they'd ever dare to be in real life, but there are also some really nice people who, even when they disagree with your ideas, will do so in a mature manner and will sometimes even give you ways of making your suggestion more palatable to the UD community.

I look forward to seeing more of your suggestions :) --Tselita 14:30, 28 May 2008 (BST)

Actually, I am this rude in real life. People are slamming his suggestions because most of them are dupes, horridly vague, or he doesn't listen and respond to input on them. There seems to be a lot of that on that page.

Here is the problem with you, Fanglord2, and the Suggestions page. You aren't reading what people are saying that is negative about your suggestions and learning from it. You aren't working on an idea after you throw it out there. You had the gall to say that the discussion was boring. You don't research any of your suggestions. You don't really seem to know how a wiki works.

And to answer your question, No it isn't "copying" to use an older idea and 'improve it. If you add something new to it you just might get something Peer Reviewed. I know it is boring going through all those old suggestions. We don't like going through them when people dupe something, but we do to show you where that idea has already been taken. We do it to help you. That's why it really makes people annoyed at you when you ignore or dismiss a link or if you can't be bothered to look for some of your own links.

If you have an idea type it in the search box and see what pops up. It might lead you to another idea. If you are serious about coming up with things to improve UD first of all you have to show that you actually know and play the game. Second, you need to see if it has already been suggested. Third, you need to listen to your fellow players.

And on a wiki it is customary to respond on the page someone left the comment on. You don't have to respond on their talk page. It breaks up the flow of the conversation. If they are going to reply to you they will check your page where they left their comment.--– Nubis 23:14, 28 May 2008 (BST)

Talk:Suggestions

When making a new suggestion, remember to also copy the last two lines (the discussion header and the horizontal line) as described in the How To section. And please read the Frequently Suggested page before putting anything else up for discussion. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 00:10, 27 May 2008 (BST)

kk want me to fix all my suggestions?--Fanglord2 00:23, 27 May 2008 (BST)
I fixed the first you put there, but the others, yes. And please keep this discussion here, I don't like have one half of a discussion in one place and the other half in another place. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 00:30, 27 May 2008 (BST)
what is there to fix it looks like just about everyone elses and it seem to be in working order so i dont see anything to change.--Fanglord2 00:35, 27 May 2008 (BST)
This is what the How To reads:
===Suggestion===
{{suggestionNew
|suggest_time=~~~~
|suggest_type=Skill, balance change, improvement, etc.
|suggest_scope=Who or what it applies to.
|suggest_description=Full description. Check spelling and be descriptive.
|discussion=|}}
====Discussion (Suggestion Name)====
----
And this is what you did:
===Suggestion===
{{suggestionNew
|suggest_time=~~~~
|suggest_type=Skill, balance change, improvement, etc.
|suggest_scope=Who or what it applies to.
|suggest_description=Full description. Check spelling and be descriptive.
|discussion=|}}
Notice the difference?
If you didn't understand what I said above, I'll say it again; please do not reply on my talk page to messages I leave on your talk-page. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 00:48, 27 May 2008 (BST)
i know u said not to write stuff here but how are u supposed to know i wrote somthing and the only reason i nver put

Discussion (Suggestion Name)

that part in my suggestion is because itf for disscussion i thought you people that discuss it would put it there.
If you'd read this, you would know how I know when you write something.
You're supposed to include the discussion header because it makes adding comments easier, and ensures that the formatting is uniform. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 01:17, 27 May 2008 (BST)

This page has been deleted as a Deletion Workaround. The original deletion request is here. It was deleted as it was a Dupe of the Journals page. Please do not recreate it as it will be deleted again. If you continue to recreate it, it may be seen as vandalism and you may receive a formal warning. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reply on my talk page. Follow the link from the "ese" part of my signature. -- Cheese 22:31, 26 May 2008 (BST)

If you restore the page once more, I will take this to Vandal Banning. Please stop recreating the page. -- Cheese 22:37, 26 May 2008 (BST)
It's ok. I suggest you read the welcome newbie template below. It gives you some basic pointers on things around the wiki. Particularly how to sign your posts. Don't be a nobody. It's helpful to know who's speaking. If you need any help, just leave me a message. -- Cheese 22:44, 26 May 2008 (BST)
I do. I'm primarily the Leader of The Randoms as Cheeseman, and I've been playing for more than 2 years now. I also a sysop on the wiki so I get a few extra buttons to play with. -- Cheese 22:53, 26 May 2008 (BST)
To be a sysop you need to do the following: get involved in the community on pages such as Policy Discussion, Deletions, Speedy Deletions, and various other bits and pieces. This details the various conditions you have to meet, but it doesn't happen overnight, it took me two years and three Promotion bids to become a sysop. About an alliance, head to our forums and introduce yourself, I'll talk to my command team and see if we can work something out. -- Cheese 23:02, 26 May 2008 (BST)
Policy Discussion is actually to do with the wiki. Sysops are not involved with the game in anyway (as in we don't control the game) we just keep the wiki tidy. Please remember to sign by the way. -- Cheese 23:17, 26 May 2008 (BST)
To be honest, getting involved in all the red tape and bureaucracy of the wiki when you're first starting out is like running before you can walk. The best way to contribute when you first join is the suggestions pages, particularly the Suggestion Talk page, you can give your opinions on other suggestions and discuss your own ones before you properly submit them for voting. That's how I started off. The internal workings of the wiki are pretty confusing to be honest. Not even I understand them all. - Cheese 23:25, 26 May 2008 (BST)
It's ok. I've found it. Talk:Suggestions#Assualt_weapons_.28AK-47.29. Gun suggestions (especially Assault Rifles are shot down (so to speak) very quickly. There are a few guides on what to avoid when writing a suggestion. You can find them all . Policy wise, all you need to do is just contribute to the discussions that are taking place on the talk pages of each policy and help thrash out a decent workable version that'll pass voting. -- Cheese 23:37, 26 May 2008 (BST)

I removed the links to the current suggestions because for some reason it was listing his talk page as if it was in that category instead of linking to suggestions. I don't have the time to fix it right now. --– Nubis 03:10, 27 May 2008 (BST)

Look out! It's an upset tanker! [runs over Fanglord with tanker] --Tony Feld 19:50, 9 May 2008 (BST)

HAHAHAHA!!!

Actually, everything I said WAS true. Check the history of Axes High's talk page. Additionally, I received a pm on your boards half requesting, half ordering, our help in Perryn.

Both of these were from Braden, and I've since spoken with him about it, and the issue has been resolved upon that front. You, however, continue to portray yourself as a trenchie jackass... and it's getting pretty old.

Your lack of communication with your teammates is NOT my problem, so resolve issues internally before pointing fingers, mmkay?

Peace, --Hardcore Rockabilly 20:06, 11 August 2008 (BST)

Listen up Fanglord:

You're a group leader, which means it's your job to know what your team is doing. Also, engage your brain; If I reference an edit to AH's discussion page, don't jump the gun and say I'm lying. Go to the talk page, and see for yourself. Here, I'll make it easy.

http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php?title=Talk:Axes_High&oldid=1216405

I'm going to send you a PM on your boards, we can wrap this up there. Email notification comes with PMs, but not talk pages.

(Oh, and that faglord thing, that was a typo. Well, might have been a Freudian slip, but still. In the end, I blame Tonyay ;)

U.C navbar

Hi Fanglord. Nice work with the navbar. We could really use a better navaigational system for our main page but then we already have links for Victor, Omega and Whiskey platoons' pages and one at the bottom for U.B.C.S. All we needed was just a link to the UCC. I guess we can thank Thadeous for the one thats currently up... if he was the one who put it there lol! =P. --D.E.ATalk 18:13, 29 August 2008 (BST)

You forgot to put your comment header in green... no matter though, I did it. Anyway what I mean about the nav system is something like this...

Victor Platoon | Omega Platoon | Whiskey Platoon | U.B.C.S

I could't work out what the UBCS code was so I stuck in Company Allies instead. Edit the UC main page, paste the code in at the top somewhere and preview it to see what I mean =) --D.E.ATalk 16:01, 30 August 2008 (BST)

well i fixed it checked out all the links heres an example ofm the mistake were making when you put #Victor_Platoon you dont need the # and the _

it should have looked like this:

this would be the exact name of the page->Victor Platoon|{{c|red|Victor Platoon<-is what you want it to apear as on the navbar

here it is finished i think unless you want to add more to it.

Victor Platoon | Omega Platoon | Whiskey Platoon | U.B.C.S

Fanglord2 17:19, 30 August 2008 (BST)

Oooo! A Whiskey member are you! That platoon's filling up quite nicely =). Did you take up Airheadoh's offer to be second-in-command of Whiskey? Anyway back to business... that "#" wasn't a mistake. On the Philosophe Knights page, they have a link at the bottom of the page that says "back to top". When you click it, it returns the page to the top again. Thats what I was considering for Umbrella. That code I used is right... I checked it myself. Basically its along the same lines as the table of contents at the top of the page there. When you click one of the headings, it automatically takes you to that corresponding topic... do you see what I mean.. thats what that code I put in will do =) --D.E.ATalk 18:02, 30 August 2008 (BST)

oh i understand i will try to see if i can fix it up a bit also could you give me a link to his user page thing and yes i did take the postion of second-in-comand.--Fanglord2 18:11, 30 August 2008 (BST)

Click here for Thadeous' talk page =). --D.E.ATalk 18:16, 30 August 2008 (BST)

When you click one of the headings, it automatically takes you to that corresponding topic... correct me if i am wrong but dont they need to have their own topic/section for that? cause omega and whisky are in a section called platoons...Fanglord2 18:19, 30 August 2008 (BST)

wait nvm i tried that on a different page and it dident work--Fanglord2 18:30, 30 August 2008 (BST)

omfg i think i got it theres just on problem lol i will get it fixed though--Fanglord2 18:48, 30 August 2008 (BST)

If I could tell what you were trying to do I would offer to help, but I don't get it. Thanks. --– Nubis NWO 12:21, 10 October 2008 (BST)

Popular Culture – Video Games A video game is an electronic game a person can play via a game controller or a regular keyboard and mouse if used on a computer. Video games these days differ greatly game to game in how they look, sound, feel. For example there are games such as Call of Duty that have high definition/high detail graphics; millions of people play this franchise. Then there are some games such as Minecraft which has been bought and played by hundreds of thousands of people but has graphics most would compare to those of Mario on the Nintendo 64. Both of the above games greatly differ in sound too. Video games also greatly differ in how they feel. Some games feel very smooth while others feel very heavy and clunky despite how much you change sensitivity and controller configurations. History The invention of the first true video game is a topic quite susceptible to debate. One of the most common misconceptions is that Pong (1972) was the first video game in existence, this is hardly the truth. To really see what the first video game was we have to go back to how they first started, approximately 63 years ago. The first video game was patented in the United States on December 14, 1948 by Thomas T. Goldsmith, Jr. and Estle Ray Mann. Their game simply was a missile you controlled with two knobs (Speed and curve/trajectory) and you tried to hit a target on an overlay that was placed over the screen of a TV. Tennis for Two came along in 1958 by William Higinbotham and has been generally credited for being the first real video game. Two players would use controllers to hit a ball back and forth and change the trajectory on a side view of a tennis court, although this game was not available for public consumption. It wasn’t until 1961 that a game became widely available by way of the primitive internet and eventually being distributed on new computers. Spacewar! Was created by a group of students Massachusetts Institution of Technology, the most notable of these students was Steve Russel. It was a two player game where each player would try and destroy/kill the others space craft with missiles, there was also a star in the middle that would destroy you. In 1996 Ralph Baer and a co-worker named Bill Harrison created a video game called Chase; this was the first game to be displayed on a normal television of the time. The two co-workers were joined by Bill Rusch a year later; they continued development on what would be the first video game console and brought the prototype to Sanders R&D where they showed it off to manufacturers. On a somewhat unrelated note Ken Thompson created a game called Space Travel, it became so expensive to run (75$ an hour) that he wished to port it to a less expensive computer. In the process of porting this game with a friend they created an operation system called Unix, Space Travel the game is credited as being the first Unix application. In 1971 the Galaxy Game, a game similar to Spacewar!, was installed at Stanford University. This was the first coin operated video game. Also in 1971 a coin operated version of Spacewar! Under the name of Computer Space was created by Noaln Bushnell and Ted Dabney. They licensed it to Nutting Associates who manufactured 1,500 machines with the game on it. The game was sadly unsucessful due to the difficulty but it was the first mass produced and first video game to be offered for comercial sale. Although their next game would see massive success and forver be a clearly recognizable game amoung the general population. Pong was released in 1972 by the newly formed Atari Inc. Pong immediately received mass success, they sold 19,00 Pong machines and caused many to try and imitate what they created.

Articles for Law Project:

CALGARY — Canada's youngest multiple killer is now a Calgary university freshman who is in the final years of her sentence.

She will be free a year after graduating from the class of 2015.

The girl, who turns 18 in October, was 12 years old when she aided her 23-year-old boyfriend in the slaughter of her parents and eight-year-old brother in their Medicine Hat, Alta., home in 2006.

Her identity is protected by law.

On Wednesday, the teenager is expected to appear in person inside Medicine Hat's Court of Queen's Bench as a judge reviews her progress with intensive rehabilitation.

Since she was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder in 2007, the girl has appeared at the reviews over closed-circuit television, prompting Justice Scott Brooker to demand a face-to-face meeting.

During her last hearing, a case worker told the judge the girl found the return to Medicine Hat too traumatic.

The regular hearings are the only chance the public has to learn of the convicted girl's progress, as her identity and psychological reports are kept secret by youth criminal justice and privacy laws.

She has been serving an open custody sentence in a Calgary group home since 2010.

That allows her to go on escorted trips to therapy, shopping malls and banks, as a step toward gradual reintegration to society by 2016.

At age 22, she will be free.

Herald sources say the girl is enrolled in Mount Royal University classes, and must report to police, who monitor her curfew and conditions.

As part of her 10-year sentence — the maximum in youth law, which included credit for time in custody at the Calgary Young Offenders Centre — she spent time in Edmonton's Alberta Hospital intensive rehabilitative custody and supervision.

In the lead-up to the murders, the girl called herself Runaway Devil online and pretended to be older than 12.

During separate trials for the same crimes, both the girl and her co-accused, 23-year-old Jeremy Allan Steinke, were found guilty of three counts of first-degree murder.

Steinke was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.

Court heard the girl's parents protested the illicit relationship between their 12-year-old daughter and the older Steinke.

The couple plotted deadly revenge through e-mails and phone conversations.

The plan for murder saw the girl's parents and eight-year-old brother stabbed to death in a surprise attack in the middle of the night.

After the murders, the pair had sex and were later seen laughing and necking at an alcohol-fuelled party down the street from the murder scene.

The next day, they were arrested sleeping with friends in a truck police found in a Leader, Sask., school parking lot.

The girl and Steinke exchanged half a dozen jailhouse love letters, in which they agreed to marry.

However, the relationship crumbled within days of the arrests when they blamed each other for the boy's murder.

Neither has admitted killing him.

During the girl's 2010 hearing, it was said she was making "significant progress" in intensive young offender rehabilitation and earning straight A's in school during a 2010 hearing.

Court heard the girl was not considered a risk to society and she was "making great strides" academically and therapeutically.

Some members of her extended family were supportive of her progress.

Psychiatric pre-sentencing reports, which are sealed, described her in 2007 as suffering from oppositional defiance disorder and conduct disorder.

Before therapy began, the girl was said to have suffered from dependency issues, anxiety and depression, and was prone to immature problem-solving and wishful fantasies.

In 2008, the girl was reported to be gaining ground in therapy, however the Crown said then the girl's interpretation of facts surrounding the crime was "troubling."

In November 2009, the girl's closed custody was relaxed to open custody. That's when she was placed in a Calgary group home.

All outings must be approved by the Alberta Solicitor General's office.

Details of those outings are not being made public.

Medicine Hat is about 290 kilometres southeast of Calgary.

VANCOUVER — The wife of a man who died after being struck by an RCMP cruiser recalled in vivid detail on Tuesday how devastated she was by the news of his death.

"It was sheer terror," said Paula Haczewski, 28. "I don't really have the words to describe it. I collapsed on the floor and so did my mom and dad. I wailed. I became insane. I was screaming and crying. I didn't see any reason to live anymore. It was horrible."

She described how she was financially dependent on her husband, Albert Haczewski, 27, and how in the wake of his death, she was terrified and depressed and had trouble eating and sleeping for the first year.

Haczewski was testifying in B.C. Supreme Court in Vancouver at a lawsuit launched by Albert's family.

In March, RCMP Const. Petina Kostiuk pleaded guilty in criminal court to driving without due care in connection with the October 2007 incident.

Responding to a 911 call, the officer sped through a red light in Burnaby, B.C., and collided with a vehicle, killing both the driver, Haczewski, and his lifelong friend, Koyo Hara, 26.

Kostiuk, 41, received a $1,500 fine, after a provincial court judge in Vancouver called her actions a "momentary lapse" with tragic consequences.

The families of both men sued the RCMP, with the Hara lawsuit being settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.

But Haczewski's civil suit against Kostiuk and the RCMP opened Monday before B.C. Supreme Court Justice Christopher Grauer.

The RCMP has not admitted liability in the Haczewski suit and is expected to argue that the victim was impaired from smoking marijuana and therefore contributed to the negligence.

The plaintiffs deny that there was evidence of impairment, but say that the issue is irrelevant because there was just over a second for the driver to react before the collision.

On cross-examination, Haczewski admitted her husband had driven a vehicle after smoking pot occasionally.

But she said he always waited several hours after smoking before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle.

"He was a very conscientious driver."

The RCMP is expected to open its case today. Kostiuk is expected to be among a number of witnesses called by the defendants.
