Suggestion description
Okay this is a pretty simple suggestion I have. I've had this in Talk Discussion for a while and it's been getting good reviews.
As is, the only time people know who is barracading is when they go from un-caded to loosely caded. That's all fine and well, but it doesn't solve the problem of overcading. People should be able to overcade, sure, it's a legitimate tactic, but they should not be able to do so anonymously. My suggestion is to make a group notification when someone cades the building from VSB++ to HB, just like it does when it goes from uncaded to loosely.
It would look something like this. Goofy McCader decides that although he's in an entry point, there's 2 zombies outside so he should ignore the barracade plan and spray paint and cade it up to EHB, trapping the other survivors outside. When he reaches 'Heavily Barracaded' a notification will be visible to everyone in the room (who doesn't have that notification toggled off):
Goofy McCader reinforced the barricade to a heavily barracaded state. No more survivors can enter from outside.
Then people can either give him a smack on the back of the head and ask him what is he doing or, if he's just being malicious for no reason, they can engage in more severe measures of educating him.
It makes sense that other people would notice you trying to cade up a building so much that survivors can no longer enter. ie, "Um hey ... why's that guy dragging the hospital bed in front of the doors - no one else will be able to enter or leave!"
Good Points of this:
1) People who overcade will not be able to do so anonymously - they can be told to stop BY NAME, or if they don't stop and are doing it maliciously, they could be targetted just like you would target a PKer or GKer.
2) It really does make sense. VSB++ to HB is probably the most important cading level difference, since it determines the difference between survivors being able to enter and not being able to enter a building.
3) For zombies, it gives some more notification of which survivors are trying to cade up the place while they are forming a beachhead, in order to target them instead (just like they do with the uncaded to loosely).
4) It would be extremely easy to implement. Overcading is probably one of the biggest problems survivors currently have. And again, just noting, I am not coming down on overcading as a Urban Dead tactic, just the fact that as is, it's anonymous (which makes no sense, especially since you can see Uncaded to Loosely, and dragging a bed, iron bars, forklift, whatever to the point where no one can get in anymore should NOT be going utterly unnoticed by survivors who's primary concern is likely going to be the barracades which are keeping the hungry zombies outside while letting other survivors in)
5) Since it's only doing one additional notification (VSB++ to Heavily), rather than every change up the ladder, there wouldn't be any spam concerns that there might be if there were notifications for Loosely to Lightly, Lightly to Quite Strong, Quite Strong to Very Strong, etc. And if you don't want to see the notification of Very Strong to Heavily, you can just change/toggle the settings like you do with the uncaded to loosely notification.
People who will not like it:
1) Trenchcoaters who want to cade themselves up in entry points at other survivors expense.
Who will love the idea:
1) Anyone who wants to be able to enforce Barracade plans.
2) Newbies who have to run around and waste all their AP, winding up sleeping outside, because a couple of inconsiderate survivors have overcaded all entry points.
3) People who want me to make more non-weapon suggestions :)
Some things we talked about in Talk:Discussion
Whether to make it every level change, or just VSB++ to Heavily. - After several days, it was pretty much decided that just having VSB++ to Heavily notification is probably better. It limits spam (though either way can have spam reduced by having a toggle), and VSB++ to Heavily is the only level that actually matters when it comes to overcading.

Weak keep - As above. It will also help determining who is an active barricader (==valuable survivor). There is only one problem - it will create lots of spam messages during bigger sieges.Changing my vote, see below -- 16:57, 3 April 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Long overdue. Yes, overcading is a legitimate tactic but it makes no sense for it to be anonymous. It's a form of griefing like PKing and should carry similar risks. Look at it this way, would you like other players to be able to PK you anonymously? --Explodey 17:24, 3 April 2008 (BST)

- Keep - I'm with them. Screw griefers. If you want to grief, fine -- do it with your nuts out. Anonymous barricading is stupid, because anyone in the building would be able to see and hear you dragging a refrigerator in front of the door. --Diano 17:39, 3 April 2008 (BST)

- Re - Actually I know ahat you're referring to, and it was discussed in Talk:Discussion, but this suggestion is actually not a dupe. It would be a dupe would be if it was showing every cading and breaking down notification. That dupe in question was actually passed in peer review, but there were quite a few concerns about spam. This is just VSB++ to HB, and solely to counter anonymous overcading, and would not contribute to spam.--Tselita 16:55, 3 April 2008 (BST)
- Kill - "Overcading" is a player construct. Some groups might support EHB barricades everywhere. So I don't think they should be vilified by a global message. Jonny12 talk 21:02, 3 April 2008 (BST)
