Weapon Sharpening

Timestamp: 06:00, 6 July 2006 (BST)
Type: New item and skill
Scope: New...item and skill?
Description: A new item could be found at fire stations and hardware stores. The Blade Sharpener could be found at a 2% chance. You would need a new skill to sharpen your items; under Knife and Axe Proficiency are Knife and Axe Sharpening, which you would need to sharpen the respective items. Sharpening something would increase the damage it inflicts by 1 for the next 10 successful attacks.

Votes

  1. Keep - Author vote. --Cerebrus13 06:00, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  2. Dupe - And I wrote the one this is a dupe of! –Bob Hammero TW!P! 06:04, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  3. Kill - I think this is different enough for it not to be a dupe. It's nice and simple, but I don't like how it introduces two new skills to do the same thing. Go and make it one skill and I'ld be happier about it. - Jedaz 06:08, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  4. Kill -While a bit more complicated, I like Bob's version better (even if it doesn't include the knife...which it should, if implemented.)-Pesatyel 06:33, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  5. Kill - The differences are good enough for it to not be a dupe, but i don't like it anyways. It's overpowered, as once you get the skill and the item, your axe becomes a 4 damage weapon forever, with the only disadvantage that you have to "sharpen" it each 10 hits. --Matthew Fahrenheit Talk 06:38, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  6. Kill - More clarification on the cost of use of this skill would be good. I assume the sharpening stone would not be consumed upon use? Would the action of sharpening take 1 AP, or what? I'm actually inclined against the idea on the whole, to be honest, but I would like to see a few more details first. --Rgon 07:03, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  7. Kill - Is the sharpener consumed after 1 use? If not, this is terribly unbalanced. If so, it might still be unbalanced. Rheingold 07:23, 6 July 2006 (BST).
  8. Kill - Axes are already overpowered enough, just leave them alone.Youronlyfriend 08:47, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  9. Kill - I just don't like the entire idea. --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 08:53, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  10. Kill Axes in Urban Dead are beautifully simple. Let's keep it so. --Jon Pyre 09:35, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  11. Dupe - But I do like it. It would be better as one skill though. --Otware 10:00, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  12. Kill - Nah, two skills to do one thing. --Nob666 10:17, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  13. Kill - And don't revive it. --Niilomaan 10:24, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  14. Dupe - And the other is better, sorry mate - HerrStefantheGreat 11:21, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  15. Dupe - I remember the last one. --Swmono talk - W! - P! - SGP 11:41, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  16. Kill - Jon Pyre is right --Mookiemookie 12:31, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  17. Kill - it makes no logical sense that this would be two separate skills, even if balance requires it. Jenny D'ArcT 13:06, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  18. Kill - this is a simple game. Let's keep is so--Sig.PNGtalk 14:12, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  19. Kill - Not a dupe. I might keep if there was a random chance/set number before a sharpener/axe was consumed. --Burgan 14:44, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  20. Dupe - I consider that because both ideas suck, there are no viable differences. - David Malfisto 21:28, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  21. Kill - Haha, nice one David! But seriously, there just isn't any reason for this. Axes are balenced and useful as it is. --Paradox244 20:14, 7 July 2006 (BST)

Spot Spraypainter

Timestamp: 09:48, 6 July 2006 (BST)
Type: Game Mechanics
Scope: Survivors
Description: Basically if this gets implemented, the 20% most active people in a building (rounding down) will be notified of any spraypanting that happens on the same location as they are, like this: "Some guy spraypainted something over the wall" (this could be changed depending on if it's inscribed on a school's blackboard, on a graveyard's tombstone, etc.). So, there has to be at least 5 people in a building (besides yourself) for someone to spot you spraypainting.

This makes sense as people spraypainting, while not making themselves notorious, tend not to get away with their doings if there are crowds of people where they do their deeds. People that like to make "stealth" graffiti will have to take on account the number of people that is present (as in real life) and most of them will prefer to do that on the streets to go unnoticed (as in real life too).

Note: I do not care much about "official" graffiti, and this ability doesn't support it. We all know that if a group has numbers enough to be majority on some location, their graffiti is the one that will hold the most anyways.

Votes

  1. Author Keep – I hope this version addresses everyone's concerns about spraypainting. --Matthew Fahrenheit Talk 09:48, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  2. Keep - I still think this could have the potential to produce far too much spam, but it seems reasonable enough to warrant keeping. –Bob Hammero TW!P! 10:05, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  3. Kill - One it's spelt "graffiti" not "graffity" and I don't think that this is worthwhile having in the game. - Jedaz 10:25, 6 July 2006 (BST)
Re - You're sure Jedaz? That looks like spanish to me. And im from a spanish talking country, so i meant no offense... --Matthew Fahrenheit Talk 10:29, 6 July 2006 (BST) Looks like yes, so im changing some "y"s for "i"s, i hope nobody cares. --Matthew Fahrenheit Talk 10:36, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  4. Keep - I wanna see if someone messes with my paintings.. More I see the better. --Niilomaan 10:27, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  5. Keep - Jedaz, it's a bit rich for you to be lecturing others on their spelling/grammar. --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 10:29, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  6. Keep - I like info. --Swmono talk - W! - P! - SGP 11:43, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  7. Kill - One word: Why? --John Z. Delorean 11:48, 6 July 2006 (BST) 11:48, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  8. Kill - I like the graffitti system just fine. This game is too full of half-mongoloids who would PK you for spraying over their "ZOMG OFFCIAL CLAN TAGZ" --Mookiemookie 12:33, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  9. Keep - It makes sense that you would notice it if someone was using spraypaint in the vicinity. Even if you aren't in line of sight, the smell is pretty strong... I wonder if there can be a toggle for people who are not interested, and would consider it spam...?Jenny D'ArcT 13:09, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  10. Kill - just make it the 50 most recent people--Sig.PNGtalk 14:13, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  11. Spam - This idea still sucks. – Nubis 15:19, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  12. Kill - Somebody seems to miss the whole point of graffiti.--Vykos CMS-Meta 15:38, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  13. Spam - See Vykos', Nubis' and MookieMookie's votes. –Xoid 15:47, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  14. Kill - Unnecessary. Sure, it makes some sense, but I don't want to get PKed because I spraypainted my different message somewhere. The laws of the game are not supposed to help in any way any specific group's way of doing things. --Burgan 16:20, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  15. Kill - After some thought, I still don't see how this helps anyone but PKers. Rheingold 16:25, 6 July 2006 (BST).
  16. Keep Makes sense, sounds good. I'm up for it. HamsterNinja 18:17, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  17. Spam -same as last time, if spraypainting were spammy like the radio, I can see this. But it isn't. While I have no problem with little relatively useless stuff being added, this suggestion would create MORE spam then Tagging does (which, to my knowledge, tagging doesn't even CREATE spam).--Pesatyel 19:17, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  18. Spam - Flak Jacket 62AP ... Spraycan 12AP ... Tagger Anonymity, Priceless. Spraycan Willy MalTel·T 20:08, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  19. Keep - As the Hamster. David Malfisto 21:29, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  20. Spam - It only takes 1 AP to tag over it... deal with it. --Blahblahblah 21:41, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  21. Keep -I always liked the idea.--Labine50 MHG|MalTel 23:31, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  22. Spam - Again.. I evoke my right to privacy.. I don't want you to know when and where I am tagging. --Steel Hammer 02:15, 7 July 2006 (BST)
  23. Kill - I think this could be better implemented as a skill (ie, you've gained such a good amount of experience with painting that you add a "uniquie" graffiti artist name). However, the whole thing would be moot since you could just tag a building with "KEEP AT VS - BANGO SKANK" regardless. Interesting idea, regardless, but I don't think it makes enough sense to be implemented. - Bango Skank 02:37, 7 July 2006 (BST)
  24. Kill - Taggers ought to be anonymous, that's kind of the point. A lot of the point is that the walls are canvas for everyone, and the tag is always temporary, like it or not. That's a lot of the fun, right there. --Rgon 07:18, 9 July 2006 (BST)

Laptops

Removed by author, more improved version below --Canuhearmenow 19:47, 6 July 2006 (BST)

Laptops V2.0

Timestamp: 19:47, 6 July 2006 (BST)
Type: New Item.
Scope: Survivors.
Description: After a year of quarantine, the military has decided to ease the quarantine with the access of WiFi for all survivors. Now all powered phone masts also emit WiFi access, this allows the previously worthless Laptop to be used. The search rates for the Laptop are; 4% Mall Tech Stores, 3% Clubs and 2% Schools. The Laptop, if you have NecroNet Access, would be able to access the NecroNet, however, the military still does not allow E-mails. Unfortunatly, even in this day and age of technological marvels the Laptop is still quite cumbersome, it would take up about 5 blocks of space and would only be useful inside a powered building (After all, the batteries would run out, and Kevan wouldn't like coding how to manage battery life.) This hopefully would ease the pressure off the current Mall/NT-centric gameplay that is going on, you would still need to go to a NT building for revive syringes, you just wouldn't need to go there for NecroNet as much.

Votes

  1. Keep - Author Vote, could give more people idea's for Hacker Skills. Also removes the hassle of going to a NT building for NecroNet. --Canuhearmenow 19:47, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  2. Kill - NecroNet. Is. Balanced. By. Having. To. Have. A. Powered. NecroTech. Building. –Bob Hammero TW!P! 20:04, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  3. Keep - Necrotec is pretty useless as it only tells you that there are 5 Zeds that want to eat your brains outside. Adding this to the game would do no harm whatsoever. Does Necronet shoot laser beams? No. Does Necronet surround the building you are in with a wall of Tenchcoaters? No. Does anybody use Necronet anymore apart from people who have just brought lab access? No. Laptops will add a little more point to Necrotec by making it portable. --John Z. Delorean 20:15, 6 July 2006 (BST) 20:15, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  4. Kill - I just don't like laptops. Also why only 4% on tech store and why as much as 3% on clubs? (Ok with all those mall skills it might be few % more, but still?) --Niilomaan 20:28, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  5. Keep - Necronet is useless as it is now, i don't think its "balanced": its underpowered. Even being useless (as you need an army of Necrotechs to have tagged only 1/4 of a suburbs zombies at any given time), this wuold at least make it more used. Zombies could be happier if this gets implemented too, as laptops take a lot of space and wastes survivor's AP. --Matthew Fahrenheit Talk 20:41, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  6. Keep - Because NercoNet sucks. Now it can suck on the move. (Oh and if this gets into the game, Krevan has an excuse to give us another Zombie buff.) - David Malfisto 21:31, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  7. Kill - Thanks for considering my recommendations, but there are flaws here. First, why are they in clubs? That makes no sense; try having them displace half the GPS units in NT buildings. And why so large? I was under the impression that radios were that large because of coding implementation, not because of size concerns (the inventory keeps track of 1 item and 4 digits, guns track 1 item and 1 digit?). My beef with the batteries wasn't coding complexity, but game complexity. For the limited utility of this item, it's not worth complicating the game with extra bells and whistles, and I don't want the laptop expanded too much more. Finally, I think an additional requirement should be at least 1 NT building powered in the suburb/cell range. --Burgan 21:34, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  8. keepWhen I saw the title "laptops" I was going to vote kill, but this seems like a very reasonable suggestion, especially with the requirement of a powered building for its use. Ybbor 22:17, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  9. Keep - You still need a powered phone mast and powered building. That's good. I don't see any point of using necronet right now, when I need to go to NT just to see how many scanned zombies are outside --EnForcer32 22:18, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  10. Kill - As I mentioned in the discussion page, there was already a suggestion for "Remote NecroNet Access that allowed people to access the NecroNet via library computers (and, I'd think School computers too, even though Sonny Corleone was trying to be sarcastic). I liked THAT idea better because it made libraries (and schools) a little more useful and didn't have, basically needless, new items. The main argument that killed THAT suggestion was that one wouldn't be able to access the NecroNet (a presumably self-contained system) via the internet. I don't see a laptop being able to do it either, given the circumstances.--Pesatyel 22:23, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  11. Kill - NecroNet is supposed to only be in NecroTech buildings. You can't access restricted programs from any computer. Sonny Corleone WTF 22:24, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  12. Keep Not bad. Necrotech isn't the most useful thing, so this could probobly be implemented without needing a corresponding zombie buff. HamsterNinja 22:25, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  13. Keep - Is limited enough, and we can live (or unlive) with less emphasis on Necrotech buildings. After all, aside from revivification, scientist are the second weakest class in the game. --McArrowni 22:49, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  14. Kill - Oddly enough, I agree with Sonny. Maybe you can hack into high security corperate computer systems, but I sure can't.--Labine50 MHG|MalTel 23:36, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  15. Keep - Increases the importance perceived usefulness of Phone Masts. Spraycan Willy MalTel·T 23:49, 6 July 2006 (BST)
  16. Keep - Ditto above. --Blahblahblah 02:01, 7 July 2006 (BST)
  17. Kill, new item, no new functionality, nobody uses Necronet anyway, Kill. Rheingold 02:19, 7 July 2006 (BST).
  18. Keep, What Malfisto said --Rozozag 21:29, 7 July 2006 (BST)
  19. Keep - May not add a ton of usefulness, but would add a new dimension to gameplay which might be fun. I like it. --Rgon 07:21, 9 July 2006 (BST)
  20. Keep - This would make Necronet used far more often. There's a lot of little uses for it that aren't worth the travelling cost of going to an NT building. --Toejam 14:14, 14 July 2006 (BST)
