"Official Language" article on Wikipedia:

Typically a nation's official language will be the one used in that nation's courts, parliament and administration.

Simple proposal: English (American/British dialects notwithstanding) is the only language to be used on UDWiki:Administration and its subpages. (e.g. A/D/S, where the inspiration for this policy came from.)

Non-English votes (e.g. some of the current ones on A/D/S) are to be struck and remain uncounted in tallies until rectified.

This policy has absolutely no bearing outside of UDWiki:Administration and its subpages, save for official sysop actions, such as deletion log comments and warnings - these must also be in English.

Voting Section

Voting Rules

Votes must be numbered, signed, and timestamped. They can take one of two forms: # comments ~~~~ or # ~~~~ Votes that do not conform to the above will be struck by a sysop.

The only valid voting sections are For and Against. If you wish to abstain from voting, do not vote.

   Bolded words aren't necessary on this page if you check the rules to the right, and considering it says that non-English votes will be struck, I'd say it's barring non-English, effectively. —Aichon— 05:09, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

   Actually it doesn't say that. It says the only valid 'sections' are For and Against, which says nothing of their content. I am not enjoined by the voting rule to even say For or Against, but just to put my numbered signed timestamp in the appropriate section if I so wish to vote.    He was talking about the policy, as was I, rather than the content that is currently allowed. I switched from talking about the rules to the right to the policy part of the way through my comment, since I was responding to two different aspects of his comment. Sorry for the confusion. What I don't understand is why, unless trying to make a point purely because they can, one would chose to say something that will not be understood by a portion of the relevant audience because it is in a language that clearly isn't as universal as the more common one. 4. Against - I support the idea, just not as presented. As others said during discussion, this may work better as a guideline, rather than as a policy. 28. Against In English: Some countries, like America, have a decent system where there isn't a national language. Without a national language it's possible to avoid silly useless cultural nationalism and censorship. Countries like France, on the other hand, hold their language superior and quash the mixing of culture and ideas through linguistic censorship. No single language, please.

    I think we should vote against tedious flaunting of one's linguistic skills, especially when those skills are in some cases embarrassingly feeble. (Naturally I speak numerous obscure languages and dialects thereof, but I'm not going to brag about it here. Ahem.)     Actually, formatting isn't required, so striking it would be arguably a no-no. The comments aren't required to be understandable, otherwise we would have had to shoot SA a while ago (especially for the above vote). -Wulfenbach 12:16, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

    Yes, proper formatting isn't required, but the actual vote was unsigned, there was indented text below it that wasn't signed (not strikable, but still annoying,) and the bit he actually signed was on a new line. Hell, to me, it looked like one unsigned vote, and one vote that wasn't indented properly (I was going to fix both, until I looked at the history.) Linkthewindow  Talk  13:06, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
