This page is an archive containing all posts on my talk page from March 21 2008 until August 18 2008 when i decided it was filthy enough to warrant moar clearing.
It's alright
My group moved anyways. Ioncannon11 02:24, 15 June 2008 (BST)
Not You!
Chill, I wasn't talking to you. I meant the two dweebs changing it to that stupid fire station revive point or whatever it was. I changed it back to your revision, or as close to it as I could get. Ohhh, I seeee what happened. I pressed edit, and then you edited, and then I reverted it back to whatever it was. Slight glitch, sorry about that. I was like "Is this dude smokin something?" lol. Ioncannon11 05:03, 25 May 2008 (BST)
- Don't sweat it. My mistake. Ioncannon11 05:06, 25 May 2008 (BST)
Dude
Yeh, you might know the answers to my two questions.
1. Why do some of Finis' edits not show up in recent changes? For example, his recent comment on the Vandal Banning page. 2. Why does his Sig link to his Talk page and not to his user page, and is this legal?
--CyberRead240 08:44, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- No idea...as that change is no longer recent i can't check what you said so i'd either say you were mistaken and it was there, or if you're sure it wasn't, check with Karek, he's my source for all things wiki.
- Is answered here. So yes he can have his talk page instead of his front page.--xoxo 11:16, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
see look check now he has made a few edits to talk pages etc and nothing has come up on the recent changes page. --CyberRead240 07:18, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- no, it shows up fine for me.
m User talk:Finis Valorum; 18:12 . . (-99) . . Finis Valorum (Talk | contribs) (Undo revision 1086571 by Special:Contributions/J3D (User talk:J3D)) is right there, and it all matches up with his contribs, sorry read i think you're a tad paranoid :P --xoxo 07:21, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- AGH! I swear to god its not coming up for me. He just revised what Nick said on his page, and it didn't come up again. I'll screen shot it even!--CyberRead240 10:54, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- NOW! If you look at this screenshot, you will see Nicks Ball Sack message left on finis page and it will be highlighted. Look above it, and no sign of anything Finis does. Now, is it possible that they can ban me from seeing someones edits as a result of a conflict way way way in the past? If so, thats shitty.--CyberRead240 11:02, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

RE:BBK News edit
Yeah, it was a pretty slow news day yesterday. Hahah.--CyberRead240 07:32, 30 March 2008 (BST)
About the Finis VB case
If you scroll through the edits, directly after Finis changed the context of Nicks comment, Nick changed his comment to "about you being homo" or something, which was effectively asking the exact same question. Nick posted "editing for clarity" in his edit summary, which is perfectly legal according to a previous arbitration case I read involving Conndraka. Finis then changed what Nick wrote, leaving it stamped with Nicks signature. I have posted this under your VB attempt on Finis. Hope it will add some weight to the discussion.--CyberRead240 13:37, 1 April 2008 (BST)
- cool thanks. don't post on there anymore til a sysop comes and if you could dig up the page where the Conndraka thing happened that'd be handy.--xoxo 13:42, 1 April 2008 (BST)
- It was Conndraka or Corlone. Something with C. It just stuck out in my memory because I knew it would come in handy one day.--CyberRead240 13:43, 1 April 2008 (BST)
Help
Hey, umm, do you know how to make a signature?--{{User:Nitro378/Sig}} 05:08, 3 April 2008 (BST)
- Actually not really, but if you want a relatively basic one, try here, if you want more complex then that look at other peoples sig code or ask someone like this guy, i think he knows about sigs and what not.--xoxo 05:16, 3 April 2008 (BST)
- No, i just mean like put a sig you have onto your name... I put the link in my preferences like the faq says, but it just shows this
>>>> --{{User:Nitro378/Sig}} 05:41, 3 April 2008 (BST)
Nope- this is my sig now... --{{SUBST:Nosubst|User:Nitro378/Sig}} 06:53, 3 April 2008 (BST)

Damn them sigs |
This user doesn't like sig templates and prefers an oldschool non-templated sig (and contributes to reducing server load by using one). |
Oh well, thanks anyway. --{{SUBST:Nosubst|User:Nitro378/Sig}} 07:23, 3 April 2008 (BST)
- It's because you copied the code from an edit version of the instructions on help page. The {{This is hex code, you can see the difference when editing are done there to keep the page from actually triggering it. That and I believe you might not have clicked the Raw Signature checkbox. Make sure that checkbox is marked and then replace your signature in the line with {{SUBST:Nosubst|User:Nitro378/Sig}}(only copy the stuff between the nowiki tags). That should output Nitro378 T JNL when you sign.--Karekmaps?! 10:36, 3 April 2008 (BST)
Hey Jed can you tell me what's the wiki code to make "the hand" become a crosshair when you move the mouse over your sig? Any other diferent types of "crosshairs"? --Obi + Talk!|TZH|MDK 12:14, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- Try here. Scroll over the what the last guy said and you can see all the different cursors available. If you go to edit the page you can see the code required. My sig can be found here so you should be able to get the right code outa there. I actually suck at sigs so i can't really help you beyond that, good luck!--xoxo 06:27, 12 April 2008 (BST)

Arkansas
Well, that's better. I think what you really need to do is decide on a proper title for a page that contains all of the nicknames for that area. Perhaps calling it by the most common nickname, if there exists one, or maybe calling it "Nicknames for Arkham". Then you can change all these other pages into actual redirects, because disambiguation pages are really annoying. It would also probably deal with the deletion issues, as people aren't likely to try to delete valid redirects as long as the page they go to is quality. Brought this to your talk page so we're not chasing each other across all the talk pages of the wiki. Feel free to reply here or on my talk page. --PdeqTalk* 11:33, 7 April 2008 (BST)
- Yeah thats a valid point, i hate disambig pages. Perhaps the Arkham page could be used or the Nicknames for Arkham, i'll consult others who have created/worked on/provided creative inspiration for the page to see if the idea takes old. In the mean time i'm sorta having fun spammin' up RC...--xoxo 11:36, 7 April 2008 (BST)
- The sooner you make such a page (the Arkham one would be fine by me), the better, since I think they're all going to end up on the Deletions page in the meantime. When you do make such a page and turn all the others into redirects, you may want to let me know as I will probably be changing my votes on those pages. I'm leaving my delete votes up for now though. Would also be interesting to have some data on how common each nickname is. I don't have a character in the area, so I'd be interested to know which names I could actually use should I ever wander over there and not have people ask me what the heck that term means. --PdeqTalk* 11:41, 7 April 2008 (BST)

Is that more like what you want? If not I'll need more specific details. Belated Thank You
Hey I was just looking through some of my older suggestions (ie, suggestions from last week - hey I've only been wiki-ing for 1 1/2 weeks after all) and I totally missed the fact that in one of my earliest suggestions that I had made, even though you had voted kill, you were nevertheless very supportive of my making more suggestions and you hoped to see me at Talk:Discussion in the future. I thanked other people who had given me a kind reception at Suggestions and I totally didn't thank you. So thank you and sorry for not realizing it for 10 days :) So what's your opinion of my more recent suggestions - improving on how I'm making them, balance-wise? :) See you at Airborne's hangman when he thinks up another word on which to use my Grand Ninja Master hangman skills.--Tselita 23:02, 11 April 2008 (BST)
- hehe, thats ok! Thanks for coming back and thanking me, sorry 'bout the kill vote though...I can't think what any of your recent suggs have been and i only comment on the ones on the talk page that both interest me and no one before has said everything i need to say. Although mostly i read through them and comment. Yeah i missed the last hangman, you really gotta be on when he's doing it or its all over...--xoxo 06:29, 12 April 2008 (BST)

It looked good from my end - I'll have to toy around with it a little more when I get the chance. Thanks for letting me know ;)
--Fifth Element 09:40, 14 April 2008 (BST)
- Awww the pink thing looked good, but then you did one more edit and the whole thing died with the left toolbar moved to the bottom of the page and your urbandead logo (top left) was covering the Fifth Element header...also, do you like the movie fifth element? And i commented you on myspace :) --xoxo 09:47, 14 April 2008 (BST)
- That was spectacularly awesome, I'll see if I can figure out exactly what did it for future use, I've never seen that happen before.--Karekmaps?! 11:07, 14 April 2008 (BST)
- All you(Fifth) need to do is close the table at the end(add |} to the very bottom). You can see a copy of the code here, I didn't close the two open div tags. And it might be best to use a different font, I don't know what it comes out to for you but for me it's this and it's near impossible to read.--Karekmaps?! 11:19, 14 April 2008 (BST)

- I know what you have done is wrong, but I am fairly sure that you have not broken any rules...I mean, you didn't create any page, you discussed on a page that didn't exist. I mean, I think you have just found a loophole. I'd like to see the rules that state "one may not post on the discussion page of a non-existent page" because I think thats the only way you should really get in trouble here.--CyberRead240 14:41, 20 April 2008 (BST)

- Yeah i'd like to know specifically what the problem is but i'm getting mixed vague answers. I think its the fact that its offensive. Ie, its fine to post a page User Talk:Finis Valorum/Santlerville and ask about the status of Santerville at the moment.--xoxo 09:02, 21 April 2008 (BST)
- Stop being willfully ignorant. If you want to contact a user, you use their talk page (ie. User Talk:Finis Valorum), not some randomly named talk page that is not attached to any of their user pages. How the fuck do you expect people to find User Talk:Finis Valorum/Santlerville unless they see it created on Special:Recentchanges or in your contributions? Don't create subpages in other users namespace, and this includes talk pages that arn't attached to sub pages that the user themselves has created -- boxy talk • i 12:41 21 April 2008 (BST)

You asked TheMCC what he meant by "suitable for any free man" which he keeps putting on the crowbar description. I googled it and found on the wiki page for Gordon Freeman that it is a reference to Half-Life 2. Internal linking
I see how you are making text links but I'm just using the "internal link" button. Let me [try.] Hmm, is it supposed to look like this? - Ok, don't worry about the buttons. You use the wiki enough that you should be able to remember all the stuff. To internal link you do this [[Great Fire|an awesome page]], if you want to external link (which can also be used for internal link but generally isn't coz it looks uglier you can do this [http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Great_Fire an awesome page]. Note the single bracket and the space instead of a vertical line. I didn't fully understand your post so hopefully that answers it.--xoxo 07:47, 21 May 2008 (BST)

Once upon a time, there was a girl who was bored at work. Nothing to do. Watched all the Foamy the Squirrel web cartoons. Read all her webcomics. Craigslist was blocked from work, but she didn't like it anyway. Read a ton of stuff on Wikipedia so she now knows all sorts of things about the universe, Planck's constant, Doctor Who, and Marvel/DC/Image comics. Used up all her AP points in a few minutes instead of doing what she usually does and making it last the whole day.

Sandpit
Is that page your personal sandpit or is it supposed to be a glossary page defining the term sandpit? Or is it propaganda for your ALiM? Or all of the above? Just curious. I'd like to throw a category on it to get it off the list.--– Nubis NWO 00:17, 19 July 2008 (BST)
- It is the equivalent of the Sandbox but for users who are more comfortable with the term 'Sandpit'. The fact that it has been spammed with ALiM propaganda and no one has bothered to clear it is purely coincidental ;) --xoxo 07:04, 19 July 2008 (BST)

Oh Noes
I guess a total and utter vote of confidence from the UD wiki users will not bring about any change. Guess we are stuck with the same old-same old one sided runnings for a long time to come. Good effort though--CyberRead240 14:50, 27 July 2008 (BST)
- A whole bunch of vouches from your clique of buddies with little to no arguments in your favour does not overrule the facts. Its not a vote, just a sounding board for peoples opinions to see if a user is trusted or not. It doesnt matter if they are trusted, if they are still disruptive jerks who on one hand commit acts of vandalism while denying any wrongdoing while at the same time harrassing that same user for any percieved rule breakage on A/VB, they are not a person who should be ruling on vandalism cases at all. Your bid has thus been rejected. Theres a whole bunch of other reasons on the page. --The Grimch U! E! 14:57, 27 July 2008 (BST)
- Going by that however, this basically means that the power to promote does not belong to the community in general, but rather to the two 'crats. A user could receive nothing but vouches and still be turned down by the attending 'crat. Why have the community discussion in the first place? -- Cheese 15:00, 27 July 2008 (BST)
- 1. I am taking the piss 2. Your "clique buddies" statement is predictable, but misguided, I think it was only Nick, myself and Shakey who voted who have any real affiliation with Jed? Nick gave a great reason why and he is a valued member of our community. I had my reasons why, but I felt I was best left out of it because it would be discounted anyway, considering my relationship with Jed. Seriously, it is very narrow minded to use this clique excuse, and I think you know that Grim. 3. I accept and totally agree with your decision, as stated on the promotions page.--CyberRead240
- If you do a count, cheese, you will see that the split was closer than you think. Its not a vote, but a request for opinions. Thus any decision should be made on the facts and the strengths of the arguments presented. The Pro-J3D cam--Piskus99 10:56, 28 July 2008 (BST)p presented no arguments of consequence, and there were a number of glaring holes in his bid. If a person had unanimous support, he is extremely unlikely to be turned down in anything but the most exceptional of circumstances. This was no such case. If it were to be done on simple majority of people in favour of the promotion, then it would simply be a vote, and one that could easily be meatpuppeted and swamped by cliques. The purpose of promotions is not to promote people who are popular, but people who are fit for the job. In this case, J3D's fitness was was more than simply questionable. You want to whine cheese? Fine. --The Grimch U! E! 15:12, 27 July 2008 (BST)
- I'm not whining. Like Read, I'm not arguing with your judgement. I personally would have ruled that way myself if I was 'crat. I'm only pointing the flaw with the system as it stands. -- Cheese 15:15, 27 July 2008 (BST)
- No. Unfortunately you are whining. Let me explain how it is the case. Were it simply your complaints about a flaw with the system you and others would have had this out long ago, years ago even. What we have here is you, like MichaelRead, do not like my decision in the circumstances, but i made it so thoroughly impervious to assault, with a highly detailed explaination and multiple sources, that you cant actually do anything about it directly without looking like a bunch of overt whiners. And so you instead start the attack on this front. Its highly disingenuous. --The Grimch U! E! 15:28, 27 July 2008 (BST)

All of you gtfo my talk page. This isn't some forum for the discussion on the failings of the wiki. Also i agree with Wan, if you aren't aware that the power to promote lies completely in the hands of the 2 crats and that the promotion 'discussion time' is merely for them to make up their minds in the unlikely event they hadn't already you should be. The only real say the other sysops and all other users get in the promotion process if the crat elections, choose wisely ;) --xoxo 07:44, 28 July 2008 (BST)

Man I feel so fucking sorry for you
Fuck Grim is a twat. Lost all respect I ever had for him for his actions towards you. A 'crat is supposed to deal with smooth runnings of the wiki, all he does is flame. Totally the wrong person for the job. I can't believe that a person of the highest order on this wiki would vilify a user for defending themselves over an overtly harsh rejection on a promotion bid. Honestly he is fucking worthless, and I for one think that your promotion application has done good for this wiki. It has allowed users to see that they have chosen the wrong person for the job, and they will consider this when his position comes up for review. Making a title like that on the talk page just proves his one-set mind, that is not what a sysop or a 'crat does to a user. I find it ridiculous that he is on this high horse. I for one regret my decision on voting him in as 'crat. He will no doubt reply to this with big words with little substance, in his usual better than thou manner. (Although, he probably will avoid it because I have said that he will reply).
I feel your promotion bid did not deserve acceptance, as I am sure you did too. But the way you were treated for sticking up for yourself is a blatant example of why we need someone like you as a sysop. We need to rub out those who think that holding a position of power on this wiki makes them a superior being, and we need to do it fast. I feel a fucking petition coming on....--CyberRead240 11:53, 28 July 2008 (BST)
- Moreso, I would like to make it clear to anyone that reads this, that I am not bitter at Jeds unsuccessful promotion bid, I am bitter at the handling of the situation by both Sysops, and the treatment of Jed by Grim.--CyberRead240 11:55, 28 July 2008 (BST)
- Le sigh. I could, perhaps, have handled the matter better, but when one person completely fails to understand what was written, and instead goes into super defensiveness mode and assumes everything there is a personal attack, drastic steps need to be taken. You can feel free to change the title J3D if you so like. I freely admit to being tired and annoyed at your completely baseless personal attacks in your post, and i pulled the plug on it. Thankfully, as to the rest of this drivel. I do not care what you think MichealRead. you were immediately biased in favour of J3D right at the start, so of course you are going to believe he has the right to lob flames at me just because i did not approve his bid. Last night you said you couldnt find fault with it. So where does this magical "Defending himself from attacks" come from? you'd have called me on it yesterday if you had found this magically appearing fantasy. --The Grimch U! E! 12:55, 28 July 2008 (BST)
- My comment was directed at Jed, not at you. If you really do wish to seek clarification of my comments, you should have brought this to my user space. For starters, if you are going to accuse me of being biased in favour of Jed, then I have every right to accuse you of being biased against him, but if you care to read ALL of the posts I have made, I have never once challenged your integrity, until you decided to mouth off at him. Also your "quote" of mine, where did you get the word "attacks" from? Don't make shit up. All I have said Grim, is that Jed had every right to question your decision. Even if he has no point to make or prove, he still has every right to question it. You don't have the right to go and make ridiculous headers and comments vilifying him for exercising his right as a wiki user, to question the decision of a Sysop. I am RL friends with everyone in the whole BBK "clique" you speak of, and to ask any of them, while I was a supporter of Jed as a sysop (I feel it would really be beneficial to both him and the wiki), I knew and accepted a long time ago that nobody with Jeds V/B record (no matter how jocular in fashion) would ever get a promotion on any level. Not once did I truly expect Jed to become a sysop. So don't go making up shit anymore Grim. I have stated that I agree with your decision and I would have done the same thing on numerous occasions. For you to not take my word means two things. 1 - You are the biased one against anyone with any association to the abbreviations ALiM or BBK, and 2 - You are not fit to deal with members of the wiki community. He DOES have the right to "lob flames" at you, in a controlled promotions section, or on your userspace, but nowhere in the world does creating intentionally controversial headings for the sole purpose of causing drama mean anything other than poor form. What you have failed to understand is that I am not questioning the outcome of your decision. I guess that your biased mindset is clouding your better judgment. Oh, and btw, its Michael*.--CyberRead240 15:19, 28 July 2008 (BST)

Grim, i'll reply to what you wrote here, then i consider the matter over. You made your decision, i'm fine with it, you made dickheady headings moving only half the conversation, i moved it back to the main page where it can be archived if you want. But please leave the whole bid there, not just the bits you like. Also, can you please read what i wrote in response to your decision on a/pm again because i just reread it and it is so far from the lobbing flames and personal attacks you made it out to be. I didn't even question your decision. All i did was point out where you were either misled or giving the wrong impression of my actions or where you were ranting about crats.
Reading it again all i can get out of it is how unreasonable you are. Where i've said "wow, we disagree, so what?" you've gone off about how wrong my view is. If you're trying to say in a round-about-way that's why you don't want me being a sysop you succeeded, but i'm fairly sure that wasn't your intention. Anyway i had thought you'd make a good crat because you wouldn't just let your buddies through and despite you being incredibly pig headed and short tempered i've always thought of you as vaguely fair - which is why i find it odd that while there's currently a general accepted shortage of sysops you turn down the promotion of two very different, neither perfect but supported candidates. None of this requires a reply so don't bother if you don't want to, however if you do - feel free.--xoxo 23:31, 28 July 2008 (BST)
- Idiot. There is nothing left being undone, tasks are getting done in a timely manner. There is no shortasge of sysops. There is the same number of active sysops as always. And even if we were short on sysops, i still wouldnt promote people who arent fit to do the fucking job. You made a number of erroneous assumptions because you were entirely on the defensive, and thus took some things that were intended ads general reminders to the wiki populace as attacks towards yourself, to which you responded: }}Quote|J3D|More response rant - i have never (seriously) used the finis is a zerger excuse as reason for my vandalism against him. To say that is to totally undermine me and go out of your way to be an asshole.}} I have already explained how the assumption was false, and shall not waste my time doing it again. If you are too stupid to see that, then tough shit. As for the bid, once the decision was made the matter was over. Any further chatter belongs on the talk page. --The Grimch U! E! 02:46, 29 July 2008 (BST)
- A glance around various talk/admin pages demonstrates that many other sysops and members of the community disagree with you on the sysop shortage issue. Not sure why you brought my finis comment back up, but sure, why not. And see my edit summary regarding the a/pm talk page.--xoxo 07:40, 29 July 2008 (BST)

Soft Warning
Keep your spam off the main A/VB page. Unless you have something remarkably helpful to add, keep your hands off. This has come up several times now, most recently in your promotions bid. I am taking action now. This is an official Cease and Desist notice. Failure to comply may very well result in you being put through the system yourself. If you feel you absolutely must contribute, then by all means do so, but do so in the correct place. The TALK page. Sysops have the page on their watchlist, and when checking their watchlists they will notice alterations to the talk page and see whats going on, especially if there is a new header. And, if that fails to appease you, feel free to add a little notice that reads "Discussion on talk" at the BOTTOM of the case. --The Grimch U! E! 15:53, 31 July 2008 (BST)

- Make a real policy for this, get it passed and i will happily comply.
- I was pointing out that i had approached the guy on his talk page as i felt there was ambiguity surrounding his vandalism. Then i found out there wasn't and said so. The last comment was not zomgz direly important but i needed a refresher on policy, should have gone to a sysop talk page but meh, i didn't.
- All of this is irrelevant because i didn't break policy. And before you say i'm just butthurt, i have always said that soft warnings are meaningless drivel, you can hardly say me posting on that page letting other users know i have asked him what he's doing is bad faith.--xoxo 01:03, 2 August 2008 (BST)

Soft Warning 2
Dear User, you have received a soft warning for your post on my talk page. While it is legal, I do not agree with it, so I am going to give you a soft warning in hope that you will never cross me again. Actually, I am doing it so that it looks like I am better than you, and that I win. There is nothing you can do about this, if you choose to ask me about the legality involved, I will not reply, you should just know so. Failure to follow these instructions will result in another Soft Warning. Who knows what that will do to your escalation, just don't ask me. I've already told you I wont reply. Have a nice day.--CyberRead240 08:25, 4 August 2008 (BST)

We like to do stuff like post "reports" along the lines of MOB strike reports, but ideally with LOLz. Seriously, the best thing is to do most of our stuff on IRC, yeah... But the forums are an important secondary medium... And also where, other than in-game, we can do RP-ish stuff. Also... we have the best colour palettes in all UD... and cool siggies, too...
