Suggestion scope
Zombies, Tangling Grasp Subskill

Suggestion description
I've always wanted something in UD that simulates that classic zombie genre scene where a victim is grabbed by multiple zombies and torn from all sides. I suggest the following:

Crushing Grasp would be a zombie attack skill to do just that. It would give a new Crushing Grasp attack to use against survivors you have a Tangling Grasp on. This attack is meant to be a sign-off kind of attack, the last hit you land before logging off for a long period of time.

This attack would deal 1 damage at 50% accuracy. If successful you grasp onto the survivor with a painfully tight hold. Performing any other action releases this grip, except another successful Crushing Grasp attack.

What Crushing Grasp does is it causes your firm grip to harm the survivor if other zombies attack them. Any attack another zombie deals to your victim has a 10% chance of dealing 1 additional damage because of the tug of war going on between you and the new zed. And if someone you have a Crushing Grasp on is taken outside with Feeding Drag they take 3 damage as they're literally ripped from your grasp.

In total this gives the next zombie attacking your victim an average 6-7 additional damage from bonus damage and dragging (3-4 if they don't drag them outside).

Crushing Grasp is useless for killing survivors personally, but as a horde skill its very useful. It gives the next zombie a leg up. Of course if the building is barricaded back up or you're headshotted before another zombie arrives then you end up doing 2 less damage, but that's a risk you take in choosing to use Crushing Grasp. It's a tactical decision based on whether you think zombie reinforcements will arrive in time AND choose to attack your target (which is likely if you've injured them already).

The other zombie would be able to tell when they get bonus damage "As your pull your victim from another zombie they take 1 damage". Nobody would get xp for this bonus damage or feeding drag damage because it'd be unfair for the zombie doing the Crushing Grasp to get potentially infinite xp if the survivor is healed and attacked repeatedly. More than one zombie can have a Crushing Grasp on a single survivor but the percentages don't stack.

Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Keep Votes

  1. I think this is a good team skill for zombies. Lay in a death grip on a target with your last AP before logging out and with luck you'll have helped the next zombie dispatch them. --Jon Pyre 04:01, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Keep- w00t! Hooray for classic zombie genre stuff! --Darth LumisT! A! E! FU! 04:01, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. keep - Wow, you suggested something I think might work and not be extremely annoying, bully for you.--Karekmaps?! 04:31, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Keep - I'll buy that. --The Hierophant 05:32, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

  6. Keep - Might work. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 09:03, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Keep - Neat idea, very in-genre. --Pgunn 15:26, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. Keep - While I am a survivor sympathizer, I think this is a very cool skill--Rictor Stilwell 16:36, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  9. Keep - Neat idea, very in-genre. -- UCFSD 16:57, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  10. Finally! - Zombies are supposed to be deadly in groups, not individually, of course. This encourages zeds to work in groups. Glenstone 17:19, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  11. Keep - I love it - somewhat onesided, but this is an example of a perfect suggestion - it adds flavor and variety while not giving too much of a buff. And its not overcomplicated - zombie A grabs a guy, zombie B gets a bonus.--Wooty 19:00, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Re Damn it, that would have been a great title for this suggestion! --Jon Pyre 19:05, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

  14. Keep - But, take it to talk... BoboTalkClown 23:54, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  15. Keep Rename it Zombie A grabs, Zombie B eats for luck! --Karloth Vois RR 01:06, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
  16. Keep/Change!!! - Great idea, as long as there is a cap on it, you don't want 15 zombies pulling on one person at the same time, a 4 zombie cap sounds okay to me... -------WOOT 02:40, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Re As is while there is no limit to how many zombies can grab a person, the bonus doesn't stack. So someone is equally screwed with 5 zombies as 1. Having more means that if a zombie gets killed though then there's a backup to maintain the bonus. --Jon Pyre 14:55, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
  17. Keep - Super special awesome. --Trunksoul 03:37, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
  18. Keep ~ I like the Idea but the name is silly, if you are tearing a person apart you are not crushing. --Loop Ho Tep 04:53, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Re Well, technically this zombie is just holding on. Maybe Firm Grasp? Or Unyielding Grasp? --Jon Pyre 14:55, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
  19. Keep As I survivor I have to say this would be an interesting skill to have in play. --Blanemcc 10:27, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
  20. Keep Great idea. I think it would add a lot to the game and gets a definate keep.--Rjkk 16:50, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
  21. Keep - Boost for the zombies and a nice Xmas present for mall tour '08... --Heretic144 01:16, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Overpowered and Overcomplicated. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 05:54, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - Some good ideas, unfortunatley mixed in with some degree of auto-attack. Please, take it to talk. --SeventythreeTalk 09:20, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Re I don't think it qualifies as an auto-attack because it requires you to spend AP to set up the grabbed status. It isn't like priming a survivor to autoshoot any zombie that enters. You spend AP to give a survivor a grabbed status condition, and that gives them defensive penalties. I think this is equivalent to abilities in games that let you weaken an enemy's armor so further attacks cause more damage or do something that provides a buff to allies. --Jon Pyre 14:59, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Auto attack, and sort of a free action while you're away. I wouldn't mind it if it was during a real time attack where both zombies attacking at once -- boxytalk • 10:36 19 November 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - I just don't like the look of this one. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 10:56, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Kill I like it but not enough. If it was a skill with this logic that simply caused 1 extra damage everytime you broke someone elses tangling grasp then yes but as is it just doesn't sit right! --Honestmistake 11:10, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  6. Kill - As per Honestmistake. This has the potential to be a brilliant suggestion, but it is not there yet... Please take it to Talk... --WanYao 14:16, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Kill - As that fine legal firm, Grim, Honest and Wan --Pavluk A! E! 15:08, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. Kill - No auto attacks. --Druuuuu 18:50, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  9. Kill - Auto attack, a bit overcomplicated. I just don't like this one.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 21:36, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  10. Kill - I too think that this has a cool premise obstructed by not-quite-there mechanics. I would love to see this worked out, because you're right - some of the coolest deaths in Romero's movies are when the survivor is pulled to pieces and all the zombies go to town on their innards.--Sarah Silverman 21:50, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  11. Kill - Automatic attacks are not good, and it is a tad complicated. --Z. slay3r Talk  00:38, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
  12. Kill - It's a promising start. Remove it and take it over to the developing suggestions page, and we'll help you fix it up into something even better. --Steakfish 03:19, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
  13. Kill - No auto attacks; I agree with AHLG, et al. --Ryiis 15:33, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
  14. Kill - Grim, WanYao, etc. --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! 20:38, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
  15. Kill - Lone zombies wandering around Malton being headshotted every day should be given more attention than the shitloads that do nothing but sit outside malls and stand up.--Cap'n Silly T/W/P/CAussieflag.JPG 06:23, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
  16. Kill Auto-attack, additionally as Grim. --Karlsbad 19:38, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam This doesn't have any zerg potential does it? Omega 04:10, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Everything has zerg potential, even graffiti has zerg potential.--Karekmaps?! 04:31, 19 November 2007 (UTC) Non-author reply struck. --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! 09:04, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
    • Re Not really, it doesn't help zergers out more than any other zombie attack skill (technically every skill has zerg potential because every skill can make each character a person has more powerful, but that's just the way things are). --Jon Pyre 14:55, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Spoon - "When I log off, I'd like to tie a bit of string to the trigger of my shotgun, and create a strange and mystical web of strings in the room. Whenever anyone else in the room attacks a zombie, whilst I'm logged off, they trip over my strings, causing my shotgun to auto-blast the zombie for an extra 3 damage, and reload my gun, and do it again." No auto-attacks. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 09:05, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. (^_^) = Foon = This suggestion is like Funt Solo's Spoon with infinte shells.Which mean,A foonful of SPAM --Perne 14:05, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. This suggestion sounds like a suggestion Mr. A has summited. Knowing Mr. A, I believe it's in Rejected, but can't be bothered to look for it. So...I'm with Funt. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 20:16, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Super-spam -Hmm, where to start? Zerg, auto-attack, zombies do F***in' NOT need any more horde advantages...--AlexanderRM 00:13, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
