20071217 New landscapes: Desert/Beach

Druuuuu OcTRR 19:23, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion type
New block(s)

Suggestion scope
Everyone, specifically Malton

Suggestion description
I'd like to preface this suggestion by saying that I don't want to try and majorly restructure Malton. This suggestion is for two new types of blocks. I'm not going to tell Kevan how or when to add them, or what flavor to use. I imagine he knows what he wants to do with the game, and I would like to ask that you vote on the quality of the idea, and not the feasibility of adding them to Malton as-is.

Anyway, if you noticed, there is a fascinating new mechanic added to the game recently. Snow. Now, I am a big fan of this, and I want to expand the mechanic in another way: Sand.

Desert: Same as a normal snow-covered block, except the snow mechanic is permanent. There can be buildings there, or not. You may be saying "Wow, that will be really useless after about a day." Hear me out.

You'll be able to hear the wind gust, if you're inside or out. For those concerned about spam, you'll only see the most recent gust. The gust will reset the sand in your block. This could happen anywhere between 6-12 hours since the last gust. The blood mechanic can stay too, and will be reset with each gust.

Beach: The same as a desert, the tide will come in and wash the footprints/blood away at a set time each day. Of course, the beach will be adjacent to water.

The footprints in the sand would last until the gust/tide reset.

Again, I'm not going to make up a story about how these could get implemented. A new city set in the middle east, or Vegas, or hell, even an explosion at a sand factory. But I believe these two spaces could be very interesting and add a whole new level of strategy into the game.

SMALL EDIT: I forgot to add searches, sorry. At the time of edit, there were three Keep votes, one being mine. This is a response to Rosslessness' vote.

Searches:

Desert with building: Being a residential area, the same type of things we find on an average block here.

Desert w/o building: Nothing. It is a desert.

Beach: Bottles of alcohol, knives, and instead of newspapers, seashells, which can be used as decoration (2% enc)

Clothing:

Desert with building: Nothing special.

Beach: Swim trunks.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Author Keep. I'm not sure how it would fit in Malton as is, but they sound quite fun to me. --Druuuuu OcTRR 19:26, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Keep - I'd love to shoot zombies at the beach.--GunFox13 19:26, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Keep My curiousness is sated.--Rosslessness 19:35, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Keepshhh/change - We shall fight them on the beaches! , but where would they be, the only feasable place would be around the areas of the River Kevan and have it running through the streets I guess. Other than that it's a nice flavour addition, but you'd have to make sure that the desert would cover those area bits moreso due to the closeness of the beach, ie sand and that the beach would not make accessible any means of escape...for now. Acoustic Pie 19:45, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. Weak Keep - Not a bad idea, although Malton may not have room for them if not expanded. --Pgunn 19:56, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Keep - More nice little suggestions like this please! Made me smile.--SeventythreeTalk 20:17, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  7. Keep - because I keep vote good Ideas--CorndogheroT-S-Z 20:31, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  8. Keep - I prefer my own Fallback suggestion (and have you seen my river?), but those would be churlish reasons to vote against this, which is, after all, a bit like my ideas, but both wetter and dryer. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 21:52, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
For we shall munch in the beahces, or in the city streets, we shall not surrender!!- I love the idea!!! zombies love it in the beahces, especially in summer Unsigned vote struck. --Banana reads Scoundrell for all of Yesterday's News, Today! 22:16, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  9. Keep - Meh... Sure... I don't see nothin' wrong with it... BoboTalkClown 22:40, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  10. Keep - Check out my new beach house, but more types of environments would be nice. --BlobdudeTalk TM MC 00:09, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  11. Keep - Alright. --Heretic144 00:50, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  12. Keep - Even though it is terraforming, it does seem kinda fun. --Bring The Pain!Anti Gorefest5Fight The Pain!TMW!B! 00:54, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  13. Keep- Flavorrrrrrr --Darth LumisT! A! E! SR 01:50, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  14. Keep - It's good, although no one's sure whether Malton's in Britain, the U.S.A, or in the world's first trans-continental city, so I'm not sure how these would be implemented. --Private Mark 03:01, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  15. Iffy Keep - -- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 22:16, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
  16. keep m- I love the idea, we will fight the harmens in the city streeets and beaches!!!--Worthog117 20:08, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - I am in kill mode. I do not like this terraforming suggestion.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 23:10, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - We can't have that on the current map we have. We'd have to either enlarge it or massively reshape it. --Calypso 23:18, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill - I don't really get the desert thing. I never pictured Malton as desert-y or Middle Eastern-y. -J. A. 00:19, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Kill - Beaches and deserts don't fit well into the geography of the UK. --Z. slay3r Talk  00:20, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. Kill - Ponds and parks I can deal with, but no oceans and deserts in the middle of our city. --PdeqTalk* 01:15, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Kill - doesn't fit the current flavour of Malton, at all -- boxy talki 01:55 18 December 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - Technically speaking, it's a creative outlook, but if you consider any possible expansion of the city in the future, don't you think it would be rather weird to add more blocks beyond the beach? ~AriedartinTalkA KS J abt all 17:57, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  8. Kill - can't really see beach or desert fitting in to Malton. However, I do think you're on to something with having an area which permanently has the footprint mechanics. How about wastelands? The ground could be dusty or muddy depending on season. --Pavluk A! E! 18:17, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  9. kill - malton isn't a desert, and there is no place for beaches, it doesn't make sense. --WanYao 09:59, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
  10. Kill - There aren't any bodies of water either. Also, the current Snow mechanics are good, but totally useless in large parts of the game. Maybe something with freshest footsteps and I'd vote better. --Vandurn 14:51, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

Spam - if you don't want it added to this game, then why suggest it? (Also, I've never imagined Malton as being a seaside resort, or in the desert. So, this isn't my flavour.) --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 20:25, 17 December 2007 (UTC) Vote changed, due to dawning realisation of own fallibility. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 21:52, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  1. Spam - I'm with Funt regarding Malton not being a seaside resort or in a desert. Let's keep it Urban Dead, not Suburban Sea Side Desert Dead --Ryiis 21:07, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Spam - No deserts in big cities, no beachs through the walls.--Karekmaps?! 00:37, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. spam - Can we have a Dark Black Demon door that opens into the fiery pits of Hades? No? Why not? Becasuse it doesnt fit into the zombie genre. Too many idiots will be trying to make rafts and sail away to safety. -doc crook 04:12, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Spam - There is not even a geography debate here - not all of Malton city is quarantined, perhaps only the center and inner suburbs are. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 07:40, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. Look Ma! I see the ocean from here! Oh wait...I need to find a way over these walls... --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 21:01, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
