I certainly will miss his witty repertoire, the way he systematically decimates a point with his seamless logic, the unarguable confidence in the purity of his conviction. Oh what a loss of the weighty input he brought to the wiki on a daily basis, however will we cope in the absence of his discerning glare? This should go back on the page. I don't think it is confusing at all (obviously, because I think I'm originally the one who started putting the current time on elections), if you do, perhaps you should find some way to make it clearer, rather than removing it all together. It is a useful piece of information that saves people from having to find out the server time some other way, to tell when a vote is over -- boxy 21:30, 29 August 2011 (BST)
- I don't know that I can agree with that assessment looking at the results since it's been implemented. It's the only significant thing that changed to cause people to mistakenly vote up to a week past the "deadline"(which before it used to just be the day not x absurd hour). As a user who made that mistake himself unintentionally I can at least verify it is extremely easy to do. Also we really shouldn't be setting essentially random server times for vote ends anyway so the whole thing really probably shouldn't exist, it doesn't bring anything positive to the system other than a date of completion. --Karekmaps 2.0?! 21:57, 29 August 2011 (BST)

scott-directed Blade Runner sequel. Thoughts? -- ϑanceϑanceℜevolution 05:56, 21 August 2011 (BST)
- Please, oh please, don't let him make it into an Aliens vs. Predator vs. Replicants!
Personally, I don't see that anything needs adding to the original (well, not the original... but the cut where he went back and rejiggered it, esp. the end), and I'm not sure that such film noir would sell any better these days, than the original did. Seems like cashing in on a classic name, yet again. I hope it's done properly, for the sake of name, but wont be expecting much. Cynical, eh ;) -- boxy 06:55, 21 August 2011 (BST)
- I agree. I think it has more potential than other unnecessary remakes but yeah... -- ϑanceϑanceℜevolution 10:56, 21 August 2011 (BST)
- Remake or sequel? 'Cause I'm pretty sure it was a book first. --Karekmaps 2.0?! 12:29, 21 August 2011 (BST)
- Crap, don't know why I said remake. It's a sequel, but is set in the same universe with no real ties to the first one (no harrison ford, etc). So I dunno hey. -- ϑanceϑanceℜevolution 13:50, 21 August 2011 (BST)
- I'd be expecting a prequel, probably amongst the c-beams, near the tannhauser gate. A sequel about the coming replicant revolution/human rights movement wouldn't fit with the theme of the blade runner being pseudo-anti-hero character, pushing the profession to the clearly evil, IMO. Any other sequel would be just more of the same, with little to no hope of living up to the standard of the original for existing fans.
I don't like sequels and prequels much. Good ones are rare... and if a good one is made, it just encourages the dollars to be kept pumping in until they start making shockers. Case in point, Alien --> Aliens = great... then it starts going off the track until they end up with that bastardised AvP bullshite. Humourous suggestions change
I cycled your Suggestions Policy Change as successful but I wasn't 100% certain of the changes needed to these cycling instructions. It's just a matter of removing one category and adding another, right? When voting closes, which template is added? {{rejected}}? ~ 08:43, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
- There is no need to close voting once a suggestion has been moved to the humourous section. Other than the ones deemed to be vandalism, they've always been left open indefinitely. Actually, we could probably look at re-opening those suggestions too, and removing the {{notfunny}} template -- boxy 09:49, 14 August 2011 (BST)
- Ugh there's like 30 of them. Also it was discussed during voting that this policy change wouldn't retroactively negate past escalations. Reopening them now would open a can of worms in that regard I think.
- So other than the change you made, is there anything else to update on Cycling Instructions? ~ 17:53, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Bot Banning
I think removing the reports would be the easier scenario, but unfortunately, I think we need to, unless a normal user one day gets caught in the net and we need to make sure they aren't improperly banned. Iirc, a bot reported recently hadn't actually vandalised yet, and had only just been created, so if this happens again (except a sysop does it, and it isn't actually a bot) it could be helpful. The way i see it, it's better if we have to put in extra work than if somebody accidentally gets banned. So, I too share your view of a report-free Utopia, but, alas, I don't see it happening... :( --Yonnua Koponen T G P ^^^ 17:46, 25 April 2011 (BST)
- What information does logging the ban on the bots page, for a day or so, add? Most of those bots show no contributions once their pages have been deleted. Regular users have no way of knowing what any of them created.
BTW, what is this section ([[{{TALKPAGENAME}}#Donkey|<span style="color: Red">^</span>]] of your sig for? -- boxy 13:19, 26 April 2011 (BST)
- I largely agree. Personally I think the documentation is a tad stupid, but I can see the reasoning behind it. And the link in my sig lets me jump to the talk page of any page my sig is on, which is helpful on admin pages, etc.--Yonnua Koponen T G P ^^^ 19:35, 30 April 2011 (BST)
- I believe the theory was that people are more likely to see the report if it's on an admin page; you can't put to block log on your watch list, so it's more likely to get missed.--The General T Sys U! P! F! 20:30, 30 April 2011 (BST)

- It looks fine to me. What browser are you using? ~ 15:11, 21 April 2011
- no whats going on is where you enter code for your sig the text box is smaller.. so if you have a bunch of code. you are fucked. like boxy and I... I can only enter about half of it now. and the small date/time thing does not work with template sigs.---- bitch 15:16, 21 April 2011 (BST)
- Oh I see. Well you can have a templated sig but subst it. For example here is preferences: {{subst:User:Vapor/sig}} {{subst:LOCALTIME}}, {{subst:LOCALDAY}} {{subst:LOCALMONTHNAME}} {{subst:LOCALYEAR}}. So the code for my sig is stored on User:Vapor/sig but when I sign, the code is subst'd and the template isn't called. ~ 15:30, 21 April 2011

- One of the new features is an option to limit the size of sigs; evidently the default is less than we are used to. I suspect that it'll be easier to template the sigs than to get Kevan to change it.--The General T Sys U! P! F! 17:11, 21 April 2011 (BST)

Just to butt-in but is it against the rules to incorporate the time stamp into your sig? or would that be wiki breaking?--Arthur Dent BIN LADEN IS DEAD!!!!! 14:11, 22 April 2011 (BST)
- As long as you always sign with ~~~ instead of ~~~~ (inserting just the sig without the timestamp, thus avoiding double time stamps), it should work splendid. Not sure if it would work properly with templated sigs, though. -- Spiderzed█ 14:25, 22 April 2011 (BST)
- Yeah ran into a problem with the new sig limits, has anyone told kevan?, because it is very easy to bypass it with templated sigs--Arthur Dent BIN LADEN IS DEAD!!!!! 14:35, 22 April 2011 (BST)
- We haven't told Kevan yet because we're still finding out what all is broken and what we can just fix ourselves. Discussion is happening at UDWiki_talk:Administration/Discussion#Wiki_update_FAQs. In the case of signature length, I think the default value of 255 characters is being used in Default.php. Kevan needs to change &MaxSigChars to something other than 255 Ideally it would be whichever number was used before. ~ 14:53, 22 April 2011

Karloth
I just thought I'd come here and point out that all of Karloth's VD is pretty much non-harmful editing and thus a perfect example of what a lot of us spent years getting on Izzy for reporting as vandalism. I don't feel like bringing it up in the A/VB drama but I did think you'd appreciate and be able to see the similarities in how he was escalated and why so many of the admin team frequently clashed with Iscariot for reporting based on strict letter. It's a good example of why Judgement and Spirit is still part of the enforcement rules and what happens when they're removed. --Karekmaps?! 04:31, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, but that judgement cuts both ways. I appreciate the arguement in the case of his editing of the PK page. But the rest (other than the humourous suggestions one) seem to be the fault of his friends. Perhaps he should choose different ones to mess with, ones who wont report him to A/VB for the lolz. If a third party had reported him for either of the last two, I would have said, "meh, not vandalism, they do that shit". But when the participants themselves go out of their way to make us make a decision... we have to. The thing that forces it over the line for me, then, is the reason behind the "mock" vandalism... it goes from being done for laughs between friends, to being about making drama -- boxy talk • teh rulz 07:13 23 March 2011 (BST)
- I understand that but, there was a time where we would escalate the person actually vandalizing A/VB. Specifically the reporter and not the person obviously not doing anything wrong. It's sorta like saying it's bad faith by association doing it this way. --Karekmaps?! 05:16, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- The problem is that the smart arses (and yeah, that includes Karloth, and everyone who reports him) are doing this to "promote anarchy" (or some other similar "non-conformist" form of kewl). I appreciate it as an ingame roleplaying tool, and to an extent in their wiki contributions. But that's an intergroup or interpersonal interaction thing. Once it gets brought into the admin area, especially by page owners, we've got to say enough, and treat them like everyone else -- boxy talk • teh rulz 13:03 24 March 2011 (BST)
- Yes but in cases where it's not the page owners having a tromp about admin pages? I could understand escalating both users in cases like the Karloth one, the justification makes sense and while I would avoid it as much as possible personally in favor of targeting the person who escalates it too far it certainly does make sense. --Karekmaps?! 15:30, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Probationary Sys-Op
I had hoped that you'd see it on Ross' talk and save me the trouble of having the same discussion in multiple places. But it has been sitting there for some days now, so I better bring it here: User_talk:Rosslessness#Probationary_Sys-Op Your thoughts on that as someone who's been a crat for ages? Think that it would be a worthwhile policy suggestion? -- Spiderzed▋ 14:44, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

broke teh rulz
Juz read teh rulz How can I delete my wiki alt?
-- ▧ : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : 13:57, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- As long as you don't use it to avoid wiki consequences for your main account, you're not really braking any rulz -- boxy talk • teh rulz 14:10 25 January 2011 (BST)
- If you really have no use for the account any more, though, you can get it deleted by posting it to A/SD. It is best to do this with the actual account in question though (rather than with your main account) so that sysops know that you're not just getting someone else's page deleted -- boxy talk • teh rulz 14:14 25 January 2011 (BST)
Thanks. In that case will just keep it, but won't use it. Deleting it may mess up any contributions that ac made. Perhaps. Thanks. -- ▧ : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : 14:31, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- OK, looks like you decided to nuke it anyway. It won't affect the contributions you made with the account, because we don't/can't actually delete the account (you can still log in with it), just delete the user page for it -- boxy talk • teh rulz 00:21 26 January 2011 (BST)

Question
u recently blocked my rommate with the username nexus and i assure u nexus is not a alt of me we just share a pc can u please unban him he would never vandalise wiki on purpose can u send me somthin of wut ur planning to do thanks--Zombieman 11 22:00, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- It's probably the fact you do everything so similar. Like the fact you don't capitalize I's , or use any punctuation, or the fact you both seem to miss the "g" of words like "thinking" or "something". Oh, and editing as User:Survivor 2.0 isn't helping things at all. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 22:29, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- Which isn't against the rules (to my knowledge) since the alt in question is neither committing vandalism, voting illegally, nor evading a ban as Zombieman has only been warned, not actually banned. Unless I am missing something. Which is like totally possible!-MHSstaff 23:06, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not judging the usefulness of this, merely questioning the claim that these (now 3) accounts are between two roommates. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 23:13, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- You just threw up a AVB case. What vandalism has Survivor 2 actually committed? How is this different from the Lois/Lois's alt case? This is drifting toward borderline checkuser abuse...-MHSstaff 23:16, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- It's using a second sock to try to establish that the first sock (which was used improperly) was a real person, which is just as bad. 23:19, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- Fair enough. -MHSstaff 23:20, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

I came up with an Idea, but need your input
I thought it would be cool if we had a wiki User of the Month Competition. Now, this would probably have to be run by Sysops, so, I'm Asking for your input here. And dont worry, I've asked the other Sysops too.
Cheers,

chile
Hey man, do you remember a year and a half ago you showed me a link on IRC about that news report of the small rainfall in chile which knocked out power for 60,000 or so people? I've been googling it but I can't find it : ( do you have it hidden away somewhere, or remember what site it was from? Super thanks if you can help me out :D -- LEMON #1 15:19, 19 September 2010 (BST)
- This probably isn't the link I had at the time, but I just googled up the story, "Tiny Drizzle Wreaks Havoc In Desert City", about Iquique being damaged by a rainfall of 0.2mm (their yearly average is 0.6mm) :D -- boxy talk • teh rulz 14:39 20 September 2010 (BST)
- My numbers were a bit out, but that's the one! My god, it's one of the funniest things I've ever read. Thanks heaps. -- LEMON #1 14:54, 20 September 2010 (BST)
