20080210 Mass Add Contacts

Specialist290 22:22, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Interface change / improvement

Suggestion scope
Contacts List

Suggestion description
I apologize if this has been suggested before; I couldn't find any mention of a suggestion like this anywhere I checked.

I don't know about most of you, but I tend to be a little lazy, and I like to look for shortcuts whenever I have to do some long, arduous task. Therefore, whenever I have to add long lists of profiles to my contacts list, I extremely dislike having to check each and every profile and add them all manually one at a time. For this reason, I propose that there be a way to add multiple profiles to one's contact list en masse.

Specifically, what I have in mind is something like this: There should be a small textbar / -box at the bottom of the Contacts page which allows you to type in a string of characters. You can then enter each individual profile ID number separately (separated by spaces or something like that), and when you click the "Add Profiles" button, it adds the profiles with those IDs to your list all at once. For practical purposes, of course, there should be a cap on the number of profiles you can add at one time; I'm going to tenatively say 10 profiles per "click," but I'm inclined to adjust that depending on what people feel about it.

  2. Keep - It was a real pain adding all of the members of my group to my contact list. I like this. --Hhal 22:24, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Keep - I know when a few people i want to add is in the same building it takes a while. tom1504 22:25 10 February 2008

  13. Keep – Useful. I'd mention the ability to set the colour at the same time, but I think UDTool fulfills that role better than Contacts already. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 08:57, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Don't be lazy, Spec. It won't get you far in life. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 23:58, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill - bleh, unneeded--CorndogheroT-S-Z 00:51, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - It looks to me that this causes more work. --FXI 01:29, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill - As FXI, Rictor, and Ass Hat.... =P --/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 01:42, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  5. Contacts is one area you really DO need to pay attention to if your going to use it alot. I mean you have to add the contact, then color coordinate it. So you want to add, say, 20 people then you STILL have to go through and color coordinate them. Besides, why would anyone need to add so MANY people to contact so frequently anyway?--Pesatyel 02:36, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - contacts.cgi?add=(idnumber). Get one person in your group to change all the profile links to that format and then it's a simple matter of click and done. Spam for this being pretty much useless.--Karekmaps?! 23:20, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm aware of that trick, but can it add more than one profile at a time? --Specialist290 23:31, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
No, and the one you suggest here really couldn't do it any faster, as you'd need to enter all the UDIDs.--Karekmaps?! 23:36, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Spam- Adds screen clutter and definitely adds more work. -- BKM 05:28, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Spam - Lazy bastard. If you want to add people to contacts, there is a slight risk that either a zombie could eat you or a pker could kill you. This removes that risk. It is a speed action and so should rightly fail for the same reason as all other speed action suggestions. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 07:43, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Spam - Lazy bastich. If you want to add people to contacts, there is a slight risk that either a zombie could eat you or a pker could kill you. This removes that risk. It is a speed action and so should rightly fail for the same reason as all other speed action suggestions. That is my original and unique opinion. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 20:12, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
