20070828 Ruin destroys barricades

Smiley 10:33, 28 August 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Fixes unintended consequence of previous suggestion

Suggestion scope
Ruined buildings

Suggestion description
When a building is ruined, all barricades for the building are destroyed.

With the recent change to forbid freerunning into ruined buildings, it is now possible to create buildings survivors have no access to, namely buildings which are both ruined and heavily barricaded. (I will not destroy the pleasure of figuring it out for those who have not yet.) This allows zombies to put themselves in positions where they are protected by barricades. I believe this is a consequence neither intended nor considered by either the suggestor or voters on that suggestion. This suggestion fixes this unintended consequence in the simplest manner possible.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - I don't like that you can have both.--Karekmaps?! 10:46, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - Thankyou to Boxy and Smiley for pointing out where I was wrong. This does need to be addressed. -- Pavluk 11:33, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Keep/Change - This seriously needs to be addressed, but it should be that a building cannot be ruined with barricades in place. --The Hierophant 12:01, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep - Fo'shizzle --Sonny Corleone RRF DORIS CRF pr0n 15:55, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep - Aye. --dudemeister 16:11, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  6. Keep/Change - The Hierophant's suggestion is better, but either would be a good fix to an obviously unintended problem. -Shinosa 16:23, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  7. Keep/Change - Make it so that no cades are present before a Ruin can occur. LCpl Hicks 18:38, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  8. Keep/Change - Ruining a building before all cades are down makes no sense to me either. Cruzz 20:55, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  9. Keep/Change - People, if you vote kill, this won't get noticed at all. I'd like it if barricaded buildings cannot be ransacked and therefore not ruined either. Ruining is supposed to be zombie barricades. As of the last update, they are allowed both kinds of barricades. It's supposed to be one of two sides of A coin, not two dimes.--Billy McGoggenhammer 23:51, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  10. Keep/change - I think ruining should not be possible in a caded building.Studoku 12:18, 29 August 2007 (BST)
  11. Axe Hack ruins this suggestion with a keep vote! --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 21:36, 11 September 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Ruin is enough already, for now. Spammers, you are incorrect. A zombie can be barricaded inside a building and then ruin it, or they can enter via another corner of a large building and ransack and ruin the other barricaded corners by moving inside the building The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 11:27 28 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill/Change - Automatic destruction of barricades is bad, why not make it so that you just can't ruin (or ransack) a building with barricades? --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 11:46, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill - Good, but not good enough. And above, that would nerf zombies in mall seiges. BoboTalkClown 02:02, 29 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill-CoughMALLSIEGEcough. Nalikill 11:59, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill - I do not see where the problem is. I suppose it might happen, but in very rare cases. Survivors still have crowbars. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 12:09, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - If the barricade isn't easy to destroy, providing another way to destroy it that is easy (in large buildings) doesn't make a lot of sense. --Pgunn 14:00, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill/Change - as Midianian and The Hierophant --~~~~T''' 15:48, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  8. Kill/Change - As Hierophant.--Sara M 15:53, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  9. Kill As Hierophant. Once the building is fully ransacked have further ransacking instead serve as an attack on the barricades. --Jon Pyre 16:38, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  10. Kill – Unnecessary, overpowered, and attempts to prevent new tactics from developing. ᚱᛁᚹᛖᚾ 18:45, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  11. Kill - Maybe you could change it so that changing a building's status to Ruin destroys 5 full levels of barricading. Ruining an EHB building would leave the barricades standing, but significantly weakened (EHB minus five full levels is SB? I think?). --Steakfish 19:10, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  12. Kill - Just make it so that you can't ruin with 'cades in place. --Hhal 20:07, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  13. Kill/Change - Make is so you can't ruin with barricades in place as many above --Ryiis 21:59, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  14. Kill - I already thought of this one myself, and for those that don't know how it works - parachute a few zombies into a building to clear it without touching the cades, ruin it, and the building drops out of the free running network entirely. This is a good thing: it's possible but not easy to do on a significant scale, it's rewarding when it does happen, and it makes ruin strategically useful (right now all it is is an indirect survivor encumbrance nerf and zombie AP sink). --Mold 00:33, 29 August 2007 (BST)
  15. Kill Nah... --Secruss 02:46, 29 August 2007 (BST)
  16. Enough - No. Ruin already destroys our free running network, nothing more should be added to bolster the already over-effective skill. --Private Mark 03:13, 29 August 2007 (BST)
  17. Kill - As Private Mark. --Abi79 AB 17:03, 31 August 2007 (BST)
  18. Kill - as as Midianian and The Hierophant-- Vista  +1  12:39, 4 September 2007 (BST)
  19. Kill - The answer to clever applications of tactics is to come up with tactics of your own, not whine about them until they get nerfed. --Pestilent Bob 19:20, 5 September 2007 (BST)
  20. Screw it. I'm not giving a reason for the rest of my votes in this spree.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 17:16, 9 September 2007 (BST)
  21. KILL OK, WHY can't I block enterances when EVERYTHING IS ON THE FLOOR?!? That makes no sense. However, I won't complain that I can't 'Cade then, I just will complain that this suggestion has no real use, and besides- 'Cades are easy EXP for newb Zeds, why remove their ability to find it? ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? *Sep 11th, 2007 (19:02 MDT)*

Spam/Dupe Votes

Spam - You can't ransack a barricaded building, you can't barricade a ransacked building, you can ruin only a ransacked building, and you can't barricade a ruined building. Care to elaborate how it's possible to have a ruined building with barricades? --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 10:49, 28 August 2007 (BST) Changed my vote. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 11:46, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  1. Wait, so a very innoviate and cool tactic wants to be nerfed because it is innoviate and cool? Bwah? This just leads a bad precentent. DIRTNAP has to be gotten rid off, FOBU has to be destroyed, ZKing surely has to be discouraged. Besides, barricades are easy to destroy anyway. Please, shouldn't we reward players for thinking complex strats rather than just nerfing them?--ShadowScope 16:43, 28 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Spam - As ShadowScope. Don't stagnate, adapt. --Thelightguy 22:30, 28 August 2007 (BST)
The timing makes me suspect that someone already thought of this tactic when prohibiting freerunning into ruined buildings was suggested, and withheld the information during the voting for that tactic. Innovation is good and I approve of it. However, I find withholding information highly relevant to a suggestion put up to a vote highly unethical. Smiley 05:47, 29 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Spam/Change - this is probably the most confusing suggestion I have ever seen, make it simpler (for the idiots like me). --WOOT 08:06, 29 August 2007 (BST)
  4. YOU DIE TOO! -1: heck no imagine if a zombie somehow got into an EHB+6 building it could destroy the barricades for 2AP, as well as all the decorations, and of course if you have this ruin should also destroy generators and radio transmitters... and two NO MORE @#^$$ RUIN CHANGES! --AlexanderRM 14:34, 29 August 2007 (BST)
  5. SPAM - At least wait another 10 days before you change ruin again. Actually, forget about it entirely, and give Kevan some time to think about a useful survivor update.--Labine50 MHG|MEMS 02:11, 30 August 2007 (BST)
