Suggestion description
Not everyone wants to play a load of characters. Not everyone wants their characters interfering with. Some people like the IP limit as it forces them to leave the game so they have to do other things, while other like to experiment with the limits imposed by the base 160 IP hits per day.
Unfortunately a character's owner cannot be in charge of this due to the way the donations system is set up and is operated.
All characters will have a check box added to their settings screen that reads "Allow donations" with "Yes" and "No" as options. The option will be set as default to allow donations for newbies and people who are clueless with their settings, but will allow those that choose to refuse all donations and leave the character subject to the IP limit.
This all came about after I'd spent two months levelling a character for various IP limit tests for some wiki guides for newbies detailing how much could be achieved and the limitations of the IP system. Then someone came along and decided to donate for that character. I didn't ask for it nor did I get a say. The character in question was made exempt from the IP limit and there was nothing I as the owner could do to stop, prevent or remove any of it. After I expressed my displeasure and dismay at this work having gone to waste the person in question emailed Kevan to ask for the IP limit to be put back, five months later and nothing.
Is it really too much that players for whatever reason can be subject to this limit? More complex games have purchase screens where players can choose to spend any credits that their account has bought or been given, I don't want anything nearly as complex, just an option to express my preference as the character's owner. Kevan can keep the money for all I care.

- Keep - Is harmless and allows finer control. --Anotherpongo 14:33, 13 September 2009 (BST)
- Keep - You passed the XP toggle suggestion, this one should pass too.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 15:54, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Keep - UD accounts deserve 100% control by those who own it. I mean 100%. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 15:58, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Keep - As above. --TCAPD(╯°□°)╯ ┻━┻ 16:44, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Keep As DDR, but I also think that the person attempting to donate should be informed if a donation does not take. Something like, "This user has chosen to not accept outside donations" or a similar message. -Devorac 05:09, 17 September 2009 (BST)
- Keep - Same as DDR. 100%. ~Dr Frank (t) (DF) [P] (Sb) 10:38, 17 September 2009 (BST)
Kill Votes
- Kill - The only people with a serious use for this are IP hit limit researchers on the wiki. Adds unnecessary clutter to the Settings page that would only serve to confuse 99% of users. --Aichon 16:35, 13 September 2009 (BST)
- We need this unnecessary addition because YOU let someone else donate for YOUR character? I don't get it.--Pesatyel 22:12, 13 September 2009 (BST)
- Re below, it still sounds like a personal problem more than anything else. Why would somebody spend THEIR money to donate for YOUR character? You'd do better to suggest revamping the donation system somehow then worrying about IP limits.--Pesatyel 02:51, 15 September 2009 (BST)
- Kill/Change - Like Pesatyel, not sure I understand, is this a character whose password you shared or are you saying players can donate for characters at random? Either way, it's not a serious problem, and this creates an obstacle where a player may choose to donate and find repeatedly that they can't for their choice of characters, discouraging donations, and thus is decidedly not harmless. Ask for an IP limit toggle instead if it's that important to you, and let players donate for whomever they want.--Necrofeelinya 00:02, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- In response to both you and Pesatyel, all of my accounts are secure, it's just that anyone may donate for any character they want whether they are the owner or not. Go pick a random character in any building you are in, take his ID and you can donate for him, and the character's owner has no say in it at all. The toggle would be default set to allow donations, so players must choose to disallow them deliberately or things would be as they are now. As I pointed out in the suggestion, Kevan can keep the money for all I care, there's no way for another player to tell if their donation is successful or not as only the character's owner can see that information. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 11:19, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Understood, but still doesn't address the point that it would be better to toggle just the IP limit and let characters donate for whomever they like. Example: "Hmmm... think I'll donate for Iscariot's character for no reason... wait, I can't. Well, maybe I won't bother." Donation lost. Instead, put a toggle for IP limits that can only be turned off after a donation and at the player's discretion. Or something. Let people donate however and for whomever they want.--Necrofeelinya 01:42, 15 September 2009 (BST)

- Kill - I'd rather not see this particular suggestion implemented. --Bob Boberton TF / DW 00:14, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Kill Unneeded. --RahrahCome join the #party!16:24, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Kill Although what happened to you was unfair, I do find it humorous. This affects too small a % to warrant a keep. For what you're doing manually keeping track how many IP hits you use yourself would probably be a better alternative. --Kamikazie-Bunny 21:57, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Obviously I can make new characters for the future and to complete the piece I wanted to do, however it has cost me character name that I quite liked, and I the owner apparently get no say over this. Unlike Nexus War I can't delete this guy and then have the same name again. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 22:12, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Meh - While I can see how it might be annoying to have someone donate on your behalf, I really don't see there being much of a point in this being implemented for just a tiny proportion of users to use. It'd be like implementing toothpaste or something. -- Cheese 22:20, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Kill - ↑Kinda silly, really. Also, Iscariot, if you want Kevan to do something, you need to give him fresh brains with a side of liver. You should know this, I'm rather disappointed. -- AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 22:45, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- The person who donated immediately followed up with an email to Kevan when they found out that I wasn't impressed. Odd how deleting Brain Rot from hacked characters gets done but this is summarily ignored. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 23:04, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Kill - No point. - User:Armpit_Odor/sig - 00:11 15 September 2009 (BST)
- Kill - Everyone else has kind of said what I have to say. It seems more of a personal problem. Nemesis645 19:08, 15 September 2009 (BST)
Spam/Dupe Votes
- SPAM - Classic spam. Totally fucking unneeded. Just email Kevan yourself from the email you gave for the alt. (You did enter an email didn't you?) For fuck sake. --WanYao 23:38, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- WTF CENTAURS - As WanYao--Orange Talk 23:40, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Spam - As above. Go fly a kite...up your ass.--SirArgo Talk 23:44, 14 September 2009 (BST)
- Spam - Completely unneeded for the general population. Is this a joke suggestion? --Mold 11:12, 15 September 2009 (BST)
- Spam - I don't reckon we need to go implementing game changes over weird circumstances that occur in your household.--GANG Giles Sednik CAPD 10:49, 16 September 2009 (BST)
