Vinetown is a suburb of Malton, located in the southeast of the city.

One of Malton’s lower-middle, working-class neighborhoods, Vinetown had fallen on hard times in the mid-1980s, when layoffs and shutdowns at local factories pushed it into an era of extreme poverty; with crime, joblessness and poverty hitting all-time highs. A slow turnaround had begun by the early ‘90s and, prior to the outbreak, Vinetown was undergoing a massive period of urban renewal.

Vinetown was named for a small but highly-regarded winemaking operation that flourished in the region in the early 20th Century, established under the auspices of a group called the Priory of St. Armand – based at St. John's Cathedral. Colwill Grove Select was prized by wine experts and a solid money-maker for the church’s charitable efforts before production was abandoned during World War II. St. John’s was one of two buildings that dominated the landscape of Vinetown in the days before the outbreak.

To the south, Mitchem Mall, built in the late ‘70s, adapted quickly to the region’s economic downturn – filling its vacated storefronts with space for local vendors. Catering to local artisans (alongside cheap rents) helped create a thriving arts and music community despite the area’s impoverished status. (It’s rumored that singer-songwriter Tom Waits wrote much of the material for his 1980 album “Heart Attack and Vine” while staying at the The Pilyer Hotel, located on Malton’s Vine Street, during a run of shows at Club Izzard and Club Quarman – which then catered to live music audiences.)

Things to do in Vinetown

  • Haggle your heart out at Mitchem Mall, with its eclectic mix of drugstores, gun shops and Radio Shack. If TSI is in town, the Comfy Chairs 'R' Us showroom may also be open. Fat Sam's Big Fat One-Stop Fuel Shop is closed until further notice.
  • Gaze in awe at St John's Cathedral's bloodstained-glass windows and ornate reliquaries, full of holy bones (some of them dating as far back as 2005).
  • Just had your umpteenth headshot? A perfect excuse to get that nose-job you've always wanted - at Gelasius General Hospital!
  • At a dead end? Given up breathing? Perk up at Bhore Monument or the Dinovan Monument. For prompt service, put in a Revive Request.
  • Give yourself a brain-food break! Visit The Godfry Museum, The Daniels Museum and the Salisbury Museum and learn about European sculpture, skeletons and umbrellas, or settle down for a quiet read at the Chatwin Library.
  • Laugh the night away at Club Izzard and choose between cake or death!
  • The suburb's picture house, Shyar Cinema, is maintained and run by the local thuggery MDK. A great night out, as long as you like horror films and put up crooked fingers to the smoking ban.

With Mitchem ruined, pressure is growing on the cades at Gelasius Hospital. 26 zombies are reportedly outside. There have been sporadic break-ins over recent days but all infections and intrusions have been cured and repulsed so far.Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 19:29, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Entrance to Mitchem is still possible, with the shops still accessible, Zombies are not aggressive unless survivors linger. --TeenJunkie 00:54, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Mitchem Mall was finally ruined yesterday after about a week of resistance against growing numbers of zombies. As most of the shoppers ignored repeated calls to spreads out to all four corners, some zombies managed to gain a toehold and ruin the SW corner, enabling the rest to flood the mall and kill everyone they found.--Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 03:05, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

November 22nd

Mitchem Mall has been under siege for several days, with about a score of zombies outside the SW corner managing frequent break-ins but without being able to sustain a beachhead. Survivors have been able to re-cade and remove the zombies while suffering relatively few casualties. However, the fate of the mall remains on a knife-edge. Gelasius Hospital to the north is under similar pressure.--Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 03:16, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Vinetown's a haven for survivors just now - only a few dark buildings are still ruined, the key buildings are all repaired, defended and sometimes lit. Gelasius, Mitchem Mall and St John's Cathedral are all thronged with locals and wide-eyed visitors, and the police departments are all functioning. Apparently there's supposed to be a zombie outbreak somewhere.--Mallrat The Spanish Inquisition TSI The Kilt Store TKS Clubbed to Death CTD 11:13, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
