About 404

We're a small, and very coordinated survivor organization. Our group was started by two players (Emerald Green and Viktor Suvorov) annoyed by lack of coordination and general reason in survivor activities. We operate... in red suburbs :)

Recruitment Policy

We are a small but effective group. We prefer quality over quantity, and will not accept just anyone. We are currently open to new members, so if you're interested in joining us, you are welcome to apply if you can find us.

We don't accept zergers, alt abusers or people from the text-rapist list. We also aren't going to accept players using dishonourable tactics (like impersonation of other groups/players). We accept former PKers if they have stopped killing innocent people (innocent means non-PKer in this context). You are allowed to have only one character in our group. If you break this rule we'll dismiss you, and (if applicable) report you to Ressens Zerg Liste.

You are welcome to contact us in game. We have a private IRC chatroom that we use to coordinate with each other. Applicants should be willing to join us for chat. We'll give you details on how to access the channel when you apply.

PKing and Bounty Hunting Policy

Members of our group are free to kill anyone from the Resensitized Zerg Liste and from the text-rapist list (with appropriate comment). They are also allowed to kill hostile PKers who are listed in Rogues Gallery, but only if it can increase survivor security (note - killing PKers often decreases security). All killing actions should first be discussed in our IRC channel, if possible. We expect that members will document any such activity with screenshots.

Combat Revive Policy

We support the use of smart combat revives. We only use combat revives when we know who it is we're reviving, and when we've determined they pose little risk to survivor safety while in human form or we have measures in place to combat them. This is unfortunate for low level zombies who find it bothersome to be combat revived, but we do not exist to make (un)life comfortable for zombies.

News

12 March 2025: Fourteen years have passed since our last news update - where does the time go?! 404 spent most of that period in hiatus, having decided at the end of 2011 that Malton was simply too safe to justify our presence. Almost every one of us drifted away from the city over the course of time, and for more than a decade, 404 was just a memory. But in late 2024, SweetIrony's Urban Dead Reunion brought enough of us back together that we decided it might be fun to wake the group up out of its deep sleep and reassemble in some corner of the city!

The Merson Building in Grigg Heights was chosen due to our group history, its location near the border and the fact it was home to a small but historically persistent horde, ZombieFARK. Reclaiming the building, we barricaded ourselves in, installed a generator, hung up some Christmas lights and waited... And waited. And waited, for ZombieFARK were not responsive to the hostile takeover of their Worldwide HQ, often failing to break in and almost immediately getting ejected if they did. 404 grew restless, first attempting to make friends with the lacklustre local zombies, then demanding to be eaten. By two weeks in, ZombieFARK were so ineffectual in their role as zombie threat that we began to plot against each other in secret back channels. One fateful night, half of 404 window-dived and broke in to Merson to devour the other half. For a moment, 302: Barhah found stalked the streets, smashing cades and liberating the brains inside until it was time to get back to work and find a new challenge...

After spending some decompressing in a club in Hovercraft, we briefly visited Malton Zoo and then headed to the Style Building in Yagoton, hoping to get into a tangle with the wonderfully chatty Babble Rabble! Stealing their DNA to lure them towards our temporary home, they managed to break in and eat a bunch of us one day, only for us to clock their strike time and barricade them out actively the next. Unfortunately, they wandered off after this, and we never got the proper siege we were hoping for.

Moving on, we headed to Whittenside where we settled in The Colglough Building, hoping to be challenged by Fort Feral Zombies and the locals. Without doubt, holding this building proved more difficult than Merson, and after a slow start, we were regularly having to deal with sizeable break-ins, the largest being a 16 zombie clearance we pulled off by the skin of our teeth. It was around this time we began reach out and start building new connections with the other survivors in the area, principally members of Fort Perryn Defense Force and the Knights Templar. While in the past we'd often had fractious relationships with most other survivor groups due to a difference in approach and attitudes, by this time we found a lot of common cause and that we enjoyed each other's company! Having made so many new friends and feeling that we'd finally got our old skills back in place, we began to seriously discussing tackling the most infamous target in the game...

Blackmore was the scene of possibly our greatest triumph, having successfully held the RRF at bay for 13 days in 2010. That siege had ended in a massive bloodbath (which is how all sieges *should* end), but for those two weeks both sides were stretched and contorted by nearly endless real-time combat and the event was generally considered hugely enjoyable all-round. We'd idly considered returning to Blackmore in late 2024 but most of us now had grown up responsibilities, careers, creaking bodies, the need for more than four hours of sleep a night... and there was still only about ten of us. But after sharpening ourselves against Fort Feral Zombies, and making lots of new friends, the time felt right in January to give Blackmore one last good go.

We built a new community server, recruited from among all the groups we'd gotten tight with, plus old friends like the Soldiers of Crossman and select individuals, wrote up extensive plans and guides, and finally descended upon the infamous NT in early January. In what turned out to be the last great siege in the game, 404 and our friends held out the RRF for another 12 days of absolutely exhausting cade-watching and real-time response until a truly epic counter-force compromised of RRF, the Flowers of Decay, LUE, Nuclear Proliferation League, and members of The Scourge, Shacknews, Babble Rabble, and Fort Feral Zombies wiped us all out in 12 minutes flat. Once again, everyone involved considered the siege a massive success, with players on all sides telling us it was the best event they'd experienced in a decade.

After Blackmore, we ventured back to Whittenside to help our friends reclaim Fort Perryn, and we adapted to the environment, many of us wielding guns for the first time. A short but fun siege ensued until the zombies just couldn't be held back, and we were back in the Colglough Building when we all found out the sad news that Malton was going to be nuked from orbit on Friday 14th March 2025. We are spending our final days cracking open all our NecroTech syringes and doing shots with the contents, crying, and polishing Cade Bot.

404 would like to wrap up this last news piece thanking everyone we had a legitimate interaction with over all the years, especially the zombies that actually broke in and ate us and the friends that put up with (or thoroughly immersed themselves in) our silliness. We love you! See you in the next world! --BOSCH (talk) 02:22, 13 March 2025 (UTC)

13 September 2011: We kicked off the New Year in Dakerstown, warmly welcomed by paranoid survivors who confused us for a zombie group and then decided our lofty ideals of, you know, barricades and safety transcended their own.

Moving swiftly on, we repaired a ghost town (Crowbank) in seven days, and Roftwood in even less time. The hunt for a more active suburb took us to Raines Hills, which we fixed up in two weeks, followed by Chancelwood and a coordinated reclamation of the Haslock Building. After a sorry affair in Dulston with a man-hating Goon, we hit up Pashenton, then the Caiger Mall area, having a mini-siege of the Latrobe Building whilst we were there.

By this point, Malton just was too safe, so we visited one of the few suburbs where a challenge is somewhat guaranteed - Whittenside. This operation was lots of fun, mostly because many of us got drunk (repeatedly) and stayed up chatting bollocks to each other at all hours of the day and night, but also because Feral Undead put up a good fight on their home turf.

Then, fucking finally, the game got exciting and dangerous as The Dead invaded en masse again. For the first time in a long time, we were in our element, forced to survive and revive as the city lay in ruins around us. We worked Wyke Hills, Buttonville, Crowbank, Pegton, Vinetown, Wray Heights, Kinch Heights and West Greytown, in quick succession. Grigg Heights was next, followed by blitzing the fuck out of Pimpbank, Williamsville, Spicer Hills, Nixbank, Roftwood, Dentonside and Vinetown.

As the game slowly returned to its depressingly usual state of safety and survivor surplus, we returned to Whittenside, repairing some fairly large cost ruins and stabilising the suburb before masses of other survivors decided it would be a good time to capitalise on our freshly reclaimed suburb and siege Fort Perryn. Unable to resist an opportunity to siege ourselves (we love 'em), but defiantly displaying our now trademark sarcasm and silliness whilst being seriously determined defenders, we helped liven up what would have otherwise been just another humourless sausage-fest... How long we'll be able to put up with our fellow survivors narrow-minded paranoid militancy, however, I don't know, but rumour has it that 404 has its eye on a greater challenge... --BOSCH 02:37, 13 September 2011 (BST)

26 May 2011: So... with the whole map, or at least the vast majority of it red. 404 has really come into it's own. Tactically we are as prepared for this as any group could be. We have gained some excellent new members and they are getting a crash course in 404: Dying not found! We are currently in... ahh that would be telling XD Cadwah 23:51, 25 May 2011 (BST)

3 January 2011: Another busy couple of months for 404! With Wray Heights rebuilt in less than a week, we hopped over the border and fixed up Gulsonside too. After a fight for our right to party inside Blesley Mall with Clubbed To Death, we headed north and to Pimbank, where we bagged some of the highest AP repair costs Malton has yet seen! Amongst the three-digit totals were Dante Bosch (157AP repair), Audacious (156AP repair) and Desyana (127AP repair). After another swift rebuild in Pimbank, we moved on to Eastonwood for our final mission of the year, 404 Festivus, a rot revive party over the festive period in the The Tryme Building. With 404 and allies at MCM reviving friendly rotters promptly and effectively frustrating the hostile zombies away, the event can be considered a success, and we've since moved on to fix up another ruined suburb. After a revitalising second half of 2010 and with a host of great new recruits, 404 heads into the New Year as active and potent as seen in a long time. --BOSCH 22:49, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

30 October 2010: 404 has been busy! In the last two months we've helped repair Eastonwood, Grigg Heights (twice), Reganbank, Mornington, Crooketon, and Wray Heights.

31 August 2010:

13 days and the siege of Blackmore is finally over. After the initial breach of over 20 zombies, the divide between them and survivors got ever closer as the night grew on, finally coming to a close early morning of the 31st and building being re-ruined. 404 would like to thank every group that came out to support us in this undertaking, and the RRF for the fun siege. All thats left to do now is revive all the survivors who helped with the effort then take a period of R&R.-- Rolfe Steiner Talk | Creedy Guerrilla Raiders 17:46, 31 August 2010 (BST)

29 August 2010:

After two weeks of cade strafing, 404 has managed to take and hold the Blackmore Building in Ridleybank for 11 days. A siege is underway with over 100 souls on both sides of the barricades.-- Rolfe Steiner Talk | Creedy Guerrilla Raiders 17:32, 29 August 2010 (BST)

404 is up and active again... Join us and the OBR on the forum, we are actively recruiting through the medium of dance--Cadwah 22:34, 15 July 2010 (BST)

5 Febuary 2010:

404 is currently on an unofficial Hiatus due to low numbers. We are still looking for members however.

23 August 2009: We're currently working on repairing buildings with high AP repair costs, barricade strafing, and doing revives in the suburb of Molebank. Some of the highest repairs done in the last few days were from Little Chris (140AP repair), Desyana (141AP repair), and Audacious (114AP repair). --Fiffy 404 OBR RRF 06:03, 23 August 2009 (BST)

17 August 2009: We held Fort Perryn's Gatehouse for a full week and partied with the Feral Undead, but it finally fell back into zombie hands when 50+ standing zombies outside were knocking on the door. Amusing demands were exchanged, and the time we spent in Fort Perryn was nicknamed Naked Twister Party '09.

We're currently working in another suburb that is completely ruined, doing suicide repairs and beginning the cleanup process.

--Fiffy 404 OBR RRF 11:15, 17 August 2009 (BST)

4 August 2009: 404 has traveled all across the map in the past few months. We've made visits to Quarlesbank, Vinetown, Houldenbank, Penny Heights, Osmondville, briefly Fryerbank and Miltown, and now Whittenside.

We managed to yet again bore zombies to death outside the Craddy Building in Penny Heights:

Junkie Jenny said "anyways, your little group here is responsible for taking back this suburb. you got one hell of a foothold here in the NT."

Junkie Jenny said "maybe i should do like the advice spray painted outside Craddy and find another suburb? a couple days ago there were over 30 zeds outside. the numbers are dwindling each day."

Most recently we decided to do something we've never done before: reclaim a Fort. Why? 404 has taken and held countless hospitals, NT facilities, Malls, and every other type of building in Malton, except a Fort.

We cleared the Gatehouse of Fort Perryn and began holding it with the help of local survivors. Tassajaramonk of Squadron1111 has been blogging some of the events of late July and early August. We're maintaining VSB cades in the Gatehouse with over 30 zeds outside, and currently have a game of naked twister going.

--Fiffy 404 OBR RRF 13:30, 4 August 2009 (BST)

23 April 2009: We are proud to announce that Karek has been promoted to Co-leader, as he has shown excellent leadership qualities and dedication.

Since the last news was posted, 404 moved outward from Lerwill Heights into the surrounding ruined 'burbs to continue barricade strafing, clearing buildings, and defending TRPs. Jessica Devenish survived a 120AP repair, congrats! After clearing and stabilizing a NecroTech Building in Shore Hills that had been in zed hands for some time, we moved to Ackland Mall to help hold it, as it had recently been repaired with only four survivors inside.

We saw this as an opportunity to draw more survivor support into the area and give it the push it needed to be in survivor hands. A mob of feral zombies did not want to give up "their" mall, but we managed to bore them to death by 'cade watching around the clock until they gave up and left, with the help of groups such as MCDU, MFD, AMS, and dedicated civilians.

After the mall was fully populated and not under siege, we focused our attention on holding a nearby hospital in Havercroft that was being attacked. We continued to watch the 'cades religiously, and combat revive zombies to great success. A few 404ers took a break from 'cade watching to go streaking through the mall, and at least one civilian joined in. Musical entertainment by singing was provided for the zombies on more than one occasion.

The suburb of Havercroft was fully 'caded and Ackland Mall was packed with survivors with less than 5 zombies outside at any given time. After successfully holding the hospital almost entirely by ourselves for a week against a mob of 30-something zeds, we notified local groups that we'd be moving on in a few days and slowly pulled out. A big thanks goes to the few brave survivors that stuck it out with us there, and the locals that continued to defend the hospital (instead of ignoring it like many did).

--Fiffy 12:20, 23 April 2009 (BST)

2 April 2009: In the past few months 404 has helped repair Lerwill Heights, Dunell Hills, Owsleybank, Grigg Heights, and Dulston. During that time we made new friends, picked up some great new recruits, and had lots of fun while surviving in red zones.

In Grigg Heights, the female members of our group played naked twister with Rot From The Moors after successfully retaking the Merson Building. Entertainment was provided for the zombies outside by means of singing and streaking. Zombie zergs with porn star names and profile descriptions tried to eat us out of Dulston, but were unsuccessful, as we left with the entire burb repaired with the help of other survivors in the area.

404 most recently completed a successful reconstruction of Lerwill Heights, which was completely ruined and had repair costs in the 40-50AP range.

--Fiffy 18:21, 2 April 2009 (BST)

28 December 2008: We recently worked with local groups to complete a very successful reconstruction of a completely ruined suburb, turning it green. Audacious, a longstanding member with extensive contributions to the group, has been promoted to the position of co-leader. Congrats Audacious!
--Emerald Green 12:54, 28 December 2008 (UTC) (BST)

15 October 2008: 404 is still in Northwest Malton. Many of our members have done building repairs that cost more than 100 AP. We've retaken and lost numerous NTs, and Extinction has sampled all of our brains and declared them to be delicious. We are still alive and fighting in the deep Northwest, and have seen the area come to life. Although it's only October, Pask NT is already decorated with Christmas lights. We cannot confirm or deny rumors that the zombies outside have begun building snowharmanz.
--Emerald Green 21:52, 15 October 2008 (BST)

31 July 2008: 404 has been so busy we've forgotten to post a news update in a while. We're currently in an undisclosed NT in Northwest Malton, defending against Extinction. We think the fight is going quite well. Today we gave some generator killers from Extinction a bit of a shock by fixing a generator 18 times in total while they tried in earnest to smash it. a screenshot of the action
--Emerald Green 05:32, 1 August 2008 (BST)

11 May 2008': We moved to Wyke Hills in order to help defending The Needs Building. After about 1 week area got too peaceful, so we decided to leave.
--Viktor Suvorov 15:37, 22 June 2008 (BST)

April 28 2008': We're pleased to announce that we signed a Non-Aggression Pact with the Dulston Alliance on April 28th.
--Emerald Green 19:51, 4 May 2008 (BST)

22-30 April 2008: Deja-vu. 404 holding the Trood Building once again... this time we managed to bore 24 zeds to death... Nobody died in Trood during this battle (even paratroopers wanting to die). Local newspapers suggest that we were quite efficient in retaking area and clearing RP queues :)
--Viktor Suvorov 12:26, 4 May 2008 (BST)

23 April 2008: WE have just heard terrible news about The Hasslock NT. Brave defenders using some great tactics being a result of ONE YEAR's experiences failed to stop a horde of low level zombies... probably attacking zeds weren't smart enough to listen THEM. We are terribly sorry about it...
--Viktor Suvorov 11:04, 23 April 2008 (BST)

middle of April 2008: We are boring zeds to death again... in north Malton.
--Viktor Suvorov 18:26, 16 April 2008 (BST)

4-7 April 2008: We're defending Barhah Mall and Latrobe NT.
--Viktor Suvorov 17:48, 30 March 2008 (BST)

25-30 March 2008: We are fighting in extinction zone. Despite the fact that our enemies are using superior tactics we managed to provide some revives and restore many buildings (including 1 NT, 2 hospitals and one PD).
--Viktor Suvorov 17:48, 30 March 2008 (BST)

22 March 2008: After moving to Calvert Mall we found our favorite zerg. We decided to organize something completely stupid and unwise - realtime coordinated zerg-hunting. After wasting lots of ammo four of his alts were dead (pic 1, pic 2, pic 3, pic 4, pic 5)
--Viktor Suvorov 11:03, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

21 March 2008: Stickling fell to The Dead. We are alive and in a different suburb now, continuing our efforts.
--Emerald Green 07:23, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

18 March 2008: We're still in Stickling Mall, helping local survivors to deal with minor activity of 140 zombies outside.
--Viktor Suvorov 18:57, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

13 March 2008: Dowdney Mall become a quite safe location. We decided to reinforce Stickling Mall.
--Viktor Suvorov 16:14, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

7 March 2008: We moved to Dowdney Mall in order to help defenders. 2 days after our arrival suburb turned yellow (it was orange).
--Viktor Suvorov 17:18, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

5 March 2008: We left Trood.
--Viktor Suvorov 09:28, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

4 March 2008: After spending thousands of AP on barricades we finally managed to bore 16 ferals to death. The battle of Trood has been won.
--Viktor Suvorov 09:28, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Around 20 February 2008: Our group has been started by 3 players desperately defending the Trood Building. Nobody logged our communication, but it probably would look like:
  09:56 <suvorov> lightly
  09:57 <Emerald> heavily caded
  10:01 <Emerald> QSB
  10:02 <suvorov> => VHB
  ... and so on
