20080515 Consumers always start with knives
Kolechovski 23:39, 15 May 2008 (BST)
Suggestion type
Improvement
Suggestion scope
Consumers
Suggestion description
Consumers are a weak class to start with. However, they seem even more weakened than they should be. If you’re going to hole yourself up in your house for a week during a zombie outbreak and grab a melee weapon for defense before you go, why the hell would you grab something like a fencing foil? You can’t cook any hotdogs out here, so the fencing foil is useless. Now how many households lack knives? I’d guess very few, especially if they are equipped with sports equipment. It’s bad enough that consumers are stuck outside of malls, lacking stuff they desperately need with a skill they can’t use. So why not at least help them a bit by giving them a sensible weapon? What’s wrong with always starting with a knife?

Keep Votes
- Weak keep - Give them 2 pool cues and a knife, and maybe one more (irrelevant) weapon for flavor. Then it might be worth playing as a consumer. A knife would be an improvement but wouldn't go far enough. --Explodey 00:04, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep I think this would really help people who like role playing as consumer, the first thing I set out do when I started playing this game was look for a better weapon.--Jamie Cantwel3 TalkAll glory to the Hypnotoad! 03:13, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep- If they're going to screw us in the ass, lets make sure they don't have a disease. --UCFSD 14:14, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Consumers are very underpowered at the start - their only skill is useful only in areas they can't get to without managing to get enough XP for free-running. Scouts should not start out as better consumers than consumers. --Pgunn 21:07, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Why not. --Pvt human 06:28, 17 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - I know plenty of people who usually carry a pocket knife, but have yet to find a person who goes around with a fencing foil, or a pool cue. --Officer Dick Trickle 20:39, 27 May 2008 (BST)
- Keep - Author vote.--Kolechovski 20:10, 29 May 2008 (BST)
Kill Votes
- The random weapons represent the panicked "quick grab". There are better ideas like making the knife more readily available in searching (more buildings and/or higher search%), making the chances of starting with the knife higher in the RNG.--Pesatyel 02:19, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - As Pesatyel. Remember how Sarah Polley was introduced to the zombie apocalypse in the Dawn of the Dead remake? She didn't really have time to go search the kitchen drawers.--Jiangyingzi 03:16, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill/Change - I'd be fine with them getting a knife and a random item, but not just a knife, beacause Pesatyel is right. It's the panicked 'quick grab'. I'd also like to take this opportunity to say that my feet smell very bad. --The Real Robert Lord 07:00, 16 May 2008 (BST) - Sock -- Cheese 00:44, 19 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - as Pesatyel. And Midianian, actually, too. --WanYao 12:59, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Everyone above me has summed it up well.--SeventythreeTalk 15:57, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill Lets keep the game as varied as possible please! --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 18:45, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill I prefer the random nature of weapons for consumers. More types of random weapons! You might get a good thing, you might get garbage! --Cat 18:50, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - As above... and Midianian.-- 19:37, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - I like the way it is right now with the random weapon generation. --ZsL 22:51, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Maybe there was a zombie in the kitchen. --PdeqTalk* 03:55, 17 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - and so on -Druuuuu OcTRR 06:20, 17 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - Consumers ARE underpowered, but a knife spoils the flavour. Maybe give them two random weapons instead (let's say they grabbed one in each hand on their way out), so that they have a better chance of getting a weapon that is more useful. ~Ariedartin • Talk • A KS J abt all 07:08, 17 May 2008 (BST)
- kill - fine the way it is now--Scotw 15:50, 17 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - All those miscellaneous weapons like tennis rackets and pool cues would become useless.--Leon Vulcan 16:14, 17 May 2008 (BST)
- Kill - As the first vote. I think the random quick grab is a bit more thrilling and realistic. Ioncannon11 23:28, 19 May 2008 (BST)

- Kill - i like my fencing foil. --H The Person 19:05, 26 May 2008 (BST)
- lol - Just because you think a fencing foil is for cooking hot dogs. Also, as Midianian. --Vandurn 02:19, 27 May 2008 (BST)
- Re: Well, what else would I do with a metal stick like that? Besides, the point might help keep the hot dogs from sliding off into the fire, which I've had happen before with various other sticks.--Kolechovski 20:10, 29 May 2008 (BST)
Spam/Dupe Votes
- Spam - Take your filthy hands off my consumers, they're supposed to be hard! If you're a wussy, you can pick one of the easier character classes ;P. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 12:44, 16 May 2008 (BST)
- Spam - Sort of like Midianian, only consumers are supposed to suck... it's social commentary -- boxy talk • i 08:02 19 May 2008 (BST)
- Spam - Consumers can walk into any mall and get a new weapon using their skill. What's that? They can't because retarded 'barricade plans' mean they can't get in? Your fucking problem. Don't try and change the game engine to make up for shitty survivor tactics. -- . . <== DDR Approved Editor 18:31, 25 May 2008 (BST)
