Serious Matters

Warning # 1

  • Harassment of other users will not be tolerated. If any more harassment occurs, you will be banned. --The General W! Mod 14:10, 18 April 2006 (BST)

Harassment Policy Proposal Feedback

Odd Starter

  • I will get to responding to it, probably in the next day or so. I'm already up waaaaay past my bedtime as it is, and really shouldn't be fiddling with the wiki as is... -- Odd Starter talkModW! 15:53, 23 April 2006 (BST)
  • That's fine. Whenever's convenient. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 16:58, 23 April 2006 (BST)

Mia Kristos

  • I, for one, appreciate your work on it, and it does look good. I only have a few thoughts on it:
  1. Remove the whole bit about ignoring it. Harrasment shouldn't have to be ignored, because it shouldn't be going on to begin with. Additionally, I shouldn't have to avoid whole sections of the Wiki, or take some of my time to delete things from my user space. Exception is Other people's userspaces. Like Amazing has that whole Mama Mia thing. As aggitating as that is, I'm not going to say anything about it because it's in his user space.
  2. Leave Permaban for extreme cases only, like is done with vandal banning. Some people just have lousy people skills, so they shouldn't be banned forever.
    • Perhaps if the third violation was between one and two weeks, and each further violation was the same? -Wyndal (talk)-(W!)-(SGP) 17:10, 23 April 2006 (BST)
      • It would have to scale, of course, and the more violations, the closer to the maximum would be required to be appropriate. -Wyndal (talk)-(W!)-(SGP) 17:14, 23 April 2006 (BST)
  3. I'm not sure, but I think there should be something specifically about disregarding minor cases. Like calling someone a "Goof" shouldn't be regarded as harrassment.
    • As Bob already said, the player would have to report it. If they felt it was harassment, and the moderator in charge agreed, then it would continue. But I'd like to think that the mods are sane enough to not think that calling someone a 'goof' would be harassment. Thank God for the legal definition of 'reasonable person' - they're the ones that expect electrical appliances to react badly to water, fresh coffee to be hot, and fast food to be fattening. -Wyndal (talk)-(W!)-(SGP) 17:10, 23 April 2006 (BST)

Those are my thoughts, let me know what you think. --SirensT RR 16:35, 23 April 2006 (BST)

  • Those are good points. Point 3 is already dealt with. The mod can decide that a case isn't harassment. Users are punished for maliciously reporting harassment that isn't actually harassment, but at a much slower rate than if they had had a case brought against them that was passed. Talk to Wyndallin about the specifics on that one, he understands it a lot better than I do. I'll talk with him about Points 1 & 2. Do you mind if I move this to his and my talk pages? --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 16:39, 23 April 2006 (BST)

Ron Burgundy

Right off the bat, it's a very nice policy and I'd support it as is. Since we're not at that stage yet, though, I've got some suggestions and comments and such:

  1. I like the false accusation thing! If it works, maybe users will try fixing things on their own. That is, maybe people who hate each other will communicate and in so doing realize they're actually talking to a human. It does seem like it could be abused, though, since our mods aren't exactly perfect and some more dramatic people have cried wolf too many times. Maybe you could cut down on that by requiring one mod to verify harassment and two to verify a false accusation. Better yet, two and three. The more mods, the better. I realize they're overworked, but that's not reason to thin them out, it's reason to get more mods!
  2. Don't leave ban length up to the mods. It would make things easier on the mods and the community if the laws are as specific as possible. That way, the mods can't be any more heavy handed than the wiki users who write the laws allow and people who get banned can't play victim.
  3. Limiting the accused to one comment is brilliant! Keep that at all costs! Hell, put a word max on it! Also, do the same for the accuser and do the same for the false accusation section. One question, does the limit extend to the discussion page and if not, what's the weight of further harassment there?

I hope that's useful and good luck putting the policy forward. Maybe you two will make this wiki a Classier place than it already is! --Ron Burgundy 02:59, 24 April 2006 (BST)

Thanks Ron - that suggestion about the punishment length makes a hell of a lot of sense. Thanks! --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 06:08, 24 April 2006 (BST)

Grim s

I've read it, and as a person who makes it his business to know the ins and outs of the rules, as well as finding all the loopholes, i cant say the definition of harrassment is terribly good. I would suggest adding the terms "prolonged" and "unprovoked" to it, with reasonable cutoffs, defining "uprovoked" to be: Comments made more than 2 days after last attack or unreasonable aggression in retaliation, with the extent to which is unreasonable being determined by the mod on the spot. "Prolonged" would basically mean happening over a period of time, demonstrating a reasonable history of the behaviour. --Grim s-Mod 12:24, 24 April 2006 (BST)

Odd Starter

The system seems interesting, but unfortunately, I can't support it. Honestly, we moderators have very few duties, and I'd like to keep it that way, because the more duties we have, the less duties regular users are willing to perform. I see constantly that, should a responsibility of a particular user be born by external forces, the less likely that user will work towards shouldering that responsibility. Even if it's an obvious fact that some users cannot be trusted with the responsibilities of being a user, I think it's vitally important that we continue to assume that they will - because if we assume that everyone will assume responsibility for the problem, then hopefully someone will, and it doesn't have to be the same someone every time. -- Odd Starter talkModW! 13:30, 24 April 2006 (BST)

Response to your comments

We already went through this on the vandal banning page, where i made it completely clear that a persons vote is thier own opinion, and thus only they have the right to change it. I made my position quite clear by saying kill, then letting everyone know the vast amount of mental acrobatics involved if such a suggestion were implimented, a great deal less than anyone dealing with their own times because they are dealing with a known time difference and most likely memorised. For example i add 9 hours to every timestamp in game to reach my own time. Simple. I am still deciding if i should or should not report the offense, as you were clearly told that it wasnt on last time. --Grim s-Mod 17:53, 5 May 2006 (BST)

Oh, FUCK. I just re-read your vote... damn! Damn! Damn! Damn! I'm really sorry Grim. I honestly thought you were complimenting the suggestion. People stuff up sometimes. I do it all the time - start off not liking the suggestion, then ending up liking it but forgetting to change the vote. I just thought you did. That's ALL. Seriously. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 17:59, 5 May 2006 (BST)
Here is the deal: Promise never to change another persons vote ever again, and only leave a note on their talk page if you think they made a mistake, and i wont report you. This way we both win, i get my point across, and you get saved from official action. Deal? Please be warned that i will hold you to it. --Grim s-Mod 18:03, 5 May 2006 (BST)
Whatever it takes. DEAL. Thank you so much for being lenient. I don't deserve it for fucking up so badly, but you stll were. I'll have to come up with a way to make this up to you... --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 18:06, 5 May 2006 (BST)

Vandal Banning 101

From Cwissball's talk page — "Please do not vandalise groups' pages without permission on this wiki. If you continue this behaviour, you may be banned from editing the wiki. --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 12:17, 31 May 2006" — is it possible to vandalise a group page with permission? If you have their permission to vandalise a group's page, it can't be considered vandalism. (Unless the group gave permission to vandalise another group's page.)

Perhaps you can see why I consider this wording so terribly ambiguous that I want to spork my eyes out? –Xoid STFU! 12:46, 31 May 2006 (BST)

Looking at it now, it seems oddly hilarious. I'll fix it, though. --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 12:49, 31 May 2006 (BST)
IIRC, you are actually supposed to Subst: that template in, like with most of the warning type templates. Directions: here. (Doesn't matter now, but just thought you should know.) –Xoid STFU! 14:10, 31 May 2006 (BST)

A Bone to Pick

WTF? If you read what I wrote then WHY did you delete it anyway? If this is another case of you "blindly following the rules" because that wasn't a keep vote, then I'll report you for misconduct. It was more than fucking obvious that I wanted to use that image, even if the rest of the page wasn't salvagable. –Xoid STFU! 09:10, 3 June 2006 (BST)

I wasn't blindly following the rules, as you so elegantly put it. I simply didn't notice those three or four particular words, on account of the fact that I was skim reading. Even upon re-reading it it isn't more than fucking obvious that you wanted to use it. There was no "I want to use this image" statement. Just one obscure section of a sentence. Go ahead and report me if you like, but I won't apologise for what I thought was doing the right thing. I made damn sure (or so I thought) of the quality of my decision. People make mistakes all the time, Xoid. It's called "humanity". Everyone's human. I will make even more certain of my decisions in the future, but what's done is done. No use crying over spilt milk. All you can do is move on. --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 10:29, 3 June 2006 (BST)
At first, I didn't think it was a case of deliberate action, but when I noticed your reaction to The General's comment I was no longer so sure… That comment did make it sound like you read every word and simply didn't care. –Xoid STFU! 10:35, 3 June 2006 (BST)
I can assure you, if I had actually processed the part where you said you didn't want it deleted I wouldn't have. What possible reason would I have for deleting something to piss you off? --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 10:37, 3 June 2006 (BST)
That's what had me confused. If your reaction to The General had of been something to the effect of "Oh shit! Not again!", I wouldn't have bothered to bring it up, it's just that your reaction sent up a red flag. –Xoid STFU! 10:40, 3 June 2006 (BST)
I was pissed at The General mostly because he keeps on deleting my rollover text. I thought I had read it all. I was wrong. --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 10:43, 3 June 2006 (BST)
You really should use your template style signature in regular usage; (so he can't do it to most of them that way) - and just copy and paste from it when signing on the suggestions page. (Or become a really fast typer…) –Xoid STFU! 10:51, 3 June 2006 (BST)
Doesn't it screw up the Suggestions page? --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 10:53, 3 June 2006 (BST)
Which is why I sign manually there. That's also why I said "Or become a really fast typer…". Alternatively, you can just have this open in a new window and copy and paste it. –Xoid STFU! 10:59, 3 June 2006 (BST)

What?

There was something here, but the Drama Llama ate it before I could read it. That naughty llama. --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 13:37, 6 June 2006 (BST)

Moderation

You're getting quite quick on judging edits as vandalism, remember that the rules say when something can be vandalism not when it is. It isn't as simple as break a rule: get a warning. It's break a rule in bad faith: get a warning. We first must assume good faith only when good faith is ruled out (mistakes, being a bit overheated in situations when it is logical to be overheated, etc.) then we give a warning. Also not conforming to civil edit standards is not direct vandalism. only when it is over a prolonged period of time and clearly used in a way to troll and be abusive it is. Even then the infraction has to be numerous and clear cut. We are called moderators because not only do we moderate the wiki and moderate between users. But also because we need to be moderate and restraint in our actions during our duties.--Vista 13:57, 6 June 2006 (BST)

Amazing IP Ban

While it is technically possibly (weird that one actually, IP bans didn't work a month ago, now they do) I don't think it's necessary nor a good idea before we can check IP addresses on the wiki. If there's some pending need we might bug Kevan about that one wiki plug-in that enables IP checking. --Brizth mod T W! 11:31, 20 June 2006 (BST)

Re:Amazing's user page

I think it's a lot of effort to go to to remove something that most users will never see. I'd recommend just waiting for the next edit history purge, and leaving it at that.
With that said, of course, do what you feel is appropriate. If you feel that the situation warrants this course of action, by all means take it. -- Odd Starter talkModW! 16:56, 22 June 2006 (BST)

Hey, can you help?

I'm feeling unwell at the moment and I'll be getting alot of rest so I was wondering if you would mind cycling the suggestions for a few days until I get better. It would be very helpful and it'll keep the system running smoothly as posiable. Well let me know, I'm feeling that my judgement is impaired so thats why I'm not going to do it for a while. (I voted 3 times on one suggestion!) - Jedaz 09:28, 24 June 2006 (BST)

I'll see... dunno if I'll get it right. I'm sure Xoid will be there to point out any mistakes I make. Cyberbob  Talk  09:52, 24 June 2006 (BST)
I've done June 23rd. Take a look and tell me if I fucked up. Also, for the love of god, how many times do I have to say that SctGeeDaddy did not steal your layout. Check out "his" signature, the evidence is right there. (The sig.) –Xoid STFU! 10:31, 24 June 2006 (BST)
I, however, liberally stole Cyberbob's layout and then made it better different. ;) –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 10:32, 24 June 2006 (BST)
And another reason to update the bottom. He may now, finally add me, as I'm going to steal the menu bar from his after I'm done posting this. –Xoid STFU! 10:35, 24 June 2006 (BST) Nah, fuck that. I'll steal Bob Hammero's just to spite you Cyber. :P –Xoid STFU! 10:36, 24 June 2006 (BST)
What about my swanky two-column layout? I like that. And Cyberbob, you can't claim I've stolen your entire page, since I have no Archive, Classifications, or Arbitration page. Ha! –Bob Hammero ModB'cratTA 18:31, 24 June 2006 (BST)
Thanks for your help Cyberbob, and thanks to Xoid as well. I should be good from here to take it back up. Thanks for doing that for me for a little while. - Jedaz 10:31, 28 June 2006 (BST)

Chatter

April 2006

Thanks from Ron Burgundy

  • Thanks for the legal analysis! I think I'm going to follow up on this humor on the suggestions page/reactionary moderation question, the ideal of a more utopian wiki in mind. I think this[2] is the place to talk about it, since "Misconduct" seems so official. Anyhow, you stay Classy and thanks again! --Ron Burgundy 19:08, 17 April 2006 (BST)
  • You're perfectly welcome Ron. I stand for the underdog! Down with overbearing mods who think they own the place! --Cyberbob240CDF 02:09, 18 April 2006 (BST)

Hypocrisy?

  • I noticed your vote on the "Wanted" Suggestion where you talk about how PKers are going to vote kill as a knee jerk reaction, yet in your original vote you wrote "What's this? An anti-PK'er suggestion? Gets the big "Yes!" from me." That sounds pretty kneejerk to me. Also, as a registered Pker I actually liked this suggestion. So don't assume, and don't be such a hypocritical troll. --Mpaturet 17:02, 18 April 2006 (BST)
  • Get a life. Anyone with even the most basic social skills would have interpreted my vote as a joke (not the actual vote; the comment). --Cyberbob240CDF 17:05, 18 April 2006 (BST)
  • Hey guys! Cyberbob knows all about social skills! Small matter if everyone here hates him! Except Amazing, but then again everyone here hates Amazing too. Are you going to run for mod? Are you going to whine until you're made mod against an overwhelming kill vote? Nobody loves you in real life or the internets. Plz die kthxbai--Mpaturet 00:19, 19 April 2006 (BST)
  • OK, I love this everytime someone accusing someone else of being a troll they act like a complete jerk while doing it. Seriously don't you people realize that by acting rude and crass you are in fact provoking rude and trollish actions from people? It's just plain counterproductive in my humble opinion. That goes for you too, Cyberbob. --Prosperina 00:31 19 April 2006.
  • It doesn't matter how nice I am about labelling people trolls, I get called one anyway! --Cyberbob240CDF 08:38, 19 April 2006 (BST)
  • Since you're siding with Amazing, you have to understand your associating yourself with board drama, that means you have to be extra careful cuz shit gets blown out of proportion. If people act rude to you, you can't retaliate in the same manner with a hostile audience. As I was telling Amazing, you have to pick and choose your battles, if you go accusing people wholesale you get yourself labeled as unreasonable. Don't give them ammo to hit you with, if they want to rant and rave, let them. They'll make a big mistake soon enough and you can nail them on that. However if you single them out constantly it becomes a personal attack. --Prosperina 08:57 19 April 2006.
  • Fair enough. I'll try and keep a lid on it, but there are some things I HAVE to respond to. You should give some advice to Grim s on how to handle matters like this, Prosperina. --Cyberbob240CDF 09:02, 19 April 2006 (BST)
  • Thank you, Don't worry, I will next time he looks like he needs it. --Prosperina 23:14 19 April 2006.

Syllable question

  • In your haiku, your first line reads, "I know what I'm doing." The problem here is that if you mean doing as in present tense form of "do" then you are breaking the syllable form of a haiku (five/seven/five), as doing is two syllables. If you mean doing as in the sound effect, you are right on. If you meant the first form of doing, may I suggest you change it to something like "I know what I do" that is properly five syllables? I look forward to reading any further ouevre's you may post. -- a capsized pogo-stick

Vista's Modship Bid

  • I'm pretty sure Vista would not have put up his application for modship if he already was a mod :) (he isn't) --Brizth M T 14:52, 19 April 2006 (BST)
  • Whoops. I got Vista confused with hagnat. My bad. --Cyberbob240CDF 14:55, 19 April 2006 (BST)

Stuff

  • You're a decent person, from what I can see. I don't agree with either extreme on the 'Amazing' issue - in fact, I consider both points of view to be more reactionary and inflammatory than the PK debate - but the fact that you're not as illogical or obtuse as either side says something. And for the record, I agree that Grim is a bit of an asshat. He calls it 'blunt', I call it 'poor etiquette' and 'tactless'. But regardless, keep on keeping on. -Wyndallin 01:23, 21 April 2006 (BST)

I noticed that always when you answer to someone, on talk or other pages, you use exactly the same indention as the one you are answering to. It makes it really hard to follow who says something to who. For example, on Moderation/Deletions#Template:HailXenu it's a bit unclear if you are answering to me or Mpaturet.

  • Here's your bag of silver Judas. Nice job betraying Jesus--Mpaturet 01:51, 23 April 2006 (BST)
  • What? I never betrayed him. All I'm doing is taking a less rabid stance. I still don't believe he should be banned. See the lengthy discussion I had with Mia and Wyndallin on Mia's talk page. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 02:12, 23 April 2006 (BST)
  • I know and I think that's fine. This was just because he seemed to act like you had stabbed him in the back. Also he apparently think he's Jesus--Mpaturet 02:20, 23 April 2006 (BST)
  • Oh OK. I'll try to explain it to him. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 02:30, 23 April 2006 (BST)

  • I've made a page for a proposal that concerns the arbitration of Amazing's current cases here. --Prosperina 08:55 23 April 2006 (BST)

  • You agreed to publish an inflammatory page that included me. I think I have the right to be a little angry, don't you? --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 03:20, 29 April 2006 (BST)
  • You have every right to be angry. Just not at me. I only published it. Doesn't mean I read it all. I copied and pasted everything given to me. Saromu 03:33, 29 April 2006 (BST)
  • Give me the usernames of the people who gave it to you, then. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 03:43, 29 April 2006 (BST)
  • So you want me to sell out on friends because you're pissed over a joke? Did you actually think that was going to work? Saromu 03:46, 29 April 2006 (BST)
  • I've got no other target unless you tell me. You're the only one I see involved in all this. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 03:47, 29 April 2006 (BST)
  • So what are you going to do about it? I'm not getting in trouble for it. It was deleted. It's not vandal. Seriously, chill out. It's called a joke. Maybe people wouldn't make jokes about you if you didn't get on their case for things like this. Saromu 03:49, 29 April 2006 (BST)
  • This is the first time it's happened. So that last point of yours makes no sense. Also, "jokes" like that are designed for one thing: to embarrass and insult other people. DON'T come to me with that bullshit about it being a harmless joke, because it isn't, and wasn't meant to be. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 03:52, 29 April 2006 (BST)
  • Dude I barely know you. So whatever jokes are said about you I didn't believe. But you're making a terrible first impression. Now it was a harmless joke by me. I don't know you nor care. Listen carefully. It was a joke. You were barely mentioned in it. Go on with your life. Saromu 03:58, 29 April 2006 (BST)
  • As I don't know you either (or care about your opinions), I don't really care what sort of impression I'm making. BUT, back to the discussion at hand. You admit it!!! It was your joke! --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 04:02, 29 April 2006 (BST)
  • I admit to publishing it as a joke. I already said that...about 15 times in the past day. Now go on with your life and stop looking for drama. Saromu 04:03, 29 April 2006 (BST)
  • No, you said it was your joke. I'm not looking for drama: YOU were, by posting that page. You must have known you were going to get responses. Well, mission accomplished. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 04:05, 29 April 2006 (BST)

Yes, I've heard them all. Now get on with your life. Unless you're going to die from this please don't continue. Saromu 04:16, 29 April 2006 (BST)

'bout Saromu

  • Stop worrying about it. He (Saromu) doesn't care, and you don't need to try and work with him, ever. He'll never do anything actually interesting as well, because if he doesn't have balls to take responsibility and stand up for himself, then he doesn't have the courage to actually write anything that takes more than five seconds to type. --Karlsbad 05:35, 29 April 2006 (BST)

Mod Bid

I'm sending this message out to everyone who had spoken on my modship bid. Recently it was suggested that I wipe the slate clean and start over with a new bid. I decided against this for two main reasons: First, I don't want to risk causing any drama, and Second, I don't want to risk people on either side not being heard the second time around.

I am, however, asking anyone who has spoken to take a moment of thier time to review the case and deatermine if they need to change thier vote or, more than likely, keep it as is. Thank you. --SirensT RR 14:53, 12 May 2006 (BST)

Your user page

Just a friendly suggestion. Under the "tags" section you may want to center 'em. I reckon' it'd look neater that way. Or you could {{Stubst:}} them in, then make them the same width. –Xoid STFU! 12:29, 3 May 2006 (BST)

Hang on. They're all left-aligned, aren't they? That's what they look like to me. They're all on a straight line down their left side. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 12:36, 3 May 2006 (BST)
Yeah, they are left aligned, which is why I suggested that you may want to center them, or stretch 'em out, since your user page seems to be going for the "neat" effect and all. Alternatively, you may want to force the archive template to go to the left, if you are going for consistency. Just my 2¢ for what it's worth. –Xoid STFU! 12:47, 3 May 2006 (BST)
I've tried centreing them: it doesn't work :'( --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 12:50, 3 May 2006 (BST)
It does, you just need to know what to do. I edited your page to demonstrate, hope you don't mind terribly. I think the <center></center> tags would've worked too, but they're deprecated and frowned upon by the W3C. I'll take a punt and say you tried using the align="alignment" attribute on the various templates. Unless you use that on the {| section, then it won't work. If you tried something else, and it didn't work, or you are using IE and it still looks like everything is left aligned, then I'd say it'd be the browser not supporting the current tags. Microsoft hasn't really updated MSIE 6.x with much more than bugfixes for some time. –Xoid STFU! 13:48, 3 May 2006 (BST)
Clarification — when I mentioned {|, I meant the one inside the actual template itself. Funnily enough… by removing the margin: 0 2em 0 2em; rule inside the CSS on a couple of templates, they suddenly centred themselves. XHTML is a fickle mistress. –Xoid STFU! 13:58, 3 May 2006 (BST)
Thanks. Messing around with that sidebar there is kinda hard :( --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 14:44, 3 May 2006 (BST)
PS: I did use the align="alignment" thing inside the actual template! Oh, I see. The margin thing was screwing it up. Gotcha! --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 08:39, 4 May 2006 (BST)

At the bottom of your user page it said that I raided the code from you. I raided it from Mia, and have done an almost complete rewrite of it, so I removed my name from that list. You may also want to look at Template:Australian, Template:CookieThief and a few others, to see how they've changed, and whether you wish to update your version. –Xoid STFU! 08:28, 9 May 2006 (BST)

You do know that the |- is unnecessary at the start or end of tables, right? By trimming those out, it may help to make your user page's code easier to read. –Xoid STFU! 11:28, 11 May 2006 (BST)

Ooooh, ooooh, I dare you to leave it there. For a whole month. If you do, I'll give you this bag of air. (Can you tell I'm on a sugar bender?) –Xoid STFU! 17:32, 15 May 2006 (BST)

I say it's time to let him stew. I'm over the semantics of some fucking n00b (note the difference with a newb) who just wants some attention and respect. He's got a whole shitload of one but none of the other. Can you guess which is which? Cyberbob  Talk  --14:27, 16 May 2006 (BST)

I think this — margin: 1em auto 1em auto; — is what people must have been trying when they first used the "margin" thing, someone screwed up and used margin: 0 2em 0 2em;, and it just spiralled out of control from there. Oh, and check out this page. It still rawks. –Xoid STFU! 13:53, 20 May 2006 (BST)

About your claim that the Sct McGee dude raided the code for your user page, just check out his signature section. He raided it from Mia. And this page also rocks. –Xoid STFU! 09:09, 25 May 2006 (BST)

Modship bid

Bob it's not needed to bomb the promotions page, we still look at it, but seeing that you recently had a bid up as well, the lukewarm responce is probably because of that. Patience is a virtue a mod needs as well.--Vista W! 14:11, 5 May 2006 (BST)

Not that recently - a month. That's a fair while, isn't it? --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 14:13, 5 May 2006 (BST)
You'd be suprised. Even if Amazing stopped being impulsive and reformed, there are some people who would never trust him again, if they ever did. Earning someone's trust and admiration takes time. You are rapidly earning mine in most areas, but Vista has a good point, patience is a virtue. I wouldn't have brought that up if it wasn't for the seemingly impatient attitude you displayed on the promotions page.
It will take time to earn the trust of others, particularly those who are skeptics and pessimists. Others will judge you based on your merits, but have very high standards, Grim s, for one. Others will give you the benefit of the doubt. Between all of that, a modship bid this early after your declaration of reform seems unwise.
Same advice as I gave Mia on her talk page, only make it either two months more, or you will need to do overtime to earn people's respect and trust. Even then, time is the key factor here, people who got burned by you, or who had friends get burned by you, won't let that go immediately. –Xoid STFU! 17:34, 5 May 2006 (BST)
Surely if ASS can accept me, others can. See their talk page. I successfully got them to remove me from their Enemies list. They wouldn't have done that unless they accepted my reform, would they? --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 17:37, 5 May 2006 (BST)
Some people hold grudges longer than others, some don't hold grudges at all — people and their personalities aren't an exact science. And even one too many unhappy people can be enough to prevent modship. Believe me, whenever someone has vocal detractors, there will be lurkers too. Some of whom may not have been interested in the flamewars, but will take a keen interest in harming your chances for modship simply because being a moderator is a big deal.
When thinking hard on why I have reservations of your bid for modship, I came up with the following: "…frankly, being a moderator isn't a priveledge, it's a goddamned burden. I know from experience. So I'm bemused by the current deluge of "make me a moderator" requests. But that is besides the point really. I know damn well that someone your age can shoulder the sort of responsibility and do an excellent job of it, so age isn't age that I'm worried about. Experience? You've got decent skill with the wiki, not outstanding (precious few of the moderators seem to have outstanding skill in wikimarkup.), which is more than adequete. The only thing I can think of is that you seem over-eager, and that makes me uneasy.
Despite the inherit logic behind "you're a teenager, of course you're eager and excitable on occasions", I'll be dead honest with you: my instinct tells me that giving power to any one seemingly over-eager for a position of power is a risky proposition. Others may have the same gut instinct. –Xoid STFU! 17:56, 5 May 2006 (BST)
Over-eager? I wouldn't say that. I was given advice last bid by Vista to leave it for about a month. I have. If you think it should be longer, I can wait longer. It's as simple as that. I was acting on advice. My impatience on the Promotions page is because of people accessing and editing the Promotions page, and completely ignoring my bid. Even people who normally take an interest in such things. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 18:24, 5 May 2006 (BST)
You may make it through at the moment, based on people who have only witnessed current actions, or by the forgiving. You may not make it through by people who are skeptical, dislike on a fundamental level, or do not think you have what it takes. Given the rather short time frame between bids, and yes, 1 month is short relatively speaking, the odds of a successful bid for modship are against you.
Assuming your reform is genuine, you are moderator potential. That's the key factor here — time. With both experience and effort, you will put to rest most grievances that people have with you. The problem is that with few exceptions, the moderators have done numerous major things for the wiki.
Personally, I will not comment on your bid at the actual page for at least another two days. I need to do some research. That's why I don't say things one way or another with most of the potential moderators, unless I know from actually looking it up, I won't let rumour and heresay take place of good judgement.
For the moment, I don't think you'll get through because the odds seem to be stacked against you — many people here are the type that have either really high standards or hold grudges. All this being said, don't let it get you down. –Xoid STFU! 19:04, 5 May 2006 (BST)
And I whould want to second most if not all that xoid said. I think you certianly have potential, and in due time i will vote on your bid, I haven't decided for or against yet, xoid doubts are my own. I certianly have seen you grow in the past month, but I'm not quite sure you're there yet. It's just a bad time to try now and having a bid before that didn't went to well isn't a help. trouble is we had a recent moderator drive that had 10 people applying with quite likely 4 promotions in close to a month, people not replying to your request now is partly because of that too, partly because a lot of people are apprehensive, if they were actually (radically) opposed to you your bid whould be shot down by now like mattiator's. After ten days CPQD still has only one comment and I certainly believe he whould be just as good as you or the others still requiring vouches. Now i've explained myself better then the first time (I needed to catch a train for a dinner-date) I'll vote when my case is resolved, and I'll agree with xoid one more time. All this being said, don't let it get you down.--Vista W! 00:09, 6 May 2006 (BST)

Mostly you behaved like a fifteen-year old newbie who dived in the deep end immediatly by pissing grim off. But you tried to improve both yourself and the wiki from the start but had some trouble finding the right tone. That said, you better remove the strike out of scinfaxi's vote, Kevan does pay attention to who said what so you're not in any trouble from that. I think you're response to it is more important. Showing that you won't respond to a trol's vote whould do more for your promotion then striking it out, IMO--Vista W! 10:16, 12 May 2006 (BST)

I tried using the blue for the border, but it looked too much like a newborn baby thing. That and you can't even see the border, though your background thing doesn't help.  :) If you want to see it with the blue border and without the green background, just click "edit" on this comment and then click "show preview."

I realize that the border is ugly, what with being so thick and black, so how's this one work? It's thin!

Nationalism

Bob, grow some thicker skin man. It's a JOKE, and in case you didn't notice, I did manage to include a mostly legitament reason as to why you should NOT be a moderator. I doubt you can remain unbiased, which was the point that I made. I'm sorry if you were offended, but you'll need to be less sensitive if you're supposed to be a moderator. Scinfaxi 02:01, 13 May 2006 (BST)

I never really was that pissed off... if I was, you can be sure I would have been more vocal in my outrage. An apology for a joke that went awry would be nice, though. A simple apology... --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 02:31, 13 May 2006 (BST)
I'm sorry bob, but SERIOUSLY, that did not have to go on for that long. Scinfaxi 06:22, 13 May 2006 (BST)
I wasn't really part of that argument. I only posted something like twice. The main source was Mia, I think. Anyway, I'd like an apology, plus a rewording of the vote. If it was really intended as a joke, you should be sorrowful that it hurt others' feelings, and be totally willing to withdraw it. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 06:24, 13 May 2006 (BST)
Yeah, I withdraw it and watch how many people bitch and moan that I edited it bob. It might just win me another community service award. Scinfaxi 06:31, 13 May 2006 (BST)
They won't moan if you just strike it out and type something better instead of deleting it. And I still haven't got that apology... --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 06:32, 13 May 2006 (BST)
I've already said sorry several times bob. That's about all I'm prepared to say on the subject. I'll scratch the first part but there is no need to re-word the actual point of it. Scinfaxi 06:35, 13 May 2006 (BST)
Would you like to point out where? The only apologies I've seen are ones that go, "I'm sorry, but..." which aren't real apologies at all - just argumentative tools designed to make you look like you're doing the right thing. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 06:37, 13 May 2006 (BST)
Traditionally apologies are followed by an explaination. Would you like to bold the I'm sorry comments to make them stick out? Anyways, I struck the comment. Sorry to all those offended and hurt by my bigoted comment against the people of Australia. Scinfaxi 06:41, 13 May 2006 (BST)

Thanks for you r message of support Cyberbob. Who does that guy think he is, talking trash to people like that. He said I had no content on my page (Criteria 1), but i had a picture of my UD character and a little descriptor, all attached to my groups page by link. I thought I was contributing to the game, and didn't even know i'd done something wrong. I don't know an awful lot about computers but i wanted to have a go. Best thing to do is ignore him, he's a fanny (British meaning, not US). His 'angry young man' image will disappear with his first sexual encounter. Cheers! -Dog Deever 11:57, 13 May 2006 (BST)

His original stated aim was to create something that sounded authorative and was neutral in tone. You want to complain about it's wording, you can complain to him, instead of bitching to me about it. All I added to it, was a preface as to what the message was about, links to the pages, and a pair of links to two of the more important policies of the wiki.
I know they're off limits, I just don't care. Check the concept of natural law, and compare it's basic principles (Roughly: "Some things just are, regardless of what official rules exist." It's the primary reasoning behind the concept of human rights.) to my reasoning for alterations: "I'm fixing something that is a stuff up. If it ain't hurting them, their reputation, their formatting, or anything else, why are they complaining? Purely because they want to raise a fuss." –Xoid STFU! 12:47, 13 May 2006 (BST)

I can. 'Fuckstain'. 'Arsegike.' --Dog Deever 13:19, 13 May 2006 (BST)
"Arsegike"? — That's the problem with all the common swear words; use 'em too frequently and they lose their impact, and you look unoriginal. The problem with inventing new ones is that they rarely have the desired impact. –Xoid STFU! 13:55, 13 May 2006 (BST)
Hey, Cyberbob — what happened with this edit? Was that because you were uncareful? If not you might have one of those browsers that MediaWiki is talking about when it gives you the warning: (to paraphrase) "This page is whatever kb long, some broswers have difficulty, yada, yada.". It could also just be a bug in the software, it's acted weirdly quite often as of late. –Xoid STFU! 13:55, 13 May 2006 (BST)
Hmm. It has happened to me before... but I don't think that's why. When I refresh a few times it works. It never used to do it - it's only started lately. --Cyberbob240CDF - Arb - W! 13:58, 13 May 2006 (BST)
Very strange then. Admittedly, as software gets older, bitrot eventually occurs. It may just be one of those intermittant bugs, y'know, the sort that disappear the moment you actually start looking for 'em. I hate that kind. Anyway, as long as there are no further comments from either of you, I'll be off being an arsehole somewhere else. –Xoid STFU! 14:06, 13 May 2006 (BST)

Thanks for your comments. Attack of the 500ft n00b

Saw the comment on his actual talk page. He wasn't pissing me off per se, because he wasn't specifically affecting me. Irritating me by being an idiot that doesn't deserve to reproduce? Sure.

But telling n00bs off is useless. Even with the subtlety of a sledgehammer, they never learn. Check Rip purr's archive, I tried explaining about 4 times about the recruitment page before I simply gave up. –Xoid STFU! 17:35, 15 May 2006 (BST)

You'll find that page is for gathering "evidence" of a sort. All the comments are there to allow people to weight the argument for or against you becoming a moderator. Simple, Conndraka struck a nerve with his comments about different mods, I've been weighting people to all three at the same time, but the Behavioral aspect being dominant. You're a good kid, hardworking and willing to learn. You'll be a good functional and opperational Mod. a better one then me at those areas. We need more mods like that. And I'll simply kick you from banning vandals if you start to bleep it up there. Do not change your sig to "A bothan Spy" because there is actually a user by the name. Proof: User:A Bothan Spy --Mattiator 16:25, 27 May 2006 (BST)

Frankly Mattiator, I wouldn't have put it past you to make that account purely to spite Cyberbob. –Xoid STFU! 16:37, 27 May 2006 (BST)
Same here. Until I am told by a Moderator who has fully checked out the validity of "A Bothan Spy", I will be remaining as is. --A Bothan SpyCDF - WTF - U! 16:48, 27 May 2006 (BST)
And there you have it. Seeing it's edit history, I doubt there will be much confusion. Bob can continue using it as long as it's doesn't cause troubles because he used it before the name was claimed. As soon as the A Bothan Spy account begins to cause troubles we'll look into a solution. And of course if the account is purely made to spite bob, and start causing troubles that whould be vandalism and impersonation. not the other way around.--Vista 16:50, 27 May 2006 (BST)
What if Mattiator starts using his A Bothan Spy account to start protesting in loud outrage? Is there any way to verify the IP addresses of Mattiator and A Bothan Spy? --A Bothan SpyCDF - WTF - U! 16:52, 27 May 2006 (BST)
It is an actual account, but unless it actually starts contributing then I'd say you are in the clear. Mattiator: if you weren't such a cunt, people wouldn't have such a low opinion of you, and this ruse might've actually worked. –Xoid STFU! 16:54, 27 May 2006 (BST)
I know it's an actual account... just an alt of Mattiator's. --A Bothan SpyCDF - WTF - U! 16:55, 27 May 2006 (BST)

Mattiator only created this account to trouble bob. As for me, i would warn mattiator for inpersonation, ban 'a bothan spy' account and redirect that user page to bob's user page. --hagnat mod 17:02, 27 May 2006 (BST)

There is no way to verify an IP adress at the moment, something that is dearly missed. But considering the timing the edit history of the account and the way mattiator reported it the "A Bothan Spy" account there is little doubt that it's mattiator. And the account will be treated as an alternative account of him. If it turns out to be a genuine user, he will be politely asked to start up a new account with a name not currently in use. Either way, you're in the clear with this.--Vista 17:03, 27 May 2006 (BST)

Lets get not to carried away with wanting to ban an idiot. the a bothan spy account has done nothing that would put Cyberbob in a bad light. I'd wait intill it does. In the mean time I suggest putting up a notice and redirect to Cyberbob's account.--Vista 17:30, 27 May 2006 (BST)
Oops... already reported. However, Mattiator's recent spasm of shitty suggestions (see the Suggestions page and you'll instantly know what I'm talking about) lends a certain degree of urgency to proceedings. --A Bothan SpyCDF - WTF - U! 17:30, 27 May 2006 (BST)
I'll leave the judgement to hagnat for precisely that reason. I just thought we could wait a while untill we had more wrongdoing as the outcome whould've been either the same or it would've fizzeled without problems. On the other hand Mattiator has skirted vandalism and the ban hammer for long enough now so I don't care much either way.--Vista 17:36, 27 May 2006 (BST)
If everyone is in agreement that it is an obvious case of impersonation, then doesn't that make the third strike against Mattiator? –Xoid STFU! 17:08, 27 May 2006 (BST)

What's wrong with a jpg? And to be honest, not really :P --A Bothan SpyCDF - WTF - U! 18:00, 27 May 2006 (BST)
Notice how the PNG is clearer, less distortion? That's because of the way that jpegs are compressed — It's a heavily lossy alogrithm optimised for shitloads™ of colours. A photo of your wang something should be in JPG format. The wiki page having barely any difference in colours was better suited to be saved as a PNG. –Xoid STFU! 18:07, 27 May 2006 (BST)
To be honest Bob as a soon to moderator it's not nice to gloat publically when somebody get banned... (we do it privatly, and use insane laughter while wringing our hands a lot)--Vista 18:15, 27 May 2006 (BST)
I'm not gloating; merely exhibiting the fineness of our moderator force. I'll see if I can soften up the heading a bit, though. Make it a bit more "politically correct" (not the right term, I know, but you know what I mean) --A Bothan SpyCDF - WTF - U! 18:20, 27 May 2006 (BST)
You could always make the heading, "For Great Justice!". –Xoid STFU! 18:54, 27 May 2006 (BST)

GAH! You don't know your Zero Wing? OMFG, you poor, poor boy. "All your base are belong to us", "Somebody set us up the bomb", "For Great Justice!" and many, many other catchphrases come from that game's disgraceful attempt to translate it's intro into English. –Xoid STFU! 19:16, 27 May 2006 (BST)

Chatter, chatter

Some people have, um, interesting worries about me. Huh. --Bob Hammero TW!U! 08:43, 1 June 2006 (BST)

Don't worry. Kevan is intelligent; he can decide for himself whether the worries are real or not. I must admit though, I got pretty lucky. The only people who voted against me were n00bs whose (fairly weak) complaints boosted my case (I think) and MaulMachine, and you know how much Kevan would take MaulMachine's word for truth... :) --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 08:48, 1 June 2006 (BST)
PS - Although, I find myself agreeing with Nubis a bit. While I know you've changed permanently, you did make your bid a little too soon after the change. If you get rejected by Kevan, that'll be why more than anything else, in my opinion. If that happens though, it's no biggie. Simply come back in... oh, give it roughly a month. --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 08:52, 1 June 2006 (BST)

No no, I already found it. Thanks though. I was kidding about emulating Bush. ;-) But seriously, I feel better after re-reading the comments. The "Against" I take most seriously is Nubis's; the other two I weigh less heavily. It's just a bit of a punch in the gut when you see "oh look, something new on my bid... an against. Yay." --Bob Hammero TW!U! 09:30, 1 June 2006 (BST)
I was in the same boat. Don't worry too much. Kevan takes all of your aspects into account - not just your bad side (which, as you say, is pretty much gone). --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 09:33, 1 June 2006 (BST)

I've been leaving a pseudo-customized boilerplate "please look at my bid, if you would" sort of comment on a few people's pages who seem to have contributed a fair amount to other past moderator bids. We'll see what they say, I suppose. --Bob Hammero TW!U! 09:04, 1 June 2006 (BST)

Should know better

No duh. The problem is that relevant comments can be made on that voters talk page, sure, but do you really want to have to message every second voter who didn't bother to read something, or think it their reasoning through at all? It's particularly bad when an otherwise good suggestion gets kills 'cause nobody RTFS. It's worse when a shit suggestion gets keep votes that use spurious reasoning that isn't meant in a purely sarcastic fashion. The current system is flawed and some people take offence to it; read Jedaz's praise on my user page. I'm not the only one around here with that opinion. –Xoid STFU! 15:55, 2 June 2006 (BST)

Make a policy changing it if you don't like it. I don't think it's all that great either; however, it is the system we've got. As I said, if you want it changed, go change it! --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 15:57, 2 June 2006 (BST)

Follow Up: You have no idea how useful it is having various human groups tell me where to find a fresh meal. Maybe you should get one or three for your zombie — tune them into a couple of good stations, like 26.26 … I ain't afraid to work both ends against the middle ;-) … 26.66 - Less useful, but good to know general movements of PKers, their victims and their hunters (all three of which are a tasty treat) … heh, I'm loving this, so useful for a mid-level zombie controlled by a player with some cunning. –Xoid STFU! 09:01, 7 June 2006 (BST)
I might just do that. --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 09:02, 7 June 2006 (BST)
Almost forgot, there's also the obvious benefit of knowing that survivors are going to raid section X, or section Y, etc. Moving into a heavily zombulated area to lessen the chance of gettin' headshot. The tactical advantages are working out pretty well; I haven't had this much fun as a zombie for some time. Is there any rule against replacing a page with an enormously overhauled version, especially a high-profile one such as Suggestions Dos and Do Nots? Re:warning

he may not want made public knowledge. After all, if he did, wouldn't he have already have put it there?

He had nothing against revealing that information: http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Talk:The_Abandoned#Accusations

Since a User page is required to leave a message to that user on his Talk page, I had to create one for him.

Explain to me how is that supposed to be vandalism? --The Fifth Horseman 17:06, 8 June 2006 (BST)

The content of the information is not the vandalism, as was pointed out to me by Nubis. The vandalism was the fact that you changed his user page - not the content of the info. You don't need to have a user page before your talk page can be accessed at all, as evidenced by my creation of Nob666's talk page just then, when he doesn't have a user page. Don't edit other people's user pages except to correct typos or to fix coding errors. --A Bothan Spy Mod WTF U! 17:14, 8 June 2006 (BST)
