UDWiki:Administration/Speedy Deletions
This page is for the request of speedy page deletions within the Urban Dead wiki. Due to concerns about loss of data, the ability to delete pages is restricted to the system operators. As such, regular users will need to request a deletion from the sysops. For consistency and accountability, system operators also adhere to the guidelines listed here.
In a restricted set of circumstances, system operators may delete pages without full consultation of the wiki community. This is usually restricted to pages that do not seem to have any legitimate information or function within the wiki, or for pages that have been created by mistake and are requested to be deleted by the author. In these circumstances, a Speedy Deletion may take place, allowing system operators to quickly remove these pages from the wiki.
Guidelines for Speedy Deletion Requests
All Deletion Requests must contain the following information in order to be considered:
- A link to the page in question. Preferably bolded for visibility.
- A reason for deletion. This should be short and to the point.
- A signed datestamp. This can be easily done by adding
~~~~
to the end of your request.
Further, you should place {{speedydelete}} at the top of the page you are nominating for speedy deletion.
Any deletion request that does not contain these three pieces of information will not be considered, and will be removed by a system operator.
Once the speedy deletion request has been entered, the request shall remain on this page, where it will be reviewed by a member of the moderation team, and action taken accordingly. Once action has been taken, the request will be moved into the Archive, and the system operator shall add a signed datestamp to the archived request.
A Speedy Deletion may be circumvented by a single vote of Keep under the request. If this occurs, the system operator shall move the Speedy Deletion request to the Deletion Request Queue, where the normal rules for Deletion of the page shall apply. Further, a user may choose to move a request from the Speedy Deletion queue to the Deletion Request Queue should they feel that the deletion may attract controversy within the wiki community, but do not wish to cast a Keep vote for the request. Should either of these circumstances occur, the deletion candidate should remain in the Deletion Request Queue until the alloted two weeks is up.
In the event of a sysop requesting Speedy Deletion, all the previous points will apply, excepting that a system operator other than the requester shall review and take action on the request.
Speedy Deletion Eligibility
To be eligible for a Speedy Deletion Request, the page must fall under at least one of the following criteria:
- No Content: The page contains no more than a line or two of content that cannot clearly be expanded, consists of random or incoherent content, or is duplicated elsewhere to no purpose.
- Off-Topic: The page is a clearly off-topic page.
- Unused Redirect: The page is an unused or underused (ie, only 1-2 pages using the link) redirect.
- Empty Category: The page is a Category page that has no entries within it.
- Missed Talk Page: The page is a Talk: Page from a previous deletion request that has not been deleted with the request (please note the relevant deletion request if this is so)
- As of 19 May 2010, Crit 5 is now a scheduled deletion.
- Deletion Workaround: The page is a duplicate of a page that has been deleted from a previous deletion request (please note the relevant deletion request if this is so). A page that fits this criterion is immediately qualified for deletion without requiring it be nominated on the 'Speedy Deletions' page. Recreating a page that fits this criterion will get you a polite message to stop doing so. Any further infractions of this nature will qualify as vandalism and will be treated as such. Note that criterion 6 does not apply when the page has been restored through Undeletions.
- Author Edit Only: The page has been requested for speedy deletion by the original author, and has been edited only by its author. Note that edits by adbots or vandals and reverts caused by them do not count.
- User Page: The page is a User subpage that has been requested for speedy deletion by the original author.
- Personal Page (Prefix Rule): The page is named after a user without the "User:" or "Journal:" prefixes and its content has been moved to the appropriate User or Journal page. Includes pages that should be User subpages, ie. in-game characters.
- As of 2011, August 29, Crit 9 is now a scheduled deletion.
- Unused Template: The page is a template that has existed for at least one week and is currently unused within the wiki.
- Non-existent User Page: The page is a User: page for a user that doesn't exist, and any content on the page has been moved to the appropriate User: or Journal: page.
- As of 20 June 2009, Crit 11 is now a scheduled deletion.
Defunct group page: The page is a non-historical group page, it is over two months old, it has not had an update in a month, and is not on the stats page. Such pages will remain in the queue for 5 days to determine their defunct status has been correctly identified. Due to the large number of pages that fit into this criterion, please {{speedydelete12}} on the pages to ensure that they are categorized differently from normal speedy deletion requests.- As of 2007, September 16, this is no longer a valid criterion.
- Missed sub-page: The page is a sub-page from a previous deletion request that has not been deleted with the request, and that serves no individual purpose (please note the relevant deletion request).
A page may also fall under a scheduled deletion and should be posted here if it is missed by the sysops.
Crit 1 as duplicated content that serves no purpose. None of these pages are linked from anywhere, so they've never been well-maintained or updated. Moreover, their sole purpose was to consolidate the A/RE links for each sysop in a single place, but that purpose is now being handled by the new archive, so they're now duplicate content. —Aichon— 21:22, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- I'd furthermore say that it is redundant to the existing R/E categories. Done. -- Spiderzed█ 21:48, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
Additional note: I have an A/MR to move pages to these names, so if the links suddenly turn blue, it doesn't mean that Spider's work was undone by someone or that this still needs to be processed. ;) —Aichon— 21:54, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
User talk:Aichon
The last three edits on that page contained personal information about an user. The compromised user had asked offsite to delete it. (The nature of the information is such that the user couldn't ask himself on-site without giving away that information.) Unfortunately I couldn't reach Aichon or Ross, so I had to come up with a quick decision of my own. I decided to rule in favour of privacy and against Aichon's talk page ownership, so here I am. The user in question has promised me to email Aichon ASAP, and I hope Aichon will share my decision. Please hold back with A/M until Aichon has been able to chime in. If he doesn't share my decision, I am as always open to the judgement on A/M. -- Spiderzed█ 16:57, 16 October 2012 (BST)
- I knee-jerk undid it, but I've since re-deleted the edits until we discuss here (actually, I botched re-deleting them, then did it properly). As per what Spider said, I've received a PM from user X on a third-party forum, as well as a few e-mails from X. They provide an IRC chat log of the request that Spider was acting on, as well as a rationale for why X asked that the edits be deleted. I'd be happy to provide a redacted version of the IRC chat log if anyone seriously doubts that Spider was acting on an actual request.
- On the surface, this seems like Spider abusing his power to remove something that is not personally identifiable, since it's just X's screen name. As a rule, we don't remove those, which is why I knee-jerk undid the deletion. That said, when I talked to X yesterday, X made it abundantly clear that they did not want their screen name associated with what was going on, specifically because they had reason to believe that The Smiths may target them IRL and that The Smiths would be capable of working out who they are IRL if they had X's screen name. That concern was clearly re-stated in the e-mails I received after Ross posted the name on my talk page, and was also evident in the IRC chat logs as well.
- To be honest, I'm inclined to consider the threat a credible one, since I've seen evidence that The Smiths have in the past both personally identified other players by their real life names and threatened physical violence against those players in real life. I also saw evidence of The Smiths threatening violence against X if they ever figured out who X was. As such, I'm inclined to let Spider's deletions stand.
- I'd also like to ask that, should any other sysops disagree, that they refrain from undoing the deletions until we can at least come to a decision, based on the nature of the problem at hand. —Aichon— 18:02, 16 October 2012 (BST)
Criterion 1. The change from monthly to quarterly admin archive is effective since third quartal 2012. That make the July VB archive page unnecessary.
