This page is for the request of speedy page deletions within the Urban Dead wiki. Due to concerns about loss of data, the ability to delete pages is restricted to the system operators. As such, regular users will need to request a deletion from the sysops. For consistency and accountability, system operators also adhere to the guidelines listed here.

In a restricted set of circumstances, system operators may delete pages without full consultation of the wiki community. This is usually restricted to pages that do not seem to have any legitimate information or function within the wiki, or for pages that have been created by mistake and are requested to be deleted by the author. In these circumstances, a Speedy Deletion may take place, allowing system operators to quickly remove these pages from the wiki.

Guidelines for Speedy Deletion Requests

All Deletion Requests must contain the following information in order to be considered:

  • A link to the page in question. Preferably bolded for visibility.
  • A reason for deletion. This should be short and to the point.
  • A signed datestamp. This can be easily done by adding ~~~~ to the end of your request.

Further, you should place {{speedydelete}} at the top of the page you are nominating for speedy deletion.

Any deletion request that does not contain these three pieces of information will not be considered, and will be removed by a system operator.

Once the speedy deletion request has been entered, the request shall remain on this page, where it will be reviewed by a member of the moderation team, and action taken accordingly. Once action has been taken, the request will be moved into the Archive, and the system operator shall add a signed datestamp to the archived request.

A Speedy Deletion may be circumvented by a single vote of Keep under the request. If this occurs, the system operator shall move the Speedy Deletion request to the Deletion Request Queue, where the normal rules for Deletion of the page shall apply. Further, a user may choose to move a request from the Speedy Deletion queue to the Deletion Request Queue should they feel that the deletion may attract controversy within the wiki community, but do not wish to cast a Keep vote for the request. Should either of these circumstances occur, the deletion candidate should remain in the Deletion Request Queue until the alloted two weeks is up.

In the event of a sysop requesting Speedy Deletion, all the previous points will apply, excepting that a system operator other than the requester shall review and take action on the request.

Speedy Deletion Eligibility

To be eligible for a Speedy Deletion Request, the page must fall under at least one of the following criteria:

  1. No Content: The page contains no more than a line or two of content that cannot clearly be expanded, consists of random or incoherent content, or is duplicated elsewhere to no purpose.
  2. Off-Topic: The page is a clearly off-topic page.
  3. Unused Redirect: The page is an unused or underused (ie, only 1-2 pages using the link) redirect.
  4. Empty Category: The page is a Category page that has no entries within it.
  5. Missed Talk Page: The page is a Talk: Page from a previous deletion request that has not been deleted with the request (please note the relevant deletion request if this is so)
As of 19 May 2010, Crit 5 is now a scheduled deletion.
  6. Deletion Workaround: The page is a duplicate of a page that has been deleted from a previous deletion request (please note the relevant deletion request if this is so). A page that fits this criterion is immediately qualified for deletion without requiring it be nominated on the 'Speedy Deletions' page. Recreating a page that fits this criterion will get you a polite message to stop doing so. Any further infractions of this nature will qualify as vandalism and will be treated as such. Note that criterion 6 does not apply when the page has been restored through Undeletions.
  7. Author Edit Only: The page has been requested for speedy deletion by the original author, and has been edited only by its author. Note that edits by adbots or vandals and reverts caused by them do not count.
  8. User Page: The page is a User subpage that has been requested for speedy deletion by the original author.
  9. Personal Page (Prefix Rule): The page is named after a user without the "User:" or "Journal:" prefixes and its content has been moved to the appropriate User or Journal page. Includes pages that should be User subpages, ie. in-game characters.
As of 2011, August 29, Crit 9 is now a scheduled deletion.
  10. Unused Template: The page is a template that has existed for at least one week and is currently unused within the wiki.
  11. Non-existent User Page: The page is a User: page for a user that doesn't exist, and any content on the page has been moved to the appropriate User: or Journal: page.
As of 20 June 2009, Crit 11 is now a scheduled deletion.
  12. Defunct group page: The page is a non-historical group page, it is over two months old, it has not had an update in a month, and is not on the stats page. Such pages will remain in the queue for 5 days to determine their defunct status has been correctly identified. Due to the large number of pages that fit into this criterion, please {{speedydelete12}} on the pages to ensure that they are categorized differently from normal speedy deletion requests.
As of 2007, September 16, this is no longer a valid criterion.
  13. Missed sub-page: The page is a sub-page from a previous deletion request that has not been deleted with the request, and that serves no individual purpose (please note the relevant deletion request).

A page may also fall under a scheduled deletion and should be posted here if it is missed by the sysops.

Random Administrative Cleanup

I'm doing some cleaning up around the admin pages, mostly with the copious amounts of redundant pages that have accumulated in A/M (presumably in preparation for resuming work on moving them to A/SA). For all of these, I've already cleaned up the links (or else left them because they're administrative/explicitly referencing the location of the page), so they're ready to be deleted.

These are obsolete A/M/Archive/SYSOP_NAME pages (or redirects to them) that have already had all of their content moved into A/SA/SYSOP_NAME and all of the relevant links updated.

Done set I, but make sure you know that those deletions leave redlinks in the navbars of the subpages: example. Will/should those get cleaned up too? (answered my own question) Will do sets II and III in a minute. (Also, I deleted them as crit 10 — should have been crit 1, but oh well.) Bob Moncrief EBDW! 22:32, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, I didn't mention them since I knew they'd be handled by the subsequent deletions and they were as cleaned up as they could be at that point. I did swap out some of those links on the pages getting deleted, just so that it'd clean up the listings/make them easier to look over if one of you guys checked, but the ones I left were in the breadcrumbs at the top of the old A/M archive pages, and I didn't feel like swapping all of them out, since A/SA isn't structured quite the same way. Reasons for deletion:

Content about another group that is slanderous. It has posted claims against our group that are invalid. It has also made up fake information about our group. Also, said information against us was created on here before I even created this account, and appears to be connected to the previously banned Jack Yocum/fake account.

Also, with the references to our group removed it doesn't really seem to have much information about the user on the page. I believe that is also another reason for speedy deletion?

Seems the only viable part of this profile is this part: "I don't care about that, either. But feel free to do it. I'll just keep on humming. Keep on slumming, just strumming the guitar, I keep the music coming.

And I don't care about that, either."

I request all of the misinformation about our group struck from the page, if the profile itself cannot be not deleted.

I have placed the necessary speedy deletion requests on the respective page.

Regards. --The Jack Yocum 14:10, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, but we'll have to deny this request. From the instructions above:
To be eligible for a Speedy Deletion Request, the page must fall under at least one of the following criteria
Sysops aren't allowed to Speedy Delete pages unless they fall under one of the criteria above, and none of those criteria seem to match up with the page in question (nor is it eligible for a Scheduled Deletion). Since the page isn't eligible for a Speedy Deletion, you'll need to use Deletions instead, which will be a slower process that relies more heavily on community feedback, but I can already tell you that the odds of success are low, since this wiki has a long history of allowing pretty much anything on user and group pages, including words aimed at other users and groups. For instance, one of my own groups was recently the target of some unkind words, though we resolved it amicably off-wiki. Aichon 19:53, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Understood. I will file that request as well. However, doesn't it fall under the criteria for Speedy Deletion #2 (Off-Topic)? Seems a User page should have more inforamtion about the user? Instead it posts maligning, and inaccurate, info even though that user has no relation to our group. Plus it seems the list was copied/pasted from another site (Resensitized I believe). Just curious.

Also, is it possible to place a request to have a Sysop modify the page to just have the offensive material, directly related to our group, removed instead? I don't care if the offending users keep their pages, or lose them, as long as the our material is excised. Thank you for the information Aichon. Always appreciated. --The Jack Yocum 16:27, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Criteria 2 is about black-and-white stuff that's off-topic for the wiki as a whole, rather than a particular page. Examples of Criteria 2 might be if someone is using the wiki to host a celebrity fan site or to post product advertisements, but if someone wants to use their user page to talk about other folks in the game, that's considered on-topic, even though it may not have anything to do with them personally. Their user pages are really just theirs to use as they want, and don't actually have to be about them at all, so long as we can somehow see the relevance to something game-related. Aichon 22:32, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
Oh, and in terms of excising offending material from user pages, sysops generally only get involved in things like that if there's personal information that's posted, such as real life names or addresses. We're not moderators, so beyond the powers enumerated here on the admin pages, we really don't have any more or less ability than you to make changes to user pages. Aichon 22:40, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Given that this is a wiki for Urban Dead, and Urban Dead is explicitly defined as not including alt abuse, we can safely say that any pages encouraging such behavior are Crit 2. Or Crit 1. Or Crit 9. Take your pick. Aichon 05:46, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

Do you mind if we leave it as a plain link to your (non-existent) user page, so that people can tell who made the posts? -- boxy 08:07, 22 June 2015 (BST)
Alternative reading: your signature isn't going to go away, since it's a requirement that your posts be signed. But if there has ever been personal information saved on your signature's page, we can delete it and then re-create it as a default sig, basically. Aichon 15:10, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
Assuming that the doxxers are the same as some months ago, I preferred to handle that as safely as possible without disrupting the entire wiki with bad transclusions. I have deleted the sig but for the latest bare-bones revision by Boxy. (Other ops, if you need to know from what angle that attack may come, e-mail me privately. Suffice to say that the doxxers are probably mediawiki-savvy enough to thumb through revisions for even minor hints, and that a success on their end could have devastating effects. I am an op who plays by the wiki rules as much as possibly, but I draw the line at user's personal safety. And that is for the sake of an user who has been fiercely antagonising me in the past, which probably says a lot about how worrying I consider the threat to be.) -- Spiderzed 19:41, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
