20071113 Making generators and transmitters

ZombieJuice 03:08, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion type
New Skill

Suggestion scope
Survivors in general

Suggestion description
Given the time spent in repair buildings and generators, the survivors eventually got the ability to fabricate their own machines. Learning a new skill (called Mechanic), the survivors can fabricate portable generators or radio transmitters, spending 15 AP in a Factory, Storehouse or Power Station, and only if they have a Toolbox. I was inspired by the new flavor text for finding a First-Aid Kit in a Hospital, that says that you don't find one, but you MAKE one with the leftovers, and, ovbiously, inspired by the needs.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep-Because you still need a justification outside of the bolded vote.  Nalikill  TALK  E!  W!  M!  USAI  04:24, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. Keep Because i had the same idea myself, tho i did want to vote spam because nalikill voted keep. - Pardus 09:31, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Change I know I'm in the vast minority here, but if this also meant buying a skill with EP called "Mechanic", and only constructing gennys (not radios), plus AP cost of 20, I'd vote yes.--Actingupagain 16:52, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Keep- Your definition of magic probably includes turing on computers. "OMG I PRESSED A BUTTON AND THE SCREEN LIT UP! IT MUCT BE MAAAGGGIIICCCCCCCCC!!!!!!!!!" UCFSD 17:19, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Keep My 800-some XP has to go somewhere... Why not make targets for that damned GKer at Dowdney? ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 04:02, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill Not overpowered not magic. People won't use it just like manufacture syringe. Omega 03:21, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
re: isn't overpowered, because of the many requirements (skill, toolbox, AP and location), and isn't magic, because is somehow "realistic". hey, how can you fix a ruined building with the same energy you spend to reload a gun? --ZombieJuice 03:25, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Like I said NOT overpowered and NOT magic. It was more in response to Karek's vote. Omega 03:30, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. kill - no, not magic. if those complicated MAGIC syrignes that do their molecular work can be constructed, why not generators? well, i assume because NTech has specialised facilities and specialised, highly trained staff to do so... whereas where is the generator factory, nuh? also, generators are one of the single most valuable items in the game for survivors... shit, i would be ECSTATIC to build 3 a day, then one more day to get fuel for all them, with maybe some AP to spare to install them! so, yes, overpowered. --WanYao 04:47, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Generators are complex machines, so raising the AP cost (20-30?) and needing wirecutters to complete the task would probably even-out the process. Nonetheless, an XP gain (10?) would be another good incentive for constructing a generator instead of just searching for one. Making a syringe (another complex item) requires 20AP, being located in a powered NT, and having the NecroNet Access skill (costing 225-450 XP depending on character class). The suggestion has potential, so working it out on Talk:Suggestions and resubmitting it would be great. --Z. slay3r Talk  15:08, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Kill As Grim. It's a nice thought though, but the AP cost is too low and I doubt you'd be able to find and assemble complex machines so easily. --Jon Pyre 16:47, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Kill - more zombie skills are needed to balance the game, not boosts to survivors. --Pavluk A! E! 23:18, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  6. kill - Sorry, but its a no from me, this will just result in the pointless choice of whether to search for one or make one, I believe we have enough trouble with syringes concerning this The man 20:41, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Kill - Generators are supposed to be rather hard to get and worth repairing to keep up. --Howard Bentley 21:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. Kill - Not another "let's make getting generators easier" suggestion. CharonX 23:04, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
  9. Kill/Change- Raise the AP cost. The result: I still won't like it. --Darth LumisT! A! E! FU! 00:29, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
  10. Weak Kill - Only because I agree with this guy but also agree with him. BoboTalkClown 01:41, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
  11. Kill- I don't really think this is balanced, because given that the genny search rates are 2%, that's ~50AP/genny, compared with the your proposed "Mechanic" skill it's like 3 1/3 gennys/50AP, if you do the math. This is probably the surefire way to light every single building in Malton, and setting up a radio station, too. Great way for Forts to expand their influence as a really big HQ.--Shotstol 03:03, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Overpowered, and No Magic.--Karekmaps?! 03:18, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  2. NopeNubis 03:25, 13 November 2007 (UTC) Unjustified vote struck.  Nalikill  TALK  E!  W!  M!  USAI  03:58, 13 November 2007 (UTC) Vote unstruck. Justification contained in vote itself. Read: "Nope". --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 04:21, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
    Nope isn't a justification. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 10:30, 13 November 2007 (UTC) Non author re struck. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 11:22, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
    Extended discussion on the talk-page. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 11:44, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Okay Douchefairies - This skill allows you to build a generator in less AP then it would take, on average, to find it. Unbalanced. PS you all can die in fires for being the aforementioned douchefairies. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nubis (talkcontribs) at an unknown time.
  3. Spam - Besides the fact that both are unbelievably complex pieces of machinery to the average person, making them constructable will unbalance the game --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 04:21, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  4. Spam - I just gained a lot of respect for Grim. Down with drawn out justfications! That being said,nope.--Wooty 05:06, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Spin - I just gained a lot of respect for Grim. Down with drawn out justfications! That being said, nope.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 05:10, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  6. Spock - I just gained a lot of respect for Grim. Down with drawn out justfications! That being said, nope. --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! 05:11, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Spook - I just lost a lot of respect for all the people that gained a lot of respect for Grim. Don't you realise he's trying to take over the wiki from the inside-outside-in? And no, I'm not going to justify that. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 08:58, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. Spam - I just lost what little respect I had for Grim. Down with votes with no justification! That being said, 15AP is game-breakingly cheap. And that isn't a drawn out justification. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 10:30, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  9. Above and up. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 10:44, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  10. Spam - Screws with current AP-search rates. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 10:58, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  11. Spam - Unrealistic. Generators are fantasticly complicated machinery.--SeventythreeTalk 11:38, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  12. Spam - As many above, this is not something that should be impletmented as it could have gamebreaking repercussions. --Ryiis 15:05, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  13. Spam - as 73. Acoustic Pie 18:11, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  14. Spam - As above. Search rates, complicated, etc. --Druuuuu 20:04, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
  15. Spam- A multi-step, overpowered, complicated suggestion. Gotta love it. --Darth LumisT! A! E! FU! U 02:19, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
  16. Spam - Survivors don't need MORE ways to circumvent Ransack/Ruin. Did the naughty Zombies cut off access to the hardware store by Ruining the mall you've been camping in for the last 3 months? Try searching a factory, a warehouse, an auto repair shop, a fire department, or a junkyard instead (hey, junkyards can't be Ransacked at all... as hard as it is to find something usefull there, at least it will never get any worse). --Steakfish 05:38, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
  17. Spam - Funt, you're a liar. I'm trying to take over the wiki. Not Grim.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 02:12, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
  18. Spam - 15AP = gamebreaking, according to search rate 4.2% in lit factory. fixed number = gamebreaking in sense of zergabuse --~~~~ [talk] 23:25, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
